Yes—you can keep a World of Warcraft YouTube livestream running around the clock from prerecorded videos, but an uploaded playlist is not itself a live broadcast. You must create a YouTube live broadcast and send it a continuous audio/video feed from an encoder. The encoder can run on an always-on computer or in a cloud service, while the encoder playlist supplies your uploaded WoW recordings.
The dependable setup has three parts: a verified, unrestricted YouTube channel; a scheduled or immediate live broadcast with its stream key; and an encoder that advances through a rights-cleared playlist without stopping. Before leaving it unattended, test transitions, watch for copyright notices, and define restart and failover procedures.
What a 24/7 prerecorded WoW livestream actually is
YouTube classifies the output as live because it receives a continuous encoder feed. The pictures may have been recorded during earlier World of Warcraft sessions, but the encoder packages and sends them as one ongoing broadcast. Uploading several videos to your channel and placing them in a playlist does not create a live event by itself.

- YouTube broadcast: the event created in Live Control Room, with its title, privacy, schedule and stream key.
- Encoder feed: software or a hosted process that reads the files, keeps audio and video continuous and sends the feed to YouTube.
- Playlist: your WoW recordings, arranged in the order viewers should see them, with optional transitions or a holding slate.
If any link stops, the public stream can show an interruption even when the other two links are healthy. That is why a 24/7 channel needs monitoring and a recovery plan rather than a one-time upload.

Check YouTube eligibility before preparing hours of video
YouTube states that live streaming requires channel verification, no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days and compliance with its policies. Complete those checks before buying hardware or uploading a large library. A restriction discovered after you configure the encoder can prevent the broadcast from starting.
- Verify the channel in the account associated with the WoW content.
- Review the channel’s live-stream status and confirm there has been no restriction in the prior 90 days.
- Enable the live-streaming feature and allow any activation period YouTube displays before scheduling the event.
- Keep recovery access available for the account that owns the channel; an encoder cannot fix a disabled or restricted broadcast.
YouTube documents a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Count every simultaneous event when designing a network of themed channels or multiple WoW feeds.
Clear rights for every element in every recording
YouTube scans all live streams for matches to third-party content, including another copyrighted live broadcast. If third-party material remains, YouTube can interrupt or terminate the stream. A prerecorded file is not exempt simply because it is being sent through an encoder.

For each video, document your rights to:
- Gameplay footage and any cinematics captured in the recording.
- Background music, including music added during editing or heard from another application.
- Voice tracks, guest appearances and clips supplied by another creator.
- Images, memes, alerts, logos, overlays and transition sounds.
- Any trailer, tournament segment or other broadcast segment inserted into the playlist.
Owning the game does not automatically grant rights to every soundtrack or third-party asset in an edited video. Keep licence receipts, permission emails and the dates or territories they cover. Licensed material can still require the rights owner to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist; ask the owner about that before using the track in an unattended stream.
When a claim appears, do not assume that muting the local file is enough. Remove or replace the disputed element, obtain the necessary permission, or stop that item from entering the playlist while you investigate. A rights review is part of the operating procedure, not a task to postpone until YouTube interrupts the broadcast.

Choose where the encoder will run
There are two practical architectures. A local encoder keeps the files and controls on your own machine. A cloud encoder runs the process on a hosted service, so the home computer can be shut down. Both still depend on YouTube, a valid stream key and a reachable network path.

Local hosting has upfront hardware and electricity costs; cloud hosting has recurring service charges. Neither option is automatically fail-safe. Before choosing, verify how the process restarts after a crash, how alerts are delivered and what support is available.

Prepare a reliable World of Warcraft playlist
Inventory and normalize the files
Make a manifest of every file, its duration, resolution, frame rate, audio layout and rights status. Resolve missing files and unsupported containers before adding them to the live playlist. Mixed formats can work, but they increase the chance of a visible or audible discontinuity when the encoder changes files.
Normalize dialogue and game audio so that one recording is not dramatically louder than the next. Remove silence, accidental desktop notifications and material that is not cleared for public transmission. Decide whether the stream should cut directly between matches or show a short branded slate between files. A slate can hide a brief seek or initialization delay, but it must also be rights-cleared.
Arrange for an intentional viewing loop
Order the playlist so that a viewer joining at any time sees a sensible sequence. Put a short channel-identification or rules video near the beginning if it is important, then place longer matches and variety segments after it. Check that the loop returns to the first item instead of ending the encoder feed.

Keep a second, known-good playlist or a holding file ready. If one recording is removed for a rights issue or becomes unreadable, you can substitute it without taking the entire channel offline.

