Install AdminToolkit in two parts: build the project and patch your mission, load @AdminToolkitServer on the dedicated server with -servermod=@AdminToolkitServer, and enable the client-side @AdminToolkit for every administrator who connects. The server also needs the patched mission PBO in mpmissions and admintoolkit.bikey in its keys directory when signature verification is enabled.
The procedure below follows the project’s documented source-build workflow. It covers administrator and moderator configuration, mission integration, vanilla and managed hosting, optional Workshop pairing, verification, and the failure modes that most often prevent the toolkit from loading.
What AdminToolkit installs
AdminToolkit (ATK) is an Arma 3 multiplayer administration mod that can be extended with user extensions. Its documented capabilities include separate administrator and moderator modes, godmode, vehicle controls, and global chat. The installation is not a single file copy: the project contains source that must be packed into PBO files, and the mission PBO must be patched so the mission loads the toolkit’s classes and functions.
There are two deliberately different components:

Do not substitute the client folder for the server folder or put the server component in the mission directory. The client mod supplies the administrator’s local interface; the server mod supplies the server-side functionality.

Prerequisites and a clean working folder
Prepare the build environment before downloading or packing anything. The project states these requirements:
- Arma 3 Tools installed through Steam.
- Visual Studio Code.
- The Arma-Dev extension for Visual Studio Code.
- A local copy of the
a3-admintoolkitsource repository. - Access to the server’s root,
mpmissions, andkeysdirectories, either locally or through your managed host’s FTP/file manager.
Use a separate working directory rather than editing a copy that is already deployed. Keep the original mission PBO and the unmodified source as backups. If you are integrating a custom mission or an extension such as Exile, preserve that mission’s existing configuration and make the toolkit changes in a copy first.

Configure administrators, moderators, and command access
Make permission changes before packing the PBOs. In the extracted source, open:

Add the administrator UID
Find the administrator array and replace the example value with the exact player UID that should receive administrator access:
AdminList[] = {"yourPlayerUID"};The UID must be the player’s Arma 3 UID, not a profile name, display name, Steam nickname, or server slot number. Copy it exactly, including every digit, and use one quoted entry per administrator when more than one account is authorized:

AdminList[] = {"firstPlayerUID", "secondPlayerUID"};Add moderator UIDs
Moderators use the separate moderator permission list:
ModeratorList[] = {"playerUID"};The project warns that moderator access can be restricted. Review the surrounding settings in config.cpp and customize the permitted actions instead of assuming that a moderator has the same authority as an administrator. Keep the lists intentional; an incorrectly copied UID can look like a loading failure when it is actually an authorization mismatch.
Set the server command password only when required
Kick and ban operations require the same server command password configured for the Arma 3 server:
ServerCommandPassword = "yoursecretpassword";Replace the example with the password in the server’s own configuration. A mismatch prevents command actions even when the user is correctly listed as an administrator. Treat this value as a secret: do not publish it in a screenshot, commit it to a public repository, or reuse a password used for another service. If your administrators only need non-command features, do not add a command password merely to make the configuration look complete.
Build the AdminToolkit PBO files
The repository is source-based, so the folders are not ready for the server until Arma 3 Tools packs them into PBO files.

- Open the extracted
a3-admintoolkitfolder in Visual Studio Code. - Confirm that the Arma-Dev extension is installed and enabled and that Arma 3 Tools is available through Steam.
- Open the Command Palette by pressing F1.
- Run Arma 3: Pack.
- Allow the command to build all PBO files in the project.
Pack after every change to config.cpp or the source. Copying an edited source folder to the server without rebuilding leaves the server running the previous configuration. Keep the generated output together so that the server and client files come from the same build.
Patch the mission PBO
Building the toolkit alone is not enough. The mission must be patched so its configuration and functions include AdminToolkit.
- Open a PowerShell window at the project’s root directory.
- Run the included patcher:
.setup.ps1 -PatchMission- When the dialog appears, select the mission PBO that you intend to run on the server.
- Wait for the patcher to finish. The patched output is written under
@MissionFile<Your.Mission.pbo>. - Keep the original PBO separately so you can compare or restore it if the mission later reports a problem.
The patcher is the project’s documented integration path. Do not rename the generated PBO or change its internal mission name unless your server’s mission selection and configuration are also updated.
Custom missions and extensions
For an Exile-based or other custom mission, select the exact mission PBO that the server loads. Inspect the repository’s mission-file documentation and retain the mission’s existing classes, functions, and configuration while adding the toolkit’s required entries. A patch that replaces rather than merges the mission configuration can remove unrelated mission behavior, so test the patched copy before deploying it to a live server.

After packing and patching, deploy each output to its matching location.

