DayZ-SA-Tomato is a discontinued DayZ Standalone administration mod. The Workshop publisher says DayZ updates repeatedly broke mods, so this procedure is legacy documentation: test it against the exact DayZ server build, client build and host panel you use before putting it on a live server.
When the files and paths are correct, installation has two sides: copy the mod to both the server and the client, place SchnitzelPommes.bikey in the server’s keys directory, start the server with -mod=DayZ-SA-Tomato, place Tomato_Profiles under the directory named by -profiles, activate your account with #login and /opme, restart, and then press M in game.

The mod is no longer maintained. Its Workshop notice attributes the discontinuation to DayZ updates breaking mods, which means a setup that worked on an older build can fail after a game or server update. Keep a copy of the original server files and configuration, and test on a non-production instance first.
You need all of the following:
- Access to the DayZ server root, its
keysfolder and its profiles directory, or a host panel that exposes equivalent controls. - Access to the client computer’s DayZ installation and the DayZ Launcher.
- The extracted DayZ-SA-Tomato project archive.
- The server’s configured administrator password for the initial
#logincommand. - The Steam64 ID of each person who will receive administrator access.
Do not assume that a directory is called profiles. DayZ can use any directory supplied to -profiles; the important point is that it is the directory containing Tomato_Profiles.

Install the files on a self-managed server
Perform these steps with the server stopped whenever you are copying files or changing configuration.
1. Extract the archive
Extract the project archive without renaming the mod directory. The folder must be named exactly DayZ-SA-Tomato unless you also change the launch parameter to match the extracted name. A mismatch between the folder name and the parameter is one of the most common causes of a server that starts without the menu.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2. Copy the mod to both sides
Copy the complete DayZ-SA-Tomato folder into the DayZ server root. Copy that same folder into the client’s DayZ root as well. The server copy is loaded by the server process; the client copy is what the DayZ Launcher enables before you join. Copying it to only one side leaves the versions out of sync.
Do not copy only a subfolder such as keys or Tomato_Profiles and expect the mod to load. Preserve the archive’s internal structure.
3. Install the signature key
Open the mod’s keys folder and copy SchnitzelPommes.bikey into the server root’s keys folder. The key belongs on the server; it is not a client launch option. If the key is in the wrong directory, the server can reject the mod or clients can fail signature checks.
4. Set the server launch parameters
Add the following parameter to the server’s start command or host-panel launch-parameter field:
-mod=DayZ-SA-Tomato
If the start command does not already contain a profiles parameter, add one that points to the directory where the server stores profiles:
-profiles=<path to profiles>
Replace the angle-bracket text with the real path; do not type the brackets. For example, if your host uses a directory named my_profiles, the parameter must point to that directory, not to a directory you have created with a different name. The directory identified by -profiles must contain Tomato_Profiles after step 5.

DayZ’s general mod guidance distinguishes -mod= from -servermod=: -mod= is for a mod required by both server and clients, while -servermod= is for a server-only mod. Tomato’s README specifically calls for -mod=DayZ-SA-Tomato. Keep that setting unless a current version of the mod explicitly documents a different requirement.
When more than one mod is loaded through the same parameter, separate entries with semicolons. Keep dependencies in the order required by the server and the mod documentation; a correct folder with an incorrect load order can still fail.

5. Place the Tomato profile data
Move the archive’s Tomato_Profiles folder into the server profiles directory identified by -profiles. The resulting path should look like this:
DayZServer/<your profiles path>/Tomato_Profiles/
The name of the parent directory is not significant. What matters is that the server process resolves -profiles to the parent of Tomato_Profiles. If you put the folder beside the profiles directory, the mod will not find its configuration.

Enable the client copy in DayZ Launcher
On the computer from which you will play, open the DayZ Launcher and use its Local Mod option. Browse to the copied client folder, enable DayZ-SA-Tomato, and keep the client copy at the same version as the server copy.
The launcher step does not replace the server launch parameter. Both sides must load the mod: the server through -mod=DayZ-SA-Tomato and the client through the enabled local mod. If the launcher reports a version or signature mismatch, stop and compare the two extracted folders before attempting to join.
Activate the menu for the first administrator
After the server files and launch parameters are in place, start the server and join with the mod enabled. The first activation uses the server’s configured administrator password and must be followed by a server restart.
- Join the server.
- Press
Tto open chat. - Type
#login ADMINPW, replacingADMINPWwith the server’s actual administrator password, and press Enter. - Press
Tagain, type/opme, and press Enter. - Close the game.
- Stop and restart the DayZ server so the profile and permission changes are reloaded.
- Rejoin without running
#login, then pressM. The Tomato administration menu should open.
The restart is part of the documented activation sequence. Rejoining immediately after /opme without restarting can leave the menu unavailable even when the login command was accepted.

