Yes—you can keep a VTuber YouTube channel live around the clock with prerecorded programs. An encoder sends a video file or playlist to a YouTube Live event as a continuous feed. The practical choices are OBS on a computer, a dedicated hardware encoder, or a cloud service that runs after you shut down your own equipment.
For the least hands-on setup, StreamNeo is the #1 option: it loops uploaded videos in the cloud, keeps streaming with your computer off, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free without a card.
What a 24/7 prerecorded VTuber stream actually is
A prerecorded VTuber channel does not send a camera feed continuously. Instead, an encoder reads finished VTuber episodes, music videos, talk segments, intermissions, or a playlist and transmits the resulting audio/video feed to a YouTube Live event. YouTube describes the role of the encoder plainly: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.”

The channel appears live while the encoder is connected and sending data. Viewers can watch the current position in the program, join live chat, and receive notifications just as they would for another live broadcast. The video can be a single file that repeats, a scheduled rotation, or a longer show assembled from several scenes.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A genuine 24/7 operation has two separate concerns:
- Program continuity: there is always valid video and audio to send, including between episodes.
- Technical continuity: the encoder, internet connection, power, and YouTube session recover from failures without leaving the channel offline for long.
Looping a file solves only the first concern. A computer crash, power cut, lost connection, expired stream, or YouTube disconnect can still interrupt the channel unless you monitor and recover it.
Requirements and decisions before you go live
Enable live streaming early
In YouTube Studio, use Create → Go Live and complete the live-stream setup before your launch date. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Do not schedule a public premiere for the same hour you first request access.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchPrepare rights for every element
Make a rights inventory for the entire program, not just the VTuber model. It should cover:
- recorded footage and screen captures;
- the voice performance and any guest appearances;
- music, sound effects, and karaoke or cover material;
- the character model, commissioned artwork, backgrounds, thumbnails, and overlays;
- chat graphics, alert sounds, and third-party clips.
Keep licenses, written permissions, and purchase records where your team can retrieve them. A live loop can trigger the same copyright systems as an uploaded video. A claim, block, or takedown can stop the broadcast even when the file has played correctly in your editor.
Choose a program structure
A single long file is simple to operate but gives viewers little variation. A playlist can alternate episodes, music, “starting soon” and “be right back” segments, schedule panels, and a fallback slate. Plan the order and the transition behavior before creating the YouTube event.
For a channel that also wants manageable archives, plan deliberate sessions shorter than 12 hours. YouTube states that all streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A stream that runs continuously for a day can therefore make archive handling, moderation, and recovery harder; controlled restarts create clear VOD boundaries.

Method 1: Run the channel locally with OBS Studio
OBS Studio is free, open-source software for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It gives you scene-level control and does not require a streaming-host subscription, but your computer, storage, power, and internet connection remain part of the broadcast path.
1. Install OBS and check the machine
- Download and install OBS Studio for your operating system.
- Store the prerecorded files on a local drive that will remain available while the stream runs. Avoid a removable drive that can be unplugged or put to sleep.
- Set the computer not to sleep, hibernate, or install an unplanned restart during the broadcast window. Apply operating-system updates before—not during—the first 24/7 test.
- Connect the computer to wired internet if possible. If you must use Wi-Fi, test the exact room and network location for several hours.
2. Loop one file with Media Source
- In OBS, create a scene for the main program.
- Click Sources → + → Media Source.
- Select the prerecorded file and enable Loop. OBS documents Media Source support for common formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM, as well as common audio formats.
- Set the source to restart when the scene becomes active if you want a predictable beginning after a recovery.
- Play the scene locally and watch the audio meters through the end of the file. Confirm that the file actually restarts instead of leaving a frozen frame or silent output.
Use a short fallback slate after the main file if you want a visible indication that the program has reached its loop boundary. A slate is also useful when you need to replace a damaged episode without showing a black screen.
