If you live outside Japan, the two routes to investigate are Nintendo’s Tokyo-listed ordinary shares (ticker 7974) or, if your broker offers it, the U.S. over-the-counter depositary receipt NTDOY. Nintendo says its ordinary shares generally trade in units of 100; a 2022 Citibank notice recorded NTDOY at four depositary receipts for each ordinary share. Which route you can use—and its costs and tax treatment—depends on your broker, account, and country.
First, identify the security your broker can trade
Nintendo’s official FAQ identifies its Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market shares by code 7974. The same FAQ says the trading unit is 100 shares in principle. That is the standard unit Nintendo describes; it does not establish that every broker or trading route allows a smaller order.
The alternative to ask about is NTDOY, an unsponsored American depositary receipt traded over the counter, according to a Citibank corporate-action notice dated September 7, 2022. That notice recorded a ratio of one Nintendo ordinary share to four depositary receipts, changed from one to eight. Because the notice is from 2022, confirm the receipt’s current availability, ratio, and terms before placing an order.
Nintendo’s stock FAQ and share-status information provide the company’s listing and share details. The FAQ is an English translation; Nintendo says the Japanese original prevails if there is a discrepancy.

Ask your broker these questions before deciding
Availability is not guaranteed just because a security exists. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission explains that brokers may offer U.S.-traded foreign securities or process orders on foreign exchanges; that general guidance does not mean a particular broker supports Nintendo shares or NTDOY. Use the questions below to compare only routes your provider confirms it can handle.

- Eligibility: Can this account, given my country of residence and account type, trade 7974, NTDOY, or both?
- Order size and types: What is the minimum order? Can I place an odd-lot or fractional order, or must I meet the 100-share Tokyo unit? Which order types are accepted?
- Full costs: What are the commission, exchange charges, currency-conversion spread, bid-ask spread, and—if applicable—depositary or ADR fees?
- Trading and settlement: What are the relevant market hours in my time zone, expected settlement timing, and liquidity conditions for the instrument I would trade?
- Currency and payments: In what currency is the security quoted and settled? How are dividends converted or credited, and what conversion charges may apply?

Use Nintendo’s investor-relations information for company updates
Nintendo’s investor-relations site lists company financial reports and investor information. Its current landing page lists November 5, 2026, for the six-month earnings release and September 30, 2026, as the interim-dividend record date. Check the company calendar again before relying on either date, since schedules can change. Nintendo says its investor-relations materials are not intended to solicit investment; decide independently whether any security suits your circumstances.
