Start by matching the symptom to its location and the mower’s message. A mower that repeatedly misses the same area usually needs a schedule or coverage-setting check; one that stops in one place needs an obstacle, wheel, blade-disc, map or boundary inspection. A loop-signal warning on a wired installation points toward the boundary circuit. Change one thing at a time, follow the model’s manual, and treat dimensions and accessories as model-specific rather than universal.

Diagnose the pattern before changing settings

Before moving a boundary wire, editing a map or buying an accessory, record three facts: the exact place where the mower stops or leaves a patch, the wording of the app or display alert, and whether the problem happens every time or only occasionally. Take a photograph of the location if the mower is difficult to move safely. This record prevents a schedule problem from being mistaken for a wiring fault and makes a later service call much more useful.

  • Same lawn patch remains uncut: begin with the schedule and coverage configuration.
  • Only one assigned zone is cut: check whether other work areas are enabled and scheduled.
  • The mower stops beside furniture, a planter or a narrow passage: inspect that physical location and the map or exclusion around it.
  • An “outside work area” or similar alert appears: investigate boundary placement, loop signal and installation margins.
  • A “no loop signal” alert accompanies a blue flashing charging-station light: suspect a broken boundary wire on a wired system.
  • A blocked-wheel or blocked-cutting-system message appears: power the mower down and inspect the relevant components using its manual.
  • The mower struggles only on a transport route or where satellite reception is poor: check whether the model supports a feature-specific transport-path solution.

Do not assume that a visible gap in a virtual map is the cause. Husqvarna’s related support guidance says a mower following its My Lawn schedule can still cut the lawn even when the virtual map is incomplete, so the schedule and the physical installation must be checked together.

When the mower misses parts of the lawn

Check the schedule first

A robot mower can be mechanically healthy and still leave grass because a work area is not active during the available mowing times. Open the mower’s app or control panel and verify that the schedule covering the missed area is enabled. Then compare the configured coverage or work-area settings with the lawn that was actually installed. Menu names differ by model; do not apply a path from another brand’s app.

For Husqvarna boundary-wire installations, the manufacturer specifically advises checking the lawn-coverage settings and the installation when Automower cuts only portions of the lawn. Its support guidance also warns that disabling the My Lawn schedule can leave only the separately scheduled work areas being cut. If you changed a schedule recently, restore the intended work areas before altering wire or map geometry.

Separate a coverage setting from a map problem

Compare what the mower is supposed to cover with the physical lawn, including connected sections, passages and any zones deliberately excluded. A map can look incomplete without preventing all-lawn mowing under the applicable schedule, while an inactive schedule can leave a real section untouched even when the map looks correct. Record the result of one complete scheduled run before making another change.

When settings are correct

If the same patch remains uncut after the relevant schedule and coverage settings are enabled, move to a location inspection rather than repeatedly editing the schedule. Look for a boundary crossing, a narrow route the mower cannot negotiate, an obstacle that has shifted, or a wheel and cutting-system blockage. Those checks are covered in the following sections.

When it is trapped in one location

Inspect the stopping point

Go to the exact place shown in the app or where the mower reports the trapped condition. Check for outdoor furniture, planters, roots, low objects, a rock edge, a sharp change of level or a passage too narrow for the model. Furniture is one cause identified in Husqvarna’s trapped-error guidance. Seasonal objects can appear after the installation was completed, so a formerly clear route may no longer be clear.

Remove a movable object and observe a full departure from the area. If the object must remain, use the mower’s supported exclusion method rather than relying on a temporary object to define the boundary. A map edit is useful only if the model actually uses that map for navigation; a wired mower may require a physical boundary-wire island instead.

Create a permanent exclusion correctly

For a permanent flower bed, rockery or similar no-mow area, Husqvarna documents a boundary-wire island method for Automower installations. The island keeps the mower outside the area while preserving the route around it. Follow the exact wire-routing, connector and distance instructions for your model; an island that is too tight or incorrectly connected can create a new loop-signal or navigation problem.

Worx describes islands for permanent exclusions on supported Landroid systems and an Off Limits accessory for seasonal items such as lawn furniture and planters. That accessory is not a general robot-mower solution: use it only when the specific Landroid installation and model support it. Other manufacturers may use different magnetic strips, map zones or no accessory at all.

Do not confuse an obstacle with a boundary fault

If removing the object lets the mower leave normally, the obstacle or exclusion was the cause. If the mower still stops in an open area, preserve the alert and location information and inspect the wheels, cutting system and boundary symptoms instead of buying an exclusion accessory.

When a wheel or cutting system is blocked

Make the mower safe before inspection

Stop the mower, switch it off and follow the manufacturer’s procedure for lifting, isolating or removing it from the charging station. Do not reach toward blades or turn a blade disc while the mower is powered. Use the operator manual for the exact safe position and cleaning method because chassis, blade assemblies and isolation controls differ.