3. Build a rotating playlist with VLC Video
- Install VLC on the same computer as OBS.
- Prepare a playlist in the order you want viewers to see the episodes and intermissions.
- In OBS, choose Sources → + → VLC Video and add the playlist files.
- Enable Loop Playlist. OBS documents that VLC Video supports playlists and looping.
- Run the complete playlist once before going public. Check that every file opens, that aspect ratios do not unexpectedly crop the avatar, and that audio does not disappear between items.
A playlist is easier to vary than one giant file, but every added file is another possible failure point. Keep a known-good fallback file available and remove files that produce decoder errors.
4. Create VTuber scenes and a fallback path
Useful scenes include the main avatar program, a “starting soon” card, a schedule panel, a chat or alert layout, and a “maintenance” or fallback slate. Keep text large enough to read on a phone. If you display “now playing” information, update it from a source that will not freeze when the playlist changes.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Keep the OBS audio meters visible during testing. Verify voice, music, and alert levels separately; a picture that loops while the audio source has ended is still a broken broadcast. Decide what should happen when a file is missing: switch to the fallback scene, continue with the remaining playlist, or stop for a controlled restart.
5. Connect OBS to YouTube
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Create → Go Live.
- Create a new stream or schedule one. Give it an accurate title, description, thumbnail, category, and chat policy.
- In the Live Control Room, copy the YouTube server URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service when available, and paste the server URL and stream key. Treat the key as a password; do not publish it in screenshots or chat.
- Set the output resolution and frame rate to match the program you are sending. Use the bitrate, rate-control, audio, and keyframe values that YouTube currently displays for that resolution in its encoder guidance; do not guess at values when the source or connection cannot sustain them.
- Click Start Streaming in OBS, then verify the preview, health indicators, and audio in Live Control Room before making the event public.
Keep the source dimensions, output dimensions, and frame rate consistent wherever possible. Scaling a 4K source down can reduce bandwidth, while upscaling a low-resolution source does not create detail. The correct setting is the one your files, encoder, and upload connection can sustain without dropped frames.
6. Test the complete chain privately
- Run an unlisted stream for at least the length of your longest transition and several playlist changes.
- Watch OBS CPU and GPU load, memory use, dropped frames, disk space, and encoder warnings.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators from a second device or network.
- Disconnect the network briefly, restore it, and observe whether OBS reconnects and whether YouTube resumes the event.
- Stop and restart OBS once to confirm that your scenes, playlist, and stream settings survive a restart.
Do not call a channel “24/7” because one overnight test succeeded. A strict availability requirement needs monitoring, restart automation, a second machine, or another independent recovery path.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. StreamNeo | Upload files or playlists; fewer scene-level controls than a local OBS setup | Cloud operation with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream; your computer can be off | One flat price per slot; first day free without a card | Creators who want 24/7 looping without maintaining a home computer |
| 2. OBS Studio | Detailed scenes, overlays, sources, and file-level control | Depends on one computer, its power, storage, software, and internet unless you add redundancy | OBS software is free; you provide the hardware and connection | Creators who need live scene changes or already operate a reliable streaming PC |
| 3. Dedicated hardware encoder | Purpose-built controls and less dependence on a general-purpose PC | Hardware can reduce PC software failure, but still needs power, network, and tested media handling | Up-front equipment cost | Studios that want a dedicated appliance and have staff to maintain it |
| 4. Other cloud services | Usually simpler scheduling and less local maintenance | Depends on each vendor’s infrastructure, recovery behavior, terms, and status monitoring | Recurring subscription; verify current pricing and regions | Teams comparing hosted scheduling products |
YouTube’s verified-encoder directory has listed OBS as free open-source software, Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K as a hardware encoder with direct YouTube streaming, and cloud services such as Gyre, StreamPush, and Upstream. Directory membership and vendor features can change, so verify current pricing, regions, uptime commitments, and partner terms before committing. A directory listing is not a guarantee that a vendor will meet your channel’s availability target.
