Godlike.Host offers hosted BeamNG.drive servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
To install a custom map on a BeamMP server, keep the map compressed as a .zip file, place it in the server’s Resources/Client directory, and point the Map setting in ServerConfig.toml to the map’s internal level path ending in /info.json. Restart the server so BeamMP loads the client resource, then connect and verify that players can download it.
What BeamMP needs before a custom map can work
A BeamMP custom map is distributed as a client resource. The server advertises that resource to connecting players, while the Map setting tells BeamMP which level definition to load. The ZIP filename is not the value used in the configuration; the important identifier is the folder name inside the archive’s levels directory.
Prerequisites
- A BeamMP server that has been started at least once. The first launch creates
ServerConfig.tomland the resource directories. - A map mod packaged as a ZIP archive and compatible with the installed BeamNG.drive and BeamMP versions.
- Access to the server working directory and an archive viewer that can inspect ZIP contents without extracting them.
- A way to restart the server and read its console output or
Server.log.
Server resource layout
The default configuration uses ResourceFolder = "Resources". With that setting unchanged, client ZIP files belong in <server working directory>/Resources/Client/. An administrator may choose a different resource-folder location, so check the value of ResourceFolder before copying files if the server has been customized.
BeamMP’s server manual specifies that Resources/Client accepts ZIP files and that resources are loaded when the server starts. This is why copying a map while the process is running does not by itself make the new level available.

Stock maps and custom maps use different workflows
Stock BeamNG.drive levels are already available to the game and do not need to be uploaded to the server. Set the corresponding internal path directly in Map. Common stock paths include:

A downloaded or edited level is treated as a server mod even when its display name looks similar to a stock map. Its archive must be supplied from Resources/Client, and the configuration must reference the level’s internal info.json path.

Obtain a compatible ZIP
Choose a BeamNG map mod that contains a
levelsdirectory. Compatibility matters: a map built for a different BeamNG.drive or BeamMP version can fail before the map-path setting is ever evaluated. Keep the original archive available so you can compare its structure if troubleshooting becomes necessary. -
Copy the archive to the client resource directory
Stop the server if it is running, then copy the map archive into
<server working directory>/Resources/Client/, or into the equivalentClientdirectory under the folder named byResourceFolder. Leave the file compressed. Do not create a directory containing the unpacked map in place of the ZIP. -
Read the internal level folder name
Open the ZIP in an archive viewer and open its
levelsdirectory. Copy the exact name of the map folder there, preserving every character, underscore, and capitalization. Do not derive this value from the download filename; those names often describe the map for people but are not the identifier BeamMP uses.The expected relationship is similar to
levels/myawesomedriftmap2021/info.json. The folder name in this example ismyawesomedriftmap2021; it is not the name of the ZIP itself.The Tool Desk

Set the Map value in ServerConfig.toml
Open
ServerConfig.tomland replace the current map value with the internal path. The value must begin with/levels/and end with/info.json:Map = "/levels/myawesomedriftmap2021/info.json"Substitute the exact folder name you copied from the archive. The setting points to the level definition inside the resource; it does not point to
myawesomedriftmap2021.zip. -
Restart BeamMP-Server
Start the server again after saving the configuration. Client ZIP resources are loaded during startup, so a restart is required after adding, replacing, or removing a map archive. Watch the console and inspect
Server.logfor loading or path errors before inviting other players. -
Connect and verify the download
Join the server from a client that does not already have the map installed, if possible. BeamMP should offer the map to joining players automatically. For a server and game running on the same computer, use BeamMP Direct Connect with host address
127.0.0.1and the port configured for that server. A successful test reaches the selected level without a missing-resource or map-loading error.Recommended Free Tools

How to write the correct Map path
The Map line is an asset path, not a filesystem path. It identifies the level’s info.json within BeamNG’s virtual resource tree. Three details must agree:
- Prefix: use
/levels/. - Folder: use the exact internal level directory discovered inside the ZIP.
- Suffix: use
/info.json, including the slash before the filename.
For example, if the archive contains levels/coastal_route/, the configuration value is /levels/coastal_route/info.json. If the archive is called coastal-route-final.zip, that filename does not change the path unless the internal folder is also named coastal-route-final.

