Firefox can import Microsoft Edge bookmarks (called Favorites in Edge), saved logins and passwords, browsing history, and saved form history through its built-in desktop import wizard. Open Firefox Settings, choose Import Data in the browser-data section, select Microsoft Edge, choose the Edge profile and data categories, then select Import and Done. Firefox may ask for your computer’s system password while it reads protected Edge data.
The wizard does not promise a complete copy of every Edge preference. Treat “settings” as the supported browser data listed by Mozilla, not as a guarantee that extensions, appearance choices, search preferences, startup pages, or every other profile option will move.
What Firefox can import from Edge
Mozilla’s Edge-specific import workflow identifies four transferable categories:

Mozilla does not state that general browser preferences transfer. Plan to recreate items such as extensions, themes, startup behavior, search choices, permissions, and other personal preferences manually if you need them in Firefox.

Before you start
- Install and open the desktop version of Firefox on the computer that contains your Edge profile.
- Keep the Edge profile you want to copy on that same computer. If Edge has more than one profile, the wizard lets you choose which one to read.
- Decide which categories you actually want. You can import only bookmarks, only passwords, or any combination of the categories offered by the wizard.
- Have the computer’s system password available. Firefox can display an operating-system authentication prompt when it accesses protected Edge login data.
- If the labels in this guide differ slightly, use the equivalent command in your installed Firefox version. Mozilla notes that menu layout can vary by Firefox version and platform.
Method 1: Import through Firefox Settings
This is the most direct route because it starts in Firefox’s browser-data controls and exposes the Edge profile and category checkboxes in one wizard.
- Open Firefox.
- Open the application menu and select Settings.
- In Settings, locate the browser-data section and select Import Data.
- When Firefox asks for the source browser, choose Microsoft Edge.
- If more than one Edge profile is available, select the profile containing the Favorites, credentials, history, and form data you want.
- Select the data categories to bring over. The supported choices are bookmarks, saved logins and passwords, browsing history, and saved form history.
- Select Import and wait for the wizard to finish reading Edge.
- If the operating system asks you to authenticate, enter the computer’s system password and allow Firefox to continue.
- Select Done.
Do not close Firefox while the wizard is working. The time required depends on the amount of history, Favorites, form entries, and saved credentials in the selected Edge profile.
Method 2: Start from the Bookmarks Library
Firefox offers a second entry point that opens the same type of browser-import wizard. It is useful when you are already organizing bookmarks.

- In Firefox, open Bookmarks and choose Manage bookmarks.
- In the Bookmarks Library, open Import and Backup.
- Choose Import Data from Another Browser.
- Select Microsoft Edge as the source.
- Choose the Edge profile and the categories to import.
- Select Import, complete any system-password prompt, and then select Done.
The menu-bar route reaches the same function: press Alt to show Firefox’s menu bar temporarily, then choose File > Import from Another Browser. Firefox versions and operating systems can place these commands differently, so the Settings route is usually easier to find when the menu bar is hidden.

How to check the imported data
Check Favorites in the bookmarks area
Open the Bookmarks Toolbar or Bookmarks menu and look for the folder Firefox created for imported Edge Favorites. Open several folders and launch a few links to confirm that the expected profile was selected. If you imported more than once, look for additional import folders instead of assuming the second run replaced the first.
Check saved logins and passwords
Open Firefox’s saved-login view and search for several sites that were stored in Edge. Confirm both the site address and the username. A site may still ask you to sign in if the password was not selected, if the entry was stored in a different Edge profile, or if the site uses a sign-in method that is not represented by a conventional saved password.
Check history and form entries
Search Firefox history for pages you visited recently in Edge. Test a form on a familiar site only when you are comfortable revealing the imported entry; saved form history is separate from login credentials, so importing one does not prove that the other was imported.
Check what did not move
If your Favorites, passwords, history, and form entries are present but Firefox looks different, that is expected. Mozilla’s Edge-specific list does not promise a transfer of general browser preferences. Recreate unsupported preferences manually rather than repeating the import wizard.