Designing a reliable 24/7 operating routine
Monitor more than the public player
Check the encoder’s health, YouTube’s stream-health indicators, audio continuity, dropped frames, CPU/GPU load, available disk space, and internet uptime. A public player can appear normal while the encoder is accumulating errors or silently losing audio.

Plan restarts and failover
Use controlled restarts for archive boundaries, software maintenance, or a known memory leak. Configure automatic restart only after testing what happens to the YouTube event and stream key. If the channel cannot tolerate a single-PC failure, keep a second machine or a cloud fallback prepared and test the handoff before an incident.
Keep a fallback slate
A static “technical difficulties” or schedule slate is safer than an unlicensed filler video. It also gives moderators a clear message while you replace a damaged file or reconnect the encoder.
Moderate the live layer
Even prerecorded programming creates live-chat obligations. Set moderators, blocked words, slow mode, and escalation rules before the first public session. A loop does not answer viewers or remove harmful comments by itself.
Copyright, reused material, and monetization
Ownership of the VTuber avatar does not automatically grant rights to every song, clip, voice, artwork, or guest appearance in a 24/7 loop. Clear each component and retain evidence of permission. If a rights holder restricts a track, the live event can be claimed or interrupted while the rest of the playlist is valid.
YouTube’s monetization requirements include the Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, copyright and rights-clearance obligations, and program policies. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” to inauthentic content and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible for monetization.
That policy does not make every prerecorded stream prohibited, but it does mean that a minimally changed loop should not be presented as automatically monetizable. Add original presentation and meaningful programming value: rotate genuinely different episodes, provide clear schedules, use original commentary or interstitials where appropriate, and avoid mass-produced variations that exist only to extend watch time. Never promise approval simply because you own the footage.

Troubleshooting common failures
OBS shows a black screen or a frozen frame
- Cause: the file path changed, the drive is unavailable, or the decoder cannot open the format.
- Fix: open the Media Source properties, confirm the path, test the file in a local player, and replace it with a supported format. Keep a fallback scene ready.
The video loops but audio stops
- Cause: the media source’s audio ended, the playlist item has no audio track, or a transition muted the source.
- Fix: watch the audio meters through the loop boundary, inspect each playlist item, and remove or repair files that produce silence.
YouTube reports dropped frames or an unstable connection
- Cause: upload capacity is insufficient, Wi-Fi is fluctuating, or the encoder is overloaded.
- Fix: use a wired connection, lower the output workload to a sustainable resolution or frame rate, close competing uploads, and check CPU/GPU encoder load. Use the bitrate and keyframe values YouTube specifies for the selected output.
The stream disconnects after a computer restart
- Cause: OBS did not launch, the scene collection was not saved, or the YouTube event was not configured for reconnection.
- Fix: save the profile and scene collection, start OBS automatically only after testing it, and perform a deliberate restart test with an unlisted event.
A playlist stops on one particular file
- Cause: a damaged file, unsupported codec, unusual variable frame rate, or inaccessible path.
- Fix: play that item by itself, re-export or replace it, and run the full playlist again before returning it to the public rotation.
The broadcast is live but the archive is missing
- Cause: the session exceeded YouTube’s stated automatic-archive window, or the event ended abnormally.
- Fix: use controlled sessions under 12 hours when archives matter, end each event cleanly, and verify the recording before deleting local source files.
A copyright claim appears during the loop
- Cause: a song, clip, artwork, or performance lacks the required license or was matched by a rights system.
- Fix: pause or replace the disputed item, document your permission, and do not resume it merely because the same file worked in a private test.
Cost and operational checklist
OBS has no software subscription, but the real local cost includes a computer that can run continuously, electricity, storage, maintenance, backup internet, and the time required to monitor and recover it. Hardware encoders move spending to equipment and still need power and supervision. Cloud hosting adds a recurring fee but removes the requirement to keep a home machine online.
