If an opponent appears to be cheating in Counter-Strike 2, report the player through the in-game scoreboard first. Hold Tab, press the alternate-fire/zoom key (right mouse button by default) to release the cursor, select the player’s name, choose Report, select the relevant cheating categories, and accept. You can also report the player’s Steam Community profile. Reporting gives Valve information to review; it is not a verdict, and a report by itself does not guarantee a VAC ban.

Report the player through CS2’s official channels

The most useful action is to submit a factual report while the match or recent-match context is still fresh. Use the client interface rather than naming the player in public discussions or posting identifying information. Reporting is the appropriate way to put your concern in front of Valve; arguing in chat or recruiting other players to target someone does not replace it.

Use the in-game scoreboard

  1. Join the match and hold Tab to open the scoreboard. Tab is the default scoreboard key.
  2. Press the alternate-fire or zoom key. The default binding is the right mouse button. This makes the mouse cursor available while the scoreboard is open.
  3. Click the suspected player’s name.
  4. Select Report.
  5. Check the cheating categories that match what you observed.
  6. Accept the report to submit it.

Choose only categories that describe the behavior you actually saw. A report is more useful when it identifies a concrete concern instead of treating a surprising round, a skilled opponent, or an argument in chat as proof of cheating. If you are unsure which category best fits, select the one that most closely describes the observable conduct rather than guessing at the software supposedly being used.

The scoreboard route is the direct CS2 workflow documented by Steam Support. You do not need to publish a clip, find the player’s real identity, or prove the case yourself before using it. Your role is to identify the account and communicate the concern; Valve decides what evidence and review are appropriate.

Report from the player’s Steam Community profile

Steam Support also documents a profile-based route. Open the player’s Steam Community profile, use the profile’s report control, select the appropriate reason, and submit it. This is an alternative reporting channel, not a separate enforcement system. The cited Steam guidance does not establish different enforcement outcomes for the scoreboard route and the profile route.

This route is useful when the match scoreboard is no longer available or when you need to reach the account from Steam. Confirm that you have selected the correct profile before submitting. A similar display name is not enough to identify an account, so avoid guessing or reporting several people simply because they look alike.

Do not turn a report into a public accusation

Steam asks users not to post Steam IDs, cheat files, or links to cheat sites in Steam or Steam discussions. Keep the report inside the official reporting flows. Do not publish a player’s identity or encourage other users to harass them. If you need to describe the problem to Valve, describe the match and the behavior rather than making a public declaration that the player is guilty.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Public accusations also make it harder to separate a genuine concern from a dispute about a lost round. Keep screenshots or personal notes for your own reference if they help you remember the sequence, but do not use them to organize retaliation, spam a profile, or distribute suspected cheat software.

Understand what happens after you submit a report

A report is information for Valve’s anti-cheat and review systems, not a finding that the player cheated. Steam Support’s Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) FAQ states: Users are not VAC banned based on reports alone. Other factors are considered before a VAC ban is issued.

That means you should not expect an immediate ban, a message confirming that your report was decisive, or a visible explanation of the review. You also cannot infer from the absence of a visible action that a report was ignored. Submit the report accurately, then let Valve’s systems handle the determination.

Do not promise teammates that a ban is coming, and do not treat a later win, loss, or unchanged profile as proof of what Valve decided. The official statement sets a clear limit: reports can supply information, but they are not by themselves the decision-making standard for a VAC ban.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Improve the quality of your reports

When you suspect a cheat, separate what you observed from what you concluded. The following approach keeps the report specific without requiring you to prove the case yourself.

  • Identify the player: select the correct name from the scoreboard or profile.
  • Describe observable behavior: select categories that correspond to what happened, such as aim or vision-related concerns when those are the behavior you saw.
  • Use more than one example only when it is relevant: repeated, clearly described incidents are more informative than a single emotional reaction.
  • Report once through an official channel: do not flood Steam discussions or teammates with accusations.