Configure features and messages
Tomato’s feature switches are in:
DayZServer/<your profiles path>/Tomato_Profiles/Config/Config.txt
For a feature that is disabled, change its trailing value from 0 to 1. Preserve everything before the equals sign and preserve the equals sign itself. When editing message text, leave placeholders inside braces unchanged; replacing a placeholder can prevent the mod from formatting the message correctly.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Make one change at a time, save the file, restart the server, and test the affected function. Because the mod is discontinued, a setting documented for an older DayZ build may not behave identically on a current build.
Add another Steam64 administrator
The normal #login and /opme flow is not the only way to grant access. Use the player-file method when a player cannot open the menu or when you need to add another administrator directly.
- Stop the server.
- Find the player’s Steam64 ID.
- Open the player’s file in
Tomato_Profiles/Config/Players/. The filename is the Steam64 ID followed by.player:<STEAM64ID>.player. - Change
Admin = 0toAdmin = 1in that file. - Open
Tomato_Profiles/Config/Config.txtand setSetup = 1. - Save both files, restart the server, and have the player join with the same client mod enabled.
- Test the menu with
M.
Use the ID in the filename, not a character name or an in-game display name. If the wrong player file is edited, the intended administrator will not gain access.
Understand -mod, -servermod and profiles paths
These three settings solve different problems:
| Setting | Use in this installation | What must match |
|---|---|---|
-mod=DayZ-SA-Tomato |
Loads Tomato as a mod needed by the server and clients. | The parameter text must match the extracted folder name exactly. |
-servermod= |
Reserved by DayZ for server-only mods; Tomato’s README does not call for it. | Use only when the specific mod version documents server-only loading. |
-profiles=<path> |
Points DayZ to the directory containing Tomato_Profiles. |
The path must resolve to the parent directory of Tomato_Profiles. |
If your command already has several entries, retain the existing parameters and add the Tomato setting with the separator required by your host or startup script. Multiple mod entries use semicolons, and dependencies may require a particular order.
Managed-host installation
A managed host can work when you cannot edit a local startup script, but support for a discontinued mod is provider-specific. A documented workflow from Pingperfect uses its control panel to install the mod in the DayZ directory, copy the .bikey into the server keys directory, enable the local client mod, and set Admin = 1 in the generated player file. Panel labels, file permissions and available launch-parameter fields can change, so follow the host’s current instructions rather than relying on an old screenshot.
| Task | Self-managed server | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Launch parameters | Edit the startup command directly and add -mod=DayZ-SA-Tomato plus the correct -profiles path. |
Use the panel’s mod or startup-parameter controls; some providers restrict custom parameters. |
| Signature key | Copy SchnitzelPommes.bikey into the server root keys folder. |
Upload or install the key through the panel or file manager if the host permits it. |
| Profiles | Place Tomato_Profiles in the directory named by -profiles. |
Use the panel’s actual profiles location; permissions may prevent direct access. |
| Client distribution | Each player enables the copied folder with DayZ Launcher’s Local Mod option. | Players still need the matching client copy unless the host provides another supported distribution method. |
| Updates and compatibility | You control when DayZ and the mod files change, but must test compatibility yourself. | The host may update DayZ or remove support for an obsolete mod; confirm compatibility before deploying. |
Troubleshoot a menu that does not open
Work through these checks in order. Change one variable at a time and restart the server after correcting a profile or permission setting.
Quick Recap
The server starts, but the mod is not loaded
- Compare the launch parameter with the actual extracted folder name. It must be exactly
DayZ-SA-Tomato, including capitalization and punctuation. - Confirm the complete mod folder is in the server root, not one directory deeper because of an extra archive folder.
- Confirm the client has a matching copy and that DayZ Launcher shows it under Local Mod.
- Check that the server is using
-mod=DayZ-SA-Tomato, not a server-only parameter that leaves the client without the required mod.
The server reports a key or signature problem
- Verify that
SchnitzelPommes.bikeycame from the mod’skeysfolder. - Verify that it is in the server root’s
keysdirectory, not insideDayZ-SA-Tomato/keysafter the copy. - Make sure the client and server use the same mod version. Re-copy both folders from one archive if necessary.
M does nothing
- Confirm that the initial activation was completed:
#login ADMINPW, then/opme, followed by a server restart. - Confirm that you rejoined with the client local mod enabled.
- Stop the server and use the fallback permission method: set
Admin = 1in the correct Steam64-ID player file, setSetup = 1inConfig.txt, restart, and test again. - Check that the Steam64 ID in the filename belongs to the person testing the menu.
The mod cannot find its configuration
- Inspect the value of
-profilesin the actual startup command. - Confirm that
Tomato_Profilesis directly inside that directory. - Do not assume the parent directory must literally be named
profiles; only the path supplied to DayZ matters.
A feature or message behaves incorrectly
- Reopen
Tomato_Profiles/Config/Config.txtand confirm the feature value is exactly0or1as intended. - Check that text before the equals sign, the equals sign and brace-delimited placeholders were not changed.
- Restart the server after saving and test on the same DayZ build for which the files were prepared.
Final pre-production checklist
- The extracted folder name and
-modvalue match exactly. - The full mod folder exists in both the server and client DayZ roots.
SchnitzelPommes.bikeyis in the server rootkeysfolder.-profilespoints to the parent directory ofTomato_Profiles.- The client enables the copied folder through DayZ Launcher’s Local Mod option.
- The first administrator has completed
#login,/opme, a server restart and anMtest. - Additional administrators have the correct Steam64-ID player file with
Admin = 1. - The exact server and client builds have been tested together, with a rollback copy available.
