The most reliable way to make an MSI Claw last longer is to lower its power target, reduce screen brightness, and lighten each game’s workload. Open MSI Center M and select the lowest-power scenario that still feels responsive, choose Windows’ most efficiency-oriented power mode, dim the display, and then adjust demanding games individually. Keep BIOS, firmware, and drivers current through MSI Center M. If the Claw loses charge while sleeping, investigate standby behavior separately; if maximum capacity has fallen, calibration can improve reporting but cannot restore worn-out cells.
Exact scenario names and available controls vary by Claw model and MSI Center M version. The settings below are therefore a sequence to follow, not a promise of a fixed number of extra minutes. MSI’s published material does not provide a controlled runtime gain for any individual setting.
Start with a lower-power device profile
Use the system-level controls first, because they reduce power demand across games and Windows. MSI’s Claw walkthrough describes scenario choices that include Super Battery for extended use, but a newer or different Claw may show different names. Select the most economical option available on your device, then check the result in a game you actually play.
Select a scenario in MSI Center M
- Press the MSI button to open MSI Center M, or launch the app from Windows.
- Open the scenario or performance section. Choose Super Battery or the lowest-power scenario offered for your model when endurance matters more than frame rate.
- Play for several minutes and watch for symptoms of an overly restrictive profile, such as unstable frame pacing, delayed input, or a frame rate below your target.
- If a game becomes unpleasant, move up one scenario level rather than returning immediately to the highest-performance mode.
Lower power limits can reduce processor and graphics performance. That is the intended trade-off: less energy per moment in exchange for fewer frames or slower game workloads. Scenario labels and behavior can change with MSI Center M updates, so follow the label currently shown on the Claw rather than an old screenshot or version-specific guide.

Choose an efficiency-oriented Windows mode
In Windows, open Settings > System > Power & battery and select the most efficiency-oriented power mode presented by your installation. Microsoft can change the wording between Windows releases, so use the option that prioritizes efficiency or battery rather than best performance. If MSI Center M applies a device scenario and Windows applies a separate power mode, verify both: one does not necessarily replace the other.
Reduce the display and accessory load
- Lower brightness to the minimum that remains comfortable indoors. A bright panel is a constant load even when a game is paused.
- Turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth only when you genuinely do not need the connection. MSI’s general battery guidance recommends disabling unused wireless radios and removing peripherals; on a handheld, do not disconnect a controller, headset, or network that you are actively using.
- Unplug USB accessories, external drives, lighting devices, and receivers when they are idle. A peripheral can draw power continuously or prevent the system from entering a deeper idle state.
- Close launchers, browsers, recording tools, and overlays that are not needed for the current session. Check the Windows taskbar and system tray after closing a game.
These changes are reversible. Keep a comfortable brightness and the connections you need; an aggressive profile that makes the Claw awkward to use is not a useful everyday profile.
Understand the trade-offs

Tune the game instead of searching for one universal setting
GPU load differs dramatically between games. MSI’s Claw-series gaming-settings FAQ recommends per-game display settings and states that no single configuration suits every title. A menu-heavy indie game, a competitive 3D game, and a graphically intensive open-world game can all need different compromises.

- Launch the game on your normal profile and note whether the current frame rate, image quality, and fan noise are acceptable. You do not need a formal benchmark; a repeatable save area or short match is enough.
- Set a lower frame-rate target or frame-rate cap if the game allows it. Rendering frames the display cannot use wastes energy and creates heat.
- If the frame rate is still higher than necessary, lower resolution or render scale. Use the game’s own scaling control when available so menus remain readable.
- Reduce expensive effects such as shadows, volumetric lighting, reflections, ambient occlusion, view distance, or anti-aliasing. Change one group at a time so you can identify the setting that matters to you.
- Retest the same scene. Keep the change only if the visual loss is acceptable; otherwise restore it and try a different setting.
Balance image quality and power demand
A lower frame-rate target usually saves more power than lowering a setting that has little effect on the GPU in that particular title. Conversely, a game that is already GPU-bound may benefit more from a lower render scale or effects preset. There is no safe universal order for every engine, which is why MSI’s guidance emphasizes per-game tuning.

Do not copy a high-performance configuration from MSI’s documentation and assume it is a battery configuration. MSI also documents settings intended to maximize game performance; those can increase power use. For battery-focused play, start with a modest target and raise quality only when the Claw remains comfortable and the remaining charge justifies it.
Save profiles by situation
Keep a battery-oriented profile for travel and a higher-performance profile for outlet play. Record the frame-rate cap, resolution or render scale, major effects preset, and MSI Center M scenario for each demanding game. This prevents repeatedly changing several controls and makes it easier to identify which compromise you prefer.
Install current BIOS, firmware, and drivers
MSI’s Claw FAQ recommends using current, model-specific BIOS and drivers when optimizing the device. Updates can alter power management, graphics behavior, sleep handling, or compatibility, but MSI does not publish a guaranteed battery-life increase for a particular update.

Use MSI Center M’s update flow
- Open MSI Center M.
- Go to News and Updates.
- Select Scan and wait for the list for the exact Claw model.
- Read the item names and release notes, then install the offered BIOS, firmware, chipset, graphics, or other driver updates that apply to your device.
- Keep the Claw connected to its charger during firmware work, close running games, and do not interrupt a restart or update screen.
Use the model-specific packages MSI presents rather than an old version number copied from a forum post. If an update introduces a new scenario label or changes behavior, recheck the MSI Center M and Windows settings described above.

