The most complete four-season setup covered here is The Living Continent – Seasons – Sky – Weather. It changes vegetation, weather, daylight and sky effects across regions, but it has strict prerequisites: the next-gen PC game at version 5.0 or newer, DirectX 12, and ReShade 6.8 or newer with full add-on support. Install both the archive’s bin and Mods folders, then configure it at Options > Mods > The Living Continent. DirectX 11 is not supported.
Two narrower choices work differently. The Conjunction of the Seasons Climate and Nature Overhaul uses season icons while the game is closed, while Skellige Winter Weather System concentrates on winter weather in Skellige and requires specific Script Merger priority and CSV handling. The right installation depends on the game build, renderer, geographic coverage and the other vegetation or weather mods in your loadout.
Choose a seasonal mod before downloading anything
Seasonal mods are not interchangeable packages. They alter different layers of The Witcher 3: some replace trees and grass, some control weather scripts, and some add a complete options page. Start by deciding what you want to change and whether your installation meets the mod’s technical requirements.

If you want one broad makeover and can use DX12, begin with The Living Continent. Choose The Conjunction when you prefer a separate season selector and are prepared to manage vegetation conflicts. Choose the Skellige project when your goal is specifically winter conditions in that region rather than four-season coverage everywhere.

Check the game build, renderer and dependencies
Confirm the supported game version
The Living Continent author specifies the next-gen release at version 5.0 or newer. Verify the build shown by your game installation before you copy any files. A classic or older build can have different scripts and executable paths even when the game is installed in the same library. If your version does not meet the requirement, do not assume that a successful file copy means the mod is compatible.
Use the DX12 executable
The mod is designed for DirectX 12 and explicitly does not support DX11. Its ReShade installation target is binx64_dx12witcher3.exe. If you normally launch the DX11 executable, switch to the DX12 version before diagnosing missing effects or an absent options page. Running the wrong renderer is a compatibility problem, not a graphics-quality setting that can be corrected inside the mod menu.
Install the required ReShade build
Install ReShade 6.8 or newer with full add-on support for the DX12 executable. The Living Continent page says that no ReShade effects or preset are needed; ReShade is required for its add-on support, not because you must apply a visual preset. During installation, select the Witcher 3 DX12 executable at the path above and choose the full add-on-support build when the installer presents that choice.

If full add-on support is absent, the mod can fail to initialize even though ReShade itself appears in the game.
Prepare a recoverable installation
- Close the game and its launcher before copying files.
- Keep a backup of your saves and note which mods currently edit weather, trees, grass, billboards or cloud layers.
- Install one seasonal system at a time. This gives you a clear test point before you add another mod that may change the same scripts or assets.
- Read the current files, requirements and compatibility notes on the selected mod’s page immediately before installing. Mod packages and requirements can change.
Install The Living Continent step by step
1. Download the current archive
Use the current archive and installation notes published on The Living Continent’s mod page. Do not extract only the visible Mods directory: this project also ships game-folder files under bin, and those files are part of the installation.
2. Find the game installation directory
Open the folder that contains the Witcher 3 executable and the existing bin and Mods directories. You will merge the archive’s folders into this directory, not into a save-game folder, a launcher cache or a separate mod-download folder.
3. Merge both top-level folders
- Extract the mod archive to a temporary location.
- Copy the archive’s
binfolder into the game’s installation directory. - Copy the archive’s
Modsfolder into the same directory. - When Windows asks whether to merge folders, allow the merge and preserve the files already belonging to the game or other installed mods unless the mod’s current instructions say otherwise.
The result must include the mod’s DX12 files beneath the game’s binx64_dx12 location and its mod files beneath the game’s Mods location. A Mods-only installation is incomplete.