Strong aim, an unusual pre-fire, or a teammate’s callout can have innocent explanations. You do not have to resolve that uncertainty before reporting; you do have to avoid presenting suspicion as an established fact. Lag, sound information, common angles, spectator perspective, and a player’s prior experience can all make a legitimate play look unexpected. None of those possibilities prevents you from reporting a repeated pattern that genuinely concerns you.

Think in terms of repeatable observations: what happened, how often it happened, and why it seemed inconsistent with ordinary play. Do not add a theory about a particular cheat unless the reporting interface asks for a category that matches your observation. The less speculation you include, the less likely frustration is to turn into an inaccurate accusation.

What Valve publicly says about improving matchmaking

Valve’s public Trust Factor guidance was written for CS:GO, not as a complete, current CS2 formula. It says the system considered a range of account and gameplay signals, while deliberately declining to publish the full list of factors or an individual player’s Trust Factor score.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The practical advice in that legacy FAQ is to behave legitimately and contribute positively to the communities around the games. Valve’s Counter-Strike team summarized it this way: All you need to do is be a positive member of the CS:GO and Steam community. The same page also says: All you need to do to improve your matchmaking experience is continue to play CS:GO and other Steam games legitimately.

Treat those statements as public guidance, not a promise about a specific CS2 match. Valve has not published a detailed formula or a personal score that you can inspect, so no third party can credibly tell you that one particular action will raise your score by a known amount. Be skeptical of services or guides claiming to reveal an exact score or a guaranteed way to change it; the cited FAQ does not disclose either.

Keep your own account in good standing

  • Play legitimately and do not use cheats or unauthorized assistance.
  • Use Steam and Counter-Strike normally rather than attempting to manipulate an unseen matchmaking score.
  • Use official reporting tools when a match concerns you instead of retaliating, griefing, or publicly targeting another player.
  • Keep your feedback accurate and focused on matchmaking quality rather than demanding a particular punishment for another account.

These steps align with Valve’s published principle, but they do not guarantee that every future lobby will be free of suspicious behavior. Legitimate play is sensible account hygiene, not a promise of perfect opponents.

Party matchmaking has a legacy Trust Factor caveat

Valve’s CS:GO-era Trust Factor FAQ says matchmaking used the lowest Trust Factor among players in a party. This is a specific statement from that older documentation; it is not a published CS2 calculation or a guarantee that you can diagnose a current party’s matchmaking from it. If one member of a group reports consistently poor matches, avoid assuming that the FAQ reveals the exact cause.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

In practical terms, do not use a friend’s apparent match quality to calculate your own hidden score, and do not accuse a party member of causing a lobby problem. The public page does not provide the inputs, weighting, or current CS2 implementation needed to make that conclusion.

Send detailed feedback if your matchmaking remains poor

The same legacy FAQ gives a feedback route: email CSGOTeamFeedback@valvesoftware.com with the subject Trust Factor Feedback, explain the poor matchmaking experience, and include your Steam ID. This is a way to provide context to Valve, not a request for a disclosed score or a guaranteed matchmaking change. Because the page is CS:GO-era, describe the current CS2 experience clearly rather than claiming that the old formula still operates unchanged.

Use this channel for a continuing pattern, such as repeated poor matchmaking experiences, rather than as a substitute for reporting one suspicious player. Keep the message concise and factual: identify the game, explain what kind of matches you are getting, and provide the requested account identifier. Do not include public accusations, cheat links, or a demand that Valve reveal a score the FAQ says is not disclosed.

Trusted Mode and Trust Factor are different things

These terms are easy to confuse because both are associated with cleaner matches, but they refer to different systems.

System What Valve’s public guidance establishes What it does not establish
Trusted Mode CS2 security mode enabled by default; it blocks third-party files from interacting with the game. It is not a published Trust Factor score and does not select only “clean” opponents.
Trust Factor A matchmaking concept described in Valve’s older CS:GO FAQ; the detailed factor list and individual score are not disclosed there. There is no public formula or current personal score in the cited guidance, and the FAQ does not guarantee a particular CS2 outcome.

