UnderPeaks Core is publisher-described free, open-source software that you run on your own infrastructure. Its documented setup uses Git, Node.js and npm, a database, and a browser-based installer. UnderPeaks says you can then use its underpeaks-nxf command-line tool to generate Flutter or Next.js projects from a shared model. The steps below reflect the publisher’s documented workflow, not an independently tested installation.

What UnderPeaks Core does—and what you operate

UnderPeaks describes Core as a self-hosted content editor, backend, and REST API. The vendor says it can generate Flutter and Next.js source code from a shared data model, and that the generated code can be edited and deployed on your own infrastructure. These are product claims; the available material does not independently establish the quality or behavior of generated projects.

Core and Studio are different operating choices. UnderPeaks presents Core as software you run yourself, while Studio is its hosted option, described as including managed hosting and additional features. The product material reviewed here does not establish Studio’s current plan terms or pricing.

The UnderPeaks product page describes Core as free and open-source, using both “Apache-style open license” and “MIT-friendly license” language. The October 1 installation guide says Apache 2.0. Because those descriptions are not consistent enough to settle the exact license, check the repository’s actual LICENSE file before relying on a particular set of license terms.

What you need before installing

The installation guide lists Node.js and npm, Git, and a database as prerequisites. It also says to have database connection details available. UnderPeaks names these five database options:

  • Firebase
  • Supabase
  • MongoDB
  • MySQL
  • PostgreSQL

The publisher does not compare their cost, performance, or suitability for different workloads. To choose, consider which system you already know, how and where you plan to host it, compatibility with an existing project, your backup and restore practices, and the connection and network configuration you can support.

UnderPeaks also says a free account and license key are needed for code generation. That requirement is distinct from the publisher’s description of Core itself as free.

Install Core using the documented flow

The publisher’s setup process starts the application locally, then uses a browser installer to configure the database and create an administrator account.

  1. Clone the Core repository. Use the repository’s current clone instructions; the installation material does not provide a repository URL to reproduce here.
  2. Install dependencies. In the cloned project directory, run npm install.
  3. Start the development server. Run npm run dev.
  4. Open the installer. Visit http://localhost:3000 in a browser on the machine that can reach the server.
  5. Configure a database. Choose one of the options presented and enter its connection details. The guide says Core tests the connection and creates system tables.
  6. Create the administrator account. Complete the installer’s first-admin step.
  7. Enter the license key. The publisher says the free account/license key is required for code generation. The installer is also described as writing environment configuration and offering optional demo content.

The guide describes a Core interface tour covering Shared Models, Pages, Menu, Navigator, Theme, Storage, Users, and Settings. Exact screens and labels may vary as the product changes.

Generate a Flutter or Next.js project

UnderPeaks documents this command-line workflow after Core is set up:

  1. Install the underpeaks-nxf CLI, following the vendor’s current instructions.
  2. Log in by running nxf login.
  3. Generate the desired project with nxf generate flutter or nxf generate nextjs.

UnderPeaks says generated output includes models, an API client, and authentication flows. Treat this as the vendor’s description rather than a guarantee about a particular project; inspect the generated source and adapt it to your app before deployment.

What changes when you deploy a generated Next.js app?

Running the documented local setup is not the same as operating a production Next.js service. The official Next.js self-hosting guide, updated October 1, 2026, recommends placing a reverse proxy such as nginx in front of a self-hosted server. It also notes that multiple instances require attention to shared caching and cache-tag coordination. Those are Next.js operations considerations—not UnderPeaks-specific requirements—and do not mean a single local installation needs nginx or distributed caching.

What is announced, but not available yet?

UnderPeaks’ product page says an SDK for authentication, storage, notifications, and other modules is planned for December 2026. That is a future vendor-announced plan, not an available feature as of the October 2026 materials. The page also labels the displayed API as a preview that may change.

The “in 5 minutes” wording in one guide’s title is promotional framing; the reviewed material does not establish a measured installation time.