4. Account for your mod manager
The author reports that Vortex and Mod Organizer 2 install the complete archive. The Witcher 3 Mod Manager, however, copies only the Mods folder. If you use that manager, manually copy the four required files in binx64_dx12 and the options-page file exactly as the mod page instructs. Without those manual files, the seasonal code or its in-game settings page may be missing even though the manager reports the mod as installed.
After a manual copy, make sure your manager knows about the installation. A manager can display a clean load order while silently ignoring files that were extracted outside its control.
5. Launch and open the options page
Start the DX12 game, load a save or begin a controlled test session, and open Options > Mods > The Living Continent. The options page is where you set regional seasonal strength, seasonal daylight and related switches. The mod also provides a quick panel, bound to Numpad 0 by default, for changing date, season, time, weather and related toggles. The page says the quick-panel key can be changed in the options.
Configure seasons, daylight and regional strength
Set each region independently
The Living Continent exposes per-region seasonal strength choices: off, mild, normal and strong. This lets you keep a subtle change in one area while applying a more pronounced seasonal treatment elsewhere. Set a region to off when another regional overhaul already controls its trees or grass; otherwise two systems may compete for the same assets.

Use the seasonal-daylight setting to let daylight length and seasonal lighting follow the selected season. Treat it separately from weather intensity: changing rain or snow does not necessarily change daylight behavior. Make one change at a time and observe a full transition in a save before adjusting several regions together.
Use the quick panel for testing
The quick panel is useful when you need to test a season without waiting for the normal passage of in-game days. Open it with Numpad 0 unless you changed the binding, then adjust the date, season, time or weather. If your keyboard has no numeric keypad, rebind the key in the mod’s options before relying on the panel.

- Turning off the game’s cloud layer, or installing another cloud mod, can affect lunar eclipses.
- With HDR enabled, the game keeps its own night picture rather than applying the mod’s darker-night effect.
Test those settings before removing the mod. A missing eclipse or a night scene that is brighter than expected can be the result of an intentional interaction with clouds or HDR.
If the options page is missing
The author says the mod can still run with defaults when its options-page file is missing. First check that the options page was copied, especially if you installed through The Witcher 3 Mod Manager. Then count the pages exposed by your other mods: the game can open about 230 options across all mod pages combined. If the global limit is reached, another mod’s page may fail to open even though its files are present. Temporarily disable an options-heavy mod or reduce the number of active options pages to determine whether the limit is responsible.
Install The Conjunction of the Seasons
The Conjunction of the Seasons Climate and Nature Overhaul is a different workflow. It is described as semi-dynamic and begins in autumn. Instead of an in-game options page, the author supplies icons that select the desired season while the game is closed.
Installation and season switching
- Download the current archive and follow its included folder instructions.
- Place its files in the Witcher 3 installation using your normal mod manager or the method specified by the author.
- Exit the game completely before changing seasons.
- Use the supplied season icon for the season you want, then launch the game.
Do not click a season icon while the game is running. The separate selector is part of this mod’s design, so it should not be treated like The Living Continent’s Numpad 0 panel.
Resolve vegetation overlap
The author warns about conflicts with other mods that edit the same trees, grasses or billboards and recommends giving this mod priority when it is used alongside those changes. Decide which mod should supply each asset category; allowing two packages to overwrite one another without a deliberate priority can produce missing foliage, mixed seasons or an otherwise normal game with only some areas changed.

The page content also described some regional winter work as still in progress at the time of that information. Check the current project notes for the region you care about rather than assuming that every map has identical winter coverage.
Install Skellige Winter Weather System
Skellige Winter Weather System is a regional weather project, not a replacement for a four-season continental makeover. Its focus is varied snowfall and snow accumulation on Skellige’s trees and grass.

Follow its Script Merger rules exactly
- Install the mod files using the archive’s current instructions.
- Run Witcher 3 Script Merger when your loadout requires a script merge.
- Give Skellige Winter Weather System the highest priority in Script Merger, as its author instructs.
- Do not merge its CSV file.
- Disable or remove other Skellige weather codes that overlap its weather system.
Its page says it can be combined with lighting mods, but overlapping weather CSVs can prevent the system from working. A lighting mod that changes color or exposure is a different category from a second weather-code package; still, check both projects’ current compatibility notes before combining them.
Trigger the patterns in an existing save
If you install it mid-game, load the save and meditate through the menu for around half a day. That passage of game time is the author’s trigger instruction for its weather patterns. If you only load, walk a few steps and quit, you may not have allowed the system to initialize.

