DLSS 5 is enabled inside a game that has a genuine DLSS 5 integration; it is not a universal switch in the NVIDIA app. For the documented launch example, install NBA 2K27, use a GeForce RTX 50 Series PC or laptop, install GeForce Game Ready Driver 616.64 WHQL or newer, then open Video Settings and turn on DLSS Neural Rendering. NVIDIA also requires Streamline 2.14 or newer for the feature update. GeForce NOW Ultimate members in NVIDIA-operated regions can use a separate cloud route with an RTX 5080-powered rig.

What you need before enabling DLSS 5

DLSS 5 support comes from a game-specific integration. Having an older DLSS option, an RTX graphics card, or the latest NVIDIA app does not automatically add DLSS 5 to every title. Confirm that the game’s current release notes or an NVIDIA announcement identifies a DLSS 5 integration before looking for the setting.

The documented launch configuration

  • Game: NBA 2K27, identified by NVIDIA as available at launch.
  • Local GPU: A GeForce RTX 50 Series desktop PC or laptop.
  • Driver: GeForce Game Ready Driver 616.64 WHQL or newer. This is the documented launch minimum, not a claim that it remains the newest driver.
  • Streamline: Version 2.14 or newer. NVIDIA says Streamline is downloaded automatically after a reboot following the feature update.
  • In-game control: Video Settings → DLSS Neural Rendering.

Local play versus cloud play

Option What you provide Where DLSS 5 runs Availability limitation
Local PC or laptop NBA 2K27, an RTX 50 Series system, and the required driver and Streamline versions On your local GeForce RTX 50 Series GPU The game must contain the DLSS 5 integration
GeForce NOW Ultimate An Ultimate membership, a supported device, a compatible connection, and access to the game through the service On an RTX 5080-powered cloud rig NVIDIA documents this route for Ultimate members in NVIDIA-operated regions

The local driver and GPU requirements do not apply to the rendering hardware inside the cloud rig. Conversely, a cloud membership does not add DLSS 5 to an unrelated game that has no integration.

How to install and enable DLSS 5 locally

The following procedure follows NVIDIA’s documented NBA 2K27 launch setup. Menu names can change in later game updates, but the important control is named DLSS Neural Rendering.

1. Confirm that the specific game is supported

  1. Check the game’s current official patch notes or graphics-settings documentation.
  2. Look for an explicit reference to DLSS 5 or DLSS Neural Rendering, rather than a general reference to DLSS, DLSS Super Resolution, or Frame Generation.
  3. For the launch procedure documented by NVIDIA, install NBA 2K27. Do not assume that another title from an announcement list has already received its update.

NVIDIA’s March 16, 2026 announcement named many games planned for DLSS 5 integration, while its launch coverage identified NBA 2K27 as available. An announced integration is a roadmap statement, not proof that the feature is enabled in the current build of every named game.

2. Verify the local GPU

For the documented local NBA 2K27 implementation, NVIDIA specifies GeForce RTX 50 Series PCs and laptops. Check the GPU model in Windows Settings, the NVIDIA app, or Device Manager before troubleshooting the game menu. If the machine has an RTX 40 Series card, an older RTX model, or a non-RTX GPU, the launch documentation does not establish local support.

3. Install the required Game Ready Driver

  1. Open the NVIDIA app, or use NVIDIA’s official driver-download page.
  2. Install GeForce Game Ready Driver 616.64 WHQL or newer.
  3. Restart the computer when the installer requests it. A reboot is important because NVIDIA says Streamline is automatically downloaded to the system following a reboot for this feature update.

Driver 616.64 is the documented minimum for the launch feature. Do not describe it as the current newest driver; later releases may supersede it. If a newer WHQL Game Ready Driver is available, use that unless the game’s own support notes specify another version.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Install or update the game

Install NBA 2K27 through your normal PC game store and allow its updates to finish. A current driver cannot expose DLSS Neural Rendering if the game files are from an older build. If the store has a “verify” or “repair” function, use it when an update was interrupted or files are missing.

