To increase worker Pals at each base on a dedicated Palworld server, stop the server, edit the active PalWorldSettings.ini, change BaseCampWorkerMaxNum in the single OptionSettings=(...) line, save the file, and restart. The current official server guide lists 50 worker Pals per base as the maximum. The shipped default is 15, so a server that has never been changed will normally stop at 15.
Which setting controls the number of Pals?
The setting you need is BaseCampWorkerMaxNum. It controls the maximum number of worker Pals assigned to one base. It does not increase your total Pal inventory, change the number of Pals a player can carry, or add more players to the server.

BaseCampWorkerMaxNumcontrols worker Pals at each base.BaseCampMaxNumInGuildcontrols how many bases a guild can have. The current official guide lists a default of 4 and a maximum of 10 bases per guild.ServerPlayerMaxNumcontrols how many players can join the server. It does not affect Pal slots.
The active configuration is different from the default template. On Linux, edit Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini. On Windows, edit Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/PalWorldSettings.ini. Editing DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini alone does not apply a change to a running installation.

The 15 default comes from a PalDB extraction of Palworld build 4570950001 dated September 15, 2026. The 50-per-base cap is from Pocketpair’s current server documentation accessed in 2026. Values such as 20 or 30 are within that documented cap, but there is no published benchmark that says one of those values is safe for every server.
Prepare the server before changing the file
Make the change during a maintenance window. A restart is required, and editing while the dedicated server is writing its configuration can overwrite your work.

- Confirm that you are operating a dedicated server rather than a locally hosted multiplayer session. This file-based procedure applies to the dedicated server installation.
- Tell connected players that the server will be stopped and restarted.
- Stop the dedicated server cleanly before opening the configuration file.
- Make a backup copy of the active
PalWorldSettings.ini. Keep the original name and store the backup outside the configuration directory if possible. - Record the current worker limit so you can restore it if the new value causes instability.
If you rent managed Palworld server hosting, the same setting is usually exposed through a file manager or configuration editor. Look for the active LinuxServer or WindowsServer PalWorldSettings.ini, not a template file. Panel names differ by host, so use the host’s file-editing and restart controls rather than assuming a particular interface.
Linux: increase the worker-Pal limit
1. Stop the process
Stop the Palworld dedicated server through the service manager, hosting panel, or the script you normally use. Do not edit the file while the server is still running.
2. Locate the active file
From the PalServer installation directory, the active file is:
Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini
A typical installation therefore has the file below the steamapps/common/PalServer directory. The important distinction is that the file is under Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer, not directly beside the executable and not the default template.

Preserve the destination filename exactly. The server reads the active file after startup; changing the source template without creating or editing the active file will not change the running configuration.

Open PalWorldSettings.ini in a plain-text editor. The settings are normally contained in one long OptionSettings=(...) line. Find:
BaseCampWorkerMaxNum=15
Replace only the number. For example, to allow 30 workers per base, the relevant text becomes:
BaseCampWorkerMaxNum=30
Keep the surrounding commas, parentheses, spelling, capitalization, and every other option unchanged. Do not add a second OptionSettings line, insert quotation marks around the number, or split the line by pasting a formatted paragraph from a word processor.
5. Save and restart
Save the file, start the dedicated server, and wait until it has completed startup. Join the server and check a base’s worker assignment screen. Add or assign Pals until you reach the new limit; the old 15-Pal ceiling should no longer stop you if the file was read successfully.

Windows: increase the worker-Pal limit
1. Stop the dedicated server
Use the normal Windows service, batch file, or hosting-panel stop control. Wait for the process to exit before editing.
2. Open the active Windows configuration
The active path is:
Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/PalWorldSettings.ini
On a standard Steam installation, this is below the PalServer directory in steamapps/common/PalServer. If the file does not exist, copy the template:
steamapps/common/PalServer/DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini

3. Change the number in OptionSettings
Search the one-line configuration for BaseCampWorkerMaxNum=15 and replace 15 with your chosen value, up to the documented maximum of 50. A value of 20 gives 20 worker slots per base; a value of 50 gives 50 worker slots per base. These are capacity settings, not a command to spawn or automatically assign that many Pals.
4. Restart and verify
Save the file, start the server, connect, and test the base that previously reached its limit. If the limit remains 15, stop the server again and follow the troubleshooting checks below before changing additional settings.

