To install Webroot SecureAnywhere, download the Windows or Mac installer from Webroot, enter a valid keycode, approve the requested permissions, and allow the installation scan to finish. SecureAnywhere runs that first scan as part of setup; when it completes, select Start using SecureAnywhere. Mac users may also need to grant Full Disk Access.
What you need before installing
A smooth installation depends on three things: a supported operating system, an active Webroot license, and an internet connection. SecureAnywhere asks for your keycode during setup, so find it before launching the installer.
- A supported computer: Confirm the exact SecureAnywhere edition and operating system on Webroot’s current system-requirements page. Webroot’s requirements page covers several products, and support can change between releases.
- A valid keycode: Use the code supplied with your subscription or retail purchase. If you bought a boxed copy, Webroot says the keycode is printed on the lower-left area on the back of the box.
- Internet access: Webroot’s installation instructions require an internet connection so the installer can activate and update the product.
- Permission to install software: On Windows, you may need to approve a User Account Control prompt. On macOS, SecureAnywhere may request Full Disk Access.
Have the code available as a complete string rather than relying on memory. Keep the purchase email or account details nearby in case activation fails and Webroot support needs to verify the subscription.
If you are reinstalling rather than installing for the first time, Webroot says the subscription must still be active and valid. Its support guidance also allows a licensed installation to be re-downloaded or transferred to a new computer, subject to the terms of your subscription. Reinstallation is not a way to bypass an expired subscription or an account’s device rules.

Check current operating-system support
Webroot’s current requirements information, checked October 13, 2026, lists the following platforms. Verify the live page again immediately before publishing or installing because the supported list and product exceptions can change.
| Platform | Systems listed by Webroot | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 8.1, 32-bit or 64-bit | Confirm that your SecureAnywhere edition still supports this older release. |
| Windows | Windows 10, 32-bit or 64-bit | Check the edition-specific requirements before installation. |
| Windows | Windows 11, 64-bit | Use the current requirements page for any edition restrictions. |
| Windows on ARM | Windows 11, 64-bit ARM | Webroot lists an exception for Webroot Total Protection; do not assume every product edition is supported. |
| Mac | macOS 14 (Sonoma), macOS 15 (Sequoia), and macOS 26 (Tahoe) | Webroot lists support for Apple M-series and Intel processors. |
This list describes Webroot’s broad product requirements, not an unconditional promise that every SecureAnywhere edition works on every listed system. In particular, do not treat Windows 11 ARM support as universal when Webroot identifies an exception for Total Protection. Check the exact edition and processor type first.
If your operating system, processor, or edition is not clearly covered, pause before downloading. Webroot support can confirm compatibility; forcing an installer onto an unsupported system can create an activation or scanning problem that a reinstall will not solve.

Download the correct SecureAnywhere installer
Use Webroot’s official download and installation instructions rather than a third-party mirror. The download page presents separate choices for PC and Mac; select the platform on which SecureAnywhere will run. Choosing the wrong package is an easy way to end up with an installer that cannot complete.
Windows download
- Open Webroot’s official SecureAnywhere download page.
- Choose the PC option.
- Save the installer when your browser asks where to download it.
- Open the downloaded file named
wsainstall.exe.
Before opening it, check that the filename is wsainstall.exe and that you obtained it from Webroot’s official page. If a search result or email sends you to a different download, return to the official page instead of trying an unfamiliar executable.
If Windows displays a security or User Account Control prompt asking whether the installer can make changes, confirm that you started the file from Webroot’s download and choose Yes to continue. If the prompt does not match what you expect, stop and ask Webroot support rather than approving an unrelated program.
Mac download
- Open Webroot’s official SecureAnywhere download page.
- Choose the Mac option.
- Save the disk-image file named
wsamac.dmg. - Open the disk image, then open the Webroot application inside it.
macOS may display a confirmation before opening an application downloaded from the internet. Continue only after confirming that the file came from Webroot’s official download page. The disk image and the application inside it are the expected parts of the Mac installation flow.
Install SecureAnywhere on Windows
After wsainstall.exe starts, the installer guides you through activation and setup. Keep the keycode available; you will need to enter it when prompted. Work through the prompts in one session if possible, because closing the installer before activation or scanning completes leaves setup unfinished.
- Launch the installer. Double-click
wsainstall.exe. Approve the Windows permission prompt if one appears. - Enter the keycode. Type the valid keycode exactly as supplied. Check letters, numbers, and hyphens before continuing. A single mistyped character can make a valid subscription appear invalid.
- Accept the installer prompts. Continue through the on-screen license and setup instructions. Do not close the installer while it is activating or preparing the application.
- Allow the initial scan. Webroot says SecureAnywhere runs a scan during installation. Leave the computer available until that scan completes.
- Finish setup. When the initial scan ends, select Start using SecureAnywhere.
The first scan is part of installation, not a separate task you need to discover later. If the installer displays a scan in progress, let that process reach its completion state before deciding that setup has failed. There is no official guaranteed completion time to use as a deadline.

