Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
Host Supersymmetry from the official server archive for the exact release your players install, run it with 64-bit Java 8, allocate memory according to your group size, and configure your firewall and router before inviting anyone. Supersymmetry is a Forge-based Minecraft 1.12.2 technology pack, so a normal vanilla server or a client-only installation is not sufficient.
The currently listed CurseForge file is supersymmetry-0.2.0.1.zip, uploaded October 14, 2026. Releases change frequently, and the project is still developing, so pin one version for the entire group and upgrade only after backing up the world.

What you need before starting
A reliable Supersymmetry server has four dependencies: the correct server distribution, the correct Java runtime, enough memory, and a network path that your players can reach. Prepare these items before extracting files:
- A dedicated Windows or Linux machine, or a managed Minecraft host, that can remain online while players are connected.
- The server archive from the matching SymmetricDevs GitHub release. Do not build a server by copying random files from a client instance.
- A 64-bit Java 8 runtime. Supersymmetry targets Minecraft 1.12.2, and the general Minecraft compatibility guidance for 1.16.5 and older points to Java 8.
- Storage for the server directory, generated world, logs, backups, Forge libraries, mods and configuration files.
- Administrative access to the operating system, firewall and (for a home connection) router.
- A client installation for every player using the identical Supersymmetry release.
Supersymmetry models chemical and physical manufacturing processes through a complex GregTech-based progression. Much of the pack remains in development. Expect recipe, machine and mod changes between releases rather than assuming that a world will always behave identically after an upgrade.

Choose and pin a Supersymmetry release
Start with one release and record its exact version in a small administrator note. The official CurseForge listing currently identifies supersymmetry-0.2.0.1.zip as a Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge release uploaded on October 14, 2026. That is a point-in-time listing; a newer file may appear later.
Why the exact version matters
All clients and the server must use the same pack release. A player on a different release can encounter a missing-mod error, registry mismatch, incompatible recipes or a disconnect during login. A version number that looks almost identical is still a different build for this purpose.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Open the official Supersymmetry project page and follow its SymmetricDevs GitHub Releases link. The project’s release notes repeatedly direct users to download the server and client from GitHub. Select the server artifact for your chosen release. Keep the downloaded archive and its original filename (and checksum, if the release supplies one) so that you can reproduce the installation later.
The project’s build workflow treats client and server as separate outputs. A client archive can contain files that are unsuitable for a dedicated server, while a server archive includes the intended Forge libraries, scripts, defaults and server-side layout.
Install Java 8 and verify the runtime
Install a 64-bit Java 8 runtime on the server machine. The available guidance establishes Java 8 as the compatibility target for this 1.12.2 pack, but it does not mandate a particular Java vendor or a universal set of JVM flags.
Check Java from a terminal
Open a new Command Prompt or shell and run:
java -version
The output should identify Java 8 (usually a version beginning with 1.8). If it reports a newer major version, install Java 8 or change the launch script to the full path of the Java 8 executable. On a machine with several Java installations, checking the interactive shell is not enough: the supplied server script may resolve a different executable.

Make the launcher use the intended executable
Read the server archive’s launch script before editing it. If it calls java without an absolute path, ensure the service account’s PATH points to 64-bit Java 8. If you make a local change, document it beside the script. Do not replace the project’s script with generic Forge commands unless the release documentation tells you to do so; the pack may depend on its directory layout or arguments.
Install the official server pack
- Create a dedicated directory. Use a path reserved for this one Supersymmetry release, such as a folder named with the version. Do not mix it with another modpack, an older world or a different Forge installation.
- Copy the server archive into that directory. Preserve the original ZIP and any release checksum. Keeping the archive makes a clean rebuild possible if a file is accidentally deleted.
- Extract the archive without flattening its structure. Retain the supplied Forge libraries,
mods, configfiles, scripts, defaults and any other directories. An extraction program that skips nested files can produce a server that starts but fails while loading mods. - Review the launch files. Identify the Windows batch file or Linux shell script supplied by the release. Confirm that it runs from the server directory and that it can find Java 8.
- Run the supplied launcher once. The first launch normally creates Minecraft files, logs and a world directory. It may stop and create an EULA file instead of starting fully.
- Read and accept the EULA under Mojang’s terms. Open the generated EULA file, read the linked terms, and change the acceptance setting only if you agree. The retrieved project material does not publish Supersymmetry-specific EULA wording, so use the file generated by your installation as the authoritative prompt.
- Launch again and watch the console. Wait for the server to report that it is ready before connecting. The first startup can take considerably longer while Forge and the pack initialize.
Keep the console visible during initial setup. Forge loading errors, Java exceptions and missing-file messages are much easier to diagnose before the server is detached as a background service.
Allocate memory for your player count
Supersymmetry is a large technology pack, and memory requirements grow with loaded chunks, machines, automation and simultaneous players. The only pack-specific sizing guidance available is a hosting-provider recommendation, not an independent benchmark or a guarantee.
| Concurrent players | Starting allocation | How to use the figure |
|---|---|---|
| 1–5 | 6–8 GB | Start in this range, then observe real heap use and operating-system memory pressure. |
| 5–15 | 10–12 GB | Allow headroom for exploration, chunk generation and complex factories. |
| 15+ | 12–16 GB | Treat this as a starting band; CPU speed, world activity and view distances can change the result. |
These ranges describe allocated server memory, not necessarily the total physical RAM the machine needs. Leave memory for the operating system, Java’s native allocations, disk cache and other services. A computer with exactly the minimum heap allocation can still run out of system memory.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSet memory through the supplied script
Use the memory options already present in the release’s launcher and adjust only the values it exposes. Common scripts use minimum and maximum heap settings, but Supersymmetry’s sources do not prescribe mandatory flags. Do not copy a flag set from an unrelated pack. After changing allocation, restart the server and watch the log and operating-system memory usage under the heaviest normal activity.
Signs that allocation or hardware is inadequate
- The console reports an out-of-memory exception or the process is terminated by the operating system.
- Players experience long pauses while the server performs garbage collection.
- Tick times rise when several players explore new terrain or operate large factories.
- The host begins swapping to disk, making every action slow even though the Java heap is not full.
Increasing RAM cannot repair a slow processor, saturated disk or poor network route. Change one variable at a time and record the result so that you can distinguish a memory problem from a CPU or bandwidth problem.

