Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
To host All the Mods 10: To the Sky, install the matching server pack for the current Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge release, run it with Java 21, allocate enough memory for your player count, accept the EULA, then configure access, backups and performance settings. The current CurseForge files page lists release ATM10SKY-2.1.0 and a corresponding server file; every player must use that same pack version.
For a small private world, plan on at least 10 GB allocated to the server for two to five players. Larger groups need approximately 12–14 GB for five to 15 players or 16 GB and above for more than 15 players. A home server gives you complete file control, while managed hosting removes most router, uptime and maintenance work.
What you are hosting
All the Mods 10: To the Sky is a skyblock modpack from ATMTeam. The current CurseForge listing identifies Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge and release ATM10SKY-2.1.0, with a matching server download. The listing recorded 3,584,250 downloads in 2026. Those details can change, so check the files page immediately before downloading and make the server and client selections from the same release row.
The server pack is not interchangeable with the client installation. The server archive contains the files and startup configuration intended for a dedicated instance; installing the ordinary client pack on a server commonly produces missing-file, loader or registry errors.

How much RAM and hardware you need
ATMTeam’s performance tip says to allocate at least 6–8 GB of RAM for optimal performance. The multiplayer guidance is more conservative and gives these planning bands:
| Concurrent players | Recommended server allocation | Planning notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2–5 | 10 GB | Suitable starting point for a small private world; leave additional memory for the operating system and other services. |
| 5–15 | 12–14 GB | Use the upper end when several players explore, automate or generate new terrain at once. |
| 15+ | 16 GB or more | Expect greater CPU, storage and network demands; test the actual workload before opening the server widely. |
The 6–8 GB figure is a minimum-oriented allocation tip, not a guarantee for a busy multiplayer instance. Allocate the amount to the Java server process, and ensure the machine has extra physical memory for the operating system, backups and monitoring. More RAM cannot compensate for a weak processor or slow storage.

CPU, storage and network priorities
- CPU: Prefer strong single-thread performance. Modded Minecraft’s tick loop and many automation systems can become limited by one busy core even when total CPU usage appears low.
- Storage: Use an NVMe SSD. World generation, chunk loading, mod data and backups create many small reads and writes that are noticeably slower on mechanical disks.
- Network: Provide reliable upstream capacity and low latency. Larger groups and simultaneous exploration increase the amount of state the server must send.
- Machine: A high-memory desktop or a dedicated always-on computer is preferable to a laptop that sleeps, throttles or changes networks.
Self-hosting or managed hosting?
Choose self-hosting when you want direct control of files, JVM arguments, backups and update timing and are comfortable maintaining a router and firewall. Choose a managed service when you want a web panel, persistent uptime and simpler recovery without exposing a home network.
| Consideration | Self-hosted PC or dedicated machine | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Cost model | Hardware and electricity are mostly upfront or ongoing household costs. | Recurring monthly charge; compare the included RAM, storage and backup limits rather than headline price alone. |
| Control | Full access to server files, Java options, logs and update timing. | Control depends on the panel; confirm console and file access before ordering. |
| Networking | You must assign a stable local address, configure port forwarding and allow the server through the firewall. | The provider normally supplies a public address and handles the data-center network. |
| Maintenance | You perform operating-system updates, backups, restarts and troubleshooting. | The provider handles the platform, but you still manage the modpack, world and configuration. |
| Performance | Depends on your CPU, NVMe storage, memory and home connection. | Compare single-thread CPU performance, guaranteed memory and the physical location of the server. |
| Recovery | You design and test your own backup and rollback process. | Verify how often backups run, how long they are retained and whether you can restore a specific world copy. |
For a managed plan, require explicit support for Java 21, NeoForge, custom CurseForge server packs, at least 10 GB of RAM and NVMe storage. Also check player limits, console access, latency to your group, the modpack update workflow and the quality of technical support.
Prepare the server before installing the pack
- Choose a machine or plan with the RAM, CPU, NVMe storage and network capacity appropriate for your player count.
- Install a 64-bit Java 21 runtime and make sure the command used by the startup script resolves to that version.
- Create a dedicated directory for this server. Do not mix it with another Minecraft instance or your personal client files.
- Decide where backups will live. Use a different disk or machine from the live world directory so a disk failure or mistaken deletion does not remove both copies.
- Choose a port that does not conflict with another service, and decide whether the server will be private (whitelist) or open to a known community.
Install the ATM10 To the Sky server pack
1. Download the exact server archive
Open the current All the Mods 10: To the Sky files page on CurseForge. Select the release you intend to run and download its server file, not the ordinary client profile. At the time covered by the current listing, that means Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge and ATM10SKY-2.1.0. Record the filename and version so every player can install the same release.