If Windows asks for permission again, read the prompt and verify that it relates to the Webroot installer you launched. Do not repeatedly click through unfamiliar prompts simply to make the installation move forward.
Install SecureAnywhere on a Mac
The Mac workflow begins with the wsamac.dmg disk image and can include an additional privacy approval before scanning is fully functional.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Open the disk image. Double-click
wsamac.dmg, then open the Webroot application shown in the mounted image. - Enter your keycode. Supply the active keycode when the installer requests it and continue through the prompts.
- Approve macOS permissions. Webroot may ask for Full Disk Access so it can inspect files during scans. Follow the prompt to the relevant macOS privacy settings and authorize Webroot. The exact setting names and layout can vary by macOS release.
- Run the installation scan. Let SecureAnywhere complete the scan that starts during setup. Keep the Mac powered on while the installer is working.
- Open the product. Select Start using SecureAnywhere after the scan finishes.
Full Disk Access is a privacy permission, so macOS may require you to authenticate before changing it. Read the application name shown in the privacy panel and authorize the Webroot application requested by the installer. The path and labels can differ between macOS releases; follow Webroot’s linked Mac instructions if the prompt does not take you directly to the correct setting.
If you declined the Full Disk Access request, SecureAnywhere may not be able to inspect every location it needs to scan. Reopen the permission prompt or use macOS privacy settings to authorize the Webroot application, then retry the scan from within SecureAnywhere. If the permission is already enabled but files remain inaccessible, record the exact message and contact Webroot support.
What happens during the first scan
SecureAnywhere performs an initial scan while it is being installed. The installer does not publish a guaranteed duration, so the time can vary with the amount of data and the computer’s condition. Keep the machine powered on and connected to the internet while setup continues, and avoid treating a long scan as proof that the installer is frozen.
A scan that is still progressing should be allowed to finish. If the display stops changing and the computer becomes unresponsive, note what is shown before interrupting anything. That information is more useful to support than an assumption about how long the scan should take.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhen the scan is finished, click Start using SecureAnywhere. At that point, the product is ready for normal use. Webroot’s support instructions state that, after the initial scan, SecureAnywhere automatically scans the computer daily and constantly monitors activity while you browse the internet. You do not need to create a separate daily scan schedule for that behavior.
Confirm that installation completed correctly
Use these checks after selecting Start using SecureAnywhere:
- The SecureAnywhere application opens without returning to the installer.
- Your keycode was accepted rather than rejected as invalid or expired.
- The installation scan reached its completion state.
- On a Mac, the requested Full Disk Access authorization is enabled if Webroot asked for it.
- The application remains available after you close and reopen its window.
These checks distinguish a completed setup from a downloaded file that merely opened. They also give you a short record to use if you need help: note your operating system and edition, whether activation succeeded, whether the scan completed, and the exact wording of any error.

