If a retailer shows a disc listing, check the platform carefully. A disc for another console cannot be installed in an Xbox console, and an Xbox disc-install procedure does not apply to this title.

- A Microsoft/Xbox account. The account that purchased the game must be signed in when you install an existing entitlement.
- Internet access for a digital download and for game updates. The console may also need access to Xbox services when you purchase, verify ownership, or use online modes.
- Enough free console storage for the download and installation. The current product listing is the appropriate place to check the live size for your console and region.
- The latest game update if you intend to use World Match or downloadable content.

Install a new digital purchase on Xbox
- Open the Microsoft Store. From the Xbox home screen, open the Store application and search for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
- Verify the listing. Confirm that the product is the Xbox version and that the region shown by the Store is correct. Do not rely only on a retailer’s title text; the console listing should identify the edition that can be installed on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One.
- Buy the digital edition. Select the purchase option and complete Microsoft’s current checkout steps. The purchase is associated with the Microsoft/Xbox account used to complete it.
- Start the installation. After checkout, choose the Store’s install option if it appears. If you leave the Store, the title should also become available through the console’s game library for that account.
- Let the download finish. Keep the console connected while the game downloads and installs. You can monitor progress in the Xbox queue or the current download-management screen.
- Apply the offered update. If Xbox presents an update before launch, allow it to complete. SEGA’s October 8, 2026 notice lists version 1.4.3 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One and says the latest version is required for online modes such as World Match and for DLC.
- Launch the game. Open it from the installed-games list or your home screen. If the title starts an additional content or profile setup, complete the prompts before entering a mode.
Install it when you already own the digital version
- Sign out of any Xbox profile that does not own the game, then sign in with the Microsoft/Xbox account that made the purchase. Ownership follows that account, not the console’s physical location.
- Open the Xbox game library and find Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Use the current library filter or search controls if it is not visible in the default view.

What to do if you expected an Xbox disc
There is no Xbox disc path for this game. SEGA’s format information lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One as digital-only, while physical editions are listed for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch. Consequently:
- You cannot insert an Xbox game disc to install this title.
- A disc listed for PlayStation or Nintendo hardware is not compatible with an Xbox console.
- Buying an Xbox disc drive, an external optical drive, or a replacement disc will not create a supported installation method.
- If you own the game digitally, reinstall it from the account library instead of looking for installation media.
When checking a marketplace listing, inspect the platform field and edition details before paying. If the listing does not clearly identify an Xbox digital product, use the Microsoft Store listing on the console as the authoritative purchase route.

SEGA does not establish one worldwide Xbox price in the product information. Check the live Microsoft Store page for your currency, taxes, discounts, and edition details. Avoid buying a physical copy solely because it appears cheaper: a disc for another platform cannot be used on Xbox.
Update requirements for online modes and DLC
SEGA states: “You must update to the latest version of the game to play online modes like World Match and access DLC.” Its October 8, 2026 update notice lists version 1.4.3 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
After the base installation, allow Xbox to apply the newest update offered for your console. A game that launches in an older state may still let you reach menus or offline content, but the publisher’s requirement means you should not treat an outdated build as sufficient for World Match or downloadable content. If Xbox reports that the game is current while an online mode remains unavailable, use the troubleshooting branches below and check the current in-game or Store notice for a newer release than the version named in the October notice.

