There is no officially documented product named “Coywolf Pack EmDash SEO Plugin.” The name combines two separate ecosystems: Coywolf SEO, a WordPress plugin installed from a ZIP file or plugin directory, and EmDash SEO tools installed either as an npm package in an EmDash project or through the EmDash plugin marketplace. Choose the platform first; the installation steps, configuration model, permissions and troubleshooting are different.

This guide covers Coywolf SEO for WordPress, EmDash SEO Core for developers using an EmDash site, and the separate SEO Suite marketplace plugin. It also explains the checks that resolve missing title tags, descriptions and Article schema.

Identify the plugin and platform before installing

Use the following distinction to avoid applying a WordPress procedure to an EmDash project or vice versa.

Product or package Host platform Installation method Important ownership detail
Coywolf SEO WordPress Upload a ZIP in Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, or copy the directory to wp-content/plugins/coywolf-seo, then activate it. Outputs front-end SEO markup through WordPress’s wp_head() hook.
EmDash SEO Core EmDash project using Astro Run pnpm add @masonjames/emdash-seo-core, confirm the required EmDash version, and register the integration in astro.config.mjs. Provides normalized SEO data and head rendering, but SEO Core v1 does not generate the HTML <title> tag.
SEO Suite for EmDash EmDash plugin marketplace Install from the admin Registry after reviewing permissions and the consent dialog. Runs as a marketplace plugin and requires a configured sandbox runner.

If a download, package name or admin listing does not match one of these descriptions, stop and verify the product identity rather than installing an unrelated ZIP or package.

Install Coywolf SEO on WordPress

Prepare the installation

  • Obtain the Coywolf SEO ZIP file or the plugin project directory from its official distribution.
  • Use an administrator account that can install and activate WordPress plugins.
  • Take a backup of the site and note the currently active SEO, sitemap and redirect tools. This gives you a rollback point if another plugin is already emitting the same metadata.

Install from the WordPress dashboard

  1. Sign in to WordPress and open Plugins → Add New.
  2. Select Upload Plugin, choose the Coywolf ZIP file and select Install Now.
  3. When WordPress reports a successful installation, select Activate Plugin.
  4. Open the plugin’s settings and complete the identity and output checks described below.

Install by copying the plugin directory

For a manual deployment, copy the unzipped directory named coywolf-seo into the site’s wp-content/plugins/ directory. Return to Plugins in the WordPress dashboard and select Activate beside Coywolf SEO. The directory name matters: an extra nested folder can prevent WordPress from detecting the plugin.

Verify that front-end output can render

Coywolf places its front-end output at the WordPress wp_head() hook. The active theme must call that function in its document head. View a page’s source after activation and look for the generated title-related metadata, description, canonical information and structured-data output. If nothing appears, inspect the theme before changing plugin settings.

Purge page-cache, hosting-cache and CDN-cache layers after activation. Otherwise, visitors and source-view checks can continue to receive HTML generated before Coywolf was enabled.

Configure Coywolf’s site-wide identity and schema

Complete Site Details

Open Coywolf’s Site Details area and enter the information that applies across the site:

  • Site name and tagline.
  • Whether the site represents an Organization or a Person.
  • The default Open Graph image used when a page does not provide its own social image.
  • Default schema choices for posts and pages.

If the site represents a person, configure the author with Schema.org Person properties. Keep the identity consistent with the visible author and About information; changing the type from Person to Organization changes how the publisher entity is represented in structured data.

Set page defaults deliberately

Pages do not use Article schema by default. In Site Details → Pages, choose an appropriate page default when your page templates genuinely represent articles, or override the schema type in the individual page’s SEO panel. Do not add Article schema to contact, checkout, policy or other non-article pages merely to obtain a rich-result appearance.

Set titles, descriptions and robots behavior

Review the Settings screen

Use Coywolf’s Settings area to decide:

  • Which users or roles have access to SEO controls.
  • Whether Coywolf should force-rewrite document titles.
  • How meta descriptions are generated or omitted.
  • Which robots-indexing defaults apply to content.