Create the YouTube live broadcast
- Open YouTube Live Control Room for the verified channel.
- Create a scheduled or immediate broadcast. Set the title, description, visibility, category and any age or chat controls appropriate for the content.
- Choose the encoder option and copy the stream key. Treat the key like a password; do not publish it in screenshots, descriptions or support tickets.
- Leave the event ready for the encoder. If the broadcast is scheduled, note the exact start time and whether YouTube will automatically start when a valid feed arrives.
- Keep Live Control Room open during testing so you can see the preview, health indicators and any policy or copyright warnings.
Use a dedicated key for each independent feed when possible. Remember that YouTube permits no more than three active streams per key and 10 active streams per channel under its current guidance.
Configure a local encoder step by step
1. Make the machine suitable for unattended operation
- Use a computer that can read the entire media library without filling its system disk.
- Disable sleep, hibernation and automatic shutdown while the stream is scheduled.
- Install operating-system and encoder updates during a maintenance window, not in the middle of a broadcast.
- Use reliable power protection where outages are common and configure the machine to restart the encoder after reboot.
- Connect through a stable internet path. Wi-Fi can work, but a wired connection reduces one source of variable packet loss.
2. Add the YouTube destination
In the encoder’s streaming-output settings, select YouTube or the ingest destination supplied by YouTube, then paste the stream key. Confirm that the destination is the same event you opened in Live Control Room. Do not paste a key from another channel or an expired test event.
3. Set video parameters deliberately
Choose a single output resolution and frame rate that the machine can sustain continuously. If the source files vary, let the encoder scale or convert them to the chosen output rather than switching output characteristics at every file boundary. Preserve the source quality when the machine and connection can support it; reducing a 4K recording to a lower output cannot be undone by YouTube.
Set the video bitrate in the encoder’s output profile for the selected resolution and frame rate, then test for sustained upload headroom. A bitrate that works for a five-minute clip may fail after hours of congestion. Watch the encoder’s dropped-frame and connection indicators during a long test, not only the local preview.

4. Set audio and keyframes
Use a consistent audio sample rate, channel layout and level across the playlist. Mux audio and video in the output so the receiver gets synchronized tracks. For protocol-level implementations, YouTube’s HLS guidance requires HTTPS, media playlists and segments, while its DASH guidance requires multiplexed tracks and timely manifest updates. DASH guidance calls for manifest updates at least every 60 seconds and a GOP target of about two seconds, with a limit below eight seconds. Use the encoder’s keyframe or GOP controls to meet those targets when you are implementing DASH or another protocol that exposes them.
Do not change keyframe cadence from file to file. A stable cadence gives YouTube predictable segment boundaries and makes recovery less prone to long black or frozen sections.
5. Configure playlist looping and process recovery
Enable loop or repeat mode and verify that the action after the final file is “start first item,” not “stop.” Configure the encoder to reconnect after a network interruption and to restart its playlist after a process crash. If the software has no supervisor, use the operating system’s service or task scheduler to relaunch it, and send an alert when it exits so a restart does not remain unnoticed.
Start, observe and test before going unattended
- Start the encoder with a short test playlist or a copy of the production playlist.
- In Live Control Room, wait for the preview and confirm that audio and video are synchronized.
- Let the encoder cross at least two file boundaries. Check for black frames, clipped audio, an unexpected resolution change or a stalled progress indicator.
- Temporarily interrupt the network or stop the encoder in a controlled test. Confirm the reconnect or restart procedure and note how long viewers see an interruption.
- Verify that the public watch page shows the expected title, thumbnail, latency and chat settings.
- Restore the production playlist, start the broadcast and record the event ID, encoder profile and recovery instructions for anyone on call.
A successful preview proves only that the feed can start. A 24-hour soak test reveals disk, thermal, memory and network problems that a short launch test misses.
Operate a 24/7 channel with monitoring and recovery
Monitor four layers separately:
- Encoder: process running, current file, elapsed time, dropped frames, reconnect count and available disk space.
- Network: upload reachability, packet loss and whether the route to YouTube remains usable.
- YouTube: live status, stream health, preview, chat and copyright or policy notices in Live Control Room.
- Content: playlist order, rights status and whether the next file exists and can be decoded.
Write a response runbook with a first action for each failure. For an encoder crash, restart the process and confirm that the same broadcast remains selected. For a dead machine, power-cycle or move the stream to a prepared backup host. For a network outage, avoid repeatedly changing the stream key; restore connectivity and let the encoder reconnect. For a copyright match, pause the affected file, preserve the notice and replace the content before resuming unattended operation.

Cloud hosting can supply process supervision, but you still need alerts and a documented owner for rights and YouTube policy decisions. Verify any provider’s actual support and service commitments instead of assuming that “cloud” means uninterrupted.

Capacity, privacy and cost decisions
A local setup avoids uploading the library to a third party and gives you direct access to every setting, but it requires a machine, storage, power and a dependable home connection to remain available. Electricity and replacement hardware are real recurring risks even when the encoder software is free.
A cloud setup removes the requirement to keep that home machine powered on and can be easier to supervise remotely. In exchange, you upload media or grant a service access to it, pay a recurring charge and depend on the provider’s availability and support. Check storage limits, supported playlist formats, recovery behavior and deletion controls before committing a library.
When planning several channels, include YouTube’s limit of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key in the design. Separate channels, keys and encoder instances do not remove YouTube policy obligations; every feed is still scanned and each piece of content still needs rights clearance.
