For Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Boom on iOS or Android, start with the controls inside your installed build: verify whether auto-fire is enabled, test it on and off, and compare touch input with a compatible phone controller if the game offers that option. Change one setting at a time. A controller can feel more consistent for some players, but there is no published test proving that it lowers Boom’s measured input latency.
First, make sure you are troubleshooting the right game
Boltgun Boom is the mobile retro first-person shooter, not the earlier Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun release for PC and consoles. The App Store description presents Boom as a mobile game with fast movement and mobile-optimized controls. Warhammer Community’s announcement of 21 May 2026 likewise describes an iOS and Android title built around fast movement and mobile controls.
Advice written for the PC and console Boltgun—such as editing configuration files, changing launch parameters, or entering console commands—does not automatically apply to Boom. Those are different games with different input systems. Use only options that appear in Boom’s own current menus.
What is known about Boom’s controls
The official App Store listing checked for this guide showed version 1.1.0. Version numbers, menu labels and available features can change, and Android and iOS builds may not expose exactly the same controls.
#1 Best Overall

A player report in a recent community discussion describes three relevant options: auto-fire was enabled by default, it could be turned off, and the game included a controller option with manual control binding. The same player requested a way to edit the on-screen control layout. These are observations from one player, not an official promise that every device and version has every option.
Consequently, treat the following as a verification procedure rather than a fixed list of guaranteed settings.
Use a controlled baseline before changing anything
“The movement controls are not responsive” can describe several different experiences: a delayed character response, an uncomfortable touch layout, an unexpectedly long press, a dropped input, or a game that is rendering frames unevenly. You cannot tell which one you have if you change several settings at once.

It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.
- Record the build. Note whether you are on iOS or Android and the version shown by the store or the game’s information screen. Keep this with your test notes because a later update can change the controls.
- Choose a repeatable action. In a safe area, tap forward, strafe, turn, jump or fire using the same finger position each time. Test one direction at a time before combining movement and aiming.
- Observe the first response. Look for a consistent delay, missed taps, an action that starts only after a long press, or movement that begins promptly but appears uneven.
- Change one variable. Test auto-fire, another input method, or a binding separately. Return to the baseline between tests when practical.
- Write down the result in plain language. “Strafing felt easier with the controller” is a valid personal result; it is not a measured latency number.
This method prevents a controller change, a control toggle and an unrelated device update from being mistaken for one proven fix.
Check auto-fire in Boom’s own control menu
Auto-fire is the first reported setting worth checking because it changes how firing interacts with movement and aiming. It may be enabled when you first play.
- Pause the game or return to its main menu.
- Open the menu labelled Controls, Input, Settings or an equivalent label in your build.
- Look for an Auto-fire or similarly named switch. Do not assume its location from a guide for the original Boltgun.
- Test the current state in a quiet area, then switch it and repeat the same movement-and-aiming exercise.
- Keep the state that gives you the clearest control. If neither state feels better, restore your preferred baseline rather than treating the toggle as a latency fix.
Turning auto-fire off can make a player feel more in control because firing becomes an explicit input. It does not establish that the game’s underlying input latency has changed, and no official latency measurement for either state has been published.

Try a physical controller only as an alternative input method
If touch input is the source of missed or uncomfortable actions, a phone-compatible Bluetooth or wired controller may provide a more familiar arrangement of sticks and buttons. The player report mentioned a controller option, but it did not establish a particular controller model, phone, operating-system version or tested combination.
Verify compatibility before buying anything
- Check that the controller is supported by your phone’s operating system and can pair with it.
- Confirm that Boom recognizes the controller; phone-level pairing alone does not guarantee in-game support.
- Look for an input-device choice in Boom’s control menu after pairing.
- Check whether the game permits manual binding and whether every essential action is detected.
- Keep the receipt or return option until you have tested the actual game on your phone.
Compare touch and controller fairly
| Factor | Touch controls | Compatible controller |
|---|---|---|
| Comfort | Depends on screen size, finger reach and the on-screen layout available in your build. | Physical sticks and buttons may feel more familiar, but comfort varies by controller and hand size. |
| Precision | Virtual sticks and taps can be precise after practice, but fingers can obscure the screen or slide off a control. | Physical travel can make repeated movement easier for some players; no universal precision result is established. |
| Button access | Limited to the controls Boom places on screen; a player has requested more layout editing. | Potentially easier access to several buttons, subject to Boom’s detected mapping and binding menu. |
| Compatibility | Available wherever Boom runs, although the layout and options can vary by version or operating system. | Requires a controller supported by both your phone and Boom. |
| Perceived responsiveness | May feel immediate or awkward depending on touch technique and layout. | May feel more consistent to an individual player; the sources do not provide a measured latency comparison. |
Run the same baseline exercise with each method. If the controller feels better, describe that as an improvement in your experience, not proof that it reduced milliseconds of delay.
Review manual bindings when they are available
The community report also says controls could be bound manually. If that option appears in your version, use it to put the actions you perform most often where your fingers or thumbs can reach them without releasing movement.

