Short answer: NewYork is a Steam Workshop map mod for DayZ, not a standalone map you buy separately. A working server needs the NewYork files, NewyorkServerPack, Fishy Urban Pack, the author’s NewYork mission, valid server keys, and a launch configuration that loads the map and selects DayZOffline.Newyork. On a managed host, the panel can install the map and dependencies for you. On a self-managed server, you must download the Workshop content, copy public .bikey files into the server’s keys directory, set -mod=, and set -mission=DayZOffline.Newyork.
There is an important availability warning: the current Steam Workshop listing is marked removed/incompatible. Check that the map and both required dependencies are downloadable to your account and server before changing a production installation. If the files cannot be obtained, no launch-parameter change will make the server run the map.
What you need before installing NewYork
Prepare the server before touching its mod list. NewYork is a large Workshop download reported at 1.554 GB on the 2025 Workshop listing, and it is made up of more than one moving part: Workshop binaries, a separate mission component, and the key files used for signature verification.
Required content
- The NewYork map mod.
- NewyorkServerPack, listed as a required item by the map.
- Fishy Urban Pack, also listed as required.
- The NewYork mission folder, identified in the hosting instructions as
DayZOffline.Newyork. - A current copy of the public
.bikeyfiles from every installed mod.
Back up and start clean
Take a complete server backup before installing or updating anything. Include the mission directory, persistence files, configuration files, and the server’s keys directory. If possible, test NewYork on a vanilla or otherwise clean DayZ installation first. Add unrelated Workshop mods only after the map starts successfully; this makes a dependency or load-order failure much easier to identify.

Check availability first
The Workshop page records an update dated 2025-06-11, but its current status is removed/incompatible. Treat that status as a deployment risk rather than assuming an old download, cached copy, or third-party mirror is legitimate. Verify that you can download NewYork, NewyorkServerPack, and Fishy Urban Pack through your chosen installation method. Do not promise players a launch date until all three items are available to the server and to the clients that will join it.
Choose a managed host or a self-managed server
The two routes use the same DayZ files but place the maintenance burden in different hands.

Whichever route you choose, the current removed/incompatible Workshop status remains a prerequisite. A managed panel cannot install an item that the account or download service can no longer access.
Install NewYork on a managed DayZ host
Panel names differ, but the normal sequence is deliberately simple. Do not leave the server running while changing its mod set.
- Stop the server. Use the host control panel’s Stop or Shutdown action and wait until the process is fully offline.
- Create a backup or snapshot. Save the current mission, persistence, configuration, and keys before installing the map.
- Open Mod Manager. Find the community-map category or search for NewYork. Confirm that the result is the intended Workshop item, not an unrelated map with a similar name.
- Install NewYork. Start the panel installation. The hosting instructions state that this workflow installs NewyorkServerPack and Fishy Urban Pack automatically; verify that all three appear in the installed-mod list when the job completes.
- Set the mission. In the panel’s mission, map, or server-configuration field, choose the NewYork mission. The mission name supplied for this map is
DayZOffline.Newyork. If the panel uses a dropdown, select the equivalent NewYork entry rather than the default Chernarus mission. - Check the generated mod list. Make sure NewYork and its two required items are enabled. If the panel displays folder names rather than Workshop titles, record the actual directories it selected; those names are what the server command line must load.
- Start and wait for initialization. The first startup can take longer while the server indexes files. Do not repeatedly restart it during that process.
- Read the Web Console or Log Viewer. Look for confirmation that the NewYork PBO files loaded and for errors naming a missing dependency, key, or mission folder.
- Test with one client. Join using the same map and dependency versions shown by the server. Only after a clean connection should you restore additional gameplay or administration mods.
If the host does not offer NewYork in Mod Manager, do not substitute an arbitrary upload. Ask whether the provider can supply the exact Workshop item and mission, and confirm that its current availability status is understood.
Install NewYork on a self-managed DayZ dedicated server
Self-hosting gives you direct control over files, but every required component must be correct. Use SteamCMD or another server-management tool that can download DayZ Workshop data. Bohemia Interactive’s official server manager is intended to download DayZ server and Workshop mod content; follow its current documentation for authentication, storage paths, and update behavior.

