You can host Unturned for friends over Hamachi by running a listen server: you start the game, create a Hamachi virtual LAN, and have friends connect to the host’s Hamachi IPv4 address. This is not a dedicated server. The host’s Unturned session and Hamachi client must remain running while people play.
There is an important version limitation. The Unturned wiki currently describes this listen-server workflow as supported in classic Unturned, not Unturned version 3. Check the build you and your friends run before troubleshooting networking; Hamachi cannot make an unsupported game build expose a host.

Hamachi creates a virtual local network for the players in the same Hamachi network. Unturned then uses that virtual connection as though the players were on one local network. The host still launches and runs the game, so this arrangement is a listen server rather than a separately installed, always-on server.
- The host opens Unturned and chooses the in-game hosting option.
- Friends join the same password-protected Hamachi network.
- Friends connect to the host’s Hamachi IPv4 address, not the host’s ordinary internet address.
- The host’s game and Hamachi session need to stay active for the server to remain available.
If your build does not offer the required Host and Connect workflow, first confirm whether you are using classic Unturned. The wiki guidance summarized for this method says Unturned version 3 does not support these listen servers.

Before you begin
Confirm the game build
Have every player check the Unturned edition or build they are launching. The documented Hamachi method is for classic Unturned. If one player is on a different edition or build, settle that mismatch before changing firewall or Hamachi settings.
Install the same networking client
Install Hamachi on the host computer and on every computer that will join. Everyone must be able to sign in to Hamachi and see the same virtual network. Current download availability and plan limits are not established here, so obtain the client from its current official distribution channel and check its own sign-in requirements.
Prepare permissions
Be ready to allow inbound connections for both Hamachi and Unturned in the host computer’s firewall. A firewall can block the virtual-LAN traffic even when all players appear in the same Hamachi network.

Set up the Hamachi network
- Open Hamachi on the host. Complete its account or client setup so the host can create a network.
- Create a new network. Choose the option to create a network, then enter a network name and password.
- Record the credentials exactly. The Hamachi network name and password are case-sensitive, and spaces are significant. Copy them into a message rather than retyping them if possible.
- Share the network credentials privately. Send the exact name and password to the people who should play. They will use Hamachi’s join-network option to enter this network.
- Wait for each player to appear in the network. Do not move on to the game connection step until the host can see the intended friends as members of the same Hamachi network.
Start the Unturned listen server
1. Copy the host’s Hamachi IPv4 address
In Hamachi, right-click the host computer’s IP number and choose Copy IPv4 address. Keep this copied value available; friends will paste it into Unturned. Do not substitute the word Localhost, the host’s public internet address, or an address copied from another network adapter.
2. Open the hosting menu
Launch Unturned on the host and select Play, then Host. Configure the available game options for your session and click Host. The host is now running the game session that friends will join.
3. Keep the session available
Leave Unturned running while friends play. Keep Hamachi connected as well; closing or disconnecting it removes the virtual-LAN path that the other players use. Because this is a listen server, closing the host’s game ends the session for everyone.

How friends join through Hamachi
- Each friend opens Hamachi and chooses the option to join an existing network.
- They enter the host’s exact Hamachi network name and password, preserving capitalization and spaces.
- After they appear as members of that network, they launch Unturned.
- They select Play, then Connect.
- On the connection screen, they replace
Localhostwith the host’s copied Hamachi IPv4 address. - They submit the connection details and use the game password, if the host configured one.
The Hamachi network password and the Unturned game password are separate credentials. A player can successfully join the Hamachi network and still be rejected by the game if the in-game password is wrong.
Choose host options deliberately
The Host screen controls the game session itself. Set the map, player access and any password options that are shown in your build before clicking Host. Give friends the in-game password through a private channel if you set one; do not confuse it with the Hamachi network password.

- The exact Hamachi network name.
- The exact Hamachi network password.
- The host’s current Hamachi IPv4 address.
If the host reconnects to Hamachi and the displayed IPv4 value changes, send the new value to friends and have them replace the old address in Play > Connect.
Troubleshoot connection failures in order
Change one thing at a time and test again. The table below follows the failure points that matter most for this setup.

Check the firewall on the host
When Hamachi membership looks correct but the connection still fails, inspect the host firewall. Create or enable inbound allowances for Hamachi and Unturned, using the firewall’s current application and network-profile controls. After applying the rule, restart the host session and test with one friend before inviting everyone.

Use a minimal test session
For diagnosis, have one friend join the Hamachi network and attempt one connection while the host remains on the Host screen or in the newly started session. This isolates address and firewall problems from a larger group’s credential or build differences. Once that test succeeds, add the remaining players.

- It is host-dependent. There is no independent server process in the normal menu workflow. The host’s game session is the server.
- It is not persistent. Friends cannot reconnect after the host closes Unturned, and Hamachi must be connected again before a new session can be reached.
- It is build-dependent. The classic-versus-version-3 limitation takes priority over networking tweaks.
- It is credential-sensitive. Both Hamachi’s network credentials and any in-game password must be entered exactly.
- It is firewall-sensitive. A successful Hamachi login does not by itself guarantee that Unturned traffic is allowed through the host firewall.
These limits make the method suitable for a small group that plays while one person is present. If you need a server that continues running after the host leaves the game, this listen-server workflow is the wrong model; use a supported dedicated-server procedure for the specific Unturned build instead.
Legacy command-line route: use only as a fallback
An older Steam guide describes launching Unturned.exe with parameters such as -batchmode -nographics +secureserver/name, then editing the generated Commands file for the server name, map, port and password. It also says to leave the server window open and type shutdown to stop it. That guide is labeled “Partially Outdated,” so treat this as a legacy, dedicated-style fallback rather than the normal Hamachi listen-server procedure.
Do not switch to this route merely because a friend cannot connect through the menu. First verify the classic build, Hamachi network membership, the copied IPv4 address and the firewall. If you deliberately test the legacy route, keep a backup of any generated command file, use only parameters documented for your exact build, and expect menu labels, file names or supported options to differ.
