For a new Tekkit Classic Reloaded server, use the newest CurseForge server pack, currently version 1.3.1 for Minecraft 1.19.2 and Forge 43.5.0. Install Java 17 or newer, extract the pack into a dedicated directory, give the server about 6 GB of heap to start, and run the launch script included with the pack. A managed Minecraft host can perform most of the Java, Forge and launch configuration for you, while self-hosting gives you complete control.

This guide covers the pack choice, Java version, RAM planning, installation commands, first startup, network considerations, managed hosting trade-offs and the failures that most often prevent a server from starting.

Choose the right Tekkit Classic Reloaded server pack

Tekkit Classic Reloaded has more than one server download. The files are not interchangeable, so identify the Minecraft and Forge versions before you extract anything.

Current pack: TCR v1.3.1 for Minecraft 1.19.2

The latest server pack identified in the CurseForge files listing is TCR v1.3.1, uploaded April 22, 2025. It targets Minecraft 1.19.2 and uses Forge 1.19.2-43.5.0. The listed server-pack download is approximately 254.9 MB. This is the pack to use when all players are installing the current 1.19.2 release.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Older pack: R1.2 for Minecraft 1.12.2

An older TCR server pack, R1.2, targets Minecraft 1.12.2 and was uploaded November 6, 2019. Use it only when every player is intentionally running that older release. A 1.12.2 client cannot join a 1.19.2 server, and copying mods or configuration files between the two releases can produce missing-mod and registry errors.

Verify the file before downloading

Open the modpack’s files tab, sort by date, and read the Minecraft and Forge versions shown for the server pack. The listing can change after this article is published, so treat v1.3.1 as the latest version identified here, not as a guarantee that no newer file now exists.

Hardware and Tekkit Classic Reloaded server RAM

Plan for roughly 6 GB of server memory for the 1.19.2 pack, then increase it for a larger world or more simultaneous players. Published recommendations differ because they describe different measurements: some state Java heap, while others describe total machine memory.

Source Minimum or baseline Recommended figure What the number describes
Tekkit Classic Reloaded Fandom server guide 2 or more CPU cores, 6 GB system RAM, 5 GB storage; 4 GB allocated to the server 4 or more cores, 12 GB system RAM, 10 GB SSD Separates server allocation from total system resources
CreeperHost 5,000 MB RAM and 15 GB SSD Not stated Hosting-plan baseline
BisectHosting Not stated 6 GB RAM to run smoothly Pack-level hosting recommendation

These are host and wiki recommendations rather than results from a published benchmark. Use them as planning ranges. A machine with 6 GB total RAM should not normally assign all 6 GB to Java: the operating system and background services also need memory. The Fandom guide’s 6 GB system/4 GB server split illustrates that distinction.

CPU and storage

Two or more cores is the Fandom guide’s minimum and four or more cores its recommendation. Keep the server on an SSD when possible; the same guide lists 5 GB as a minimum and 10 GB as recommended, while CreeperHost lists 15 GB minimum. The pack download itself is about 254.9 MB, but the world, region files, logs, backups and updated mods consume additional space. Leave room for several world backups rather than treating the download size as the disk requirement.

How to choose an initial allocation

  • For a small private group, start near 6 GB of heap if the host machine has enough total RAM left for the operating system.
  • If the machine has only 6 GB total, use the lower allocation recommended by the Fandom guide instead of reserving all system memory for Java.
  • For more players or heavy exploration, increase heap gradually and watch the log and operating-system memory use. More RAM cannot compensate for a mismatched pack, an overloaded CPU or a slow disk.

Tekkit Classic Reloaded Java version

The 1.19.2 TCR pack requires Java 17 or newer. The fan wiki specifically recommends Eclipse Temurin 17 LTS on Windows and OpenJDK 17 installed through a Linux distribution’s package manager.

Windows

  1. Install a 64-bit Java 17 distribution, such as Eclipse Temurin 17 LTS.
  2. Open a new Command Prompt and run java -version.
  3. Confirm that the reported major version is 17 or higher. If Windows reports Java 8, an old installation is still first on your PATH.

Linux

  1. Install OpenJDK 17 using your distribution’s package manager.
  2. Run java -version in a new shell and verify the major version.
  3. If several Java versions are installed, select Java 17 as the default or use its full executable path in the launch script.

