Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
To host a TNP Limitless 7 server, use the matching Limitless 7 server-files archive for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge, run it with Java 17, and allocate at least 8 GB of memory—10 GB or more is the pack author’s recommendation. Extract the archive, accept the EULA, configure server.properties, then start the supplied run.bat (Windows) or run.sh (Linux/macOS). Every player must install the identical Limitless 7 release, Minecraft version, and Forge loader.
This guide covers a self-hosted installation, firewall and router considerations, resource planning, managed hosting, updates, backups, and the failures most likely to stop a heavily modded server from starting.

What TNP Limitless 7 is and what a server needs
TNP Limitless 7 is a large Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1. Its project description characterizes it as “A Modpack on Forge 1.20.1” and lists roughly 735 or more mods and about 2,650 quests. That scale is why a normal vanilla server setup or a small shared hosting plan can run out of memory during startup or world generation.
The pack documentation states two memory thresholds: “Minimum recommended ram is 8gb. (Don’t go lower, it won’t work.)” and “Recommended allocated ram is 10+ gb. Allocate more if you can.” Those are Java heap allocations, not a promise that a computer with exactly that much total memory will be comfortable. The operating system, Java process overhead, file cache, and any other services need memory outside the heap.

Java 17 or newer is required by the pack documentation. Use a supported 64-bit Java 17 runtime and verify the version before attempting to launch Forge. A newer Java release may work in some environments, but Java 17 is the documented baseline and is the safest choice for a reproducible installation.
Current pack and server-file versions
The CurseForge files listing currently shows Limitless 7 version 1.21.1 and a matching “LL7 Slim Server Files v1.21.1” package for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge, uploaded August 14, 2026. Choose one pack release and download the server files carrying that same release number. Do not combine a client from one release with server files from another.
Hardware and storage checklist
- Operating system: Windows, Linux, or macOS can run the supplied Forge launch path. A supported 64-bit operating system is strongly preferable for a pack of this size.
- Java: 64-bit Java 17, with the
javacommand available in the server account’s path. - Memory: 8 GB allocated is the published floor; 10 GB or more is recommended. Leave additional physical RAM for the operating system and other processes.
- CPU: Use a modern processor with strong single-thread performance. Modded ticks, chunk generation, and scheduled tasks can be limited by one busy thread even when total CPU usage looks low.
- Disk: Reserve space for the extracted pack, Forge libraries, logs, backups, and a world that grows as players explore. Solid-state storage reduces startup and chunk-loading delays.
- Network: A stable connection and an inbound firewall rule for the configured Minecraft port are required for players outside the host’s local network.
Choose self-hosting or a managed server
Self-hosting gives you direct access to every file and avoids a recurring hosting fee, but you are responsible for Java, operating-system updates, port forwarding, backups, security, and recovery. It works well when one person can administer the machine and the group plays from a network whose router permits inbound connections.
A managed host installs the pack on a rented machine and usually supplies a web panel, monitoring, and support. Before paying, confirm the exact LL7 release, Java version, memory allocation, CPU limits, storage, backup policy, region, player-slot policy, cancellation terms, and whether you can download the world and configuration. Provider pages change, so treat advertised prices, uptime, regions, and affiliate relationships as details to verify at the time of purchase.
| Provider example | What its LL7 page advertises | What you must verify before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| GameHostBros | Instant LL7 setup; a published configuration reports a 13 GB Java allocation and 16 GB minimum system memory. | Current supported LL7 release, CPU limits, region, backups, player limits, price, and cancellation terms. |
| VeryGames | A dedicated LL7 hosting page with version selection. | Whether the selected version is the one your clients use, the actual allocated RAM, storage, support scope, and backup frequency. |
| BoxToPlay | LL7 version selection during setup, with installation beginning as part of provisioning. | Installation completion time, file access, update and rollback process, network location, pricing, and export options. |
The 13 GB allocation and 16 GB system-memory figure above are a provider-specific configuration, not a universal LL7 requirement. The pack’s own published guidance remains the relevant starting point: at least 8 GB allocated and preferably 10 GB or more.
Install a self-hosted LL7 server step by step
1. Prepare a dedicated server directory
Create a folder used only by this server, such as C:MinecraftLL7 on Windows or /opt/minecraft/ll7 on Linux. Keep the directory on a disk with room for the archive, generated libraries, logs, and world data. Avoid placing it inside a synchronized consumer folder that might lock or partially upload files while Forge is running.

