Yes—since WhatsApp’s guest-calling announcement on October 14, 2026, you can join a WhatsApp audio or video call without a WhatsApp account or app download. The host must create a call link from WhatsApp, and you must open that link in a computer web browser, enter a name, and wait in a lobby until the host admits you.
This is a newly announced guest flow, so it is different from older WhatsApp help pages that describe account-based call-link joining. Availability can vary while the feature rolls out, and an older link may not behave like a newly created guest link.
What WhatsApp guest calling lets you do
A WhatsApp account holder can create a call link and send it to someone who does not use WhatsApp. The recipient opens the link in a computer browser, identifies themselves with a name, and enters a waiting room. The host then approves entry. No WhatsApp registration, phone-number verification, or WhatsApp app installation is required for the documented guest path.
Guest access works for one-to-one calls and group calls of up to 32 people, according to Meta’s 2026 announcement. WhatsApp describes these calls as free, end-to-end encrypted, and without time limits. The guest experience is intentionally narrower than the account-holder experience: guests can participate in the call, but they cannot use WhatsApp messaging or contact-management features from it.

The guest-entry instructions specifically document a computer browser. If you open the link on a phone and are redirected to an app or account screen, use a computer browser instead of assuming that registration is mandatory.
How the host creates a guest call link
The host must start the process. A person without an account cannot generate a WhatsApp call link independently.
- Open WhatsApp and select the Calls tab.
- Select the + icon.
- Choose the option to create a call link.
- Copy or share the generated link through the channel the host prefers, such as email or another messaging service.
The link is an invitation, not an automatic pass. Anyone who receives it may attempt to enter, but the host still controls admission. The host should send it only to intended participants and should avoid posting it publicly.

- Get the link from the host. Ask the host to create a fresh call link if they have not done so. A link copied from an old conversation may follow older account-based rules.
- Open the link on a computer. Use a web browser rather than installing WhatsApp or registering an account. The guest flow is designed for browser entry.
- Type your name. Enter the name you want the host and other participants to see. This is an in-call display name; it does not create a WhatsApp profile.
- Join the waiting room. After submitting your name, remain on the waiting screen. You are not in the call until the host approves you.
- Wait for admission. The host decides who enters. Keep the browser tab open while waiting, and contact the host through the channel used to send the link if approval is taking a while.
- Use the call controls after approval. Depending on the call, you can turn your microphone or camera on or off, share your computer screen, use reactions such as thumbs-up or a heart, and raise your hand.
Possessing the URL does not bypass the lobby. The host can decline or remove a guest at any time.
What guests can and cannot do
Available during the call
- Participate in an audio or video call.
- Control the microphone and camera.
- Share the computer screen.
- Send the documented reactions, including thumbs-up and heart emojis.
- Raise a hand to signal that you want to speak.
Not available through guest access
- Viewing other participants’ phone numbers.
- Sending WhatsApp messages from the call.
- Adding people directly to the call.
- Creating a new call link without a WhatsApp account.
These restrictions help keep an unauthenticated browser participant separate from WhatsApp’s account and contact system. A guest can communicate in the live call, but is not added to the host’s contacts or WhatsApp chats merely by joining.

Why you are waiting for host approval
The waiting room is a required part of guest entry. WhatsApp does not treat the link alone as authorization. The host sees that a guest is requesting access and chooses whether to admit that person. This gives the host a chance to recognize invitees, reject an unexpected visitor, or remove someone who should no longer be present.
If the host has not approved you, stay on the waiting screen and contact the host outside the call. If you are removed, only the host can decide whether to invite you again. Closing the tab and reopening the same link does not replace the host’s admission decision.

What other participants can see
Guests cannot see the phone numbers of other participants through the guest call. The name you enter is used to identify you in the call, so choose a name the host can recognize without revealing information you do not want displayed.
Who can enter
Share the link only with the people you intend to invite. The host controls admission, but an exposed link can still generate unwanted join requests. The host should watch the waiting room and remove any guest who is not supposed to be there.
Encryption and call limits
WhatsApp describes guest calls as end-to-end encrypted and without time limits. The published guest announcement supports up to 32 people in a call. Those statements describe the announced feature; they do not mean every older call link or every region has already received identical behavior.

New guest links versus older WhatsApp call-link guidance
Older WhatsApp Help Center guidance describes ordinary call links as unique and secure, with an optional approval requirement. It also says that a link can expire after 30 days of non-use and can be revoked. That older guidance describes joining with a WhatsApp account and predates the October 14, 2026 guest announcement.

Therefore, do not assume that every historical link accepts guests, that every account-based help instruction applies to a new guest link, or that the feature is available identically in every rollout region. If a link sends you to account registration instead of a name-and-waiting-room screen, ask the host to create a new link and verify that guest calling is available for their account.
Troubleshooting guest entry
The link opens an app or asks you to register
The documented guest path is a computer browser. Move the link to a computer and open it there. If the page still requires an account, the link may be an older account-oriented link or the guest rollout may not yet be active for that host.
You cannot find a field for your name
A guest should be prompted to enter a name before joining the waiting room. Check that you opened the complete link supplied by the host and that the page has finished loading. If the page shows only account-based options, request a newly created link.
You are stuck in the waiting room
Waiting is normal until the host approves you. Message or call the host through the channel used to send the invitation and confirm that they can see your request. The host may be reviewing several requests or may have chosen not to admit you.

The host says you were removed
Removal is controlled by the host. Ask whether they want you to rejoin and, if necessary, request a new invitation. Rejoining is not automatic after removal.
The call already has many people
Guest group calls support up to 32 participants. If that limit has been reached, the host must end or reduce the call before another person can participate.
You cannot see phone numbers or send a message
That is an intentional guest limitation, not a missing permission. Guest participants do not see other participants’ phone numbers, send WhatsApp messages, or add people directly from the call. Use the separate channel through which you received the link for any text communication.

- Confirm that you have a WhatsApp account and can open the Calls tab.
- Create the link with Calls > + > create a call link.
- Send the complete link privately to the intended guest.
- Tell the guest to use a computer browser, type a recognizable name, and remain in the waiting room.
- Watch for the guest’s request and approve only people you recognize.
- Remove a participant if they should no longer be in the call.
- Remember that the call can contain no more than 32 people, including the host.

Can a guest join from a phone?
The documented guest entry is through a computer browser. A phone may redirect to app or account screens, so use a computer when joining without an account.
Can the host admit a guest automatically?
No. Guest access uses a waiting room, and the host must approve entry. The host can also remove a guest during the call.
Can guests invite another person?
No. Guests cannot add people directly to the call. The host should create and distribute any additional invitation link.
Bottom line
To join a WhatsApp call without creating an account, get a call link from a WhatsApp user, open it on a computer, enter your name, and wait for the host to admit you. You do not need the WhatsApp app or an account, but the host does need an account, guest entry may depend on the new rollout, and the host remains in control of admission and removal.
