The Teams integration works differently depending on which Outlook you have. In new Outlook for Windows, Teams scheduling is built in and there is no separate COM add-in to install. In classic Outlook for Windows, the integration is the Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office, installed by the Teams desktop app.
Use the section that matches your Outlook version rather than installing a random Outlook add-in from the web or Microsoft AppSource.
Identify your Outlook version
| Outlook version | How Teams integration works | What to install |
|---|---|---|
| New Outlook for Windows | A native Teams meeting toggle appears in the event window. | New Teams desktop app; no COM add-in. |
| Classic Outlook for Windows | A COM add-in adds New Teams Meeting to the Calendar ribbon. | Teams desktop app and its Teams Meeting Add-in. |
| Outlook for Mac, web, iOS, or Android | Teams integration is built into the supported meeting or event experience. | No Windows COM add-in. |
In classic Outlook, check the title bar or File > Office Account. If Outlook shows a Try the new Outlook switch, you are using classic Outlook. New Outlook has a different interface and does not support the classic COM add-in.

Before installing
Make sure these conditions are met:
- The Teams desktop app is installed on the same Windows computer as Outlook. The Teams website alone cannot install the Outlook add-in.
- Teams and Outlook are signed in with the same Microsoft 365 work or school account.
- Your organization uses Exchange Online or another supported Microsoft 365 business mailbox.
- Neither Outlook nor Teams is being run as administrator. Running one elevated and the other normally can prevent the integration from loading.
- Classic Outlook is Outlook 2016 or later and has current updates.
Personal Outlook.com, Hotmail, MSN, Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, and other POP or IMAP accounts may not support creating Teams meetings through the classic Outlook add-in.

- Close Outlook.
- Quit Teams from the notification area: right-click the Teams icon and select Quit Teams.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Teams Meeting Add-in.
- If it appears, select its three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Start new Teams and sign in.
- Wait for Teams Meeting Add-in to appear again under Installed apps.
- Restart Outlook and check Calendar > New Teams Meeting.
Do not reinstall all of Office as the first step. The add-in is managed by the Teams desktop client, so removing the Teams Meeting Add-in and restarting Teams is the documented repair path.
If the add-in is not listed in Installed apps
Microsoft provides cleanup PowerShell scripts for installations that do not appear normally. Close Outlook, quit Teams, and follow Microsoft’s current Teams add-in troubleshooting article to download the applicable script. Microsoft distinguishes between installations with version numbers beginning with 1.23 and newer versions:
- Use
UninstallOldTMA.ps1if no add-in is listed or the installed version begins with1.23. This script requires an elevated PowerShell window. - Use
UninstallTMA.ps1if the installed version does not begin with1.23. Microsoft’s procedure runs this from a regular PowerShell window.
After the script finishes, start Teams, wait for the add-in to be installed again, and restart Outlook. Use Microsoft’s supplied scripts rather than copying an unverified script from a forum.