If one of these checks fails, record the exact message on screen. A precise error message gives Webroot support more information than repeatedly entering the keycode or rerunning the installer.
Recover a missing keycode
Without a keycode, activation cannot be completed through the normal installation flow. Webroot’s support site provides a keycode-finding route for customers who have lost theirs. For a retail box, inspect the lower-left area on the back of the box, where Webroot says the code is printed.
Check the purchase email or subscription records before trying another installation. Do not guess characters that look similar, such as the letter O and the number zero, and do not substitute a code belonging to another product or account. If the support lookup does not locate your purchase, contact Webroot support with the purchase or subscription information requested by its support process.
Reinstall or move SecureAnywhere to another computer
Webroot says its software can be downloaded again or transferred to a new computer while the subscription remains active. The same installation sequence applies: verify requirements, download the correct PC or Mac installer, enter the valid keycode, approve permissions, and allow the initial scan to finish.
Before moving to a replacement computer, check that the new machine meets the current operating-system and processor requirements. A transfer is still subject to the subscription’s terms, including any device allowance. Removing the old application does not necessarily change account status immediately, so do not assume that uninstalling it automatically frees a seat.
An inactive, expired, or otherwise invalid license can prevent reinstallation. Because device allowances and account rules depend on the subscription, use Webroot support for the exact status rather than assuming that deleting the old installation automatically frees a seat.
Troubleshoot common installation and scan problems
| Symptom | What to check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| The installer asks for a keycode you cannot find | Check your purchase email or the lower-left back of a retail box. | Use Webroot’s keycode-finding support route. Do not invent or reuse an unrelated code. |
| The keycode is rejected | Re-enter it carefully and confirm that the subscription is active and valid. | If activation still fails, contact Webroot support with the exact error rather than guessing about expiration or device limits. |
| Windows will not proceed past the permission prompt | Confirm that you launched wsainstall.exe downloaded from Webroot’s official page. |
Approve the operating-system prompt if the file is the expected installer. If the prompt persists or the message is different, stop and ask Webroot support. |
| The Mac scan cannot inspect some files | Check whether Webroot was granted Full Disk Access. | Follow the Webroot prompt to macOS privacy settings, authorize the application, and retry the scan. |
| The installation scan appears stuck | Note the displayed message and whether the computer still responds normally. | Do not claim a fixed completion time or repeatedly interrupt setup. Capture the message and contact Webroot support if the installer does not progress. |
| You need to install on a replacement computer | Verify that the subscription is still active and that the new computer meets the current requirements. | Download the correct installer again and use Webroot’s support process if transfer or device authorization is refused. |
Webroot’s support material is the appropriate escalation path for installer failures, activation errors, uncertain license status, and device-limit questions. Those conditions can depend on your account and product edition, so a generic workaround may make the problem worse.
When contacting support, include the platform (Windows or Mac), the operating-system version, the SecureAnywhere edition, the installer filename you used, whether the keycode was accepted, and the exact scan or permission message. Do not post your full keycode publicly.
After setup: using SecureAnywhere without manual scheduling
Once the first scan is complete, you can leave SecureAnywhere installed and running. Webroot describes two ongoing behaviors in its support instructions: an automatic daily scan and continuous monitoring of activity while you surf the internet. The initial scan is therefore the setup checkpoint; routine protection does not require you to open the application every day and start a scan manually.

Keep the application installed and its permissions intact. If you later upgrade macOS, change security settings, or move the software to another computer, recheck the current requirements and follow any new permission prompts shown by that release. A changed privacy setting can affect what the Mac application is able to inspect.
Do not infer a protection result from the installation process alone. Webroot’s installation guidance explains when scanning and monitoring begin, but it does not provide a guaranteed scan duration, detection rate, or performance comparison. For those questions, consult a current product-specific source rather than assuming a number.
