To host TechRevolution, install Forge for the exact Minecraft and pack release your players use, copy the matching CurseForge ServerPack into a dedicated server folder, remove client-only mods, allocate roughly 10–12 GB of RAM, accept the Minecraft EULA, and test locally before exposing the server to the internet. The current CurseForge release is TechRevolution v1.5.3 for Minecraft 1.20.1; 1.19.2 releases remain available.

This is an expert-sized pack, not a lightweight vanilla server. Its 470-plus mods, thousands of quests, custom recipes, dimensions and automation systems make version matching, memory headroom and backups essential.

Choose the exact TechRevolution release first

A dedicated server and every client must use the same three-part combination: Minecraft version, Forge build and TechRevolution release. Do not install a 1.20.1 client pack and then point it at a 1.19.2 server, or combine a server pack from one TechRevolution version with mods from another.

Release line Minecraft Loader Server-pack detail Publication status
TechRevolution v1.5.3 1.20.1 Forge A corresponding v1.5.3 ServerPack is listed in the project files Main current listing; released October 13, 2026
TechRevolution v1.5.2 1.19.2 Forge A v1.5.2 ServerPack is listed for this release line Older supported release line shown in the files

The exact Forge build and Java version for v1.5.3 are not stated on the captured project pages. Before installing, open the release metadata and record the Forge build and Java requirement shown there. The Forge installer must use that same Minecraft version.

What is running on the server?

CurseForge describes TechRevolution as a hard or expert technology-progression pack with about 470-plus mods and 4,405-plus quests. The project README additionally lists more than 500 custom recipes, eight dimensions, over 1,000 builder blocks, technology mods such as Create and Mekanism, magic mods such as Botania and Ars Nouveau, and shader support. These are pack metadata figures, not independent performance benchmarks. World generation, automation, view distance and the number of simultaneous players will determine the actual load.

Hardware and software prerequisites

RAM allocation

The author’s README recommends allocating about 10–12 GB of RAM for smooth operation. The same README recommends a hosted plan with at least 8 GB. Treat those numbers as guidance rather than a guaranteed player capacity: Java overhead, the operating system, world generation, view distance, chunk-loading machines and other applications all consume memory.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a local machine, a system with 16 GB of total RAM is a sensible starting point because it leaves room for the operating system and the server’s Java process. Do not give the Java process every gigabyte in the computer; doing so can cause swapping or leave no memory for the desktop. If the machine also runs a web browser, voice chat, backup software or another game server, leave additional headroom.

CPU, disk and operating system

  • Use a modern, multicore CPU and leave processor headroom for world generation and automation-heavy chunks. The project does not publish an official CPU benchmark or player-capacity figure.
  • Use a fast, reliable local disk and reserve space for the world, logs, mod files and rotating backups. No official minimum disk size is published, so measure your world and backup growth after the first sessions.
  • Install Java before running the Forge installer or launch script. Use the Java version required by the specific Forge and Minecraft release metadata rather than assuming that a different Java installation will work.
  • On Windows, run the server from a dedicated folder outside locations synchronized by consumer cloud drives. On Linux or macOS, use a directory owned by the account that will run the service.

Network prerequisites

Local players can connect through the host’s LAN address. Players outside your home network require either router port forwarding or a port-tunneling service. In both cases, the server must be running, the host firewall must permit the configured server port, and the remote address supplied to friends must be the public address or tunnel address rather than the host’s private LAN address.

Download the official ServerPack

  1. Open TechRevolution’s CurseForge Files page.
  2. Select the release your clients will install, such as v1.5.3 for Minecraft 1.20.1 or the v1.5.2 1.19.2 line.
  3. Download that release’s file explicitly labeled ServerPack. A normal client download is not a substitute for the server pack.
  4. Keep the downloaded archive unchanged until you have created the server folder and installed the matching Forge server.

The ServerPack is the authoritative starting point for server-side mods and configuration. Mixing files from different releases is a common cause of missing dependencies, registry errors and startup crashes.

