To install Namalsk on a DayZ Standalone server, deploy both official Workshop components—Namalsk Island for the terrain and Namalsk Survival for the gameplay content—copy sumrak.bikey into the server’s keys directory, select a supplied Namalsk mission, and add both mod folders to the launch command. Back up any existing world first, then verify the startup logs before allowing players to join.
What the Namalsk installation contains
Namalsk is delivered as two official Workshop items:
- Namalsk Island supplies the map terrain.
- Namalsk Survival supplies the survival and gameplay content designed for the island.
The standard server setup uses both packages. The official FAQ says either component can run without the other, but a normal Namalsk Survival server should load both together. Install or subscribe to both items through Steam Workshop, then make current server copies of their folders available in the DayZ server root. The expected folder names are @Namalsk Island and @Namalsk Survival; do not rename them unless your host panel explicitly requires a different name and you also change the launch command to match.
Prepare the server before changing maps
Back up the current world
Stop the DayZ server and make a complete copy of the existing server data before replacing a Chernarus or Livonia mission. Keep the backup outside the live server directory and label it with the date and map. A map switch can leave old save data misaligned with the new mission; restoring the backup is the recovery path if that happens.

Confirm access to the required directories
You need to be able to place files in the DayZ server root and its keys, mpmissions, and profile/log directories. A managed host may expose these through a file manager rather than a desktop folder. Host panels can also copy Workshop files and keys automatically, so check what is already present before uploading duplicates.
Plan the player count realistically
The Namalsk author recommends a maximum of 30–40 players based on practical experience. This is an undated recommendation, not an independent benchmark or an official capacity guarantee. Treat it as a starting point and lower the limit if your hardware, mission edits, or other server mods produce warnings or unstable performance.

Install both Workshop components
- Subscribe to Namalsk Island and Namalsk Survival. Install both official Workshop items on the machine or hosting workflow you use to obtain server files.
- Copy the server folders. Place up-to-date
@Namalsk Islandand@Namalsk Survivalfolders directly in the DayZ server root. The root is the directory containing the server executable and the normal configuration folders. - Check the folder level. Each mod folder should contain its own package contents. Avoid an accidental extra nesting such as
@Namalsk Island@Namalsk Island, which prevents the server from finding its PBO files. - Install the signing key. Open the Namalsk package’s
Keysfolder and copysumrak.bikeyinto the DayZ server’skeysfolder. If your host installer already placed the key there, leave the existing copy in place and verify the logs rather than repeatedly uploading it.
The server must have both mod directories and the key before you attempt a first launch. A client subscription alone does not make the content available to a dedicated server.
Choose Regular or Hardcore
Namalsk supplies separate mission presets. Select one before editing the server configuration; the mission determines economy, equipment, vehicles, building rules, and seasonal temperature behavior.

Copy the selected mission
Copy the supplied Regular or Hardcore mission directory into the server’s mpmissions directory. Package and host labels can differ: you may see names such as regular.namalsk, hardcore.namalsk, or dayzOffline.namalsk. Use the exact directory name shipped with your package or displayed by the host panel. Do not substitute a similarly named folder from another map.
Match the configuration template
Use the Namalsk serverDZ.cfg template that corresponds to the selected mission, or adapt your existing configuration so its mission/template value points to the exact Namalsk folder name. If the map fails to appear, set this value manually instead of relying on an old Chernarus or Livonia setting.

Set the mission and map values
Open serverDZ.cfg and replace the old mission/template reference with the exact Namalsk mission directory you copied. Keep the rest of your administrative settings only after checking that they are compatible with the new mission. A host panel may expose this as a “Mission,” “Template,” or “Map” field rather than showing the configuration file directly.
Understand cfgGameplay.json precedence
If cfgGameplay.json defines a gameplay value, it takes priority over the corresponding value in the server configuration. The Namalsk documentation calls this out specifically for lightingConfig. Values 222 and 223 are documented for dark and bright night lighting, respectively. Change the higher-priority file when your server appears to ignore a lighting setting in serverDZ.cfg.

