On PS4, the supported path to a featured Minecraft Bedrock server is Minecraft > Play > Servers. You must be signed in with a Microsoft account and have an active PlayStation Plus subscription for console online multiplayer. Choose a listed server, accept the online-play warning, and allow its resource pack to download. PS4 versions may not show Bedrock’s general Add Server field. To reach a private or community server, you can use the BedrockConnect DNS workaround, provided the destination supports Bedrock and you have its address and port.

What you need before joining

Check these requirements before troubleshooting the game menu. Having the correct destination information matters as much as having the correct console settings.

  • Minecraft Bedrock Edition for PS4: Install the game and update it before attempting to connect. The server and client must support compatible Bedrock versions.
  • A linked Microsoft account: Sign in to the account linked to your PlayStation profile. Console multiplayer depends on this account connection, even though you launch the game from the PS4 menu.
  • PlayStation Plus: An active subscription is required for online console multiplayer. It enables online play; it does not provide a server address, create a server, or make a Java server compatible with Bedrock.
  • For a custom server: Obtain the server’s Bedrock address and port from its owner or administrator. Ask for the current values instead of assuming that a Java address or a previously posted port still works.
  • A Bedrock-compatible destination: Java and Bedrock connections are separate. A Java server must have a specific cross-play bridge or Bedrock endpoint before a PS4 Bedrock client can join.
  • A working internet connection: The PS4 must complete its network test and be able to reach Microsoft services. A successful console network test does not guarantee that a particular game server is online.

If any one of these conditions is missing, changing DNS settings or repeatedly restarting Minecraft will not solve the underlying problem. First identify whether the failure is account access, subscription access, network configuration, destination details, or the server’s own rules.

Join a featured server from the PS4 menu

Featured servers are the simplest option because they are exposed directly in the console edition. Minecraft’s official server instructions summarize the route as: “Open Minecraft, click play, and use the Servers tab to see a list of featured servers!” These entries are the native console path and do not require a third-party redirect.

  1. Start Minecraft and sign in to the linked Microsoft account.
  2. On the main screen, select Play.
  3. Move to the Servers tab. The tab displays the featured servers available to your game build and region.
  4. Highlight a server and select Join Server.
  5. Read the online-play warning, then choose Proceed if you accept it.
  6. If the server requests a resource pack, approve the download and wait for it to finish.
  7. Remain on the loading screen until the server world opens. Leaving while the resource pack or world is loading can interrupt the first connection.

This route does not require you to type an address or port. The server list, connection details, and any required resource pack are supplied through the featured-server entry. You still need to follow that server’s rules once you arrive; the featured listing only handles the connection path.

Why the Add Server button may be missing

Bedrock documentation describes an Add Server workflow in which a player enters a server name, address, and port. That documentation applies to Bedrock platforms that expose the manual server form. On PS4, the console build may show only the featured-server list, so there may be no field for entering a third-party address directly.

A missing button is therefore usually a platform-menu limitation rather than an account error. Do not enter a Java address into a featured-server screen or assume that reinstalling Minecraft will add a manual-entry field. If you need a private or community server, use a documented console workaround, or join through a friend or Realm when that is the appropriate access method. A friend invitation or Realm can avoid manual address entry, but it does not change the requirement for a Microsoft account and console online access.

Connect to a custom Bedrock server with BedrockConnect

BedrockConnect documents a DNS-based workaround for consoles whose Minecraft menus do not provide a native third-party server list. The method changes the PS4’s DNS settings so a compatible featured-server entry redirects to BedrockConnect’s server-list interface. From there, you enter the actual Bedrock server address and port.

This is a third-party project, not a PlayStation or Minecraft menu feature. Its DNS address and the featured servers that work as redirect targets can change. BedrockConnect describes the project as free and open source and warns that similarly named mobile apps are not affiliated with it. Check the project’s current documentation before changing network settings, especially if the values below stop working. Do not treat a mobile app with a similar name as confirmation that the console method is current.

Set the PS4 DNS values

  1. On the PS4 home screen, open Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection.
  2. Select the connection you use: Wi-Fi or LAN Cable.
  3. Choose Custom rather than Easy.
  4. Leave IP Address Settings set to Automatic.
  5. At DHCP Host Name, select Do Not Specify.
  6. For DNS Settings, select Manual.
  7. Enter 45.55.68.52 as the primary DNS server.
  8. Enter 8.8.8.8 as the secondary DNS server.
  9. Keep MTU Settings on Automatic.
  10. Choose Do Not Use when the setup asks about a proxy server.
  11. Select Test Internet Connection and wait for the test to complete.