Investigate battery loss during sleep separately
A Claw that loses charge while you are not playing has a different problem from a Claw that simply consumes power quickly in a game. First determine whether the loss occurs during active use, ordinary sleep, or a long period in a bag.
Run a simple idle test
- Charge the Claw to a known level and note the percentage.
- Close games and external launchers. Disconnect accessories you do not need.
- Put the device to sleep for a short, repeatable interval, then wake it and record the new percentage.
- Repeat with the Claw powered off or hibernating, if those options are available, for a longer interval.
This is a comparison, not a laboratory measurement. A small percentage display change can reflect rounding, temperature, or a battery gauge update. A large, repeatable drop while the device is unused points you toward sleep and background activity rather than game graphics settings.
Review Windows sleep and power behavior
MSI’s sleep-mode battery-drain FAQ explains that Modern Standby can continue using power to preserve connectivity and recommends Hibernate for longer idle periods in applicable notebooks. The cited guidance covers notebooks with 11th-generation Intel CPUs or later; it does not establish the exact standby implementation of every Claw model. Check which sleep states and hibernation options your Claw actually offers.
- For a short break, sleep may be convenient if the observed drain is acceptable.
- For an overnight break, travel, or storage in a bag, use Hibernate when supported and appropriate.
- For the smallest possible idle draw, shut the Claw down completely. This sacrifices resume convenience.
- In Windows power settings, review screen, sleep, and hibernate timers. A setting that keeps the screen or network active can look like battery drain even when no game is open.
If the Claw wakes in a case, check for a button being pressed, a connected accessory sending input, or a setting that allows wake events. Remove accessories and repeat the idle test before concluding that the battery itself is faulty.

Separate runtime from battery health
Shorter play time can result from higher power demand, idle drain, inaccurate reporting, or an aged battery. Power-saving settings address demand; they cannot repair chemical deterioration.
What calibration can and cannot do
MSI’s battery-health information describes calibration as a way to help when reported battery life shortens and maximum capacity appears to decline. Calibration can improve the gauge’s estimate by allowing a full charge-and-discharge measurement. It cannot restore capacity that has already been lost through normal aging or damage.
The Claw guide recommends calibration every three months for devices that provide the feature. Treat that as vendor guidance, not a requirement for every model. Follow the calibration procedure exposed by your Claw and keep the device connected to reliable power when the instructions require it. Do not interrupt the process or use a generic battery utility that conflicts with MSI’s controls.
When the symptom suggests hardware or support
- The percentage falls unusually fast even in a light game and at low brightness.
- The Claw shuts down while Windows still reports substantial charge.
- The battery will not charge, stops at an unexpected level, becomes unusually hot, or shows swelling.
- Capacity remains abnormal after current firmware, a controlled idle test, and an appropriate calibration.
For charging faults, abnormal heat, swelling, or persistent reporting errors, stop using the device if it is unsafe and follow MSI support instructions. Do not treat battery replacement as a routine optimization step without model-specific diagnosis.

Use compatible external power when you are away from an outlet
A model-compatible USB-C charger or power bank can extend a session by supplying power while you play or by allowing a quick top-up during a break. Verify the exact Claw model’s input requirements, USB-C power behavior, cable capability, and the accessory’s output before buying. Headline wattage alone does not prove compatibility.
MSI’s Claw walkthrough states: “It has a fast charging function that can power up 50% of your battery in a snap. Just plug it in for 30 minutes and you’re good to go.” MSI does not give test conditions in that passage, so treat 50% in 30 minutes as the manufacturer’s statement, not a guaranteed result for every model, charger, temperature, or usage pattern. Charging while a demanding game is running can also change the rate compared with charging while idle.
Use a practical profile for each situation

These are starting points, not promises about a particular number of hours. Adjust the game profile first when one title is responsible for most of the drain.

The battery drops quickly while playing
- Confirm the screen is not brighter than necessary.
- Select a lower MSI Center M scenario and Windows efficiency mode.
- Cap the game’s frame rate, then lower render scale or costly effects.
- Close overlays, browsers, and launchers that are not required.
- Install model-specific updates through MSI Center M’s News and Updates scan.
If the same rapid drain occurs in a light game after these checks, compare it with an idle test and inspect battery-health symptoms rather than continually lowering image quality.
The battery drops while sleeping
- Repeat the controlled sleep test with accessories removed.
- Check whether the Claw supports hibernation and compare it with sleep.
- Review Windows sleep, screen, network, and wake settings.
- Use hibernation or a full shutdown for long idle periods if the comparison shows materially lower loss.
The percentage seems inaccurate
- Install current firmware and drivers.
- Use the vendor-supported calibration feature if your model provides it.
- Observe whether the reported capacity stabilizes over subsequent charge cycles.
- Escalate persistent shutdowns, charging faults, heat, or swelling to MSI support.
Simple maintenance checklist
- Before a trip: update through MSI Center M, lower brightness, select an efficiency profile, and remove unnecessary peripherals.
- Before launching a demanding game: choose its saved frame-rate and quality profile rather than the highest global setting.
- After a long break: use hibernation or shutdown if sleep testing shows unacceptable drain.
- Every three months: consider MSI-recommended calibration only if the Claw exposes that function and the battery gauge appears inaccurate.
- When buying a charger or power bank: verify model-specific USB-C input and output requirements instead of relying on a brand or wattage headline.
The durable approach is to match power use to the workload: lower the device profile and display load first, tune each game second, keep official software current, and diagnose sleep drain and battery health as separate problems.