Steam Support explicitly says that playing in normal, non-Trusted mode does not guarantee a Trust score penalty or separation from players in Trusted Mode. Therefore, do not disable or enable a mode on the assumption that it will place you in a guaranteed cheat-free queue. Trusted Mode’s documented purpose is to restrict third-party interaction with the game; it is not a matchmaking verdict.

Enabling Trusted Mode by default is therefore a security setting, not a way to inspect or repair an account’s hidden matchmaking status. Conversely, a player who has used normal mode is not automatically shown by this guidance to have a lower score or to be separated from Trusted Mode players. Keep the two concepts separate when troubleshooting.

A practical decision process during a suspicious match

1. Check whether the concern is reportable behavior

Ask what you actually observed: a repeated pattern, a specific interaction, or only an unexpectedly good play. This short pause helps you choose the right report category and prevents an argument from becoming an inaccurate accusation. You can report a concern without declaring certainty, but the category should still match the conduct you saw.

2. Preserve the relevant context in your own notes

If you need to explain the problem later, note the player’s name, the map, the approximate round, and what happened. Keep those notes for a support message; do not post Steam IDs or cheat links publicly. Notes are for accuracy, not for building a public case against another player.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Submit the in-game report before leaving the match

The scoreboard route is the direct CS2 workflow. Follow the six steps above and select only the categories supported by your observations. Check the selected name carefully before accepting.

4. Use the profile route when the scoreboard is no longer available

If you can no longer reach the in-game scoreboard, use the player’s Steam Community profile report flow. It is still an official channel for communicating your concern. The profile route is not documented as producing a different result from an in-game report.

5. Return to normal play

Do not chase the opponent across matches, organize retaliation, or attempt to test a suspected cheat yourself. A report has been submitted; Valve’s systems decide what additional evidence or action is appropriate. Continuing to play legitimately protects your own account and keeps the incident from becoming a second problem.

Demo review: useful context, but do not rely on an old workflow

Valve’s February 25, 2020 CS:GO release notes described reporting a player from a recently played match after viewing the demo from the Watch tab. That is historical CS:GO information. The source does not establish that the same Watch-tab reporting workflow exists in the current CS2 client.

If you review a demo, use whatever current Watch or replay controls the CS2 client actually presents. Do not follow an old menu path that is missing from your installation, and do not describe the 2020 process as verified CS2 instructions. Regardless of how you review a match, submit the final concern through the current in-game or Steam profile reporting controls.

Demo review can help you distinguish a one-off angle from a repeated pattern, but it is not a requirement for reporting and it does not turn your conclusion into an enforcement decision. Treat it as a way to improve the accuracy of your description, not as a promise that a particular historical menu still exists.

Common mistakes that make the situation worse

Assuming a report automatically causes a VAC ban

Reports alone do not determine VAC bans. Expecting an automatic result encourages repeated submissions and public confrontations. Submit one accurate report and allow other factors in Valve’s review process to be considered.

Confusing Trusted Mode with a matchmaking guarantee

Trusted Mode limits third-party file interaction. It does not disclose or replace Trust Factor, and Steam Support says normal mode does not guarantee a Trust penalty or separation from Trusted Mode players.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Treating the CS:GO Trust Factor FAQ as a current CS2 formula

The FAQ is valuable for understanding Valve’s public principles, but it is explicitly from the CS:GO era and does not publish a complete formula. Use it to guide legitimate conduct, not to calculate an individual score or predict the next lobby.

Posting identifying information or cheat links

Steam’s guidance is to use its reporting channels rather than Steam discussions for Steam IDs, cheats, or links to cheat sites. Public posts can turn a gameplay dispute into harassment and do not substitute for a report.

Using generic hardware or software fixes for an enforcement problem

A new mouse, headset, monitor, or unrelated utility cannot establish that an opponent is legitimate or change Valve’s review decision. The actions supported by the official guidance are reporting accurately, playing legitimately, and providing feedback through the stated channel when matchmaking remains a concern.

