To raise bass on many VIZIO sound bars, press BASS on the remote, then press Next to increase the level. That button sequence is model-specific, not universal: identify your sound bar model first and use its manual to confirm the controls.
Find your VIZIO sound bar model
Check the product label or the documentation that came with the sound bar. The model determines which remote controls and adjustment menus apply. If you no longer have the manual, look up the exact model on VIZIO Support rather than assuming another model’s button sequence will work.
Raise bass with a BASS button
- Start audio playback and set the overall volume to a comfortable level.
- On a remote with a BASS button, press it to select the bass adjustment.
- Press Next to increase the level. Use Previous to decrease it if the sound becomes too strong.
VIZIO documents this BASS-and-Next/Previous pattern for the M213ad-K8 and SB3830-C6M. For the M213ad-K8, the LED indicators move right as the level increases and left as it decreases. The M213ad-K8 manual also notes that lowering Bass Level to its lowest setting reduces both the bar’s bass and subwoofer levels.
If your remote has Level, Setup, or Effect controls
Some VIZIO remotes use a menu rather than a dedicated BASS button. For example, VIZIO describes bass adjustment through the Level/Setup/Effect controls on its D51-H remote, listed for the V51-H6, M51a-H6, and select sound bar models. Use your model’s manual to find the relevant menu item and navigation buttons; the D51-H instructions should not be assumed to apply to other remotes.

Check whether subwoofer volume is separate
A bass adjustment does not always mean there is a separate subwoofer-volume control. On the M213ad-K8, the Bass Level setting affects bass and subwoofer levels together. By contrast, the older RS65B2 manual documents a separate menu item called Subwoofer for adjusting subwoofer volume. Check your manual for the control your model actually provides.
Check for a bass-reducing mode
On the M213ad-K8, VIZIO says Night Mode reduces bass frequencies for a quieter environment. If bass seems unexpectedly low, check whether that mode is active. The manual says Night Mode will be off the next time the sound bar is turned on.

Adjust subwoofer placement if the setting is not enough
Room layout and subwoofer placement can affect how much bass you hear. VIZIO’s V21x setup guidance suggests moving the subwoofer toward a corner to get more bass. Try a few positions and listen from your usual seat; results depend on the room, so a corner is a suggestion rather than a guaranteed improvement.

When using an optional external subwoofer
The SB3830-C6M quick-start guide gives a model-specific setup sequence for an optional external subwoofer: set bass to the center position before connecting it, then adjust the external subwoofer’s gain and phase, and use the BASS control to adjust output. Follow that guidance only if it applies to your SB3830-C6M setup; it is not a general requirement for VIZIO sound bars.
