To make a POCO phone last longer, first open Settings and inspect Battery or Battery usage so you can identify the actual drain. Then lower screen brightness, use a lower refresh rate when available, remove unnecessary background activity, and select an appropriate battery-saving mode. Weak signal, demanding apps, heat, initial setup, and work performed after a system update can also raise consumption temporarily. If severe drain continues after these checks, arrange an inspection through local Xiaomi or POCO after-sales service.
The right fix depends on what is consuming power. A gaming app, a bright 90 Hz display, a poor mobile signal, and a background process after an update require different remedies. Changing every setting at once makes it difficult to find the cause and can disable notifications or features you rely on. Work through the steps below in order, keeping the settings that solve the problem without creating new inconveniences.
Start with the Battery usage screen
Before changing anything, find the largest consumers on your particular model and software version.

- Open Battery, Battery & performance, or a similarly named battery section.
- Choose Battery usage, Power usage, or the screen that lists consumption by app and component.
- Review the period shown and note apps, screen use, mobile network, Wi-Fi, location, or other components that are unusually high.
- Search Settings for
Batteryif the labels or path on your POCO do not match these names.
Xiaomi’s support guidance specifically recommends the Battery page for identifying power-hungry apps. A high position in the list is not automatically a problem: a navigation app can use substantial power while you are actively navigating, and the screen can legitimately be the largest consumer on a phone used heavily. Look for activity that is disproportionate to how you used the phone, continues when you are not using the app, or belongs to an app you no longer need.

- One app dominates: check whether it was used for a long session, then update it, remove unnecessary background access, or uninstall it if the activity is not needed.
- Screen dominates: reduce brightness and refresh rate before changing app permissions.
- Mobile network dominates: compare use in a location with stronger reception and investigate network or SIM-related causes.
- Several apps rise after setup or an update: allow time for temporary synchronization and indexing to finish, while watching for abnormal heat or continuing drain.
Make the display use less power
The display is often the easiest place to trade a little visual intensity for longer endurance. Xiaomi states that high brightness and a high refresh rate increase consumption. Its POCO C61 support explanation says, “High brightness and 90Hz refresh rate provide a better visual experience, however, they increase power consumption.” Those are vendor statements about the direction of the effect, not a promise of a particular number of extra hours.
Lower brightness and use automatic brightness thoughtfully
Reduce brightness to the lowest level that remains comfortable in your surroundings. Automatic brightness can prevent the panel from staying unnecessarily bright when ambient light changes, but check its behavior in your normal locations. If it repeatedly chooses a level that is brighter than you need, lower it manually rather than leaving the phone at maximum output.
Choose 60 Hz or the lower available refresh rate
Open Settings and search for Refresh rate, or look under a display section such as Display or Display & brightness. Select 60 Hz or the lowest available option when battery life matters more than the smoother scrolling of a higher rate. Xiaomi’s general battery FAQ says, “A high screen refresh rate can cause rapid battery drain.” Not every POCO offers the same choices; some models may show 60 Hz and a higher value, while others may use different labels or adaptive behavior.
Turn off display features you do not use
Review features such as an always-on display, sunlight mode, and extra visual effects. Xiaomi lists always-on display and sunlight mode among settings that can contribute to consumption. Disable them only if their convenience is not worth the additional power for you. Haptic feedback is another optional load identified in Xiaomi’s troubleshooting guidance; reducing or disabling vibration for taps and keyboard input can help if you do not need it.

Control background apps without breaking important notifications
Background restrictions can save power, but an aggressive restriction may delay messages, stop synchronization, or interrupt an ongoing task. Use the Battery usage list to target apps that consume power unnecessarily instead of applying the strictest setting to every app.
Restrict apps that do not need to work in the background
Open an app’s battery controls from its entry in the Battery usage screen, or open Settings > Apps, select the app, and look for battery or background-activity controls. The exact labels vary by HyperOS or MIUI version. Choose a restricted or optimized option for apps that only need to work when you open them, and remove permissions or automatic startup that you do not use.
Keep background access for services that must deliver timely alerts, upload work, track a workout, provide navigation, or maintain a connection. Test an app after changing its policy: if notifications arrive late or an upload stops, restore the less restrictive option for that app rather than weakening the whole phone’s power policy.

Understand automatic app closing
On the POCO M6, Xiaomi explains that system background management may automatically close applications to control memory and power. This behavior is part of the phone’s management policy, not proof that the battery is defective. If a particular app must remain active, look for that app’s autostart, battery, or background permission and allow the needed behavior. The trade-off is that exempting more apps can increase consumption.

Use Battery saver modes for the situation
Battery saver modes are useful when you need predictable extra time, but they work by limiting activity and, in some cases, performance or location functions. Select the least restrictive mode that meets your immediate need.

For the POCO F6, Xiaomi documents modes named Ultimate, Balanced, Battery saver, and Ultra battery saver. That model-specific documentation should not be read as a promise that another POCO has the same names or menu path. Search Settings for Battery mode or Battery saver if you cannot find the controls shown in a guide for a different model. Turn a restrictive mode off again when you need normal background work, location, or performance.
Check network conditions and radio use
A phone working in a weak-signal area may use more power while maintaining communication with the network. Xiaomi identifies poor network conditions as a possible reason for rapid drain. Compare ordinary use in a place with stable reception, such as a strong Wi-Fi connection or a location where your mobile signal is normally good. This is an observation to help narrow the cause, not a controlled measurement of battery performance.