What “settings” means in this migration
The title of this task often leads people to expect a full profile clone. Firefox’s documented Edge workflow is narrower. It names bookmarks, saved logins and passwords, browsing history, and saved form history; it does not say that every Edge setting is exported.
Use the import wizard for the four supported data types. Make a separate checklist for anything outside that list, such as:
- Installed extensions and their individual options.
- Firefox themes, toolbar arrangement, and appearance choices.
- Startup pages, new-tab behavior, and search-engine preferences.
- Per-site permissions, notification choices, and privacy exceptions.
- Edge-specific features or policies that have no Firefox equivalent.
This distinction prevents a misleading result: a successful import can bring over your working data while leaving the browser’s behavior at Firefox’s defaults.

Firefox’s general browser-import guidance provides a file-based fallback when the source browser is not offered in the list. Use the fallback for the specific data type it supports, not as a substitute for a complete Edge-profile migration.

Fallback for bookmarks: an HTML file
- In Edge, export your Favorites to an HTML bookmarks file.
- In Firefox, open the Bookmarks Library through Bookmarks > Manage bookmarks.
- Open Import and Backup and choose the command to import bookmarks from an HTML file.
- Select the exported file and let Firefox add the links to its bookmarks area.
HTML is a bookmarks format. It does not contain your Edge passwords, browsing history, saved form history, or general preferences.
Fallback for passwords: a CSV file
Mozilla separately documents importing login and password information from a CSV file through Firefox’s import workflow. Use this only for credentials:
- Export the required Edge login records to a CSV file using Edge’s password-management export command.
- Keep the CSV file on the local computer and protect it while it exists. A CSV normally contains readable credential fields rather than an encrypted browser profile.
- In Firefox, open its login-and-password import workflow and choose the CSV file.
- Confirm that the expected sites and usernames appear in Firefox’s saved-login store.
- Delete the CSV securely after verifying the import, and empty the operating system’s recycle or trash location if appropriate.
CSV import is not a complete browser migration format. It does not carry bookmarks, history, form history, extensions, or Firefox preferences.
Troubleshooting the Edge-to-Firefox import
Edge does not appear in the source-browser list
Use the HTML bookmark fallback for Favorites and the CSV workflow for login data. These are separate routes, so you may need to perform both if you want both categories. They do not recreate a complete Edge profile.

The wrong Favorites or passwords appeared
Run the wizard again and select the Edge profile that owns the data. Edge profiles keep separate Favorites, credentials, history, and form entries, so choosing another profile can look like a failed import even when Firefox completed the operation correctly.
Firefox asks for the system password
This prompt can occur because Edge protects stored credentials at the operating-system level. Authenticate with the computer password requested by your operating system. If you cannot authenticate, Firefox may be unable to read the protected login database; import bookmarks, history, or form data separately if those categories remain available.
Bookmarks imported but passwords did not
Check that saved logins and passwords were selected in the category list and that you chose the profile where they were stored. If the built-in route still cannot read them, use the documented CSV password-import fallback. Treat the CSV as sensitive, readable credential data and remove it after verification.

The import created duplicates
Firefox’s import process adds data to the existing profile. If you run it more than once, it can create another Favorites folder or add repeated records. Keep the folder containing the verified links, then remove unwanted duplicate bookmarks manually. Do not delete the original Edge data until you have confirmed that Firefox contains everything you need.
Menu names do not match this guide
Firefox changes layout across versions and platforms. Look for the equivalent of Settings > Import Data, or use Bookmarks > Manage bookmarks > Import and Backup > Import Data from Another Browser. Pressing Alt temporarily reveals the menu bar, where File > Import from Another Browser may be available.
Security and privacy considerations
Firefox does not automatically save or synchronize login data from another browser. You must explicitly choose to import it. Mozilla’s general guidance describes login information in the other browser as stored locally and in readable form to the importing process, which is why the operating system may require authentication.

- Verify an imported Favorites folder, several saved logins, representative history entries, and form data.
- Recreate unsupported preferences manually and remove any temporary export files.
