Insert the 64 GB Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition card into the Nintendo Switch 2 with its label facing the console screen, push until it clicks, then select the Cyberpunk software icon on the HOME Menu. The physical edition includes both Cyberpunk 2077 and the Phantom Liberty expansion. CD PROJEKT RED describes it as a regular 64 GB game card, not a game-key card, so you should start with the normal card-installation process rather than assuming that the entire game must be downloaded.
What is on the Switch 2 card?
CD PROJEKT RED announced on June 5, 2025, that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition was available for Nintendo Switch 2. This is the edition to look for when you want the base game and Phantom Liberty together. Its physical release uses a 64 GB Nintendo Switch 2 game card.
The publisher calls it a game card, while Nintendo uses the separate term game-key card for cards that contain a license or key but not the complete game data. That wording matters: Nintendo’s game-key-card process requires an internet download, available storage, and the card to remain inserted whenever you play. Because the Cyberpunk release is described as a 64 GB game card rather than a game-key card, the correct starting assumption is a normal physical-card installation.

Before you insert the card
Confirm the edition
- Look for the full name Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for Nintendo Switch 2.
- Confirm that the package identifies a physical card and, where stated, the 64 GB capacity.
- Remember that this edition includes both the base game and Phantom Liberty; you do not need to buy that expansion separately for this package.
Prepare the console
- Turn on the Nintendo Switch 2 and reach the HOME Menu or the console’s normal operating screen.
- Locate the game-card slot cover on the top-right of the console.
- Have internet access available in case the console requests an update or a game-key-style download prompt appears. The presence of an update prompt does not by itself prove that the card is a game-key card.
Do not estimate storage from the card label
A 64 GB card capacity is not the same thing as a published free-space requirement for every installation state. The official information available for this release does not state one exact amount of free system-memory or microSD Express space that every owner must reserve. If the console reports a storage requirement, use the number shown on your own HOME Menu and follow the publisher’s storage-support guidance rather than substituting a figure from another edition or platform.
Official installation steps for the physical card
- Open the slot. With the Switch 2 turned on, open the game-card slot cover on the top-right of the console.
- Orient the card. Hold the Cyberpunk card so its label faces in the same direction as the Switch 2 screen.
- Insert it fully. Slide the card into the slot until it clicks. Do not stop at a partially inserted position.
- Return to HOME. Go back to the HOME Menu after the card is seated.
- Select the software icon. Choose the Cyberpunk software icon that appears. The icon is the console’s confirmation that it has recognized the inserted card.
These are Nintendo’s standard physical-card steps. They are different from a process in which a card immediately opens a download workflow. Start here because the publisher identifies this Cyberpunk package as a 64 GB game card.
What should happen after insertion?
Normal physical-card result
After the card clicks into place, a Cyberpunk software icon should be available on the HOME Menu. Selecting it starts the title from the inserted card. The card is the physical copy you are using, so keep it available whenever you want to launch that copy.

The console may display an on-screen request for an update or another installation action. Read the exact wording before choosing an option. If it is an update, proceed through the HOME Menu prompt and allow the console to use the storage it identifies. If the prompt concerns game size or storage, consult CD PROJEKT RED’s Switch 2 installation support hub, which currently includes a game-size-and-storage support link.

The existence of a download prompt does not overturn the product description. A regular card can receive updates or supplementary data; Nintendo’s defining rule for a game-key card is that the card itself does not contain the full game data and acts as a key for an internet download. Identify the prompt by its wording and by the packaging or HOME Menu label, not by the mere fact that some data is requested.
Regular game card versus game-key card
Nintendo documents four practical differences. Use this table to decide which instructions apply to the card in your hands.

For Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, the publisher’s 64 GB game-card description places the release in the regular-card column. That conclusion is an inference from the publisher’s terminology and Nintendo’s definition; if your retail packaging or HOME Menu explicitly says “game-key card,” follow the game-key column instead.

Do not decide from the card’s appearance alone. Look for the console or packaging to identify it as a game-key card. Nintendo’s documented workflow has these characteristics:

- Insert the card into the Switch 2.
- Follow the HOME Menu instructions to begin downloading the game.
- Provide enough free space in system memory or on a microSD Express card.
- Maintain an internet connection for the download and the first launch.
- Leave the game-key card inserted whenever you play.
If none of those download instructions appears and the card is identified as the 64 GB Cyberpunk game card, use the regular insertion steps above. If a prompt does appear, do not cancel it merely because you expected a card-only launch; read whether it is asking for an update, storage space, or the full game-key download.
Installing or updating without guessing the storage requirement
When the HOME Menu reports insufficient space
Record the exact amount shown by the console and use the available storage-management option presented there. The official information for this article does not publish one universal free-space requirement for the physical Cyberpunk card, and the required amount can depend on what the console is being asked to install. A number copied from a different platform, edition, patch, or card type could mislead you.
When the prompt names an update

When the prompt behaves like a full download

Troubleshooting by symptom
The Cyberpunk icon does not appear
- Return to the slot cover and confirm that the card is oriented with its label facing the Switch 2 screen.
- Push the card in until it clicks, then return to the HOME Menu.
- Check whether the card or its packaging identifies a different card type, especially a game-key card.
- If the console still does not recognize the card, use CD PROJEKT RED’s Switch 2 installation support entry for damaged or broken cards rather than attempting to repair the card yourself.
The console asks for a download
Read whether the message requests an update, storage space, or the initial game-key download. For an update or storage message, follow the console’s instructions and the publisher’s game-size-and-storage support guidance. For a game-key download, use Nintendo’s game-key process: connect to the internet, provide the required system-memory or microSD Express space, and keep the card inserted for play.
A download code does not work
Do not assume that a non-working code prevents the physical card from functioning. CD PROJEKT RED’s Switch 2 installation support hub lists a separate article for non-working download codes. Use that support path for a code problem and keep the card and purchase materials available when following its instructions.
You need a particular patch
The same support hub lists a Patch 2.31 resource. Use that current publisher support entry when you are specifically trying to locate or troubleshoot that patch, rather than downloading an unofficial file.

The card is damaged or broken
A damaged card is a hardware or media-support case, not an invitation to bypass the card with an unverified download. Use the publisher’s damaged-or-broken-card support article listed in its Switch 2 installation hub. The available official material does not establish a universal recovery procedure or replacement policy, so follow the instructions for your region and purchase.

Keeping the installation understandable
Separate three different events
- Card recognition: the card is seated and its Cyberpunk icon appears on HOME.
- Game launch: you select that icon to start the physical copy.
- Additional data: the console requests an update, storage, or a game-key download.
These events can occur close together, but they are not interchangeable. Card recognition does not prove that an update has been installed, and an update prompt does not prove that the retail card is a game-key card.
Keep the edition details with the card
Write down or retain the product name, the fact that it is the Ultimate Edition, and the 64 GB card description. Those details help distinguish this package from a different Cyberpunk release, a download code, or a game-key card when you contact support.
Use official wording when asking for help
Tell support whether the HOME Menu icon appears, whether the card clicks into the slot, and what the console’s exact prompt says. Also identify whether the issue concerns Patch 2.31, storage, a download code, or physical card damage.