2. Install and verify Java 17
Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime appropriate for your operating system. Open a new terminal or Command Prompt and run:
java -version
The output should identify Java 17. If it reports another major version or says the command is not found, fix the system path or the server account’s Java configuration before continuing. Running a different Java executable than the one you tested is a common cause of confusing startup errors.
3. Download the matching server files
Open the official TNP Limitless 7 files page on CurseForge and select one release. For the current listing, that means the Limitless 7 v1.21.1 client release and the corresponding LL7 Slim Server Files v1.21.1 archive, both targeting Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge. Download the server archive itself, not only the client pack, and do not mix an older server archive with the current client.
4. Extract the archive
Extract all files directly into the dedicated server directory. Preserve the directory structure supplied by the archive. You should see the Forge launch files and supporting files, rather than an additional nested folder that forces you to start the server from the wrong level.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute5. Start once, then accept the EULA
Run the supplied launcher once. Forge will create normal files such as eula.txt, server.properties, the config directory, and log files. Stop the process if it remains running, open eula.txt, and change the EULA setting to the accepted value only after reading and agreeing to Minecraft’s terms. Save the file, then start the server again.
6. Configure server policies
Use server.properties for standard server settings. Set a recognizable level-name before creating a world, choose the difficulty, review view and simulation distances, and set a whitelist if the server is private. Keep the default port unless you have a reason to change it; if you do change it, the firewall and router must use the same number.

The pack’s config directory contains mod-specific settings. Change one setting at a time and keep a copy of the original file. Some mods expose gameplay, performance, or world-generation options that only take effect after a restart, and changing world-generation settings after a world already exists can produce inconsistent terrain.
7. Set the Java memory allocation
When the supplied Forge package includes user_jvm_args.txt, use that file for memory arguments rather than editing the generated launch script. Set a heap appropriate to the machine: 8 GB is the documented minimum, while 10 GB or more is recommended. A host with 16 GB of total RAM should not normally give the entire 16 GB to Java; leave headroom for the operating system and filesystem cache. On a machine with more memory, increase the allocation gradually and watch logs and actual system usage rather than assuming that more heap always improves performance.

On Windows, double-click or invoke run.bat from the server directory. On Linux or macOS, run run.sh. If the Unix shell reports a permission error, make the script executable and start it again:
chmod +x run.sh
./run.sh
Keep the terminal or service session attached until Forge completes startup. The first launch can take substantially longer while libraries are installed and registries are built. Read the console for a ready message and confirm that no repeating exception is still being logged before inviting players.
Make the server reachable from the internet
Players on the same home network may be able to connect using the host’s local address. Internet players need the server’s reachable address, an inbound rule on the host firewall, and—when the server is behind a home router—a port-forwarding rule from the router to the server’s local IP address.
- Check the
server-portvalue inserver.properties; the conventional Minecraft value is used unless you changed it. - Allow that TCP port through the operating system firewall for the Java process or server port.
- Assign the server machine a stable local address so a router rule does not point to a different device after a reboot.
- Forward the same port from the router’s internet interface to the server machine’s local address.
- Give players the public address and port, while keeping administrative consoles and file shares off the public internet.
Router menus and carrier-grade NAT policies differ by ISP and model. If your ISP does not provide a publicly reachable address, ordinary port forwarding may not work; use a host with public networking or a private networking solution rather than exposing random services.

Synchronize every player’s client
Each player must use the same Limitless 7 release, Minecraft 1.20.1, and Forge loader version as the server. Install the pack through a launcher that can select the exact release shown in the server archive. Do not add, remove, or update individual mods unless the server administrator is changing the server and every client together.
A mismatch often appears as a rejected connection, a missing-mod list, a registry error, or a disconnect during login. Record the server’s selected release in your group’s instructions. When updating, stop the server, back up the world, install the matching server files, and have players update their clients before reconnecting.
Memory, performance, and player capacity
There is no official LL7 player-count-to-RAM table in the published material, so do not promise a specific number of concurrent players from the 8 GB or 10 GB figures alone. Actual demand depends on view distance, exploration speed, chunk generation, automation-heavy bases, entity counts, and the other mods loaded by the selected release.