Paying for a supposed Trust Factor solution

Valve’s cited guidance does not publish a score, formula, or paid remedy. Be cautious of anyone promising a guaranteed rating change, a private list of clean players, or a certain ban based on mass reports. Those promises go beyond what the official documentation establishes.

When to contact Valve about your matchmaking experience

Use the feedback address from the Trust Factor FAQ when the problem is a sustained matchmaking experience rather than one isolated round. Include a concise description of what you are seeing, your Steam ID, and the fact that you are reporting a CS2 experience while recognizing that the published FAQ is legacy CS:GO guidance. Do not claim to know your Trust Factor score; Valve does not publish an individual score in that guidance.

Keep the message focused on matchmaking quality. A suspected cheater in one match should still be reported through the in-game or profile flow, not treated as proof that your entire account has a particular hidden score. The feedback address is a channel for context, not an appeal that guarantees a remade lobby or a disclosed investigation.

What a realistic outcome looks like

  • You submit an in-game or Steam profile report with the relevant cheating categories.
  • You avoid public accusations, Steam IDs, and cheat links.
  • You continue to play legitimately and keep Trusted Mode and Trust Factor conceptually separate.
  • You use the legacy feedback address only to describe a continuing matchmaking problem, without expecting a disclosed score or guaranteed change.
  • You accept that Valve’s review outcome may not be visible to you and that a report alone is not a VAC-ban decision.

This approach gives Valve the information it asks players to provide while reducing the chance that frustration produces another violation or an inaccurate accusation. It also keeps your expectations realistic: official tools can communicate a concern, but no cited Valve page promises a particular opponent, queue, score, or enforcement result.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I report players I believe are cheating on VAC-secured servers?

In CS2, hold Tab to open the scoreboard, press the alternate-fire or zoom key (right mouse button by default) to show the cursor, click the player’s name, choose Report, select the relevant cheating categories, and accept. Steam Support also documents reporting through the player’s Steam Community profile.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will my report automatically give the player a VAC ban?

No. Steam Support’s Valve Anti-Cheat FAQ says, “Users are not VAC banned based on reports alone.” Other factors are considered, and you should not expect a visible or immediate result.

Can I see my Trust Factor score or the exact formula?

Not in the cited Valve FAQ. The public CS:GO-era guidance does not disclose the complete factor list or an individual player’s score, so there is no official number to inspect or calculate.

Does Trusted Mode guarantee cleaner matchmaking?

No. Steam Support describes Trusted Mode as a CS2 security feature that blocks third-party files from interacting with the game. It does not publish Trusted Mode as a clean-player queue, and normal mode is not stated to guarantee a Trust penalty or separation from Trusted Mode players.

What should I do if poor matchmaking keeps happening?

Continue playing legitimately and describe the sustained problem to Valve through the feedback route listed in the legacy Trust Factor FAQ: CSGOTeamFeedback@valvesoftware.com, with the subject “Trust Factor Feedback” and your Steam ID. Explain that the experience is in CS2 and do not claim to know a hidden score.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use an old demo-reporting menu from CS:GO?

Valve’s February 25, 2020 release notes describe a CS:GO Watch-tab workflow, but they do not establish that the same menu exists in current CS2. Use the current client interface and rely on the in-game scoreboard or Steam profile reporting controls.

Should I post the player’s Steam ID or a cheat link so others can investigate?

No. Steam asks users not to post Steam IDs, cheats, or links to cheat sites in Steam or Steam discussions. Use the official report flow and avoid public accusations or harassment.

The Bottom Line

Report the suspected player through CS2’s scoreboard, or use the Steam Community profile route when the scoreboard is unavailable. Describe only what you observed, keep Steam IDs and cheat links out of public posts, and remember that a report alone is not a VAC-ban decision. Play legitimately, treat Valve’s CS:GO-era Trust Factor advice as guidance rather than a current formula, and do not confuse Trusted Mode’s security function with a matchmaking guarantee.
