To improve PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS performance on PC, first determine whether you have low frame rate, intermittent stutter, or a network problem. Then follow PUBG Support’s maintenance sequence: remove old Steam launch options, verify the game files, update Windows and your graphics driver, test with factory hardware settings, and use a clean reinstall only when necessary. Compare your hardware with PUBG’s published requirements before considering an upgrade. These steps can remove common causes of instability, but no official source promises a particular FPS increase from a setting, launch command, component, or registry change.

Start by separating FPS problems from connection lag

Players use “lag” to describe several different symptoms. Treating them as the same problem sends troubleshooting in the wrong direction.

Low FPS or frame-time stutter

Low FPS means the game is rendering fewer frames than you want. A consistently low frame rate usually feels slow whenever you are playing, while intermittent frame drops or stutter appear as brief hitches during otherwise smooth play. These are rendering and system-performance problems. Hardware capability, drivers, corrupted files, Windows components, and unstable overclocks are relevant lines of investigation.

Network or connection lag

Connection lag is a delay or interruption in communication with the game server. It can feel like delayed actions, players jumping between positions, or a temporary freeze even when your rendering is otherwise smooth. The official material used for this guide does not establish a detailed router, DNS, VPN, or latency-fix procedure. Do not assume that lowering graphics settings, changing a registry value, or adding a launch command will repair a network path.

A quick comparison before changing anything

What you observe Most useful first question Initial direction
The game is slow in every match Is the PC below PUBG’s published CPU, GPU, or RAM baseline? Compare components with the requirements, then perform the official maintenance steps.
Short hitches began after an update, driver change, or installation change Did the timing match that change? Verify files and update Windows and the graphics driver; test without overclocks.
Frames appear smooth but actions or player positions are delayed Does the symptom persist with stable rendering? Treat it as a connection issue rather than promising a graphics tweak.

Write down when the problem started, what changed immediately beforehand, and whether it affects every session or only particular matches. Note whether the symptom is a steady slowdown, a repeatable hitch, a crash, or delayed interaction. That record makes later support requests more useful and prevents you from forgetting which variable was changed.

Compare your PC with PUBG’s published requirements

PUBG Support lists the following PC specifications. They are older published baselines, not a current-market buying guide, and they do not predict a precise frame rate for your particular map, scene, resolution, or graphics configuration.

Specification Minimum Recommended Competitive configuration
Operating system Windows 10 Windows 10 Not separately stated
Processor Intel Core i5-4430 or AMD FX-6300 Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Intel Core i9-9900K
Memory 8 GB RAM 16 GB RAM 32 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 2 GB or AMD Radeon R7 370 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 4 GB NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super or AMD RX 5700
Graphics API DirectX 11 DirectX 11 Not separately stated
Storage 40 GB 50 GB Not separately stated
Network Broadband connection Broadband connection Not separately stated

How to interpret the tiers

The minimum list tells you the published floor for launching and running the game; it is not a promise of smooth high-refresh play. The recommended list includes 16 GB of RAM and a GTX 1060 3 GB or RX 580 4 GB. PUBG Support says the recommended requirements are intended to run the game at 144 FPS in most situations. “Most situations” is a qualification, not a guaranteed benchmark for every system or scene.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

These specifications also describe a complete platform, not an instruction to replace every part. A PC with a recommended-class GPU can still stutter for another reason, while a machine below one line may run acceptably in a particular configuration. Check the actual CPU model, graphics card, installed RAM, operating system, and free storage before spending money.

When an upgrade is worth investigating

First identify your actual CPU, GPU, and installed memory, then compare them with the table. A graphics-card or RAM upgrade is a reasonable line of inquiry when your machine is below a published baseline. The available official information does not provide an expected FPS gain, a current best-value model, or evidence that one component upgrade will fix every type of stutter.

Use a cost comparison rather than a promise: price the deficient component, check power-supply and case compatibility, and compare that total with a compatible replacement system near the recommended tier. If your parts already meet or exceed the listed recommendation, maintenance and diagnosis should come before a purchase. Do not buy a GPU as a guaranteed cure for connection delay.

Storage capacity is a requirement and matters when installation or updates fail, but the cited support material does not state that moving PUBG to an SSD increases FPS. Do not buy storage on the assumption that it is a measured frame-rate fix. Leave enough free space for updates and follow Steam’s installation requirements.

Follow PUBG Support’s troubleshooting sequence

Run these steps in order. After each major change, start PUBG and check whether the original symptom is still present. Keeping the order gives you a clear record of what changed. If you share the PC with other software, close unnecessary overlays or background tools only as a controlled test, and record that change rather than assuming it is the answer.

  1. Remove all Steam launch options

In Steam, open PUBG’s properties and inspect the Launch Options field. Delete all text from that field and save the change. PUBG Support explains that many launch commands were recommended during early access and advises removing them so old commands do not cause issues. Do not replace them with a collection of flags copied from an old forum post. A blank field is the useful troubleshooting baseline.

