To install the Android 17 QPR beta, enroll an eligible Pixel on Google’s Android Beta for Pixel page, then install the update when it arrives over the air. Google’s program page listed Android 17 QPR2 Beta as available when checked on October 9, 2026. Beta software can disrupt normal device use, and opting out usually wipes locally saved data, so back up important files before you enroll.
Before you enroll: check eligibility and weigh the risks
Sign in to Google’s Android Beta for Pixel page with the Google Account used as the Pixel’s primary account. The page shows eligible devices associated with that account; Google does not publish a fixed model list that guarantees eligibility. Check that your own Pixel appears before proceeding. The device must be running a public stable build, not a Developer Preview.
Google warns that beta updates are pre-release software that may contain errors and defects affecting normal device operation. Decide whether you can tolerate possible disruption, and make a backup before enrolling. Google also warns that opting out and returning to stable Android wipes locally saved data; restoring a backup afterward may have issues.
Enroll the Pixel in the Android 17 QPR beta
- Open Android Beta for Pixel and sign in with the Google Account used as the Pixel’s primary account.
- Find your eligible Pixel and select it.
- Choose the Android 17 QPR beta program if it is offered, then review and accept the Android Beta Program Terms. A device can be enrolled in only one beta program at a time.
Install the update and confirm it is a beta build
Check for the over-the-air update
After enrollment, the Pixel should receive beta updates automatically. Google says delivery may take up to 24 hours. If the update has not appeared after that, connect the device to the internet and open Settings > System > System update to check for it.

Verify the installed build
Open Settings > About phone > Build number. Google’s current program page lists UPB, U1B, AP11, AP21 and AP31 as beta build-number prefixes. Build identifiers can change between releases, so check Google’s current release information if your installed build does not match those prefixes. Restarting the Pixel also displays a message that it is running a beta version.
How often beta updates arrive
Google says enrolled devices may receive up to four beta updates automatically per month. Monthly security updates are included in beta builds rather than delivered separately. The Android 17 QPR2 Beta availability and program details above reflect Google’s page as checked on October 9, 2026; availability and eligibility can change.

Opt out and return to stable Android
Opting out generally means installing a stable public release that wipes user data. Back up important files before you begin, and do not assume that a backup will restore without issues.
- Open Android Beta for Pixel and locate the enrolled device.
- Choose Opt out.
- Google says an update to the latest stable public release may arrive within 24 hours. Install it to leave the beta; the update wipes user data.
Google describes a limited no-wipe exception: after installing the stable release for the version being tested, you may opt out without a wipe until you install the next beta update. The timing depends on the release cycle, so check the program page before relying on this window.