A post’s meta description normally comes from its manually written excerpt. Write an excerpt that accurately summarizes the page instead of relying on an automatically cut sentence. Enable AI meta descriptions only when you specifically want that behavior and have accepted its data flow. If descriptions should be supplied by another system, use Coywolf’s exclusion setting rather than allowing two systems to compete.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use per-content overrides only when needed

The SEO panel on a post or page can override the site defaults for:

  • Schema type.
  • noindex and nofollow directives.
  • The canonical URL.

Use a canonical override when the page intentionally represents a duplicate or republished URL. Check that the canonical target is accessible and is the preferred version; a typo can consolidate search signals onto the wrong page.

Manage redirects, links and robots.txt

Create and test redirects

Open Redirects to add and test redirect rules. Coywolf supports 301, 302, 307, 308 and 410 responses.

  • Use 301 or 308 for a permanent replacement when preserving the original URL’s destination is intended.
  • Use 302 or 307 for a temporary move when the original URL may return.
  • Use 410 when content has been intentionally removed and has no replacement.

Test both the old URL and the final destination after saving a rule. Remove obsolete rules that create chains, loops or competing destinations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Audit links with Link Manager

Link Manager inventories internal and external links. Review the linked URLs and correct broken, outdated or unintended destinations. Because link inspection can request linked URLs, treat the feature as a network operation and enable it only for sites where that behavior is acceptable.

Build and test robots.txt rules

Use Robots.txt Manager to create and test crawler rules. Check that a disallow rule does not block CSS, JavaScript, images or an important page that should be indexed. Robots.txt controls crawling; it is not a substitute for a page-level noindex directive when a URL can still be discovered and must be excluded from search results.

Move settings between environments

Coywolf can import and export settings, author properties, redirect rules and robots rules as JSON. API keys are not exported. Treat an export as configuration data: review it before importing into production and enter secrets again in the destination environment.

Handle an existing SEO plugin during migration

Coywolf states that it can suppress front-end output and edit-screen boxes from Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress and The SEO Framework through those plugins’ switches, while leaving their sitemaps and redirects running. A migration should still be controlled rather than assumed to be automatic.

  1. Record which plugin currently owns titles, descriptions, schema, canonical tags, sitemaps and redirects.
  2. Enable Coywolf’s suppression options for the old plugin’s front-end and editing output.
  3. Decide deliberately which system will continue to own sitemaps and redirects.
  4. Inspect page source, the XML sitemap and representative old URLs for duplicate metadata, duplicate sitemap entries or redirect conflicts.
  5. Keep the old configuration available until the new output has been verified on the production domain.

Install EmDash SEO Core in an EmDash project

Check the package requirement

EmDash SEO Core is not a WordPress ZIP plugin. In the EmDash development environment, install it with:

pnpm add @masonjames/emdash-seo-core

The host must use emdash version range ^0.1.0. Resolve that dependency requirement before debugging the integration; a mismatched host package can prevent the plugin from loading or produce incomplete output.

Register it in Astro

Register the installed package through the EmDash integration in astro.config.mjs. Use the configuration shape required by the installed EmDash release, and restart the development server after changing the integration list. A configuration install must use the correct plugin registration collection, such as the project’s plugins: [] or sandboxed: [] registration where applicable; placing a package in the wrong collection leaves it uninitialized.

Provide page context and render the head component

The theme must create a page context and render EmDashHead inside the document’s HTML <head>. Installing the package alone does not place tags on the page. Verify that the context is created for every route, including the homepage and content templates, and that the component is not rendered in the body.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

SEO Core v1 does not own the HTML <title> tag. Title generation therefore remains in the theme or core layer. If descriptions, Open Graph data or JSON-LD appear but the browser title is wrong or absent, inspect the theme’s title logic rather than expecting SEO Core to replace it.

Normalize the SEO settings

Configure the normalized settings object with these values:

  • Homepage description.
  • Default robots policy: index,follow, noindex,follow or noindex,nofollow.
  • Fallback Open Graph image.
  • Publisher type: person or organization.
  • Publisher name.
  • Publisher logo URL.
  • sameAs URLs for the publisher’s verified profiles.

Page-specific values take precedence. SEO Core fills supported gaps, and EmDash deduplicates the final metadata. Supply page-level values where a story, product or landing page needs a different description, image, robots policy or publisher context; retain site defaults for pages that do not need an override.

