You cannot install the current GoPro Quik app natively on Windows 11. GoPro discontinued Quik Desktop and announced on November 7, 2024 that “a Windows version will not be released.” As of August 7, 2026, GoPro offers Quik for iOS and Android, not Windows.
On a Windows 11 PC, the supported choices are the browser-based GoPro Web App for cloud media and GoPro Player for local playback, trimming, exporting, and 360-degree reframing. This guide shows which option to use and how to avoid outdated installers and instructions.
Why Quik will not install on Windows 11
There is no current GoPro Quik package for Windows. That means you will not find a supported Quik installation route through:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Microsoft Store: searching for “GoPro Quik” does not provide a current Windows Quik app.
- GoPro’s download pages: GoPro does not provide a supported Quik Desktop
.exeinstaller for Windows. - Command Prompt or PowerShell: there is no current Windows Quik package to install with a command.
Some older articles still tell you to download Quik from gopro.com/apps, connect a camera over USB-C, and follow Quik’s on-screen instructions. Those instructions refer to the former desktop application or older camera manuals. They do not describe GoPro’s current Windows software offering.

Use the GoPro Web App on Windows 11
The GoPro Web App is the closest supported Windows alternative to Quik for managing media stored in your GoPro cloud account. GoPro describes it as a way to view, manage, and share cloud media from a browser on any device.
A GoPro subscription is required. The web app is intended for footage that has been uploaded to GoPro cloud storage; it is not a replacement for copying files directly from an SD card or camera.
Open GoPro’s web app
- Open Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or another current desktop browser on Windows 11.
- Go to GoPro’s Quik page.
- Find the GoPro Web App option and select Learn More.
- When GoPro redirects you to gopro.com/login, sign in to your GoPro account.
- Open your Media Library to review, upload, download, or share cloud-stored footage.
GoPro says the desktop-browser version includes functions that are not available in the Quik mobile app, including more advanced download options and visibility into upload status.

Install the web app as a Windows shortcut
GoPro says the web app can be installed on a desktop for easier access. This is a browser app or shortcut, not a native GoPro Quik Windows installer. The exact menu wording can vary by browser.
In Microsoft Edge:
- Open the GoPro Web App and sign in.
- Select the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Apps, then Install this site as an app, if the option is available.
- Confirm the installation.
In Google Chrome:
- Open the GoPro Web App and sign in.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Cast, save, and share, then Install page as app, when offered.
- Select Install.
The resulting entry opens the GoPro website in an app-like window. It does not add the mobile Quik editor or create a native Windows Quik installation.

Install GoPro Player for local Windows editing
If your footage is on a Windows 11 drive, SD card, or camera rather than in GoPro cloud storage, use GoPro Player. GoPro lists Player as available for Windows and macOS. Its Windows features include playback, trimming, exporting, and 360 reframing.
- Open GoPro’s GoPro Player page.
- Select Download + install Player today.
- Download the Windows installer from GoPro.
- Run the downloaded installer and approve the Windows security prompt if one appears.
- Complete the setup wizard, then launch GoPro Player from the Windows Start menu.
- Use Player to open compatible GoPro files from your internal drive, external drive, or SD card.
GoPro lists compatibility with Windows 10 or later, so Windows 11 meets the operating-system requirement. Player supports GoPro HERO and MAX cameras, but your computer also needs a graphics card that supports HEVC decoding. If HEVC support is missing, high-resolution or HEVC-encoded footage may fail to play smoothly or may not open correctly.

What GoPro Player does not replace
GoPro Player is not the discontinued Quik Desktop app. It is primarily a media player and utility for local files. It does not restore Quik’s former Windows workflow or provide the mobile Quik application’s full cloud and automatic-editing experience.
HyperSmooth Pro is also a separately licensed premium feature inside Player. Playback and the other free Player functions do not automatically include the stabilization feature.
GoPro says HyperSmooth Pro fully supports HERO8 and later footage, including footage recorded with HyperSmooth enabled. For older supported cameras, stabilization compatibility requires recording with both EIS and HyperSmooth turned off.

How to transfer camera files without Quik
You do not need Quik to copy footage to Windows 11. Remove the camera’s microSD card and use a USB card reader, or connect the camera with a USB-C cable if the camera exposes its storage to Windows. Then:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Open File Explorer with
Windows + E. - Select the camera or card under This PC.
- Open the camera’s
DCIMfolder. - Copy the video and photo files to a folder on your Windows drive.
- Open the copied files in GoPro Player or another compatible editor.
A USB connection may charge the camera rather than expose its files, depending on the camera model, cable, and USB mode. If the camera does not appear in File Explorer, use a card reader instead. Also try a data-capable USB-C cable rather than a charge-only cable.
Do not download unofficial Quik installers
Because there is no current Windows Quik installer, websites offering a “latest Quik for Windows 11” download are not providing the current official GoPro application. An old installer may be incomplete, unsupported, or unsafe. It may also install a program that no longer connects correctly to GoPro services.
For current software, use only GoPro’s official pages. On GoPro’s current Quik page, the Windows-related options are GoPro Player, GoPro Web App, Open GoPro, and GoPro Reframe. The page does not list a Windows Quik download.

My local files do not appear in the Web App
The Web App is for cloud media. Files that exist only on your camera or Windows drive will not automatically appear there. Copy them from the SD card or camera first, or upload them through the web app if you want them in GoPro cloud storage.
GoPro Player will not play my video
Check that the file is a supported GoPro video and that your graphics hardware supports HEVC decoding. Install current Windows and graphics-driver updates, then try copying the file from the camera or SD card to a local drive before opening it.
I found an old guide telling me to install Quik from GoPro
Check its publication date. GoPro’s November 7, 2024 announcement discontinued Quik Desktop and stated that a Windows version would not be released. Older download instructions and camera manuals cannot override that current support position.