Install the server step by step

1. Record the versions

Write down the Minecraft version, TechRevolution version and Forge build before extracting anything. For the current line, that means Minecraft 1.20.1, TechRevolution v1.5.3 and the Forge build listed in the release metadata. If you deliberately use 1.19.2, record its corresponding pack and Forge information instead.

2. Create a dedicated folder

Create a new folder used only by this server—for example, a folder named for the release. Do not install into an existing vanilla world or another modpack’s directory. A dedicated folder makes backups, upgrades and rollback straightforward.

3. Install Forge into that folder

  1. Download the Forge installer for the exact Minecraft version and build required by the TechRevolution release.
  2. Run the installer and choose Install server.
  3. Set the destination to the dedicated server folder.
  4. Allow the installer to download its libraries and create the Forge launch files.

The installer requires Java. If it fails immediately, verify that Java is installed and that the installer is using it; do not change Minecraft versions to work around an unverified Java problem.

4. Extract the ServerPack contents

Extract the matching ServerPack into the Forge server folder. Copy the supplied mods, config and any included asset directories, scripts or supporting files. When the archive asks whether to merge folders, merge them into the server directory rather than creating an extra nested folder.

Compare the resulting directory with the pack’s ServerPack contents. Avoid adding personal client mods at this stage; establish a clean, official baseline first.

5. Remove client-only mods

A dedicated server cannot load many rendering, user-interface or client-optimization mods. Remove every client-only entry identified by the pack’s server instructions, along with its corresponding configuration when the instructions call for that. OptiFine is explicitly incompatible with TechRevolution; remove it before diagnosing any launch failure.

Do not remove a mod merely because its name sounds visual. Some mods provide both client and server components, and removing one can create a dependency error. Use the ServerPack contents and the project’s release notes as the authority.

6. Prepare the launch script

Use the supplied launch script when the ServerPack includes one. It normally contains the correct Forge arguments and jar name. If no script is supplied, create a script that calls the Forge server installation and sets an appropriate maximum heap.

The generic setup example is:

java -Xmx4G forge.jar nogui

That 4 GB value is only a generic example from the setup guidance and is below the TechRevolution author’s recommendation. For this pack, set the maximum heap in line with the 10–12 GB guidance while retaining memory for the operating system. Replace the jar name with the exact Forge jar installed in your folder.

On Windows, save the command in a .bat file. On Linux or macOS, save it in a .sh file, make it executable, and run it from the server directory. If Forge generated a script, prefer it over a hand-written command so required arguments are preserved.

7. Accept the EULA and launch again

  1. Run the launch script once. The first run normally creates eula.txt and stops.
  2. Open eula.txt and change eula=false to eula=true.
  3. Save the file without changing its name or extension.
  4. Run the same launch script again.

Read the console during this second start. A successful startup should proceed past mod loading and create or open the world. Stop the server cleanly from its console before making configuration changes or copying a backup.

8. Test with one matching client

Install exactly the same TechRevolution release, Minecraft version and Forge build on one client. Join using the host’s local address first. Test loading into the world, opening inventories, using a few machines and travelling far enough to generate new chunks. Resolve missing-dependency, registry or version errors before inviting remote players.

Let friends connect from outside your network

Option A: Router port forwarding

  1. Give the server computer a stable private LAN address, either by reserving it in the router or configuring a reliable local address.
  2. In the router’s port-forwarding section, forward the server’s configured port to that computer and choose the protocol required by the server.
  3. Allow the same port through the computer’s firewall.
  4. Start the server and test from a connection that is not on your home Wi-Fi, such as a phone hotspot.
  5. Give friends the public address and configured port. They should use the same pack release as the server.

Router interfaces differ, and some internet providers place customers behind carrier-grade NAT. If forwarding appears correct but outside connections still fail, check whether the router has a publicly reachable address and whether the provider blocks inbound connections.

Option B: Port tunneling

A port-tunneling service can provide an externally reachable address without changing the home router. Install the tunnel client, point it at the server’s local port, start the tunnel after the server is ready, and give players the tunnel address. Expect an additional software dependency and possible latency or service limits. Restart the tunnel whenever its address changes, and protect the access token or account credentials.