Enter the values in the correct fields. The primary and secondary addresses are not interchangeable instructions for a Minecraft server, and neither address is the destination server’s game port. The test confirms whether the PS4 can use the network configuration; it does not prove that a particular Minecraft server is online or that the DNS redirect is currently available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use a redirect-compatible featured server

  1. Launch Minecraft after the network test.
  2. Open Play > Servers.
  3. Select a featured server that BedrockConnect currently supports as a redirect target. The project has documented targets including Mineville, Lifeboat, Enchanted, Galaxite, and The Hive; availability can change.
  4. Wait for the BedrockConnect server-list screen rather than entering the featured server’s ordinary game world. If the normal world opens, that entry may no longer be redirect-compatible.
  5. Enter the target server’s Bedrock address and port exactly as supplied by the server owner.
  6. Submit the connection from the BedrockConnect interface and wait for the destination world to load.

The address and port belong to the destination server, not to the PS4 and not to the featured server you selected as the redirect. A typo in either value can produce a rejection even when the DNS setup is correct. Preserve punctuation and numbers exactly, and confirm whether the owner supplied a Bedrock endpoint rather than a Java endpoint.

What the address and port tell you

A server address identifies the host or domain to contact; the port identifies the Bedrock service on that host. Both values come from the destination administrator. The featured server selected in the Servers tab is only the route into the BedrockConnect interface when you use the workaround. It is not a substitute for the community server’s address and port.

When an administrator gives you multiple connection options, ask specifically for the Bedrock address and Bedrock port. Java and Bedrock endpoints can use different connection details, and a Java-only endpoint will reject a Bedrock client even if the hostname looks correct. Also ask whether the server requires an allowlist, password, or particular game version; those are destination rules that DNS cannot bypass.

Featured server or custom server: which route fits?

Factor Featured-server route Custom-server route through BedrockConnect
Setup effort Open Minecraft, choose Play, open Servers, select a listing, accept the warning, and download any required resource pack. Change PS4 network settings, test the connection, open a compatible featured listing, then enter the destination address and port.
Address and port needed No; the listing supplies the connection details. Yes; the server owner must provide a Bedrock address and port.
Third-party dependence No workaround service is required for the listed server. Yes; the redirect depends on BedrockConnect’s DNS service and current compatible targets.
Control over destination Limited to servers appearing in the featured list. Greater choice among reachable Bedrock servers, subject to the workaround and the server’s own access rules.
Chance that labels or connection details change Menu labels can vary with Minecraft updates, but the route remains the native Servers tab. Higher: DNS values, redirect targets, and interface behavior are third-party project details that may change.

Choose the featured route when the server you want is already listed. Use the workaround only when you have a specific Bedrock destination that is not available through the native list and you accept the additional dependency. If you only want to play with a friend and do not need a public server address, a friend invitation or Realm may be simpler than changing network settings.

Troubleshoot common PS4 connection problems

“Multiplayer is disabled” or online play is unavailable

Confirm that Minecraft is signed in to the intended Microsoft account and that PlayStation Plus is active. Both are prerequisites for console online multiplayer. If the account is linked but the message remains, sign out and back in to the Microsoft account, then restart Minecraft after confirming the subscription status. A PlayStation Plus membership enables console online multiplayer, but it does not include server hosting or supply custom-server credentials.

The Servers tab is missing or empty

First verify that the game has finished signing in to Microsoft services and that the PS4 has a working internet connection. A console build may expose only featured servers; it will not necessarily display a manual Add Server form. If the tab remains unavailable after account and subscription checks, the problem is not solved by typing a custom address elsewhere in the menu. Use the documented DNS workaround for a custom destination, or use a friend or Realm invitation when suitable.

There is no Add Server button

This is expected on PS4 builds that provide only featured servers. The general Bedrock instructions describe manual entry, but platform interfaces differ. Follow the BedrockConnect procedure above instead of assuming that the button is hidden behind another menu. Updating Minecraft may change labels, but it cannot guarantee that a console build will expose the manual form.

The DNS test succeeds, but no redirect screen appears

  • Recheck that the primary DNS is 45.55.68.52 and the secondary DNS is 8.8.8.8, with no extra spaces or swapped values.
  • Confirm that the connection was saved as Custom, with IP address settings automatic, DHCP host name unspecified, MTU automatic, and proxy disabled.
  • Run the PS4 connection test again after saving the settings.
  • Return to Minecraft > Play > Servers and try another featured server that BedrockConnect currently documents as redirect-compatible.
  • Consult the project’s current documentation before making further network changes. The listed DNS endpoint and compatible-server list are not permanent Minecraft settings.

The destination rejects the connection

Check the destination’s address, port, edition, and game-version requirements. A server can be reachable through the redirect and still reject a player because the supplied port is wrong, the server accepts only Java clients, or its Bedrock endpoint requires a different version or access rule. Ask the server owner for the current Bedrock connection details rather than copying a Java address. If the server uses an allowlist, the owner must authorize the Microsoft account you use on PS4.

