Reforj is currently recorded as a prerelease Windows game from 4J Studios, and its SteamDB entry lists the release date as to be announced. That means installation is not the same as downloading a finished, generally available retail game: you must first have an account that is currently entitled to an official build.
Once the game is installed and updated, multiplayer uses the in-game Join Game screen. A host loads a world, turns Online on, chooses Friends Only or Public, and optionally sets a password. The joining player selects the listed world and enters that password when requested.
Confirm that you can access an official Reforj build
Before troubleshooting a launcher, verify that your account actually has access. SteamDB identifies Reforj with App ID 3202730 as a Windows title developed and published by 4J Studios, but its record still describes the app as prerelease and gives a release date of “To be announced.” A database record is not proof that every PC user can install the game.

What to check before downloading
- Sign in to the PC account that was granted access, if access was limited to particular accounts.
- Open the official launcher associated with that entitlement and search its Library rather than downloading an executable from a third-party site.
- Confirm that the title shown by the launcher is Reforj from 4J Studios. Do not treat an unrelated similarly named file as the game.
- Have enough free disk space for the launcher to complete its installation and later updates. A current capacity figure is not established in the available documentation, so do not rely on a guessed number.
- Plan to update to the newest build before attempting multiplayer; online behavior and player limits have changed between updates.
Why an apparently missing game may be normal
If Reforj does not appear in your Library, that does not prove that the installation is broken. It may mean that your account does not have access through that platform, that the build is being distributed through a different launcher, or that access has ended. The available information does not verify a current Epic Games Store listing, so do not assume that every Epic account will see Reforj.
Install Reforj through the launcher that lists it
The exact buttons depend on where your account has access. The following Epic Games Launcher sequence is the documented generic workflow; use the equivalent Library installation controls if your entitlement is presented in Steam or another launcher.
Epic Games Launcher workflow
- Install and open Epic Games Launcher from its official distribution channel.
- Sign in with the account that is supposed to have Reforj access.
- Open Library and locate Reforj. If it is not listed, stop and verify the entitlement or the distribution platform instead of searching for an unofficial installer.
- Select Reforj and choose an installation directory when the launcher asks where to put the files.
- Click Install and leave the launcher open while it downloads and verifies the game.
- When the download and installation finish, select Launch.
Do not infer from this sequence that Reforj is currently available to every Epic user. It describes what to do only if the launcher actually lists the game for your account.

Steam or another launcher
If your authorized build is offered through Steam or a different launcher, open that platform’s Library, select Reforj, choose the destination folder if prompted, and start the platform’s normal installation. The available material does not provide a confirmed current storefront listing or a platform-specific price, so avoid guides that present an invented store page, code, or cost.

After installation, let the launcher finish any update or file-verification step before opening the game. Multiplayer troubleshooting performed against an older executable can produce symptoms that disappear after the host and joining player move to the same current build.
First launch checks
- Start Reforj from the launcher that installed it.
- Wait for the main menu to load completely.
- Confirm that a Join Game option is present. The indexed multiplayer documentation describes this as the screen used to find available worlds.
- Open the game’s update or version information, if the menu exposes it, and record the build number so the host and guests can compare it.
- Return to the main menu before changing multiplayer settings; the host will configure Online from the world or game settings when creating a session.
Understand the multiplayer rules before inviting anyone
Online is a deliberate setting
A February 19, 2026 hotfix changed the safe starting behavior: Online is disabled by default, and when it is enabled the default visibility is Friends Only. The same hotfix added a warning about the risks of open online worlds and user-generated content. A newly created or updated world may therefore be unavailable to friends until the host explicitly turns Online on.
Friends Only and Public are not interchangeable:

Player capacity depends on the installed build
Do not quote one universal player number for every Reforj installation. The patch archive reports that Title Update 7 added 8-player support, while an older Reforj page snippet describes a four-player limit. Those figures describe different points in the game’s development. Use the capacity shown by your installed build and its current patch notes when planning a session.

Expect a host-based session
In a 2024 Steam community discussion, 4JNathan wrote: “We currently plan to support peer-to-peer multiplayer in Reforj. We don’t have anything more to announce just yet, but we’re constantly listening to community feedback!” This is a statement of the plan at that time, not a promise about every later build. It means the host’s session and connection are important to the group’s experience; it does not establish a dedicated-server service.

Host a multiplayer world
The host controls whether a world is visible and who can enter it. Configure these settings before asking friends to search.
- Start Reforj and load an existing world or create a new one.
- Open the world or game settings and enable Online. Because the February 19, 2026 hotfix changed the default to disabled, check this switch every time you create or update a world.
- Choose Friends Only for a private group. Select Public only when you deliberately want an open session.
- If the settings offer a password, set one for the world and send it to the intended players through a private channel. Do not post it publicly when the world contains personal creations or other user-generated content.
- Finish loading the world. The session should then be discoverable from the joining player’s Join Game screen, subject to the current build’s capacity and network state.
- If the platform presents an Xbox invite action, use that action to invite friends. The documented flow treats the invite as an available platform feature, but it does not require you to assume that every account will display the same invite controls.
When Friends Only is the right choice
Use Friends Only for a planned group, a private build project, or any world where you know the participants. It matches the post-hotfix default and reduces accidental discovery. A friend still needs the correct game access, an updated build, and a place under the current player limit; visibility alone does not bypass those requirements.
When Public is appropriate
Public is for an intentionally open session. Read the game’s warning about open online worlds and user-generated content before selecting it. If you change a world from Friends Only to Public, tell the group that its audience has changed and consider setting a password. Return to Friends Only after the open session if you do not want the next launch to remain broadly discoverable.
Password practices
A password protects a listed world only when the host actually sets one and communicates the exact value. Share it privately, avoid reusing a sensitive personal password, and change it if it has been posted in a public chat. A joining player who can see the world but cannot enter should first check capitalization, spaces, and whether the host changed the password after the invitation.