When selecting a stock level, use its established path directly, such as /levels/italy/info.json. Uploading a second copy of a stock map as a mod can create unnecessary conflicts and makes it harder to identify which resource the server is loading.
Inspect the ZIP before changing the server
Archive inspection prevents the most common configuration mistake. A typical usable layout looks like this:

└── info.jsonThe top-level name of the ZIP may be completely different from the level folder. Look under levels, not at the download title. If the archive opens to an extra wrapper directory, inspect the nested contents and determine whether the actual levels directory is still part of the resource structure BeamNG expects. Do not “fix” the archive by extracting it into Resources/Client; BeamMP’s client resource directory is intended for ZIP files.
Copy the folder name exactly rather than retyping it. A missing underscore, an added space, or a case difference can make the configured path refer to a level that does not exist.
Troubleshoot a map that does not load
The server starts, but the selected map never appears
Check the archive’s location first. The ZIP should be directly in the client resource directory selected by ResourceFolder, not in a second directory beneath Client. Confirm that the file still has a .zip extension and was not unpacked. Restart the server after correcting the placement, then read the startup log for a more specific error.
The path looks right, but BeamMP reports a missing level
Reopen the archive and copy the folder below levels again. The download filename, a mod-page title, or a renamed local file is not reliable evidence of the internal level name. Verify that the configured path ends in /info.json and that the folder spelling matches the archive character for character.

You cannot determine the internal path
Install the map in single-player BeamNG.drive first and launch it normally. Open the system console with ~, or with the console binding configured for your game, and run:
print(getMissionFilename())Use the returned path as the value after Map =, retaining the leading /levels/ and the /info.json suffix when they are shown. This method is useful when the archive contains an unfamiliar directory name or when a mod’s documentation uses a display name instead of the actual resource path.
Changes appear to be ignored
A running process will not necessarily rescan client resources. Stop and start BeamMP-Server after every map addition, replacement, or removal. If the old level continues to load after a restart, confirm that you edited the active server’s ServerConfig.toml and copied the ZIP into that server’s resource folder rather than another installation.
Players receive join errors after the map was added
BeamMP warns that mods can be incompatible with BeamNG, BeamMP, or one another. Temporarily remove the new map and any other recently added mods, restart, and test the server with a minimal resource set. Add the map back by itself, then reintroduce other mods one at a time. This isolates a conflicting archive from a bad Map path or a version mismatch.
The map works locally but not for remote players
Use Direct Connect to test the server on the host machine, then test from another client. If the local test succeeds but remote joins fail, compare the server log from both attempts and verify that the remote client is receiving the resource rather than relying on a pre-existing local copy. Keep the archive unchanged while diagnosing so a client-side cache or a modified file is not introduced as another variable.
The map is protected or restricted
BeamMP documents a protectmod command for restricted mods. Protection does not grant players access to the file. Players must obtain the protected resource from its creator or another authorized source and place that file in their launcher resources folder before they can use it. Respect the creator’s licensing and redistribution requirements when deciding whether a map can be hosted for others.

Choosing a map for a shared server
Installation is only one part of a reliable multiplayer setup. Check the following characteristics before committing a map to a public or frequently used server.

Managed hosting and non-default folders
The same file-and-configuration relationship applies when BeamMP is hosted by a managed provider or on a VPS. Locate the server’s actual working directory, identify the resource folder named by ResourceFolder, upload the ZIP to its Client subdirectory, and edit the active ServerConfig.toml. Hosting panels sometimes expose these locations through a file manager rather than a local desktop folder, but the archive must still remain a client ZIP and the server must still be restarted after the change.
If you operate several BeamMP instances, perform the edit in the instance that owns the endpoint players use. A successful restart of a different instance will not change the map on the live server.
What players should expect when they join
Once the archive is loaded and the Map path resolves, BeamMP is designed to provide the map to joining players automatically. The official BeamMP setup guidance describes the expected result this way: “Now, when someone joins your server, it should download the map automatically and work as expected.” Players may still need a compatible BeamNG.drive and BeamMP installation, and restricted content may require a separately authorized file.
For a dependable rollout, test with the exact configuration that will be used publicly, watch the startup log, and have at least one client join without a preinstalled copy of the map. That sequence distinguishes a server resource problem from a client that happened to retain an older version.