A Java server reports an incompatibility

PS4 Minecraft Bedrock cannot join an ordinary Java-only endpoint. Ask the owner whether a Bedrock-compatible endpoint or explicit cross-play bridge is configured. Without that bridge, changing the PS4 DNS settings does not convert a Java server into a Bedrock server. The owner, not the console player, must provide and maintain the compatible endpoint.

A resource pack fails or the world never finishes loading

Featured servers can require a resource pack before the world opens. Allow the requested download to complete, then wait for the connection. If the server continues to fail, try the connection again from the Servers tab and check whether the server has changed its requirements or is temporarily unavailable. A loading failure does not by itself prove that the address, port, or DNS values are wrong.

The server worked once and then stopped

Recheck the current BedrockConnect documentation and the server owner’s latest connection details. DNS endpoints, redirect-compatible featured servers, server ports, and supported game versions can change independently. Test the PS4 connection after any network edit, then try a currently documented redirect target. Avoid assuming that a previously successful route is a permanent Minecraft feature.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to undo the DNS workaround

If you no longer need custom-server access, return the PS4 connection to its normal automatic DNS configuration. Open Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection, choose the same Wi-Fi or LAN connection, select Custom, and leave IP settings automatic and DHCP host name unspecified. At DNS Settings, choose Automatic; keep MTU automatic and choose Do Not Use for the proxy. Test the connection, then launch Minecraft and use the native Play > Servers route. Restoring automatic DNS keeps the console from depending on an external redirect when you are not using it.

Important limits of the workaround

BedrockConnect does not remove the need for PlayStation Plus, a Microsoft account, or a Bedrock-compatible destination. It only supplies a way to reach a server-entry interface on a console that may not expose manual server entry. The project’s DNS values and redirect-compatible featured servers are operational details, not guaranteed permanent settings. If they change, the current project documentation is the authoritative place to find replacements.

Use the destination server’s own rules for passwords, allowlists, ports, and version requirements. The PS4 can connect only when the server owner has provided a reachable Bedrock endpoint and the account is permitted to join. The workaround also does not turn a private server into a public one or bypass a server’s authentication and access controls.

The shortest decision path

  1. If your target appears under Play > Servers, join it directly and follow the warning and resource-pack prompts.
  2. If the target is not listed, confirm that it is a Bedrock server and obtain its address and port.
  3. If your PS4 has no Add Server field, use the BedrockConnect DNS method with the documented values and a currently compatible featured-server redirect.
  4. If the connection fails, identify whether the cause is account or PlayStation Plus access, DNS setup, an incorrect address or port, edition mismatch, or a server-side requirement.
  5. When you finish using the workaround, restore automatic DNS if you want the PS4 to use its ordinary network configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I join a Minecraft Bedrock server on PS4?

For a listed server, sign in to Microsoft, confirm PlayStation Plus is active, open Minecraft, choose Play, open Servers, select the server, accept the warning, and allow any resource pack to download. For an unlisted server, you need its Bedrock address and port and may need the BedrockConnect DNS workaround.

Why can’t I add a server on PS4?

PS4 console builds may expose only the featured-server list and omit Bedrock’s general Add Server form. That is a platform limitation, not necessarily an account problem. Use a friend or Realm invitation, or use the documented BedrockConnect method for a custom Bedrock destination.

Where is the Add Server button on Minecraft PS4?

There may not be one. The general Bedrock interface supports manual entry on some platforms, while PS4 may show only Play and Servers. A missing button cannot be enabled from another in-game menu.

Can PS4 join a custom Bedrock server?

Yes, when the destination provides a reachable Bedrock endpoint and the account is allowed to join. Because PS4 may lack native manual entry, BedrockConnect documents a DNS redirect that opens a server-list interface where you enter the destination address and port.

Do I need PS Plus to play Minecraft servers?

Yes. An active PlayStation Plus subscription is required for PS4 online console multiplayer. It enables online access but does not supply a server address, host a server, or make a Java server compatible with Bedrock.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I join a Java server from PS4 Bedrock?

Not an ordinary Java-only endpoint. The server owner must configure a Bedrock-compatible endpoint or an explicit cross-play bridge. Without that bridge, the PS4 Bedrock client will be rejected.

What DNS numbers does BedrockConnect document for PS4?

The documented values are 45.55.68.52 as primary DNS and 8.8.8.8 as secondary DNS. They are third-party operational details and can change, so check the project’s current documentation if the redirect stops working.

Is BedrockConnect an official PlayStation or Minecraft feature?

No. It is a separate, free, open-source project. Its DNS service and compatible featured-server targets are not permanent game settings, and similarly named mobile apps are not affiliated with the project.

The Bottom Line

Use Play > Servers for a featured server. For an unlisted destination, verify that it supports Bedrock, obtain its address and port, and use BedrockConnect’s documented PS4 DNS method when the Add Server field is unavailable. Keep Microsoft account sign-in and PlayStation Plus active, and recheck third-party DNS details whenever the workaround stops responding.