2. Extract into a dedicated folder
On Windows, extract the archive to a path such as a dedicated ATM10SkyServer folder. On Linux, create a directory owned by the account that will run the service and extract the archive there. Avoid protected operating-system directories that prevent the server from writing logs, configs or world data.
3. Verify Java 21
Open a terminal or command prompt in the server folder and run:
java -version
The output should identify Java 21. If it reports an older release, install Java 21 or edit the startup script so it points to the Java 21 executable. Do not assume that the Java version used by your desktop launcher is the one available to the server script.
4. Perform the first launch
On Windows, run startserver.bat. On Linux, run startserver.sh; if the shell reports that the file is not executable, grant execute permission and run it again:
chmod +x startserver.sh
./startserver.sh
The first boot creates configuration files and normally takes approximately three to five minutes. It may appear idle while libraries and world data are being prepared.

5. Accept the Minecraft EULA
Stop the process if it remains open, then open the generated eula.txt. Read the EULA and, only if you agree, change the setting to:
eula=true
Save the file and run the same startup script again. The server will not complete startup while the EULA setting remains false.
Configure server.properties for your group
Stop the server before editing configuration files, then open server.properties in a plain-text editor. Make one change at a time and keep a copy of the working file.
Set capacity and distances
Set max-players to the number your memory and CPU can actually support, rather than advertising more slots than the machine can handle. Use view distance 8–10 and simulation distance 6–8 as starting values, then adjust after observing tick performance with your real player load. Lower values reduce the amount of terrain that must be loaded and simulated around each player; raise them only when the server remains responsive.

Keep configuration changes reversible
Before changing distances, player limits or mod settings, copy server.properties and any affected configuration file. If a setting causes startup errors or unexpected behavior, stop the server, restore the previous copy and start again.
Make the server reachable safely
Test locally first
Join from the same machine or local network before sharing the address publicly. A successful local connection proves that the pack, Java runtime and server process work; it also separates game configuration problems from router and firewall problems.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Configure the home network
- Give the server computer a stable address on your local network, using your router’s reservation feature or an equivalent method.
- Allow the Java server process through the operating-system firewall on the port selected in
server.properties. - Create a router port-forwarding rule from the chosen external port to the server computer’s local address and the same server port.
- Test from a connection outside your home network, such as a phone hotspot. Testing only from inside the network can hide forwarding errors.
- Share the public address only with intended players, and keep the whitelist enabled for a private world.
Router menus differ by manufacturer, so use the labels for port forwarding, NAT or virtual server rules on your device. If your internet service uses carrier-grade NAT, inbound forwarding may not work; a managed host or a provider-supported network solution may then be simpler.

Back up the live world correctly
Stop the server cleanly before making a full backup so region files and player data are flushed. Copy the world directory, server properties, mod configuration and any scripts you have edited to storage outside the live server folder. Keep more than one dated generation and periodically verify that an archive can be opened.
Update without losing a working instance
- Announce downtime and stop the server.
- Create a dated backup of the entire working instance, especially the world directory and configuration.
- Read the target release notes and download the matching server file and client release.
- Install the update in a new folder or preserve the old folder as a rollback copy.
- Start the updated instance, accept any new configuration prompts deliberately and check the console for errors.
- Join with a test account, inspect the world and confirm that essential machines, inventories and dimensions load correctly.
- Only then invite the rest of the group to update their clients.
Always back up before a modpack update. If the new release damages a world or fails to start, stop it, restore the dated copy and return clients to the previous matching pack version.

