Install a jetpack mod only on the Windows PC version of Grand Theft Auto V, and use it in Story Mode—not GTA Online. The safe method is to identify whether your copy is GTA V Legacy or Enhanced, verify the mod’s minimum game build, back up the installation, install the matching Script Hook V and any .NET dependencies, keep archive edits inside OpenIV’s mods folder, and test one change at a time. If a Rockstar update breaks compatibility, remove or replace the affected loader instead of forcing files from another game build.
What you need before installing
A jetpack mod is not a single universal file. Some releases are script-only, while others need managed-script libraries, a menu framework, or model and texture archives. Read the download’s own readme before copying anything. The requirements below cover the common setup described by the two jetpack releases discussed here.

A Windows PC copy of GTA V
These instructions apply to the PC version of GTA V. Console editions do not provide the same file access or loader support. Find the folder that contains GTA5.exe; that is the game root used for Script Hook V and many script mods.
Confirm Legacy or Enhanced
GTA V Legacy and GTA V Enhanced are separate mod targets. Before downloading, check the edition shown by your launcher and the mod author’s compatibility statement. A file made for one edition may fail to load—or prevent the game from launching—on the other. Also compare the installed game build with the mod’s minimum requirement. The JetPack Mod [.NET] page specifies GTA V version 1.42 or newer because earlier versions do not contain the jetpack model.

Enough time for a reversible setup
Do not begin immediately before an online session or a major game update. A safe installation gives you time to make a backup, launch after each dependency, and remove the newest change when something fails.
Back up the game before changing files
At minimum, preserve the unmodified files that a loader or archive edit will replace, plus your saved games. A full copy of the original game directory is the easiest rollback, although it requires substantial disk space. If a complete copy is impractical, keep a clean installation available through your launcher and store a separate copy of every archive you edit.
- Close GTA V and its launcher before copying or replacing files.
- Record the installed game edition and build number.
- Save a list of every file you add, replace, or edit.
- Keep modded files in a separate profile, folder, or installation where your launcher permits it.
- Back up save games separately; a file backup does not automatically protect your progress.
A backup is especially important for archive-based model or texture mods. OpenIV’s mods workflow is designed to leave the original archives untouched, but you should still retain an original copy so that a mistaken path or incompatible replacement can be undone.

Do not install every loader mentioned in a generic tutorial. Add only the dependencies listed by your chosen jetpack package. Extra or mismatched loaders increase the number of files that can conflict after an update.

Install Script Hook V safely
- Check the supported build. Use a Script Hook V release that supports your installed GTA V build and edition. The current Script Hook V listing records version 3889.0/1158.13 and was last updated July 15, 2026; treat that as a release reference, not a guarantee that it matches a later Rockstar update.
- Download from the project’s official release source. Avoid repacked executables and “cracks.” Scan the downloaded archive with your security software before opening it.
- Open the archive and identify the required files. The current listing identifies
ScriptHookV.dlland the ASI loaderdinput8.dll. - Copy those files beside
GTA5.exe. Do not put them in the Windows system folder, the launcher folder, or an unrelated subdirectory. - Launch Story Mode only. Start the game after this dependency is installed. If GTA V will not launch, remove the newly copied files and compare the game build with the Script Hook V release before trying anything else.
Script Hook V describes itself as “the library that allows to use GTA V script native functions in custom *.asi plugins.” It is a single-player modding dependency, not an online feature. Its listing states that it does not work in GTA Online and closes GTA V when multiplayer is entered.
Add .NET and interface dependencies only if required
ScriptHookVDotNet
If the jetpack package is a .NET script, download the ScriptHookVDotNet release named in that package’s requirements. Copy only the files the release and mod readme identify into the GTA V game directory. Version compatibility matters: a .NET script can appear correctly installed yet do nothing when its managed runtime files are missing or mismatched.
NativeUI
Some scripts use NativeUI for menus, prompts, or configuration screens. Install it only when the jetpack author lists it. Follow the package’s stated path rather than copying files into every folder that looks plausible. If the script fails after a NativeUI change, restore the previous working state and verify the versions together.
Install the jetpack mod files
- Read the complete mod readme first. Note the supported edition and build, dependencies, activation key, file paths, and removal instructions.
- Check the version requirement. The JetPack Mod [.NET] release requires GTA V 1.42 or newer because earlier builds lack the jetpack model.
- Copy script files to the named location. Many script mods use the game root or a
scriptsfolder, but the author’s instructions take priority. - Install model, texture, or archive files only at the specified paths. Do not improvise an archive path because a similarly named folder exists.
- Keep a written inventory. Record each filename and destination so you can remove the mod without deleting a dependency used by another script.
- Start Story Mode and test the documented activation key. The key is mod-specific; do not assume that a key from another jetpack release will work.
Jetpack SP
Jetpack SP brings the Mammoth Thruster from GTA Online’s Doomsday Heist into GTA V single-player. Its page lists the latest ScriptHookV, ScriptHookVDotNet, and NativeUI as requirements. Install those dependencies in the order above, then place the Jetpack SP files exactly where its package specifies.