Choosing a sensible value
Start with the smallest increase that solves your base’s problem. Moving from 15 to 20 is easier to evaluate than immediately selecting 50. If 20 is insufficient, stop the server, raise the value again, and restart rather than making several unrelated changes at once.
There is no universal hardware recommendation in the official documentation. Pocketpair explicitly warns that increasing this value raises processing load, and PalDB identifies higher worker counts as a common cause of base-camp lag. The effect depends on what your bases are doing and how many bases are active at the same time, so treat each increase as a capacity change that needs observation.
- Watch CPU utilization while players are at busy bases.
- Watch memory use and whether it continues climbing after the restart.
- Pay attention to server tick-rate or simulation warnings provided by your monitoring tools.
- Ask players whether Pal behavior, production, movement, or interaction becomes delayed.
- Consider the number and complexity of simultaneous bases, not only the worker count at one base.
If the server becomes consistently less responsive, reduce BaseCampWorkerMaxNum to the previous value or another lower value, save, and restart. The sources establish the processing-load trade-off but do not establish a guaranteed safe value for a particular CPU, memory size, player count, or base design.
Why raising the setting can cause lag
Each additional worker is another Pal whose behavior, pathing, assignments, production tasks, and interactions may need to be simulated. Increasing the per-base limit can therefore increase the amount of work the dedicated server performs. Several bases operating at the higher limit multiply that effect.
A higher limit is most useful when your base actually needs more workers. If your existing base has spare capacity or spends much of its time idle, raising the cap adds headroom but does not improve performance. Conversely, a busy production base with many active workers may show a noticeable load increase immediately after the restart.
Do not interpret the 50 maximum as a performance recommendation. It is the current documented cap, not a promise that every server can run 50 workers at every base without lag.

- Stop the server and open the active LinuxServer or WindowsServer file.
- Confirm that the file contains exactly one intended
BaseCampWorkerMaxNum=<number>entry inside theOptionSettings=(...)line. - Confirm that the number is no higher than 50.
- Save the file and check its modified time before starting the server.
- Restart the dedicated server completely; closing and reopening only a player client does not reload server settings.
- Join the server and test a base by assigning workers beyond the former 15-Pal limit.
If the game still reports the old limit, repeat the check after stopping the server. A common cause is editing DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini while the server is reading the file in Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer or Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer.

Troubleshooting common failures
The file is not present
Stop the server and copy the appropriate DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini into the matching active directory. Use LinuxServer for a Linux installation and WindowsServer for a Windows installation. Then edit the copied file and restart.

The value keeps reverting
Check that the server is stopped before saving and that you edited the active file. Some management panels regenerate configuration files when a server starts; in that situation, apply the value through the panel’s configuration editor or save the file using the panel’s documented workflow.
The server will not start after editing
Restore the backup, then restart to confirm that the file was the cause. If the backup starts normally, reapply only the single numeric change. Check for a missing comma, altered parenthesis, duplicate OptionSettings line, accidental quotation mark, or a value above 50.
The limit is still 15 after a successful restart
Verify the path, filename, capitalization, and option name. The correct key is BaseCampWorkerMaxNum. BaseCampMaxNumInGuild changes guild base capacity, while ServerPlayerMaxNum changes player capacity; neither changes worker-Pal slots.
The new limit works but the base lags
Reduce the value, restart, and compare CPU, memory, tick-rate, and player reports. Increase in smaller increments only if the lower setting is stable. There is no published hardware-class benchmark that can predict the result for your server.
Settings that are often confused with worker capacity
Use BaseCampWorkerMaxNum when the problem is “this base cannot assign more worker Pals.” Use BaseCampMaxNumInGuild when the problem is “our guild cannot place another base.” Use ServerPlayerMaxNum when the problem is “another player cannot join.” These limits operate independently, so raising one does not raise either of the others.