Check the drive wheels and blade disc

The Husqvarna Automower 105 operator manual identifies grass or another object wrapped around a drive wheel or blade disc as a possible reason for blocked components and repeated stops. Inspect those areas for compacted wet grass, string, twigs and other material. Remove only what the manual permits, using the specified tool and protective precautions. Do not transfer the Automower 105 procedure to another model without checking its own manual.

After cleaning, place the mower on a clear section and run it long enough to confirm normal movement and cutting. If the same component blocks again, stop testing and arrange model-specific service; repeated obstruction can indicate a mechanical problem rather than a lawn-layout problem.

When the mower reports “outside work area”

Understand what the warning means

On a wired system, an outside-work-area alert can mean that the loop signal indicates the mower is outside the defined work area. Husqvarna’s UK troubleshooting guidance lists boundary wire placed too close to a slope or obstacle as one possible cause. It gives a normal minimum margin of 35 cm in that troubleshooting context.

The 35 cm figure is Husqvarna guidance for the stated Automower situation, not an industry-wide specification. Boundary distance depends on the mower, the terrain, the obstacle and the installation instructions. Do not move every wire to 35 cm without consulting the manual for your model.

Inspect the installation against the manual

Walk the boundary near the reported location. Look for a wire that has shifted toward a slope, been exposed by soil movement, been cut during edging, or been routed too close to a fixed object. Check passages and islands as well as the outer perimeter. Correct the installation only according to the model’s prescribed spacing, connectors and anchoring method, then test the mower in the affected section.

When a wired mower loses its loop signal

Use the charging-station light and alert together

Husqvarna says a blue flashing charging-station light combined with a no-loop-signal alert may indicate a broken boundary wire. This diagnosis applies to a wired installation; it does not explain a schedule that was never enabled or a wheel blocked by grass.

Locate the break efficiently

Find the original installation map before digging. Trace the wire route from the charging station, paying particular attention to places where edging, aeration, gardening or animal activity could have damaged it. Husqvarna advises that a wire-break detector can save time when locating a suspected break. Use one only after the symptoms point to the loop circuit; it is not a general tool for every missed patch.

Repair and protect the connection

Use a repair method and couplers approved for the mower’s boundary system. After the repair, secure exposed wire or bury it as the installation instructions require so that a mower wheel, trimmer or future lawn work cannot pull it apart. Husqvarna’s guidance specifically calls for repaired wire and couplers to be secured or buried as appropriate.

Worx’s support material names additional 20 AWG stranded low-voltage wire in its own support context. That specification should not be treated as universal: confirm wire gauge, insulation, coupler type and maximum installation length for your mower before purchasing replacement materials. Reconnect the charging station, verify that the loop-signal indication is normal, and run a controlled test around the repaired section.

When a transport path or satellite signal is involved

Some satellite-guided systems can struggle where satellite coverage is weak, especially along a narrow route between lawn areas. Husqvarna describes EPOS Support by Wire as a feature that can support a transport path in such conditions. It is a remedy for relevant EPOS installations, not a general fix for boundary-wire Automower systems or other brands.

Before considering that feature, establish that the missed section is actually on a transport route and that the mower model, firmware and installation support it. If the mower is stopping beside a chair or reporting a blocked wheel, a satellite-path feature will not solve the physical obstruction.

Choose the remedy that matches the diagnosis

Observed problem Appropriate next action What it will not fix
Only scheduled work areas are being cut Enable the intended schedule and compare coverage settings with the installed lawn. A blocked wheel, damaged boundary wire or physical obstacle.
Mower stops beside a permanent flower bed or rockery Create the model’s supported physical or virtual exclusion. An inactive schedule or a broken loop circuit elsewhere.
Seasonal furniture or planters create a new obstruction Remove the object or use a supported seasonal-exclusion method. Models that do not support that accessory or method.
Blue flashing charging-station light and no-loop-signal alert Inspect the installation map, locate the break and repair it with compatible materials. Missed patches caused only by coverage settings.
Grass or an object wrapped around a drive wheel or blade disc Power down and follow the model manual’s inspection and cleaning procedure. A map gap or incorrectly routed boundary.
Weak satellite coverage on a supported transport path Check whether the model supports EPOS Support by Wire or an equivalent feature. Most wired installations and ordinary obstacle errors.