Manage load order, scripts and manual installs
Run Script Merger when scripts overlap
Seasonal systems often touch the same scripts as quest, weather or overhaul mods. If the selected project calls for Script Merger, run it after installing the seasonal files and inspect its reported conflicts. Do not blindly accept every merge: use the seasonal mod’s priority instructions, especially the explicit highest-priority rule for Skellige Winter Weather System.
Check that your manager recognizes every mod
The Vortex guide notes that a mod extracted manually may be absent from the manager’s load order. Adding files to the game directory is not the same as registering a package in the manager. If the mod does not appear:
- Use the manager’s refresh or deployment function.
- Confirm that the package is enabled.
- Reinstall it through the manager, or add it to the manager’s
mod.settingsconfiguration as appropriate for your setup. - Check that the manager is pointed at the same game installation directory where you copied the files.
When a manager reports a deployment or script problem, fix that state before changing graphics settings. A disabled or unrecognized package cannot be repaired by adjusting season strength.

The game launches, but no seasonal changes appear
- Confirm that you launched the DX12 executable, not DX11.
- Verify the game is version 5.0 or newer for The Living Continent.
- Check that ReShade 6.8+ with full add-on support is installed for
binx64_dx12witcher3.exe. - Confirm that both
binandModswere merged into the game directory. - Review the manager’s enabled state and deployment output.
- For The Conjunction, make sure you selected an icon while the game was closed.
- For Skellige Winter Weather System, verify its Script Merger priority and that its CSV was not merged.
The options page does not exist
First check the options-page file and the four DX12 files required by The Living Continent’s Mod Manager instructions. If the mod still operates with default behavior, the page file is likely the missing part. If several mod pages are missing, consider the game’s approximately 230-option total limit rather than assuming every package is damaged.

For The Living Continent, inspect that region’s seasonal-strength setting; it may be off or milder than expected. For The Conjunction, look for another tree, grass or billboard mod taking priority. For Skellige Winter Weather System, look for another weather code affecting Skellige. Regional differences are often configuration or overlap, not proof that the whole installation failed.

Weather disappears after adding another mod
Compare the two packages’ weather scripts and CSV instructions. Skellige Winter Weather System specifically warns that overlapping weather CSVs can stop it from working. Remove the second weather package temporarily, redeploy, and test again. Add mods back one at a time so you can identify the conflicting file category.
Night lighting or eclipses look wrong
For The Living Continent, check whether you disabled the game’s cloud layer, installed another cloud mod or enabled HDR. Those settings affect lunar eclipses and the darker-night effect according to the mod’s notes. Restore the game’s cloud layer and test without HDR only as a diagnostic; then decide which visual behavior you prefer.
A manual installation is invisible to Vortex or another manager
Refresh and deploy the manager, then verify that the package is enabled. If it was extracted manually, reinstall it through the manager or register it in the manager’s settings. Keep the physical files and the manager’s record synchronized; otherwise you may troubleshoot a load order that does not include the files you think are active.
Use a controlled test sequence
A short, repeatable test avoids confusing a renderer problem with a load-order problem. Start with no newly added weather or vegetation overhaul beyond the one you are evaluating.
- Confirm the game build and DX12 launch target.
- Confirm ReShade’s full add-on support for the exact executable.
- Install the selected archive completely.
- Run the required manager deployment or Script Merger step.
- Launch a test save in a region covered by the mod.
- Open the relevant options page, quick panel or closed-game season selector.
- Change one variable, such as regional strength or season, and observe the result.
- Only after the base test works, add another lighting, cloud, vegetation or weather mod and repeat the check.
Record which renderer, manager and season selector you used. That simple note prevents a later test from accidentally launching DX11 or changing a Conjunction season while the game is still open.

Keep the installation maintainable
Seasonal mods combine large visual changes with low-level game files, so maintenance matters as much as the first copy operation. Recheck the selected mod’s version notes after a Witcher 3 update. Preserve a list of the files or packages that control clouds, weather, trees, grass and billboards. When updating, remove or replace only the package the author tells you to update rather than deleting shared game folders wholesale.
If you change managers, reinstall the seasonal package through the new manager or verify every manually copied file. A package that worked when manually extracted may not be represented in the new manager’s load order. Likewise, a manager installation that copies only Mods is not sufficient for The Living Continent unless its required DX12 files and options page are copied separately.

The practical rule is simple: match the mod to the exact game build and renderer, install every part of its archive, follow its own selector or load-order method, and add overlapping weather or vegetation systems only after the first one works on its own.