- Startup repeatedly ends with an out-of-memory error or the operating system kills the Java process.
- Garbage-collection pauses become frequent while the machine is otherwise idle.
- The server remains alive but tick time rises when players explore new terrain or enter heavily automated areas.
- The host’s swap or paging activity stays high, indicating that total physical memory is exhausted.
First confirm that Java is 64-bit and that the heap argument was actually applied. Then check total system memory, close unrelated applications, and increase the heap only if physical RAM remains available. If the machine is already paging, adding heap can make responsiveness worse; move the server to a larger machine instead.
CPU, storage, and world-generation practices
- Use SSD storage and exclude the live server directory from aggressive antivirus real-time scanning only if you understand the security trade-off.
- Generate or explore new terrain during a quiet period; simultaneous exploration by many players creates more chunk work than a settled base.
- Keep view and simulation distances at values the hardware can sustain rather than maximizing both immediately.
- Watch the console for a specific mod or repeating error before changing broad JVM settings.
Backups, updates, and safe administration
Back up before every change
Stop the server cleanly before copying the world. Back up the world directory, server.properties, the config directory, and any scripts or JVM-argument files you edited. Keep at least one copy on a different disk or machine. A backup that remains on the same failing drive is not a recovery plan.
Update in a controlled sequence
- Announce downtime and stop player activity.
- Stop the server and make a dated backup.
- Record the current LL7, Minecraft, and Forge versions.
- Download the matching newer server-files archive.
- Test the new files with the backed-up world, watching the console for registry or missing-mod errors.
- Have every player install the same client release before reopening the server.
Do not delete the old installation until the new world has started successfully and players have confirmed their inventories and bases are intact. Keep the previous server directory as a rollback option, but never run two copies against the same world folder.

Limit administrative exposure
Use a whitelist for a private group, assign operator privileges only to trusted administrators, and avoid exposing remote consoles or file-management panels directly to the internet. Keep Java and the host operating system patched, and review logs when an unknown player or repeated connection attempt appears.

Troubleshooting common LL7 startup and connection failures
“Java” is missing or the wrong version
Run java -version in the same account and shell that starts the server. Install 64-bit Java 17 and correct the path. If a launcher or hosting panel has its own Java selector, choose Java 17 there as well; changing the operating system path alone may not change the panel’s runtime.
The server stops with an out-of-memory error
Verify the heap value in user_jvm_args.txt, confirm that the host has more physical RAM than the heap setting, and close unrelated programs. Increase memory in measured steps. If the machine cannot provide the pack’s 8 GB minimum without swapping, use a larger host.
Players receive a mod or version mismatch
Compare the exact LL7 release, Minecraft 1.20.1 version, Forge loader, and installed mod list on the client and server. Reinstall the client from the same pack release selected for the server instead of copying individual mods from another version.
The server works locally but not remotely
Confirm the configured port, host firewall rule, router forwarding destination, and the machine’s current local address. Test from a genuinely external connection, such as a phone hotspot, because a router may not support loopback connections from inside the same network.
Recommended Free Tools
The console shows repeated errors after an update
Stop the server, restore the pre-update backup, and check whether the error appears only with the new release. Do not remove random mods from a curated pack to silence one message; identify the version or configuration change first and keep clients on the working release while investigating.
When managed hosting is the better choice
Choose managed hosting when you need a public address without home-router administration, want the server online while your personal computer is off, or do not want to maintain Java and operating-system security. Ask support specifically how much RAM is allocated to Java, not only how much memory the plan advertises, and whether the panel lets you download the complete world and configuration.
Self-hosting is usually the better fit when you already own a machine with sufficient memory, understand port forwarding, and want unrestricted access to scripts and configuration. In either case, keep independent backups and record the exact pack release so a provider migration does not force a version mismatch.