JetPack Mod [.NET]
This .NET release has the explicit GTA V 1.42-or-newer requirement. Confirm that requirement against your installed build, install the listed .NET files, and follow its own activation and file-placement instructions. Do not assume that the Jetpack SP dependency chain or controls apply to it.
Use OpenIV for archive-based assets
OpenIV is useful when a jetpack package includes model, texture, or archive replacements rather than script files alone. Its safest workflow keeps edited archives in a separate mods folder.
- Install and open OpenIV for GTA V on Windows.
- Enable the program’s
modsworkflow when prompted. - Navigate to the original archive named by the jetpack readme.
- Copy that original archive into the corresponding path inside the
modsfolder before editing it. - Open the copied archive and import the supplied model or texture files at the exact paths specified by the author.
- Save the archive, close OpenIV, and launch Story Mode to test.
If the package includes an .oiv installer, use it only as its own readme directs. Confirm the destination before accepting an installation, and keep the original archive available for rollback. Never overwrite an original archive unnecessarily when the mods workflow can isolate the change.
Test in small, reversible increments
Testing after every dependency makes a broken installation diagnosable. Use this order:

- Launch an unmodified or backed-up Story Mode profile and confirm the game starts.
- Add Script Hook V, then launch again.
- Add ScriptHookVDotNet and NativeUI only if required, then launch again.
- Add the jetpack script, launch, and test its documented key.
- Add OpenIV archive changes last, launch again, and inspect the jetpack model and textures.
Test in a quiet Story Mode location first. Check that the script responds, the model appears correctly, controls work, and the game remains stable after entering and leaving a vehicle or changing areas. Do not use a first test to enter GTA Online.
Troubleshoot by the first symptom

What to do after a GTA V update
Updates can invalidate Script Hook V and individual jetpack scripts even when your files have not changed. Do not copy a loader intended for a different build simply because its filename looks similar. Instead:
- Record the new GTA V build reported by your launcher or game files.
- Check whether Script Hook V has released a compatible update.
- Check the jetpack author’s compatibility notes and minimum build.
- Remove or disable the loader temporarily if the game fails before the mod can be updated.
- Retest dependencies in the same incremental order after installing compatible releases.
Waiting for a compatible release is safer than forcing an older script into a newer executable. A clean backup also lets you play without mods while compatibility is restored.
Remove the mod without damaging the base game
- Close GTA V and the launcher.
- Use your installation inventory to remove only the jetpack files.
- Restore replaced archives from the clean backup, or delete the edited copies in the
modsfolder and recreate them from originals. - Leave Script Hook V and shared dependencies installed only if you still use another compatible single-player mod; otherwise remove
ScriptHookV.dll,dinput8.dll, and the other loader files you added. - Launch Story Mode and confirm the unmodded or remaining modded setup works.
If you cannot identify which file belongs to the jetpack, restore the full clean game copy rather than deleting files at random. Random deletion can remove a shared dependency and create a second problem.

Keep the setup out of GTA Online
Do not enter GTA Online with Script Hook V, ASI loaders, .NET script files, or modified archives active. The Script Hook V listing says it closes GTA V when multiplayer is entered, and current installation guidance likewise limits the modded setup to single-player. Before an online session, restore a clean installation or disable and remove the loaders and other mod files. If you maintain separate folders or profiles, verify which one the launcher is starting before selecting multiplayer.
How to choose between jetpack releases
Choose the package whose requirements and rollback path you can verify, not simply the one with the most features. Compare these points in the mod’s current readme:
- Edition and build support: Does it explicitly target your Legacy or Enhanced installation and current build?
- Dependency chain: Does it need only an ASI loader, or also ScriptHookVDotNet and NativeUI?
- File type: Is it script-only, or does it require OpenIV archive edits?
- Controls: Is the activation key documented and configurable?
- Update history: Has the author addressed recent GTA V updates?
- Removal instructions: Can you identify and undo every installed file?
A script-only package with explicit dependencies is generally easier to roll back than one that edits several archives, but compatibility with your edition and build remains the deciding factor. No authoritative published statistic establishes installation success rates, crash rates, or ban probabilities, so treat claims promising guaranteed success or guaranteed safety with skepticism.