- When you do not need mobile connectivity, use the phone’s normal airplane-mode control rather than leaving it searching continuously; remember that this also disables calls and mobile data until you restore the connections you need.
- Do not disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, location, or mobile data indiscriminately. Remove only the radios and permissions that are unnecessary for the way you use the phone.
Account for demanding use, heat, and temporary activity
High-load apps
Games, camera recording, video calls, navigation, hotspot use, and other processor- or radio-intensive tasks can consume charge quickly. Check whether the high-use period in Battery usage matches one of these activities. Lowering in-app graphics or frame-rate settings, ending a hotspot session, or closing navigation when you arrive can reduce ongoing load while preserving the app when you actually need it.

Initial setup and post-update work
Xiaomi’s troubleshooting pages note that a newly set-up phone can perform synchronization, indexing, app installation, and other background work. Similar activity can occur after a system update. During this period, higher consumption and warmth may be temporary. Keep the phone connected to a reliable charger when appropriate, install pending app updates, and observe whether usage settles after the background work has completed. If severe drain continues well beyond the setup or update period, return to the Battery usage investigation instead of assuming it is normal.
Temperature
Use the phone within ordinary operating conditions and avoid leaving it in a hot car, direct sun, or another place where heat builds up. High-load use while charging can also make the phone feel warmer. Temperature alone does not identify a failed battery, but persistent heat together with rapid loss, shutdowns, swelling, or other physical changes warrants stopping use and seeking professional advice.
A practical troubleshooting sequence for unusually fast drain
Use this order when you are asking, “Why is my POCO battery draining so fast?” It preserves evidence and avoids disabling useful functions prematurely.
- Record the situation. Note when the drain began, what changed, whether the phone was recently set up or updated, and whether the problem occurs during use, standby, charging, or only in a particular location.
- Inspect Battery usage. Identify the leading app or component and compare it with what you actually did during that period.
- Apply one targeted change. For display drain, lower brightness or refresh rate. For an unnecessary app, restrict its background activity. For a high-load task, end or reduce that task.
- Check essential functions. Confirm that notifications, navigation, uploads, calls, and other activities you depend on still work after the change.
- Consider the network. Repeat ordinary use where reception is stronger or on stable Wi-Fi, if practical, and compare the Battery usage pattern.
- Allow temporary setup or update work to settle. Do not judge a freshly updated or newly configured phone solely from its first period of background activity.
- Use Battery saver when you need immediate endurance. Select Ultra battery saver only when its restrictions are acceptable and essential apps are all you need.
- Recheck after the targeted change. If the same component remains unusually high without a matching activity, continue to the next diagnostic step rather than changing unrelated settings.
What not to assume
- Do not expect a guaranteed percentage improvement. The Xiaomi support material describes which settings raise consumption but does not provide comparable, current laboratory figures for the runtime gained from lowering brightness, switching refresh rate, or enabling a saver mode.
- Do not treat one busy app as proof of battery failure. Active navigation, gaming, recording, or a long video call can legitimately appear at the top of the list.
- Do not apply extreme restrictions to every app. The result may be delayed alerts, interrupted background work, or failed synchronization.
- Do not assume menu names from another POCO model are universal. Refresh-rate choices, battery modes, and app-management controls depend on the model and software build.
- Do not diagnose a failed battery from software symptoms alone. The available support guidance does not establish the cause, repair price, or likely outcome for an individual phone.
When to contact Xiaomi or POCO after-sales service
Arrange local after-sales inspection if severe drain remains after you have checked Battery usage, adjusted the relevant display or app settings, considered signal conditions, and allowed recent setup or update activity to settle. Xiaomi recommends contacting after-sales service for persistent problems. Service availability, inspection procedures, and any cost depend on your country and device; verify those details with the local support channel before sending the phone in.

When you contact support, provide the exact POCO model, software version, when the behavior began, the Battery usage entries you observed, recent updates or setup changes, and the conditions in which the drain is worst. If the phone is unusually hot, shuts down unexpectedly, or shows physical battery damage such as swelling, stop charging and using it and seek qualified service promptly.
Model-specific notes
POCO C61
Xiaomi’s C61 support explanation specifically links high brightness and the 90 Hz mode with greater power consumption. If your C61 offers those controls, test lower brightness and 60 Hz first. Do not infer that every POCO has the same 90 Hz option or the same display hardware.
POCO F6
The F6 documentation lists Ultimate, Balanced, Battery saver, and Ultra battery saver modes. Use the mode descriptions and trade-offs above as F6-specific guidance, and check your own phone’s labels before following a menu path.

POCO M6
Xiaomi’s M6 guidance discusses automatic closing of background applications. If an app needs timely notifications or uninterrupted work, review that app’s background and autostart permissions rather than assuming automatic closure is a hardware problem.
A sustainable everyday setup
For most owners, a sensible default is comfortable—not maximum—brightness, automatic brightness if it behaves well, the lower refresh rate when endurance is more important than smoothness, and background restrictions only for apps that do not need timely work. Keep essential notifications and services exempt, and use Battery saver for long days or travel. Revisit Battery usage after installing a new app or update so that a newly introduced drain is caught early.
The Bottom Line
Find the biggest consumer in Battery usage, make one targeted change, and preserve the background access and performance you genuinely need. Display settings, unnecessary app activity, saver modes, signal quality, and temporary post-update work explain many cases; persistent severe drain needs local Xiaomi or POCO service inspection rather than a guess about battery failure.