Wired, satellite and virtual-boundary installations

Installation type Where to look first Important qualification
Boundary wire Schedule and coverage settings, wire placement, loop signal, connectors and physical obstacles. Distances, wire type and repair methods are model-specific.
Satellite-guided Map, work areas, satellite reception and transport-path support. A wire-break detector and boundary-wire repair do not apply unless the installation also uses a wired loop.
Virtual boundaries Map geometry, active work areas and supported exclusion features. A visible map gap is not automatically the reason a patch was missed; check the schedule and the mower’s navigation rules.

A complete troubleshooting procedure

  1. Record the evidence. Note the exact alert, the location, the lawn section affected and whether the event repeats at the same point.
  2. Confirm the installation type. Identify whether the mower follows a boundary wire, satellite reference, virtual map or a combination.
  3. Verify coverage and schedule. Make sure the affected work area is enabled and scheduled. For a Husqvarna My Lawn installation, check that disabling My Lawn has not left only selected work areas active.
  4. Inspect the stopping location. Remove movable furniture and objects temporarily. Examine slopes, narrow passages, roots and low edges.
  5. Apply the supported exclusion method. Use a boundary-wire island, map exclusion or model-specific seasonal accessory only when the mower supports it.
  6. Power down for a mower inspection. Follow the manual to check drive wheels and the cutting system for wrapped grass or other objects.
  7. Investigate boundary symptoms. For an outside-work-area alert, compare wire placement with the model’s installation instructions. For a blue flashing station light and no-loop-signal alert, use the installation map and, if appropriate, a wire-break detector.
  8. Repair with compatible materials. Secure or bury repaired wire and couplers as required; do not assume another mower’s wire gauge or connector is suitable.
  9. Test one change at a time. Run the mower through the affected area and keep the original alert and location notes until the result is clear.
  10. Escalate unresolved faults. If the same component blocks, the loop signal remains absent or the mower repeatedly leaves the work area after a verified installation repair, stop altering the lawn and consult the model’s service instructions.

Permanent versus temporary exclusions

Situation Preferred approach Reason to check compatibility
Flower bed, rockery or other permanent no-mow feature Use the manufacturer’s permanent island or map-exclusion procedure. Wire routing and map controls vary by model.
Lawn furniture or planter that moves seasonally Remove it while mowing or use a supported seasonal-exclusion accessory. Worx’s Off Limits accessory is described for supported Landroid systems only.
Object that appeared after installation First move the object and retest before changing boundaries. An accessory cannot correct a separate schedule, map or wheel fault.

Prevent the problem from returning

Keep the installation record current

Store the boundary layout or digital installation map where it can be found before repairs. Mark later changes to islands, passages and repaired sections. The map is especially valuable when a wire break occurs because it narrows the search area and helps prevent accidental damage during gardening.

Review schedules after lawn changes

When you add a work area, change a map or disable a mowing mode, verify the resulting schedule rather than assuming the mower inherited the old coverage. Run a supervised cycle after a major installation change so an untouched section is discovered immediately.

Control seasonal obstacles

Furniture, planters and other temporary objects should be removed or excluded before a scheduled run. If a supported accessory is used, verify its compatibility with the exact mower and installation instead of assuming that an accessory for one Landroid or Automower configuration works elsewhere.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Inspect after landscape work

Edging, aerating, digging, tree-root work and slope erosion can move or damage a boundary wire. A quick walk of the perimeter after that work can reveal an exposed section, a displaced margin or a connector that needs protection before the mower reports an error.

Common mistakes that waste time

  • Changing the map before reading the alert: the mower may simply have an inactive schedule or a blocked drive wheel.
  • Using 35 cm as a universal rule: that measurement belongs to Husqvarna’s stated outside-work-area guidance, not every mower or terrain.
  • Buying a wire-break detector for a non-wired problem: the tool is useful only when symptoms indicate a loop fault.
  • Installing replacement wire by gauge alone: wire insulation, connector design and installation limits also matter, and the cited 20 AWG example is specific to Worx support context.
  • Assuming an exclusion accessory is cross-compatible: Off Limits is described for supported Landroid systems; other models require their own approved method.
  • Cleaning while the mower is powered: blades and moving parts can injure you. Use the model’s shutdown and inspection procedure.
  • Repairing a break without protecting it: an exposed splice can be pulled apart by wheels, tools or later lawn work.

When replacement parts or accessories make sense

Buy a boundary-wire detector only after a wired mower shows the combination of symptoms associated with a loop fault. Purchase replacement wire and couplers only after confirming physical damage and the exact installation requirements. Consider a seasonal exclusion accessory only when the mower manufacturer documents support for that model and installation. None of these products fixes an inactive schedule, an incomplete coverage configuration, a poor map, or grass wrapped around a wheel.

If the mower still misses the same section after the schedule, physical route, components and boundary signal have each been checked, preserve your notes, photographs and alert history. Those details identify whether the next investigation belongs in software settings, the installation or the mower hardware.