  2. Verify the game files

In Steam, open Library, right-click PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, choose Properties, select Installed Files, and choose Verify integrity of game files. Steam checks for files that are corrupted, deleted, or missing and replaces them as needed. Let the process finish before launching the game again. A verification result that repairs files is evidence of an installation problem, not a measured FPS improvement. If no files are replaced, continue the sequence instead of repeating verification indefinitely.

  3. Install Windows updates and restart

Use Windows Update to install available updates, then restart the PC after installation completes. PUBG Support notes that Windows updates include services the game requires. A restart matters because an update that is downloaded but not applied has not finished the maintenance step. Record the update date if the symptom began immediately afterward.

  4. Update the graphics driver through the vendor’s official process

Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can contribute to performance and stability problems. Install the current driver using the official process for your NVIDIA or AMD GPU, then restart if the installer requests it. Record the previous driver version and the date of the change so you can identify whether the behavior changed afterward. The official guidance does not attach a guaranteed FPS increase to a particular driver version. Avoid installing multiple unofficial driver packages while diagnosing one game.

  5. Return CPU, RAM, and GPU clocks to manufacturer-recommended settings

For troubleshooting, disable overclocks and test at the hardware manufacturer’s recommended settings, using the system BIOS or the applicable vendor control. PUBG Support gives this caution in its General Crashing and Performance Guide, updated February 26, 2026: “While overclocking hardware (CPU, RAM, GPU) can be beneficial for in-game performance, running hardware outside the manufacturer’s recommended settings can cause multiple different issues such as memory or file corruption and for troubleshooting purposes should be removed (through the systems BIOS).” A stable factory configuration makes it easier to distinguish a game problem from an unstable tuning profile. If the issue disappears, keep factory settings while you complete the diagnosis instead of immediately reapplying the profile.

  6. Test disabling Fullscreen Optimizations

PUBG Support includes disabling Fullscreen Optimizations for TslGame.exe as an official troubleshooting option. Treat this as a test, not a universally beneficial setting. Apply the change, reproduce the same symptom, and keep it only if it addresses your specific problem without introducing another one. Note the result so you can undo it or report it accurately.

  7. Perform a clean reinstall only when the earlier steps fail

If corruption or installation problems remain, PUBG Support describes a clean uninstall and reinstall procedure. Its instructions include deleting game-associated files and clearing Steam’s download cache. Follow that guide exactly and back up anything you need before deleting files; do not casually remove folders based on a guessed path. Reinstalling is disruptive and consumes download time and storage, so use it after verification, Windows maintenance, driver maintenance, and the no-overclock test have failed to change the behavior. After reinstalling, test before adding custom launch options or tuning profiles.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use a controlled way to test graphics changes

The official sources reviewed do not provide current in-game graphics-setting recommendations, per-setting FPS effects, frame-time benchmarks, or a measured ranking of presets. That means claims such as “all low is always best” or a promise that one setting will add a fixed number of frames cannot be supported here.

You can still test your own configuration without turning guesses into facts:

  1. Choose a repeatable situation, such as the same training area or a similar in-game route, and note the symptom you are trying to reproduce.
  2. Change one graphics option or resolution-related control at a time. Do not change the whole preset, driver, launch options, and hardware clocks simultaneously.
  3. Play long enough to encounter the same type of hitch or slowdown, then record whether it improved, worsened, or stayed the same. Test more than one session when the symptom is intermittent.
  4. Restore the previous value if the change creates a new problem. Keep a short log of the setting, date, resolution, and result rather than relying on memory.

This method tells you what happens on your PC; it does not establish a universal result for other systems. If the symptom is connection delay rather than rendering, graphics experiments are unlikely to answer the underlying question. Do not turn a subjective improvement in one match into a promised FPS figure for every player.

Finding Next action What not to conclude
Below the published minimum for CPU, GPU, or RAM Address the deficient part or compare the cost of a compatible system with the published recommended tier. Do not infer a specific FPS gain from an upgrade.
Meets or exceeds the listed requirements, but files were repaired Retest after verification and keep the repair result in your notes. Do not assume every future stutter is a file-corruption problem.
Problem began after a driver or Windows change Complete the official update/restart process and document the result; if the issue persists, include the timing in a support request. Do not install multiple unrelated tweaks at once.
Issue disappears with factory clock settings Leave the system at manufacturer-recommended settings while troubleshooting and decide separately whether tuning is worth the stability trade-off. Do not treat an overclock as harmless simply because it worked in another game.
Rendering appears stable but actions are delayed Continue investigating the connection path and provide precise timing and symptoms to support. Do not promise that a GPU upgrade, registry edit, DNS change, or VPN will fix it.

If none of the findings matches, repeat the symptom description in plain language and test one official step at a time. “The game feels bad” is not enough to choose between a hardware comparison, file repair, or a connection investigation.