Configure the server safely before inviting players
Keep authentication enabled
Leave online-mode enabled unless you have a documented, controlled reason to change it. Disabling authentication changes the trust model and can allow players to impersonate other names. If you must operate differently for a specific environment, understand the security consequences and isolate that server from the public internet.
Use a whitelist
Enable the server whitelist and add intended players by their exact in-game names. Test the whitelist with one account before publishing the address. A whitelist is not a substitute for authentication, but it reduces accidental access while you are configuring the pack.
Protect the files and world
- Run the server under a dedicated operating-system account rather than an administrator or root account.
- Restrict write access to the server directory, especially if other services share the machine.
- Back up the world while the server is stopped, or follow a backup method that guarantees a consistent snapshot.
- Keep at least one backup away from the server machine so a disk failure or ransomware event does not destroy every copy.
- Retain logs and note the pack version, Java version and any local script changes with each backup.
Do not remove unknown files casually
Forge packs often depend on configuration, library and script files that do not look like user content. Delete or replace a file only when the release notes or an error diagnosis identifies it. A “clean-up” that removes an apparently unused library can prevent the server from launching.
Let friends connect from outside your home
A server on your home network is normally reachable only by devices inside that network. Players elsewhere need a router rule that forwards the Minecraft listening port to the server’s local address, plus a firewall rule that permits the same port and protocol.
- Give the server a stable local address. Use a DHCP reservation in the router or a carefully configured static address so that a reboot does not send forwarding to the wrong computer.
- Find the listening port in the server configuration. Forward the port actually configured by your installation; do not assume that another server’s setting applies.
- Create the router port-forward rule. Select the server’s local address and the configured Minecraft port. Avoid forwarding unrelated administration ports to the internet.
- Allow the port through the host firewall. Limit the rule to the required application and network profile. Keep the operating system and router firmware updated.
- Start the server and test locally first. Join from another device on the same network using the server’s local address. This separates Forge or mod errors from internet routing problems.
- Test from an external connection. Use a phone on cellular data or ask a friend to connect. Some routers cannot test their own public address from inside the network, a limitation known as hairpin NAT.
- Give players the public address or a DNS name. Tell them the address and port exactly as configured, and do not publish your home address in an open forum.
CurseForge’s general hosting guidance explicitly notes that port forwarding is required for players outside the home network. If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, inbound forwarding may not work even when the router appears correctly configured; ask the provider whether you receive a reachable public address or use a hosting arrangement that supplies one.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Bandwidth and latency considerations
Upload bandwidth is more important than download speed for a home-hosted server because the server must send world and entity updates to every player. Several players generating new terrain at once can create a burst of traffic. Latency is affected by the host’s location, the players’ distance and the quality of the route; more RAM will not reduce network delay.

Operate the server day to day
Use graceful shutdowns
Stop the server from its console with the supported shutdown command rather than closing the terminal or killing the process. A graceful stop flushes world data and reduces the chance of a corrupted region or incomplete machine state.
Schedule backups around activity
Choose a backup interval that matches how much progress your group can afford to lose. Stop the server for a simple, consistent copy unless you have verified that your backup tool can snapshot live files safely. Periodically restore a backup to a separate test directory; an untested backup is only an assumption.
Monitor the right signals
- Server log errors and repeated mod exceptions.
- Java heap usage and operating-system memory pressure.
- CPU utilization during exploration and factory operation.
- Disk space, especially as logs and world regions grow.
- Player reports of delayed actions, rubber-banding or disconnects.
Record when a problem began and which release, Java build or configuration changed immediately beforehand. That history is more useful than repeatedly deleting files at random.