5. Turn on DLSS Neural Rendering

  1. Launch NBA 2K27.
  2. Open the game’s Video Settings menu.
  3. Find DLSS Neural Rendering.
  4. Switch the setting on, then apply or save the graphics changes if the game presents an Apply button.

NVIDIA says the option can also be toggled during gameplay and replays with F9 on a keyboard. That shortcut changes the feature state; it does not replace the need for a supported game, GPU, and software stack.

  • Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
  • Powered by GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
  • Integrated with 16GB GDDR7 256bit memory interface
  • PCIe 5.0
  • WINDFORCE cooling system

6. Configure the other graphics features separately

DLSS Neural Rendering is not the same control as DLSS Super Resolution, Frame Generation, or NVIDIA Reflex. Configure those options independently according to the frame-rate target and latency behavior you want. Turning on one of these older or separate DLSS features does not prove that DLSS 5 is active; look specifically for the Neural Rendering option and its enabled state.

7. Confirm that the change took effect

  • Return to Video Settings and verify that DLSS Neural Rendering remains enabled.
  • Load a game scene or replay with detailed characters, hair, clothing, and lighting so the neural-rendered effects are visible.
  • If the setting disappears after restarting, repeat the driver update and reboot, then verify that the game is fully patched.

Using DLSS 5 through GeForce NOW

Cloud play is a different installation path. NVIDIA says GeForce NOW Ultimate members in NVIDIA-operated regions can stream NBA 2K27 from an RTX 5080-powered cloud rig. Your local computer does not need an RTX 50 Series GPU because the game is rendered remotely.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Confirm that GeForce NOW Ultimate is offered in your region and that your account is eligible.
  2. Install or open the GeForce NOW client on a supported device, or use a supported browser experience.
  3. Sign in and connect the store account that owns NBA 2K27, if the service requests it.
  4. Start the game from your GeForce NOW library.
  5. Open the in-game Video Settings menu and enable DLSS Neural Rendering, if it is not already enabled in the streamed session.

Cloud availability depends on NVIDIA’s operating regions, membership status, device support, and the game’s listing in the service. A local driver installation is not required for the RTX 5080 cloud rig, but your network still determines stream quality, input delay, and whether the session remains stable.

What DLSS 5 does

NVIDIA describes DLSS 5 as a real-time neural-rendering model. According to the company’s March 16, 2026 announcement, it takes each frame’s color data and motion vectors, then uses an AI model to add lighting and material effects anchored to the game’s source 3D content and kept consistent from frame to frame.

NVIDIA says the model analyzes scene semantics, including characters, hair, and fabric. Developers can direct the effect with intensity, color-grading, and masking controls. These are NVIDIA’s descriptions of the technology; they are not independent image-quality tests.

Titles announced for future integration

NVIDIA’s March announcement listed the following titles as expected to receive DLSS 5 integration: AION 2, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Black State, CINDER CITY, Delta Force, Hogwarts Legacy, Justice, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, NTE: Neverness to Everness, Phantom Blade Zero, Resident Evil Requiem, Sea of Remnants, Starfield, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and Where Winds Meet, among others.

This list establishes intended support, not a current universal availability date. NVIDIA also identified Bethesda, CAPCOM, Hotta Studio, NetEase, NCSOFT, S-GAME, Tencent, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros. Games as developer partners. Before installing any title other than NBA 2K27, check its latest patch notes and graphics menu for a confirmed release.

Performance figures and how to interpret them

NVIDIA publishes performance figures for specific hardware, resolution, settings, and games. They should not be treated as a general DLSS 5 benchmark or a promise for every system.