Do not apply original Tekkit Classic advice

Original Tekkit Classic targeted Minecraft 1.2.5. A Technic forum post for that different pack advised Java 8, but that advice does not apply to Tekkit Classic Reloaded 1.19.2. The Java requirement for the older TCR 1.12.2 server pack was not established in the available documentation, so verify its own release notes rather than assuming either Java 8 or Java 17.

How to host Tekkit Classic Reloaded server: self-host setup

The server pack is the simplest self-host route because it bundles the expected Forge server files, mods and launch material. Manual installation from a vanilla server JAR, a separately downloaded Forge installer and hand-copied mods creates more opportunities for version mismatch.

  1. Download the matching server pack. From the Tekkit Classic Reloaded CurseForge files tab, choose the newest server pack and confirm that the displayed Minecraft and Forge versions match the clients your players will use. For this guide’s current release, those values are Minecraft 1.19.2 and Forge 43.5.0.
  2. Install Java 17 or newer. Complete the Windows or Linux installation above before attempting the first launch. A server that silently selects Java 8 can fail before Forge produces a useful error.
  3. Create a dedicated directory. Make a folder used only by this server, such as a TCR server directory on an SSD. Avoid placing it inside a cloud-synchronised folder or a location where routine cleanup software might remove logs and world files.
  4. Extract the archive. Unpack every file from the server pack into the dedicated directory. Preserve the directory structure; do not move individual mods into a different layout unless the pack’s own instructions require it.
  5. Inspect the supplied launch files. The pack normally includes a Windows batch file, a Linux shell script, or both. Use the supplied script first because its JAR name and Forge arguments match that release. The exact JAR filename varies by pack.
  6. Run one initial start. Launch the supplied script from the server directory. If the process stops and creates an EULA file, read Mojang’s terms, change the required acceptance setting to true, save it, and start the script again. Keep the terminal window open so you can see the first error instead of double-clicking and losing the output.
  7. Set the heap in the launch command. If you need to launch manually, use a command in this form from the directory containing the Forge server JAR:
java -Xmx6G -Xms6G -XX:+UseG1GC -jar <forge-server-jar> nogui

Replace <forge-server-jar> with the exact filename shipped in your pack. -Xms6G sets the initial heap and -Xmx6G sets the maximum heap; the example gives both values as 6 GB. Adjust them to the total memory available on your machine. -XX:+UseG1GC selects the G1 garbage collector used in the fan-wiki example.

  1. Wait for a ready state. Watch the console for Forge loading messages and the final server-ready message. The first run can take longer while the world and configuration files are generated.
  2. Stop cleanly. Enter stop in the server console and wait for it to finish writing the world before closing the window or rebooting the machine.
  3. Install the client pack. Every player must use the same TCR release, Minecraft version, Forge version and mod configuration as the server. A client on R1.2 cannot connect to a v1.3.1 server.

Set and tune server memory safely

Memory flags belong in the Java launch command, not in an operating-system setting. The fan wiki’s example is java -Xmx6G -Xms6G -XX:+UseG1GC; the JAR argument and nogui are then appended to start the Forge server without a graphical window.

What to change when memory is tight

  • If the operating system begins swapping or becomes unresponsive, lower -Xmx and -Xms together, or move the server to a machine with more total RAM.
  • If the log reports an out-of-memory failure while the machine still has substantial free memory, raise the heap in measured steps rather than jumping immediately to an extreme value.
  • Keep initial and maximum values equal for a simple, predictable setup unless you have a specific reason to let Java resize the heap.
  • Do not confuse a larger heap with better performance. Excessive allocation can leave too little memory for the operating system, file cache and other services.

When to add more memory

Increase the allocation when your group grows, players explore new terrain continuously, or the server repeatedly pauses while loading chunks and the machine has unused physical RAM. Record the old values before changing them so you can revert if the operating system starts paging. The published 6 GB figure is a practical starting point, not a universal cap or guarantee of a particular player count.

Make the server reachable

A server that starts successfully is not automatically reachable by other players. Players on the same local network may be able to connect using the host computer’s local address, while internet players generally require a public address, a router rule and firewall permission. Router models, internet providers and firewall products differ, and detailed port-forwarding values were not established for this pack. Consult the documentation for your router and operating system, and expose only the game service you intend to run.

Test locally before troubleshooting internet connectivity. If the host itself cannot join, fix the Java, Forge or world startup problem first. If local players can join but remote players cannot, investigate the network path, firewall and public-address configuration separately rather than changing the modpack or RAM flags.