Download NewYork together with NewyorkServerPack and Fishy Urban Pack. Keep each Workshop item in its own mod directory. Do not merge their PBO files into one folder: the server and the updater need to distinguish the individual mods, and the map’s author expressly prohibits repackaging.
After downloading, check that each directory contains the expected mod data and that the mission files supplied for NewYork are present where the hosting instructions specify. The exact folder names can vary with the download tool, so use the names created on your system rather than guessing from the display titles.
2. Place the mod directories on the server
Copy the three downloaded mod directories to the location from which your DayZ server starts its Workshop mods. Keep the directory structure intact. A missing or renamed PBO can produce a startup error even when the Workshop download itself completed successfully.
3. Install the public signature keys
Open each mod’s Keys folder and copy its public .bikey files into the DayZ server’s top-level keys directory. The keys are not loaded through -mod=; they are read from the server key directory for client-server signature verification. Include the keys from NewYork, NewyorkServerPack, Fishy Urban Pack, and any other signed mod you enable.

Do not copy private signing material, alter a key’s filename, or hide keys inside a mod directory and assume the server will find them. If a client is rejected for a signature mismatch, compare the server’s keys contents with the public keys shipped by the exact mod versions installed on the client.
4. Add the mods to the startup command
Bohemia documents -mod= as the server parameter for loading mods. Add the actual NewYork, NewyorkServerPack, and Fishy Urban Pack directories to that parameter using the separator required by your operating system and launch script. Keep every required client-side mod in the list; loading only NewYork is not sufficient when its Workshop page declares the other two as dependencies.
Do not copy a panel’s display label blindly into the command line. A space, punctuation mark, or renamed directory can prevent a mod from loading. Confirm the resolved paths in the startup log, and quote paths when your operating system or script requires quoting.
5. Select the NewYork mission
Use -mission= to tell the server which mission to run. Set it to DayZOffline.Newyork, or to the exact equivalent path used by your server layout. If the parameter still points to the default Chernarus mission, the server may start while presenting the wrong world, or it may fail when the selected mission files do not match the loaded map.

6. Start once and inspect the RPT log
Launch the server and wait through initialization. Open the server RPT log and look for the first meaningful error, not merely the final shutdown message. Typical useful clues identify a missing PBO, an unavailable dependency, a signature key problem, or a mission path that cannot be found.
How to verify a successful installation
A successful process has more evidence than a server window that stays open. Check each layer in order:
- Availability: all three Workshop items downloaded without an access or compatibility error.
- Files: NewYork, NewyorkServerPack, and Fishy Urban Pack remain separate and contain their downloaded data.
- Keys: public
.bikeyfiles from each installed mod are in the server’skeysdirectory. - Launch: the startup configuration includes every required mod in
-mod=. - Mission: the server uses
-mission=DayZOffline.Newyorkrather than a Chernarus mission. - Logs: the Web Console, Log Viewer, or RPT log shows no missing-PBO, missing-key, dependency, or mission-load error.
- Client test: a client with matching versions can connect and load into the NewYork environment.
Once that checklist passes, add other mods one at a time. If the map breaks after an addition, remove the last change first instead of reinstalling every component.

NewYork’s Workshop content and its mission are separate update surfaces. Update NewYork, NewyorkServerPack, and Fishy Urban Pack as Workshop mods, then apply the host’s NewYork mission update. The hosting instructions describe that update as creating DayZOffline.Newyork_UPDATED and copying persistence files.
When no XML files were customized
If you have not edited loot, event, or spawn XML files, point Config.cfg at the updated mission after confirming the update completed. Keep the old mission in your backup until the new version has started and players can connect.

When XML files were customized
Do not overwrite a live customized mission blindly. Compare the old and new mission versions, then merge your edits into the updated loot, event, spawn, or other XML files. A wholesale copy can discard map fixes; a wholesale replacement can discard your server’s economy and event settings. Validate the XML and start with a backup that lets you roll back.

A DayZ client or server update can temporarily break a map until its developer updates the mod. If NewYork stops loading immediately after a game update, first confirm that the map and both dependencies have a compatible release. Avoid mixing old map files with newer dependency files unless the developer or host explicitly supports that combination.
Troubleshooting NewYork startup and connection errors

NewYork’s distribution restrictions
The map author, RedHunter, states that hosts do not need to repack or take files because keys and mission files are released for hosting. The same Workshop listing prohibits repackaging, derivative works, and inclusion in a server pack or mod pack. Treat those statements as the author’s usage terms: install the published files as supplied, do not combine them into a redistributed package, and do not publish modified derivatives without explicit permission.

- Back up the server, mission, persistence, configuration, and keys.
- Install the three Workshop items without merging their directories.
- Copy their public

Is NewYork a separate paid DayZ map?
No. It is a Steam Workshop map mod. The required NewyorkServerPack and Fishy Urban Pack must also be available and installed.
Can a managed host install NewYork automatically?
