To customize a PC, start with the settings and devices you already have: enable HDR only on a supported display, choose the correct Windows audio output before trying spatial sound, and use lighting software only when it supports your exact hardware. These three paths make meaningful changes without assuming that every PC supports the same features or needs new gear.
Check compatibility before changing settings or buying hardware
First identify your Windows version, the display you want to adjust, the current audio output, and the exact model of any RGB-equipped PC or peripheral. Support depends on the hardware: an HDR toggle requires a compatible PC and display, spatial-sound options are for supported audio devices, and lighting utilities control only compatible products.
- Display: Check the monitor or laptop specifications for HDR support and, for external displays, confirm the PC and connection support the intended HDR setup.
- Sound: Identify whether Windows should use speakers, headphones, or another connected output.
- Lighting: Look up the exact PC or accessory model on its manufacturer’s support page before installing a utility.
For an HDR display purchase, compare support or certification, intended use, PC and connection compatibility, and independent reviews that address color accuracy. VESA DisplayHDR certification requirements are not a promise that every display delivers identical results; Microsoft’s guidance recommends checking certification and color-accuracy reviews (Microsoft: What is HDR in Windows?; Microsoft Learn: Display).

Turn HDR on for the intended display
- Open Settings > System > Display.
- Select the HDR-capable display you want to configure. This matters if more than one display is connected.
- Open the display’s HDR settings and turn on HDR. The available controls depend on Windows version and device support; Microsoft documents instructions for Windows 11 and Windows 10 in its HDR settings guide.
- If the HDR control is unavailable, check the PC’s and display’s HDR support and the display configuration rather than assuming a Windows setting is missing.
Set expectations for HDR and SDR content
HDR can improve the brightness and detail of supported content, but the result varies with the display and its settings. SDR content shown on an HDR display may look too bright or too dark; use Windows’ relative-brightness control if available to adjust its appearance. Color behavior also varies by make and model, so an HDR label alone does not establish equivalent image quality.

How to set up Windows audio and try spatial sound
Choose the right output first
If sound is missing or coming from the wrong device, select the intended output in Windows and check that the device is connected. Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance starts with output-device selection and connections, so test those before considering a new headset or sound hardware (Microsoft: Fix sound or audio problems in Windows).

- Enjoy expansive cinematic sound. Big 50 mm audio drivers deliver an incredible sound experience
- Hear Enemies From All Sides. DTS Headphone:X 2.0 surround sound(1) lets you hear enemies sneaking behind you, special ability cues, and immersive environments. It’s positional clarity that can make the difference between victory and defeat. Experience three-dimensional audio that goes beyond 7.1 channels to make you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action. (1) DTS Headphone:X 2.0 requires Logitech G HUB Software.
- Be Heard Loud and Clear. The big 6 mm boom mic makes sure you’re heard by gaming partners and mutes when flipped up.
- Use One Headset For Most Game Platforms. Your headphones work with your PC or Mac via USB DAC or 3.5 mm cable, mobile devices with 3.5 mm cable or with gaming consoles including PlayStationⓇ 5 and PlayStationⓇ 4 (USB wireless stereo sound only), Nintendo Switch (wireless stereo sound when docked)
- Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
Try a spatial-sound mode with headphones
- Open the sound settings for the headphones or other intended playback device.
- Open the device’s spatial-sound properties and choose Windows Sonic for Headphones, if available.
- If you want to try alternatives, Microsoft also lists Dolby Access and DTS Sound Unbound, available through Microsoft Store. Follow the relevant app or Windows prompts to configure them.
- Listen in the situations where you expect to use the setting and keep the mode only if you prefer the result.
Spatial sound is an optional mode, not a guarantee of more accurate or better sound for every headphone or use. A dedicated pair of headphones can provide a listening device for trying it, but the cited Windows guidance does not establish that you need to buy a particular headset (Microsoft: How to turn on spatial sound in Windows; Microsoft Windows: Create a Great PC Gaming Experience).
How to customize RGB lighting with compatible software
For supported ASUS systems and devices
ASUS documents Armoury Crate as a utility with lighting and Aura Sync controls, along with system and audio features, for supported ROG and TUF gaming systems. Available controls vary by model. Check the exact model’s support page and install the matching official utility rather than assuming one application controls every ASUS device (ASUS ROG Support: Armoury Crate Introduction (Ver6.0)).

For compatible monitors and Aura Sync products
ASUS also documents Aura Sync controls for supported LCD monitors and other compatible products. Some uses have monitor-side settings and USB connection requirements. Check the instructions for the specific model and setup; Aura Sync is not a universal controller for arbitrary RGB products (ASUS Support: Aura Sync lighting effects).

- Find the exact model name of the PC, monitor, or peripheral.
- Open that model’s official support page and confirm the documented lighting software and requirements.
- Install the matching utility and connect the device as instructed, including any required USB connection.
- Use only controls shown for that supported device; other models may expose different lighting options.
Choose the next change based on what you want to improve
- Better HDR viewing: Confirm support first, enable HDR for the intended display, then adjust SDR brightness if needed. If shopping for a monitor, weigh its certification and color-accuracy evidence alongside PC and connection compatibility.
- More immersive headphone audio: Verify the correct output, then try a spatial-sound mode. A new headset is optional, not a stated requirement.
- Coordinated lighting: Start with the exact hardware model and its official software support. Do not choose a lighting ecosystem on the assumption that its utility will control devices it does not list.