Self-hosting versus a managed Minecraft server

Self-hosting can mean your own desktop, a home server or a rented virtual machine. You control the files and schedule, but you also maintain Java, Forge, memory flags, backups, updates, firewall settings and availability.

Consideration Self-host Managed hosting
Installation Download, extract and launch the server pack yourself CreeperHost describes searching for the modpack in a Minecraft Java instance and installing it; BisectHosting says its selector sets up the pack automatically
Java and Forge maintenance You select Java 17+, keep the correct Forge files and diagnose startup errors The provider handles much of the runtime setup, although you still choose the correct pack release
Control Full access to files, scripts, logs and operating-system settings Control depends on the provider’s panel and plan
Cost Uses your existing hardware or a separately rented machine Recurring fees apply; prices were not captured here
Operations You handle updates, backups, firewall and uptime The host reduces server administration but does not remove the need to verify pack versions and protect your world

Apex Minecraft Hosting lists a Tekkit Classic server product, but no specification was captured for it. Compare current RAM, storage, backup and modpack-support details directly in any provider’s panel before paying. A managed service is most useful when you value a control panel and predictable availability more than direct machine access; self-hosting is preferable when you need unrestricted file and process control.

Troubleshoot common startup and connection failures

The server exits immediately or says Java is unsupported

Run java -version in the same account and shell that launches the server. For TCR v1.3.1, install or select Java 17 or newer. Remove an old Java 8 path from the script or system PATH if it is being selected first. In the CurseForge app, the fan wiki directs Windows users to Settings → Minecraft → Java Settings to choose the correct Java executable.

Forge reports missing mods or registry errors

Confirm that the server and every client came from the same TCR release. Mixing the 1.12.2 R1.2 files with 1.19.2 v1.3.1 files, or manually replacing one mod with a file from another release, is a common cause. Re-extract a clean copy of the matching server pack into a new directory and compare the version shown in the files tab.

The launch script cannot find its JAR

Run the script from the directory where the archive was extracted. If you wrote a manual command, replace the placeholder with the exact Forge JAR filename, including capitalization. Do not assume that a JAR name from the older pack is valid for v1.3.1.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The process runs out of memory

Check the total physical RAM, not just the value you want to assign to Java. The Fandom guide distinguishes 6 GB of system RAM from 4 GB for the server, while other hosting guidance cites 5,000 MB or 6 GB as pack baselines. Free memory by stopping unrelated services, lower the heap if the operating system is swapping, or move to a larger machine. Increase memory only when the machine has room to spare.

The server starts but players cannot join

First test from the host computer, then from another device on the same local network. If local access works, inspect the operating-system firewall, router configuration and public address for remote access. If no one can join locally, read the server console for a startup failure instead of changing network settings.

The game will not start through the CurseForge app

Use the app’s Settings → Minecraft → Java Settings path to select Java 17 or newer, then retry. If the problem persists, launch the server pack’s supplied script from a terminal so the complete Forge error remains visible.

Updates, backups and rollback planning

Before updating

  1. Stop the server with the stop command and wait for a clean shutdown.
  2. Copy the entire server directory, including the world, configuration, scripts, logs and mod files, to a separate backup location.
  3. Record the current TCR, Minecraft and Forge versions.
  4. Extract the new server pack into a separate test directory instead of overwriting the working installation.

Test the new release

Start the test copy with Java 17 or newer, confirm that Forge loads all mods, and verify that a copy of the world opens correctly. Keep the original directory untouched until players have confirmed that the new release works. Never assume that a world created by one Minecraft version can be safely downgraded to another.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Restore after a failed update

Stop the failed instance, move its directory aside, and restore the last known-good backup as a complete set. Restoring only the world while retaining newer mods or configuration can recreate the incompatibility that caused the failure.

Pre-launch checklist

  • The files tab shows the intended TCR release, Minecraft version and Forge version.
  • All players installed that same client release.
  • java -version reports Java 17 or newer for the 1.19.2 pack.
  • The server is extracted into its own directory on adequate SSD storage.
  • The heap flags fit the machine’s total RAM; about 6 GB is a starting point, not a requirement to consume all memory.
  • The supplied launch script or an exact manual JAR command is being run from the server directory.
  • The first-run EULA prompt, if displayed, has been handled according to its terms.
  • The console reaches a ready state and the server is stopped with stop before maintenance.
  • Local connectivity is tested before internet connectivity.
  • A restorable backup exists before any modpack or Minecraft-version change.