Scenario reported by NVIDIA Reported result Qualification
NBA 2K27, 4K, Ultra settings, ray tracing, GeForce RTX 5090, full DLSS technology suite Up to 370 frames per second Vendor-reported scenario; not an independent test and not a DLSS 5-only result
NBA 2K27, 1440p, Ultra settings and ray tracing, GeForce RTX 5090 Up to 590 frames per second NVIDIA-published figure for the stated configuration
Same 1440p configuration, GeForce RTX 5080 Up to 410 frames per second NVIDIA-published figure for the stated configuration

Troubleshooting a missing or disabled setting

DLSS Neural Rendering is not listed

  • Confirm that the game has a released DLSS 5 integration, rather than only an announcement.
  • Check that the game is fully updated.
  • Verify the local system is a GeForce RTX 50 Series PC or laptop for the documented NBA 2K27 case.
  • Install Game Ready Driver 616.64 WHQL or newer, reboot, and allow Streamline to download.
  • Reopen the game after the reboot and check Video Settings again.

The option is present but cannot be enabled

Check whether the game has finished compiling shaders or applying a graphics update. Apply the settings, restart the game, and ensure another graphics preset has not overwritten the change. If the title is running through a cloud service, confirm that you started the supported game listing rather than a local shortcut or an older installation.

The game crashes after the driver update

  1. Restart Windows once more so pending driver and Streamline components finish loading.
  2. Verify or repair the game files through its store client.
  3. Temporarily return to the previous graphics preset and test the game without changing unrelated options.
  4. Check the game publisher’s current support notes for a known issue with the specific driver or patch.

Visual results or frame rates differ from NVIDIA’s figures

Compare your test with the published conditions before drawing a conclusion. NVIDIA’s figures use particular RTX 50 Series models, resolutions, Ultra settings, ray tracing, and the full DLSS suite. A different GPU, CPU, display mode, game patch, or feature combination is not an equivalent test.

What about RTX 40 Series cards?

NVIDIA’s indexed FAQ result says the company plans to expand official DLSS 5 support to GeForce RTX 40 Series hardware after additional performance tuning. That is a future roadmap statement, not confirmation of current support. The documented launch instructions therefore should not be presented as an RTX 40 Series installation method.

Do not treat unofficial modifications as equivalent to a vendor-supported integration. A mod may alter files or rendering behavior, but it does not establish that the game developer and NVIDIA support the resulting configuration.

Choosing between local and cloud play

Decision factor Local RTX 50 Series PC or laptop GeForce NOW Ultimate
Hardware ownership You supply and maintain the supported RTX 50 Series system. NVIDIA supplies the RTX 5080-powered cloud rig.
Installation responsibility You install the game, Game Ready Driver, and required Streamline update. You install or access the GeForce NOW client and stream the supported game.
Game support The local game build must contain DLSS 5 integration. The game must be available through the service with the integration enabled.
Regional constraint No GeForce NOW region requirement is involved. NVIDIA documents the feature for Ultimate members in NVIDIA-operated regions.
Primary variable Your GPU, CPU, cooling, and driver state affect results. Membership, server availability, network quality, and stream latency affect the experience.

Choose local rendering when you already own the supported hardware and want direct control over drivers and image settings. Choose the cloud route when your local system lacks an RTX 50 Series GPU and the service is available to you.

Keeping DLSS 5 support current

  • Treat NVIDIA’s launch-era driver number as a minimum requirement, not a permanent “latest” label.
  • Recheck the game’s patch notes after major updates; an announced title can receive support later than its announcement date.
  • Use the exact in-game label, DLSS Neural Rendering, when verifying that DLSS 5 is available.
  • Keep separate the three questions: whether the title has an integration, whether your local hardware is supported, and whether a cloud service offers the title in your region.

For the currently documented installation, the reliable path is straightforward: update the supported RTX 50 Series system and game, reboot so Streamline can install, then enable Video Settings → DLSS Neural Rendering in NBA 2K27. Other games require their own confirmed release before the same instructions can be applied.