Basic security checks

  • Keep Forge, Java and the operating system updated within the versions supported by the pack.
  • Never expose remote administration credentials in a shared chat.
  • Back up the world before adding mods, changing configs or upgrading TechRevolution.
  • Whitelist players if the server is private, and stop the server cleanly before editing files.

Diagnose the most common failures

Symptom Likely cause Action
Forge refuses to start or reports missing classes Minecraft, Forge and TechRevolution versions do not match, or a required mod is absent Recheck the three-way version match and restore the official ServerPack contents.
Crash mentions rendering, screens or another client feature A client-only mod was copied to the dedicated server Remove the client-only mod and its associated configuration when instructed; restart from a clean backup.
Launch fails after adding OptiFine OptiFine is incompatible with this pack Remove OptiFine from the client and server troubleshooting setup, then test again.
Server stops with an out-of-memory error or becomes unresponsive during generation Heap is too small, the host is short on total RAM, or other processes are competing for memory Increase the Java maximum only when the machine has free RAM, close competing applications, reduce view distance or chunk-loading activity, and consider a machine with more total memory.
Local players can join but remote players cannot Port forwarding, firewall rules, public addressing or tunnel configuration is incomplete Test from outside the LAN, verify the destination computer and configured port, and use tunneling when inbound forwarding is unavailable.
Clients disconnect with registry or channel errors The client and server contain different mod or config files Install the identical release on the client, compare the server’s mods and config folders with the official ServerPack, and remove personal additions.

Keep the first crash report and the full console log. The earliest error is usually more useful than the final shutdown message. Change one thing at a time so you can identify which file or setting fixed the problem.

Self-hosting versus managed hosting

Self-hosting gives you direct control over files, ports, backups and upgrades, but you must supply the computer, Java and Forge installation, network configuration, monitoring and recovery plan. A managed host shifts those tasks to a control panel and usually charges a recurring fee.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Decision factor Self-hosted machine Managed server
Setup effort Manual Java, Forge, ServerPack, firewall and router setup Often includes an installer or one-click modpack deployment
Memory planning You choose hardware; the author recommends roughly 10–12 GB for smooth operation and a 16 GB system is a sensible starting point The author’s README recommends at least 8 GB for a hosted plan; select more when the host allows it
File and configuration control Full access to every file and process Depends on the host panel; confirm full file access before purchasing
Networking You manage port forwarding, firewall rules or a tunnel The provider supplies an address and manages the external network path
Backups and recovery You must schedule, verify and store backups separately Check whether backups are automatic, retained for how long and restorable without support
Latency Usually best for players near the host’s home connection Choose a data-center location near most players
Updates You decide when to install a new ServerPack and can roll back manually Check how quickly the provider supports new TechRevolution releases and whether updates can be staged
Cost model Uses existing hardware and electricity, with possible upgrade costs Recurring rental cost; current prices and uptime commitments vary by provider

For a small group with a suitable computer and someone comfortable with networking, self-hosting maximizes control. Choose managed hosting when you value simpler deployment, a data-center location or provider-managed maintenance more than direct control. In either case, verify the actual RAM allocation, backup policy, player limits, support for the intended TechRevolution release and recovery process before committing.

Backups, updates and routine maintenance

Make a recoverable backup

  1. Stop the server cleanly from the console so pending world writes finish.
  2. Copy the world folder, config, mods, server properties and launch scripts to storage separate from the live folder.
  3. Keep at least one older backup so a corrupted world or bad configuration change can be rolled back.
  4. Periodically restore a copy to a separate test folder; a backup that has never been restored is not verified.

Upgrade only after a test

When a new TechRevolution release appears, download its matching ServerPack and record its Minecraft and Forge versions. Copy the existing world and configuration into a test server first. Read the release notes for changed mods, recipes or dimensions, and do not overwrite the production folder until clients can connect and the world loads correctly. Keep the previous server folder intact for rollback.

Monitor the first sessions

Watch Java memory use, CPU load, disk space and console warnings while players explore new terrain and activate automation. A server that starts successfully can still run out of resources later when several players generate chunks or build machines. Adjust view distance and other settings only after making a backup, and document every change so you can reverse it.