- Open Boom’s control or input menu and select the binding or remapping screen.
- Select one action at a time, such as forward, strafe, turn, jump or fire.
- Assign the desired touch control or physical button and confirm the change before moving to the next action.
- Check for duplicate assignments or an unbound essential action.
- Test the complete set in a quiet area, then in a normal encounter.
Manual binding changes the path from your input to an action; it does not guarantee a faster engine response. If a binding is rejected, disappears after restarting, or causes two actions to trigger together, restore the default layout and test again. Record the exact version when reporting the problem.

A delayed first response
If the character consistently starts moving noticeably after a tap or stick movement, test the same action with auto-fire changed and, if possible, with a controller. A difference between input methods points to an interaction with the control scheme, but it still does not identify a measured latency value.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Missed or inconsistent touch input
Clean and dry the screen, remove anything that interferes with contact, and repeat the baseline without changing game settings. If only certain parts of the screen fail to register, the problem may be the touch surface or the on-screen control position rather than Boom’s movement code. The available evidence does not establish a Boom-specific screen-calibration procedure.

Movement that starts promptly but looks uneven
Prompt movement followed by visual hitching is not the same symptom as a delayed input event. The official material reviewed does not document Boom graphics, synchronization, frame-rate or device-performance settings that have been tested as input-lag fixes. Do not claim that lowering graphics, disabling synchronization or forcing a frame rate solves Boom lag without a version-specific test.
One action works while another does not
Check the binding for the failing action and verify that no second action shares the same input unintentionally. Test a default mapping before concluding that the game or phone is ignoring input.
The problem appears only after connecting a controller
Unpair the controller, restart Boom and test touch input. Then pair the controller again and inspect the game’s input-device setting. This isolates pairing or recognition problems from the touch controls. Because no specific controller and phone combinations were tested in the available sources, compatibility must be established on your own equipment.
Use a simple decision path
- Are you playing the mobile Boom? If not, stop and find advice for the correct title.
- Does the current build expose an auto-fire switch? Test both states with the same movement exercise.
- Does it expose controller support? If yes, test a compatible controller only after confirming phone and game compatibility.
- Does it expose manual binding? Reassign one problematic action, then test for conflicts.
- Did one change improve your personal result? Keep that change and document the version; otherwise return to the least troublesome default.
- Is the symptom unchanged across touch and controller? Treat it as an unresolved game, device or version issue rather than buying more hardware or applying PC-Boltgun tweaks.
What has not been established
- No official input-latency measurement for Boom was located.
- No device-by-device or controller-by-controller latency table is available.
- No exact sensitivity value, graphics preset, synchronization setting or frame-rate limit is documented as a proven fix.
- The reported auto-fire, controller and manual-binding options may differ by version, operating system and device.
- “Fast movement” in the official announcement is a product description, not a measured response-time claim.
These limits matter because a setting can improve comfort without changing the time between an input event and a displayed result. Report your own observations with the platform, game version, input method and exact menu state so another player can reproduce the test.
How to report a reproducible control problem
When the steps above do not help, capture the information a developer would need rather than describing the issue only as “lag.” Include:
- iOS or Android, device model and operating-system version;
- Boom’s displayed version;
- touch or controller input, including whether auto-fire was on or off;
- whether controls were manually rebound;
- the exact action that failed and a repeatable sequence;
- whether the same action worked immediately after restoring defaults.
This does not prove a cause, but it separates a control-layout problem from a broader performance or input-recognition issue and makes a useful support report possible.