Do not copy a generic economy file without review
Namalsk uses different Central Economy parameters and map-scale assumptions from standard Chernarus and Livonia. Do not blindly reuse a stock types.xml. If you edit the selected mission’s XML files for loot or vehicles, preserve valid XML and Namalsk coordinates. A malformed file can stop spawns or prevent the mission from loading.
Add Namalsk to the launch command
A Windows launch command can look like this:
DayZServer_x64.exe -config=serverDZ.cfg -port=2302 -profiles=profiles -mod=@Namalsk Survival;@Namalsk Island -dologs -adminlog -netlog -freezecheckThis example uses the standard configuration file, port 2302, a profiles directory for logs and profiles, both Namalsk mods, and diagnostic logging switches. Adjust the executable path, configuration path, profiles directory, port, and any machine-specific CPU or service options to fit your installation. If your host panel has separate mod fields, enter both mod names in the same order shown by the panel’s documentation and confirm that the resulting command contains both names.
Check the command for common mistakes
- Both
@Namalsk Survivaland@Namalsk Islandappear in-mod. - The spelling and spaces match the actual folder names.
- The command points to the intended
serverDZ.cfg. - The profile directory is writable, so startup errors are recorded.
- The selected mission folder name in the configuration matches the directory in
mpmissions.
Start once and validate before inviting players
- Stop any running server process and apply the file changes.
- Start the server with the Namalsk command and wait for initialization to finish.
- Inspect the startup and server logs in the configured profiles directory.
- Confirm that neither mod reports a missing PBO or missing dependency.
- Confirm that the key check accepts
sumrak.bikey. - Confirm that the selected mission/template loads without a mission-folder error.
- Join with a test account, verify the Namalsk environment and expected loot behavior, then stop the test if the logs show unresolved errors.
Keep -dologs, -adminlog, -netlog, and -freezecheck enabled during this first validation. They provide the evidence needed to distinguish a bad command from a bad mission file.
Troubleshoot the most common failures
“PBO” or mod-not-found errors
Verify that both mod folders are in the server root, not only on the client, and that both exact names appear after -mod. Check for an extra directory level and compare the folder spelling with the command. Restart after correcting the path so the log reflects the current files.

Missing-key or signature errors
Confirm that sumrak.bikey is inside the server’s keys directory. Some hosted installers copy it automatically; read the current startup log before moving files or adding another copy. A key in the mod folder but not in the server-level keys directory will not satisfy the server’s signature check.

Check the mission/template value in serverDZ.cfg and set it manually to the exact supplied folder name. Names such as regular.namalsk, hardcore.namalsk, and dayzOffline.namalsk are alternatives, not interchangeable values. Also verify that the selected directory is directly under mpmissions.
Loot or vehicles are missing
First determine whether the result is intentional: Hardcore has no vehicles and lower weapon/ammunition availability. For other cases, inspect the XML files in the selected mission. Correct malformed XML and keep coordinates appropriate for Namalsk rather than importing unreviewed Chernarus or Livonia values.
Old world data causes problems
Stop the server and restore the backup made before the map change if the old save is damaged or appears misaligned. Do not delete the only copy of the previous world while diagnosing the switch.

Running only one Namalsk component
The official FAQ permits Namalsk Island and Namalsk Survival to run independently, but this is not the normal combined setup. If you intentionally run only Namalsk Island, remove the types_dzn.xml include from cfgeconomycore.xml. That include belongs to Survival-package item spawning; leaving it in an Island-only setup can reference content that is not installed.
If you run only Namalsk Survival, follow the package’s own dependency instructions and validate the mission and economy files before opening the server. For the usual Namalsk experience, keep both official folders enabled and use the matching mission preset.
Namalsk monetization rule
The official README states: “You cannot monetize any server that is running Namalsk Island / Namalsk Survival mods!” This includes selling priority-queue access. Donations are permitted only when donors receive nothing in return; the same README says: “You may accept donations from people, but you are obliged to give nothing in return.” Do not sell perks, queue priority, items, access tiers, or other benefits on a server running either Namalsk mod.