Start playing: local and online options
SEGA’s official game information lists local play for 1–4 players and online play for up to 12 players. Those are published game-wide figures; they do not guarantee that every individual mode, console configuration, or platform supports every combination in the same way.
Local play
For local sessions, connect the controllers you intend to use, sign in the requested profiles, and choose the local or split-screen option shown in the game. The published four-player local figure is a maximum, not a requirement: one player can play alone, and the game may ask additional users to select profiles or guest access.
Online play
For online modes, finish the update first, sign in to the Xbox profile you intend to use, and follow the game’s online menu. The published maximum is up to 12 players. Network quality, account restrictions, regional service availability, and the requirements of a particular mode can affect whether a session is available at a given time.
Offline play
SEGA describes both offline and online modes. The initial purchase and download still require the Store and an internet connection, and the latest build is required for the online and DLC features named above. Once installation is complete, choose the offline options shown in the game if you want to play without joining an online session. Do not assume that an offline launch bypasses account, update, or platform checks on every console.
First-launch checks that prevent common mistakes
- Confirm the game tile is the Xbox listing, not a similarly named item for PlayStation or Nintendo hardware.
- Check which Xbox profile is active before starting the game, especially on a shared console.
- Let the update finish before testing World Match or DLC; closing the update prompt can leave the base game installed but the required feature unavailable.
- For local play, connect the intended controllers before selecting the mode and follow the profile prompts shown on screen.
- For online play, verify that the console itself reports an internet connection and that the signed-in profile can use Xbox online services.
- If a menu or label differs from an older guide, follow the current Store, library, and in-game wording rather than looking for an exact historical button name.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The Store shows a disc or the wrong platform
Return to the Xbox console’s Microsoft Store search and open the product page from there. Confirm that the platform is Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One and that the purchase control is digital. A physical listing for another console is not an alternative Xbox installation method.

The game is missing from the library
- Verify that the signed-in profile is the account that completed the purchase.
- Check the library’s owned-games or all-games view rather than a recently installed filter.
- Search the Store while signed in to that same account and open the product page.
- Review the account’s order or purchase history if the transaction itself is uncertain.
- Do not buy the game again until ownership is confirmed.
Microsoft’s general guidance supports reinstalling a digital Xbox purchase, but the exact library labels can change. Follow the labels currently displayed on your console.

The install button is unavailable
First check the account and platform edition. An account that has not purchased the title may see a purchase control instead of an install control. A listing for a different console can also lack an Xbox install option. If the account and edition are correct, close and reopen the Store, sign in again, and check the library after the purchase status refreshes.
The download is paused or will not start
- Open the console’s current download queue and resume the title if it is paused.
- Check that the console is connected to the internet and that other downloads are not occupying the queue.
- Confirm that sufficient free storage is available; Xbox will not complete an installation that cannot fit.
- Restart the console and retry from the library or Store page.
- If the Store displays an outage, payment, or account message, resolve that message before repeating the purchase attempt.
The game installs but online play is unavailable
- Check for a pending game update and install it.
- Confirm that the game reports the current version in its update or title information. SEGA’s October 8, 2026 notice lists 1.4.3 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
- Verify that the console is online and that your Xbox profile can use online services.
- Restart the game after the update; an already-open session may still be running the previous build.
- If World Match remains unavailable, check the current SEGA notice and the Xbox service status for a newer update or service interruption.
DLC is not accessible
Install the latest game version first. SEGA explicitly connects current-version status with DLC access. Then confirm that the DLC was purchased for the same account and Xbox platform family shown by the Store. If the content is owned but not visible, reopen the game after the update and use the game’s content-management or add-on screen if one is provided.
The game launches under the wrong profile
Close the game, sign in with the intended Xbox profile, and relaunch it. Digital ownership and saved progress can depend on the profile selected at sign-in. If another household member purchased the game, use the console’s current account-sharing and home-console settings rather than assuming every profile owns the purchase independently.
Reinstalling after deletion or on another Xbox
Deleting the local installation does not normally require buying the digital game again. On the replacement or second Xbox, sign in with the account that owns the purchase, open the library, and select the game’s install command. The download may be large and will need to complete again on that console.

If the title does not appear, repeat the ownership checks: use the purchasing account, search the Store directly, and verify that you are viewing the Xbox edition. Current dashboard names and library filters may differ from older instructions.

Do not assume that an Xbox purchase automatically grants a Windows PC copy. Microsoft says Xbox Play Anywhere applies only to participating games carrying the Play Anywhere indicator or appearing on Microsoft’s eligibility list.
