Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
To host an All the Mons Cobblemon server, first identify the exact pack release and its Minecraft version, loader, Java requirement, and server files. Then install that same release on a server, match every client dependency, allocate appropriate memory, open access safely, and test with another player before inviting a group.
Do not assume that a generic Cobblemon server or a different All the Mons release will work. Cobblemon is a Java Edition mod, not a Bedrock add-on, and the client and server must agree on the pack’s Minecraft version, Fabric or NeoForge loader, Cobblemon build, and required libraries.
What you need before installing anything
All the Mons is a modpack built around Cobblemon, so the pack’s own manifest controls the details that matter most. The exact All the Mons release manifest was not established in the available documentation; therefore, do not name or download a server jar, loader, Java version, or server-pack filename until you have opened the official project page for the release you intend to run.
Confirm the release manifest
Record these values in a note before you create a server directory:

- Loader: Fabric or NeoForge.
- Cobblemon version and any pinned modpack version.
- Required Java major version.
- Whether the maintainer publishes a dedicated server pack or installation script.
- The exact release number that every player must install.
Never combine a server pack from one release with client mods from another. Even small differences in a loader, library, datapack, or configuration can produce a missing-mod error, a registry mismatch, or a crash during startup.
Use Java Edition
Cobblemon is a Minecraft Java Edition mod. The official Cobblemon documentation states that it is not available for Bedrock Edition. Every player therefore needs a Java Edition installation and a launcher that can load the required modpack.
Choose a launcher for the client
Official Cobblemon documentation supports launchers such as Modrinth, Prism, and CurseForge. Install All the Mons through whichever launcher distributes the exact release you selected, then make sure every player chooses the same version rather than simply selecting the newest entry.
Which Minecraft and loader version should you use?
The official Cobblemon installation page currently identifies Minecraft 1.21.1 in its page content. That does not prove that every All the Mons release uses 1.21.1. Treat the All the Mons project page and its release manifest as the authority for your pack.
Fabric and NeoForge are different installations
Official Cobblemon distributions support Fabric and NeoForge. A Fabric server needs Fabric’s loader and dependencies; a NeoForge server needs NeoForge and the dependencies listed for that release. You cannot replace one loader with the other and expect the same mods to load.
| Item | Fabric path | NeoForge path |
|---|---|---|
| Loader | Fabric, at the version named by All the Mons | NeoForge, at the version named by All the Mons |
| Typical required library called out by official Cobblemon documentation | Fabric API | Kotlin for the Forge/NeoForge installation path |
| Server files | Use the matching All the Mons server package, or follow its documented procedure | Use the matching All the Mons server package, or follow its documented procedure |
| Can files be mixed? | No | No |
The dependency names above describe the official Cobblemon installation paths, not a guarantee that a particular All the Mons release includes only those libraries. Follow the pack manifest for the complete list.

Do you need a server pack?
A dedicated server pack is the safest option because it normally contains the server loader, mod set, configuration, and startup structure expected by the pack maintainer. Check the All the Mons release page for a download labelled server pack, dedicated server, server files, or a similar term.
If All the Mons publishes a server package
- Download the server package for the exact release and loader you recorded.
- Extract it into a new, empty server directory. Avoid nesting the real files several folders deep, because startup scripts and relative paths may then fail.
- Read the included README or installation script before launching. Some packs require a one-time installer or a specific Java executable.
- Start the server once, accept the Minecraft EULA when prompted, and stop it cleanly.
- Copy or verify the world, configuration, mods, and any required datapacks before inviting players.
If no server package is published
Do not copy the entire client instance blindly. Follow the All the Mons maintainer’s documented server procedure and remove client-only mods exactly as instructed. Client-only examples often include visual, minimap, menu, or performance features, but the pack maintainer—not a generic list—must decide what can be removed.
The official Cobblemon Fabric pack demonstrates that an official server package can exist and says that its server can connect with vanilla Cobblemon clients and servers. That fact confirms the distribution model, but it does not prove that All the Mons provides an equivalent package. Verify All the Mons separately.
Install the server step by step
1. Create an isolated server directory
Use a dedicated directory with enough free storage for the initial world, generated chunks, logs, backups, and future updates. Keep the server separate from your personal client instance so an accidental client update cannot overwrite server files.
2. Install the required Java version
Use the Java major version specified by the All the Mons release. If the manifest does not state it, stop and obtain that information from the maintainer rather than guessing. A server may start with an incompatible Java runtime and fail later with class-version, module, or library errors.
3. Place the matching server files
Extract the dedicated package or complete the maintainer’s installation procedure. Confirm that the directory contains the expected loader files, a mods directory, configuration files, and the startup entry point. Do not add unrelated mods before the unmodified pack starts successfully.