Upgrade to a newer Supersymmetry release
Supersymmetry publishes frequent updates, and release notes document mod changes and other adjustments. Treat an upgrade as a migration, not as a file-copy operation.
- Write down the current pack release, Java version, launch settings and server configuration.
- Stop the server cleanly and make a complete copy of the world and the entire server directory.
- Read the target release notes for recipe, machine, registry or mod changes that could affect existing automation.
- Extract the new server archive into a new, versioned directory instead of overwriting the working installation.
- Apply only the configuration changes you intentionally need. Do not blindly copy every old config file into the new release; defaults may have changed.
- Start the new server with the supplied launcher and Java 8, then inspect the log for loading errors.
- Test with a copy of the world before opening the upgraded instance to players.
- Keep the old directory untouched until the group has verified the new world and gameplay.
If the test reveals broken recipes, missing blocks or a startup failure, stop, restore the backup and investigate the release notes and logs. Never use the only copy of a valuable world as an upgrade experiment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Self-hosting versus a managed host
A managed Minecraft provider can advertise one-click Supersymmetry installation, Forge 1.12.2 support, NVMe storage and DDoS protection. Those are vendor claims to verify at the time of purchase, not independent performance results. A managed service can reduce setup work, but it does not remove the need to pin a pack version, maintain backups or check compatibility.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
| Decision factor | Self-hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront hardware cost | You provide the computer, storage and power. | Hardware is included in the service; no local server purchase is required. |
| Recurring cost | Usually your existing power and internet costs; any equipment or upgrade costs are yours. | Monthly or otherwise recurring fee; the available material does not establish a neutral price. |
| 24/7 availability | Depends on your electricity, hardware and home connection. | Provider facility and operating policy determine uptime; verify the provider’s terms. |
| Upload bandwidth and latency | Limited by your home connection and geographic route. | Usually benefits from a data-center connection; location still affects player latency. |
| Backups | You design, store and test them. | May be offered as an automated feature; confirm retention, restoration and extra charges. |
| DDoS protection | You must arrange protection or accept exposure at your connection. | Some providers advertise DDoS protection; verify what attacks and traffic levels are covered. |
| Java and file control | Full control over Java 8, scripts, mods, configs and operating-system permissions. | Control varies by panel and plan; confirm that custom files and Java settings are allowed. |
| Version pinning | You choose the archive and decide when to upgrade. | Confirm that the panel offers the exact Supersymmetry release you need and will not auto-update it. |
| Technical support | You diagnose Forge, Java, networking and backups yourself. | Support scope differs; check whether agents handle modpack-specific issues or only the underlying host. |
Choose self-hosting when you value complete control, already have a suitable machine and can maintain networking and backups. Choose a managed service when continuous availability, data-center connectivity or simpler deployment is worth a recurring fee and the provider exposes the version and file controls your pack requires.

Troubleshooting common failures
The server exits immediately
- Run
java -versionand verify that the launcher is using 64-bit Java 8, not another installation. - Launch from the server directory so relative paths resolve correctly.
- Read the first meaningful exception in the log instead of focusing on the final shutdown message.
- Confirm that the server archive was extracted completely and that Forge libraries and configuration files are present.
- If the EULA file was generated, accept it only after reading the terms, then launch again.
A player receives a missing-mod or registry-mismatch error
Compare the exact client and server release filenames and versions. Reinstall the client from the matching project release rather than copying individual mods. A player may also have an extra client-side mod or an altered configuration; a clean instance of the exact release is the fastest comparison.
The server reports out-of-memory errors
Check the actual heap allocation in the launch script, ensure the machine has additional RAM beyond the heap, and compare usage with the player-count bands. Reduce unnecessary concurrent activity while testing. If the operating system is swapping, adding a larger heap can make responsiveness worse unless the machine has enough physical memory.
Friends cannot connect, but local players can
Check the server’s configured listening port, the router’s forwarding destination, the host firewall and the public address. Test from outside the home network. If the internet connection uses carrier-grade NAT, ask the provider whether inbound connections are possible; a correct local configuration cannot overcome an unreachable public address.
The server lags when players explore
Watch CPU, disk and memory together. New chunk generation and large automated factories can stress different resources. Test with fewer simultaneous explorers, keep the world on fast storage and avoid changing several Java or view-distance settings at once. A managed host’s NVMe or network claims should be treated as features to verify, not proof of a particular tick rate.