Install the EmDash marketplace SEO Suite

Use Registry installation

  1. In the EmDash admin, open Registry.
  2. Search for the SEO plugin and open its listing.
  3. Inspect the displayed version, publisher, metadata, requested permissions and verification status.
  4. Select Install.
  5. Read the consent dialog and confirm only after the permissions match the plugin’s intended functions.

Marketplace plugins require a configured sandbox runner. If the install is present but will not load, configure the runner first and then retry the plugin initialization.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Review the SEO Suite permissions

The SEO Suite listing requests permissions covering content, structure, unsaved edits, suggestions, publishing controls, taxonomies, redirects and media. Those permissions can affect both what the plugin can read and what it can change. Review them with the site’s editorial and security owner before granting consent, especially on a multi-author or production installation.

The listing identifies SEO Suite as version 0.2.0 and shows an update date of September 29, 2026. Marketplace metadata can change, so inspect the current Registry entry at installation time rather than relying on an older screenshot or copied version number.

Troubleshoot missing SEO output

No Coywolf tags appear in page source

  1. Confirm Coywolf is active under Plugins.
  2. Check that the active theme calls wp_head() in its head section.
  3. Purge page, host and CDN caches.
  4. Temporarily inspect a direct uncached response and compare it with the cached page.
  5. Check whether another SEO plugin or a theme is suppressing or replacing the output.

A page has no Article schema

Pages default to no Article type. Set the page default at Site Details → Pages if the site’s page template is genuinely article-based, or choose the schema type in that page’s SEO panel. Validate the resulting JSON-LD on the rendered page after clearing caches.

A meta description is missing

  • Check whether the post has a manual excerpt; that is Coywolf’s normal description source.
  • Review whether AI meta descriptions are enabled or disabled as intended.
  • Check the exclusion setting, which can intentionally suppress descriptions.
  • Inspect the final HTML rather than only the editor preview.

An EmDash plugin will not load

  • Verify that the required sandbox runner is configured for marketplace plugins.
  • For a configuration install, verify that the package is registered in the correct plugins: [] or sandboxed: [] collection.
  • Confirm the host uses emdash ^0.1.0 when using EmDash SEO Core.
  • Ensure the theme creates page context and renders EmDashHead inside <head>.
  • Check the theme’s title code separately because SEO Core v1 does not generate <title>.

Understand data handling before enabling optional features

Coywolf describes its default installation as having no analytics, tracking or data gathering. That statement applies to the default plugin behavior, not every optional integration.

  • AI features can send site content to the selected Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini service. The Image Text feature can also send images.
  • IndexNow sends changed URLs to Bing.
  • Entity enrichment can query Wikidata.
  • Link Manager requests linked URLs while it inventories links.

Enable these features only after deciding which content, images and URLs may leave your hosting environment. Document the selected provider and feature for editors who will maintain the site.

Production verification checklist

  • The product name and platform are confirmed: Coywolf for WordPress, EmDash SEO Core for an EmDash project, or SEO Suite from the EmDash Registry.
  • Installation completed through the matching ZIP, pnpm/configuration or Registry workflow.
  • Site identity, publisher type, logo, social image and schema defaults are configured.
  • Titles, excerpts, robots defaults and canonical overrides have an intentional owner.
  • Article schema is applied only to article-shaped pages and posts.
  • The WordPress theme calls wp_head(), or the EmDash theme renders EmDashHead in <head>.
  • Page, host and CDN caches have been purged where applicable.
  • Redirects, robots rules, sitemap ownership and existing SEO-plugin output have been checked for conflicts.
  • Marketplace permissions and sandbox requirements have been reviewed.
  • Optional AI and network features are enabled only with an accepted data flow.

Bottom line

Install Coywolf SEO as a WordPress ZIP or directory plugin and activate it; then configure Site Details, titles, descriptions, schema, canonical and robots controls before verifying uncached HTML. Install EmDash SEO Core with pnpm and Astro registration, or install the separate EmDash SEO Suite through Registry with a sandbox runner and permission review. The combined name “Coywolf Pack EmDash SEO Plugin” does not identify one documented package, so selecting the correct platform is the essential first step.