Join a friend’s world
- Launch the same current Reforj build used by the host.
- From the main menu, select Join Game.
- Review the available-world list. The multiplayer documentation says it shows each world’s player count and whether it is password protected.
- Select your friend’s world by matching the host’s name or the world details they supplied.
- Enter the password when prompted. If no password prompt appears, the host may have left the world unprotected or changed its settings; confirm privately before assuming the session is open to everyone.
- Wait for the world to finish loading. Do not close the launcher or repeatedly start new join attempts while the first attempt is still processing.
Reading the listing
The player count helps you decide whether the session still has room under the installed build’s limit. It is more useful than relying on an old four-player description because Title Update 7 later reported eight-player support. The password indicator tells you whether to ask the host for credentials before selecting the world.
If the host sends an invite instead
Accept the invite through the platform’s displayed Xbox invite action when one is available, then confirm that Reforj opens the intended world. An invite does not replace the host’s Online setting; a world that remains offline will not become joinable merely because an invitation was sent.

Reforj is missing from the Library
- Check that you are signed into the account that was granted access.
- Look in the launcher’s Library rather than its general store search, because prerelease access may be account-specific.
- Verify which launcher supplied your entitlement. The available information does not confirm a current Epic listing or a universal public download.
- Do not install a repacked executable or enter an access code from an unverified website. If the official account page provides no entitlement, there is no supported installation step to substitute for it.
The launcher shows the game but installation will not start
- Reopen the launcher and sign in again so it can refresh your account entitlement.
- Choose a local installation directory to which the launcher can write, then retry the normal Install action.
- Allow the launcher to finish any pending update or verification before launching Reforj.
- If the game disappears after an update, record the launcher and build information and consult the current official support or patch information; do not replace the files with a random download.
The Join Game list is empty
- Ask the host to verify that the world is loaded and that Online is enabled. The February 19, 2026 hotfix leaves Online disabled by default.
- Have the host check whether the world is set to Friends Only and whether your account is included in the intended friend relationship.
- Confirm that both players are running the same current build. A host on an older executable may not appear or may fail during loading after an update.
- Check the host’s player count. A full session will not accept another player, and the applicable limit can differ by update.
- If the host selected Public, confirm that the world was intentionally opened and that a password has been communicated when one is required.
The world appears but the join fails
- Recheck the password exactly as the host set it.
- Ask the host to leave and reload the world, then confirm Online and visibility again after loading.
- Close and relaunch Reforj on both PCs so each side starts from the same updated build.
- Try the platform invite action if it is offered. Treat the invite as an alternate way to reach the listed session, not as a replacement for the world’s privacy settings.
The game hangs on the loading screen
A February 26, 2026 hotfix addressed online stability and a loading-screen bug affecting players attempting to join. First ensure that the host and joining player have installed that hotfix or a later build. Then restart both game sessions and retry from a freshly loaded world. If the problem remains after the update, record the build shown by each player and the exact point at which loading stops before reporting it through the current official support channel.
The group cannot fit everyone
Check the capacity shown by the current world or build rather than assuming that the older four-player number applies. Title Update 7 reported eight-player support, but a different prerelease build may expose another limit. Remove players who are no longer connected, reload the world, and confirm the count again before concluding that the game is rejecting valid accounts.

You are uncomfortable with an open session
Switch the world to Friends Only, set a password, and avoid sharing the listing publicly. The 2026 warning about open online worlds and user-generated content is a reminder to review who can enter before choosing Public, especially for a world that contains creations you do not want strangers to alter or copy.
Keyboard, mouse, and controller choices
A controller is not a prerequisite for installing Reforj or joining a world. SteamDB lists full controller support, so a USB game controller is an optional PC accessory for players who prefer gamepad input. Choose the input device that is comfortable for you; multiplayer access is determined by the game entitlement, current build, and world settings rather than by owning a controller.
Features you should not assume
The available documentation does not verify a dedicated-server browser, cross-platform play, Steam Remote Play compatibility, a current Epic Reforj listing, a public download link, or a final release date. Steam Remote Play can stream supported Steam games from a host PC and invite friends in general, but that general capability does not prove that Reforj supports it.
Plan sessions around the documented in-game Join Game flow and the host’s Online, Friends Only/Public, password, and capacity settings. If a later official build adds dedicated servers, cross-platform play, or another invitation method, follow that build’s own instructions rather than applying an assumption from another game.
Fastest reliable path
For a private session, the dependable sequence is: obtain authorized access, install Reforj from the launcher that lists it, update both PCs, load the host’s world, enable Online, select Friends Only, set a password if desired, and have the guest use Join Game to select the listing. If the world is not visible, check the host’s Online switch first, then compare builds and the current player count. This approach reflects Reforj’s prerelease status and the privacy changes introduced by the 2026 hotfixes without relying on an unverified storefront, server feature, or universal player limit.