When to contact PUBG Support

If the official sequence does not resolve the problem, contact PUBG Support with information that lets the team reproduce and classify it. Include:

  • When the issue began and whether it followed an update, installation, driver change, or hardware-tuning change.
  • A specific description: consistently low FPS, intermittent frame drops or stutter, crashes, or connection delay.
  • Any exact error message.
  • Your DxDiag information.
  • Relevant crash dumps, when available.
  • The troubleshooting steps you completed and what changed after each one.

For a support request, “PUBG lags” is less useful than a timeline such as “stutter started after a driver update; file verification repaired files; factory clocks and a restart did not change it.” Attach the requested diagnostics rather than deleting them during a cleanup attempt. Mention whether Fullscreen Optimizations was tested and whether the problem occurs in every session or only under particular conditions.

Common mistakes that waste troubleshooting time

  • Keeping old launch flags: Early-access commands can remain in Steam long after their original purpose. Clear the field before testing anything else.
  • Changing many variables at once: A new preset, driver, overclock, registry edit, and reinstall performed together cannot tell you which action mattered.
  • Confusing a requirement with a benchmark: The 144-FPS statement applies to the recommended tier “in most situations,” not to every map, scene, monitor, or graphics configuration.
  • Using competitive hardware as a minimum: PUBG Support describes the competitive configuration as a high-FPS, high-refresh recommendation, not a required setup.
  • Deleting installation folders casually: The clean-reinstall process includes specific file deletion and Steam cache steps. Follow the official procedure instead of guessing which folders are safe.
  • Expecting a universal setting or command: The cited sources contain no controlled measurements for individual graphics settings, launch commands, registry edits, or fixed FPS gains.
  • Buying before checking compatibility: A new GPU may require adequate power, space, and system support. Compare the full cost with a suitable system and confirm that the purchase addresses a rendering limitation rather than connection delay.
  • Calling every hitch “internet lag”: A frame-time pause and a delayed server response can feel similar. Classify the symptom before changing network or graphics settings.

What a successful diagnosis looks like

A useful outcome is more precise than “the game feels better.” You should be able to state which category fits: the PC was below a published baseline; verification repaired installation files; Windows or the graphics driver was updated; the issue changed when overclocks were removed; Fullscreen Optimizations affected the symptom; or rendering remained stable while the actual problem was connection delay. That classification determines whether further game maintenance, a hardware comparison, or a support case is appropriate.

Use PUBG Support’s requirements and troubleshooting guidance as boundaries: they identify supported baselines and a safe order of maintenance, but they do not promise a particular frame rate or prescribe a single best graphics preset for every PC. Keep your notes, change one variable at a time, and avoid treating an anecdotal improvement as a universal guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

What FPS should PUBG’s recommended PC specifications deliver?

PUBG Support says the recommended tier is intended to run the game at 144 FPS in most situations. That wording is qualified: it is not a guarantee for every map, scene, resolution, monitor, or graphics configuration.

Do I need the listed competitive configuration to play competitively?

No. The Core i9-9900K, 32 GB RAM, and RTX 2060 Super or RX 5700 configuration is described as suitable for high FPS and high-refresh monitors, not as a requirement for competitive play.

Will installing PUBG on an SSD increase FPS?

The published support material lists storage capacity and installation troubleshooting, but it does not state that an SSD increases PUBG’s frame rate. Do not buy storage as a guaranteed FPS fix.

Should I use PUBG launch options copied from a guide?

For troubleshooting, remove all text from Steam’s Launch Options field. PUBG Support says many commands were early-access recommendations and advises clearing them so obsolete flags do not cause issues.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can overclocking fix PUBG stutter?

PUBG Support acknowledges that overclocking can benefit performance, but says hardware outside manufacturer-recommended settings can cause issues such as memory or file corruption. Remove CPU, RAM, and GPU overclocks while diagnosing, then evaluate stability separately.

What information should I send PUBG Support?

Provide when the issue began, what changed beforehand, a precise symptom description, any exact error message, DxDiag information, relevant crash dumps, and the steps you completed with their results. Distinguish low FPS or stutter from connection delay.

Is a GPU or RAM upgrade automatically the best lag fix?

Only consider an upgrade after comparing your actual parts with PUBG’s published minimum and recommended tiers. A component below a baseline may justify investigation, but the official material provides no guaranteed FPS gain, current best-value model, or proof that an upgrade fixes network latency.

The Bottom Line

Start with diagnosis, not a tweak: separate rendering problems from connection delay, compare your hardware with PUBG’s published baselines, clear old Steam launch options, verify files, update Windows and the GPU driver, and test at factory clock settings. Use Fullscreen Optimizations and a clean reinstall only as controlled troubleshooting steps. PUBG’s 144-FPS statement applies to recommended hardware in most situations, not every PC, and no listed setting or upgrade comes with a guaranteed gain.