Performance tuning after players join
Observe the server under the workload that matters: several players exploring different areas, loading chunks and using automated systems at the same time. If tick performance degrades, use this order of operations:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Confirm that the server is running Java 21 and has the intended memory allocation.
- Reduce
view-distancetoward 8 andsimulation-distancetoward 6 if they are higher. - Lower
max-playersto the number the hardware can sustain. - Move the world to NVMe storage if it is on a slower disk.
- Check whether a single player’s exploration or an automation area causes the slowdown, then pause or relocate the offending workload.
- If the group consistently exceeds the published RAM band, add memory only after confirming that the CPU and storage are not the limiting factors.
Do not use maximum distances or unlimited slots as a quality setting. A smaller, stable simulation is better than a large world that produces delayed block updates, rubber-banding and timeouts.
Troubleshooting common failures
The server closes immediately
- Run
java -versionand correct the runtime if it is not Java 21. - Check that
eula=trueis present ineula.txtafter you have read and accepted the EULA. - Confirm that you launched the script from the extracted server directory, where its libraries and configuration files exist.
- Read the final console lines for a port conflict, missing file or permission error before changing anything.
Players receive mod or registry mismatch errors
Make the client and server versions identical. Compare the exact release identifier, Minecraft version and NeoForge loader. Do not let one player use a newer client profile against an older server pack.
Players cannot connect from outside the house
First test local joining. If local access works, check the firewall rule, the router forwarding destination, the selected port and whether the internet connection uses carrier-grade NAT. A changed local address can silently invalidate a forwarding rule.
The world lags when several people explore
Check memory against the player bands, verify NVMe storage and lower view and simulation distance within the recommended starting ranges. Exploration generates and loads terrain, so the symptom may be CPU or storage pressure rather than insufficient RAM alone.
Recommended Free Tools
A failed update damaged the world
Stop the new instance and do not keep playing into the damaged copy. Restore the dated pre-update world and configuration backup, reinstall the previous matching server pack and have every player revert to that same client version.
Managed-hosting checklist
Before paying for a managed instance, ask the provider to confirm all of the following in writing:
- Java 21 is available and selectable for the server process.
- NeoForge and a custom CurseForge server pack are supported, including manual upload when the pack is not in a one-click catalog.
- The plan includes at least 10 GB of usable server RAM for a two-to-five-player starting group.
- Storage is NVMe SSD rather than unspecified or shared slow storage.
- You can access a live console, download logs and edit
server.properties. - Backups have a stated schedule, retention period and one-click or documented restore process.
- The advertised player limit matches the allocated memory and CPU, not merely a marketing slot count.
- The data-center location gives the group acceptable latency and the support team understands modded NeoForge servers.
Ask how an ATM10SKY-2.1.0 update is installed, whether the old instance remains available for rollback and whether the provider charges for backups, extra storage or restores.
Quick Recap
Pre-launch checklist
- Server and client use the same ATM10 To the Sky release, Minecraft 1.21.1 version and NeoForge loader.
- Java 21 is confirmed in the server environment.
- The chosen machine meets the RAM band for the expected concurrent players and has NVMe storage.
- The first boot completed, the EULA was accepted knowingly and the server starts cleanly a second time.
max-players,view-distanceandsimulation-distanceare set deliberately.- The port is unused, the firewall and router rules are correct, and local and external connection tests succeeded.
- The whitelist is enabled for a private community.
- A backup exists outside the live world directory and a restore has been tested.
- Every player has instructions to install the exact matching client release.