4. Perform the first launch
Use the included script when one is supplied. If the package instead provides a server jar, the general form is:
java -Xms3G -Xmx8G -jar <server-jar> nogui
The values in this example are not a universal All the Mons requirement. Set minimum and maximum memory according to the pack’s documentation and the machine’s available RAM; the server jar name must match the files you actually downloaded. A first launch commonly creates an EULA file and the initial configuration. Stop the process, make the required EULA choice, and launch again.

A successful startup should reach a listening state without repeated missing-mod, dependency, registry, or mixin errors. Read the first error in the log, not just the final “server stopped” line. Fix one dependency or version problem at a time, then restart.
How much RAM does an All the Mons server need?
Memory depends on the pack, view distance, world activity, and number of players. The official Cobblemon Fabric pack recommends at least 2.5 GB of RAM and says 3 GB or more gives best performance for that distribution. Those figures are Cobblemon pack guidance, not a confirmed All the Mons specification.
A community Cobblemon guide for a 1.21.1 NeoForge server starts at about 8 GB of dedicated memory. Treat that as a community starting point for a larger NeoForge setup, not as an official All the Mons requirement or a player-capacity guarantee.
| Reference point | Memory figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Official Cobblemon Fabric pack minimum recommendation | 2.5 GB | Minimum recommended by the 2026 pack listing; not an All the Mons sizing promise |
| Official Cobblemon Fabric pack performance recommendation | 3 GB or more | Recommended for best performance in that pack |
| Community 1.21.1 NeoForge guide | About 8 GB dedicated | Use only as a conservative starting point for a larger NeoForge installation |
Do not allocate all host memory to Java. Leave room for the operating system, file cache, monitoring, and other services. If the machine begins swapping, the server can lag even when the Java heap appears large. Increase memory only after checking logs and confirming that the pack and Java runtime are correct.

Self-host at home or use managed hosting?
Both approaches can work. The right choice depends on whether you value control or convenience more than the effort of maintaining networking and a Java installation.
| Decision factor | Home self-hosting | Managed Minecraft hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Uses an existing PC or server, but may require storage, networking, or upgrades | Usually recurring cost; verify the current plan and billing terms |
| Control | Full control of files, mods, configurations, backups, and operating system | Control depends on the host’s panel and policies |
| Public access | Requires firewall rules, router configuration, and a reachable address | Provider generally handles port exposure and the public endpoint |
| Resources | Limited by your CPU, RAM, storage, and internet connection | Limited by the selected plan; verify CPU, memory, storage, and location |
| Uptime | Depends on your power, hardware, operating system, and internet service | Depends on the provider’s infrastructure and policy |
| Support | You troubleshoot Java, loaders, mods, networking, and backups | Support scope varies; confirm that the exact All the Mons loader and release are supported |
When home hosting is sensible
- You already have a machine that can remain on while players connect.
- You are comfortable configuring a firewall and router.
- You want direct access to every file and configuration.
- The player group is small enough that your hardware and upload connection are adequate.
When managed hosting is simpler
- You do not want to expose or maintain a home network.
- You need a web control panel, automated restarts, or provider-managed Java selection.
- You want the host to handle the public endpoint and basic infrastructure.
- The provider explicitly supports the All the Mons release, loader, and server package you plan to use.
Cobblemon itself says it has no official server and points users toward public servers or hosting providers such as BisectHosting. That is not an endorsement of a particular All the Mons plan. Verify current pricing, locations, resource limits, backups, and pack-version support before paying.
Make a home server reachable safely
Allow the server through the operating-system firewall
Create an inbound rule for the port configured in the server’s properties file. Restrict the rule to the required protocol and avoid disabling the firewall entirely. If you change the server port, update the firewall rule to match.
Configure the router
Forward the same port from the router to the computer running the server. Give that computer a stable local address, preferably through a DHCP reservation, so the forwarding rule does not break after a reboot.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteShare the address privately
Give friends the public address and port through a private channel rather than posting it publicly. Never share router administrator credentials. If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, ordinary port forwarding may not work; use a provider-supported alternative or managed hosting instead of repeatedly changing settings.
Keep the server isolated
- Run the server under a non-administrator account where practical.
- Keep the operating system, Java runtime, loader, and mods updated according to the pack maintainer’s compatibility notes.
- Use whitelist and operator permissions deliberately.
- Do not install files from untrusted uploaders or unknown “optimization” packs.
Match every client to the server
Every player should install the identical All the Mons release, Minecraft version, loader, Cobblemon build, and required dependency set. A player using the right pack name but a different release can still be rejected during the handshake.