Dedicated server
- Copy
@AdminToolkitServerto the server’s Arma 3 root directory. The folder should sit beside the server’s other top-level mod folders, not insidempmissions. - Copy the patched mission PBO from
@MissionFileinto the server’smpmissionsdirectory. - Copy
admintoolkit.bikeyinto the server’skeysdirectory. This is needed when the server enforces signature verification. - Check that the folder and file names retain their capitalization and punctuation. Startup parameters are path-sensitive on some hosting environments.
Administrator and moderator clients
- Copy
@AdminToolkitto each authorized player’s Arma 3 game directory. - Enable it in the Arma 3 Launcher, or add it to the player’s startup parameters.
- Use the client build produced with the same source revision as the server build.
Regular players do not gain administration rights merely by connecting. Authorization still depends on their UID appearing in the configured list, while the client component must be enabled for the administrator or moderator who needs the toolkit controls.
Start the server with the server mod parameter
Add the server component to the dedicated server startup line:

That is why the server folder is named @AdminToolkitServer and why it should not be placed in the player’s client mod list. The player-facing @AdminToolkit is enabled separately by each connecting administrator.
If your startup line already contains other server-only mods, follow the command-line syntax supported by your server wrapper. Keep AdminToolkit’s documented parameter exactly as shown unless the wrapper requires a quoted or absolute path. Restart the server after changing the startup line; changing files while the process is running does not reload the mod.
Managed hosting and control panels
On a managed Arma 3 host, the physical steps are usually the same but the interface differs:

@AdminToolkitServerthrough FTP or the provider’s file manager to the server’s Arma 3 root. - Upload the patched mission PBO to
mpmissionsandadmintoolkit.bikeytokeys. - Open the host’s command-line manager and add the server mod using the parameter required by AdminToolkit’s documentation:
-servermod=@AdminToolkitServer. - Save the command line and restart the instance.
Some panels label the mod fields -Mods and -servermods and separate multiple names with semicolons. Host documentation commonly uses that convention, but the panel may translate the field into a different command-line switch. Use the host’s syntax while ensuring that AdminToolkit is loaded as a server mod, not as a client-only mod. If the panel has separate fields for client mods and server mods, place the folder only in the server-mod field.

Workshop pairing is optional. It applies only when a Workshop item identifier exists for the server mod. Bohemia Interactive’s documented metadata format is a meta.cpp file in the mod root:
protocol = 1;
publishedid = 123456789;Replace 123456789 with the actual item identifier. With valid metadata, the launcher can associate the server mod with that Workshop item. Without an identifier, players must install or activate the client mod manually. Do not invent an identifier or add meta.cpp merely because the folder begins with @; the file is useful only when the corresponding Workshop item exists.
First-start verification checklist
Perform these checks in order after restarting the server:
- The process starts without a missing-addon, missing-PBO, or PBO-load error.
@AdminToolkitServerexists in the server root.- The startup line contains
-servermod=@AdminToolkitServer. - The patched mission PBO is in
mpmissionsand is the mission selected by the server. admintoolkit.bikeyis inkeyswhen signature verification is enabled.- The connecting administrator has
@AdminToolkitenabled on the client. - The administrator’s UID exactly matches an entry in
AdminList[]. - Moderator accounts are listed in
ModeratorList[], with the intended restrictions still present. - If kick or ban actions are needed,
ServerCommandPasswordmatches the server configuration.
Connect with an authorized account and confirm that the toolkit interface appears and that the account receives the expected mode. Test a harmless administrative action before testing kick, ban, vehicle, or godmode controls. Record the server log output from this first start so that a later update can be compared against a known-good launch.
Troubleshooting by symptom

Updating without losing permissions
When updating AdminToolkit, repeat the complete build-and-deploy cycle rather than replacing only one folder. Keep a copy of the current config.cpp, note the deployed mission name, and record the startup line. Then:
- Replace the local source with the intended update.
- Reapply
AdminList[],ModeratorList[], andServerCommandPasswordsettings. - Run Arma 3: Pack in Visual Studio Code.
- Run
.setup.ps1 -PatchMissionagainst the current mission PBO. - Deploy the newly generated server folder, client folder, mission PBO, and key file as one set.
- Restart the server and repeat the verification checklist.
This prevents a common split-version problem in which the server runs new code, the mission contains old functions, or an administrator’s client still loads an incompatible build.
Operational and security practices
- Grant administrator access only to UIDs that need every toolkit capability.
- Use the moderator list for staff who need a narrower role and review the restrictions in
config.cpp. - Protect the server command password and change it if it has been exposed.
- Keep original mission PBOs and known-good builds so you can roll back quickly.
- Do not place server-only files in public client distributions.
- After every configuration or mission change, restart the server and verify the log before opening the server to players.
Following this layout keeps the server component, client component, patched mission, and signature key in the roles expected by AdminToolkit. The decisive checks are the server-only startup parameter, a correctly patched mission PBO, and an exact UID match for each authorized user.