Common mismatch symptoms
- Incompatible mod or missing dependency: the client lacks a mod or library required by the server.
- Registry or network-channel mismatch: client and server contain different mod versions or configurations.
- Wrong loader: a Fabric client is attempting to join a NeoForge server, or the reverse.
- Wrong Minecraft version: the launcher profile does not match the server’s game version.
- Immediate crash on launch: the Java runtime or a client-only mod is incompatible with the selected pack.
Resolve these by exporting or documenting the server’s release, then have the player create a clean launcher instance from that exact release. Do not “fix” a mismatch by randomly deleting server mods; remove only files the pack maintainer identifies as client-only.
Backups and updates
What to back up
Before every update, stop the server cleanly and copy the complete world, dimensions, player data, configuration, datapacks, and server-specific scripts. Keep at least one backup away from the live server machine. A world backup without configuration can still lose the settings that define how the pack behaves.
Safe update sequence
- Announce downtime and stop the server.
- Copy the complete server directory or, at minimum, the world, dimensions, player data, configs, datapacks, and scripts.
- Record the current All the Mons, Minecraft, loader, Cobblemon, and Java versions.
- Read the target release notes for migrations or required removals.
- Install the matching server files in a separate directory or keep a restorable copy of the old directory.
- Update every client to the same release.
- Start the server and watch the log for migration or dependency errors.
- Join with a test account before reopening the server to everyone.
Never update only the server while friends continue using the old client pack. If the new release fails, stop the server and restore the pre-update directory and backup rather than experimenting on the only copy of the world.
Test the finished server
Use a second player or a separate test account. Local single-player testing cannot verify the network handshake or permissions experienced by another person.
- Confirm the player can connect using the intended address and port.
- Generate or enter a new area and verify that the world loads without repeated errors.
- Check that Pokémon spawn as expected and that their entities remain after a restart.
- Test a battle, capture, inventory transfer, and any pack-specific mechanics that players will use.
- Verify whitelist, operator, and ordinary-player permissions separately.
- Stop and restart the server, then confirm that world progress and player data persist.
- Restore a backup in a temporary directory to prove that the backup is usable.
Troubleshooting guide
The server will not start
Check Java first, then the loader version, then the first dependency or mod error in the log. Confirm that the server jar belongs to the recorded All the Mons release. Delete no files until you have a backup and have identified whether the file is client-only or required server-side.
Players are rejected during login
Compare the player’s Minecraft version, loader, All the Mons release, Cobblemon build, and dependency list with the server. Reinstalling the client into a clean profile is often faster than chasing a contaminated old instance.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The server is reachable locally but not from outside
Recheck the operating-system firewall, router forwarding destination, local address, configured port, and whether the internet connection uses carrier-grade NAT. Test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot, rather than relying only on a connection from inside the same LAN.
Gameplay lags or the server stops responding
Check available RAM, CPU load, disk space, and the server log before increasing Java memory. Lower view or simulation distance only after confirming that the pack’s configuration permits it, and avoid adding performance mods unless the maintainer lists them as compatible. The published 2.5 GB, 3 GB, and community 8 GB figures are reference points, not guarantees for a particular player count.
