To host a StoneBlock 2 server, either choose a Minecraft host that pre-installs the FTB Presents Stoneblock 2 modpack or install it from your host’s modpack panel. The key is to run a pack release with its matching Minecraft, Forge and Java versions, then have every player install the same modpack on their computer. Start with 4–6 GB of server memory and adjust if the server struggles.
What you need to run StoneBlock 2
StoneBlock 2 is the FTB Presents Stoneblock 2 modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge. The FTB listing identifies modpack version 1.23.1 as its latest version, but available listings do not establish that this is still the latest release in 2026. Check the current FTB pack listing and the version offered by your host before creating the server. Choose a server build that matches the pack release you plan to use rather than relying on a version number shown by a different provider.
- Java: The FTB page lists Java 8 as a requirement. Verify the requirement for your selected pack release, and make sure the server is actually configured to use the matching Java runtime.
- Minecraft and Forge: The pack is associated with Minecraft 1.12.2 and Forge. FTB’s changelog records an update to Forge 14.23.5.2860 and says that update patches the Log4j vulnerability. That changelog entry does not by itself establish which Forge build every available pack release or host currently uses.
- Client installation: Each player needs the same StoneBlock 2 modpack installed locally. A server running the pack does not make an unmodded Minecraft client compatible.
- Memory: Begin with about 4–6 GB allocated to the server. This is a practical starting recommendation, not a guarantee or a formal minimum.
You also need a server address that your players can reach, storage for the world and mod files, and a control panel or file access method for backups and updates. A commercial host normally supplies the network endpoint and panel. A home installation leaves you responsible for the computer, network availability, router configuration and maintenance.

Pre-installed hosting
Some providers offer StoneBlock 2 as a pre-install option. BisectHosting says that selecting StoneBlock 2 in its Minecraft selector sets up the server with the pack installed. PebbleHost offers StoneBlock 2 under “What would you like pre-installed?” at checkout. StickyPiston describes a pre-installed modded server using pack version 1.23.1 and managed through a control panel. These are provider-specific offers; check the pack release, Java and Forge versions, memory allocation, and ability to change or upgrade the pack before ordering.
Other providers that advertise StoneBlock 2 hosting include ZAP-Hosting and ServerMiner. Availability and the release shown in a panel can change, so treat a provider name as a starting point rather than a guarantee that the exact version you need is offered.

Compare providers on the details that affect whether players can join and whether you can maintain the server: the pack version offered, Java and Forge configuration, available memory tiers and pricing, whether you can browse or update server files, and how the provider handles pack upgrades. A pre-install simplifies setup, but it does not remove the need to coordinate the client and server versions.
How to compare plans and cost
There is no single StoneBlock 2 hosting price established for every provider or location. The meaningful comparison is the amount of RAM included, the price per RAM tier, storage and backup options, and whether the panel includes the modpack installation. A cheaper plan can cost more over time if it lacks the memory your group needs or requires a manual migration for every update.
- Compare plans at the same memory allocation instead of comparing the headline monthly price alone.
- Check whether the listed memory is dedicated to your server and whether the panel lets you raise it later.
- Confirm whether backups, server-file access and support for modpack upgrades are included or charged separately.
- Verify that StoneBlock 2 is available in the checkout selector, not merely mentioned on a general modded-server page.
Because the recommended allocation ranges from 4 GB for a very small group to 8–10 GB or more for larger or highly automated worlds, choose a plan that can move between those tiers. Do not pay for a larger allocation solely to compensate for a wrong Forge build or incomplete installation; memory cannot fix version incompatibility.
Installing official server files
FTB provides a server-files browser for Windows, and its changelog points to a server download section and an installer guide. The installer guide’s steps are not established here, so do not assume that a generic Minecraft server tutorial applies unchanged to this modpack. Check the instructions attached to the exact server-file release you download.
Use official files that correspond to the client release you intend to run. Keep the downloaded archive and release number recorded, and do not combine jars from one StoneBlock 2 release with configuration files from another. If you need to move the installation to a host, upload the complete server set through the host’s file manager or the method the provider documents, then let the panel complete any required setup before starting the server.

Install StoneBlock 2 from a host panel
Panel names differ between providers, but the common workflow is to select the modpack, let the host install its files, and restart the server. Confirm the Minecraft, Forge and Java versions for the intended pack release before you begin.
- Check the server’s current state. Back up any world you want to keep. If this is a new server, make sure you have selected a plan with enough memory for your group.
- Set the Java runtime. In the host’s settings or startup configuration, select Java 8 if that is the requirement for the release you chose. If the panel does not let you select a Java version, ask the provider which runtime it uses.
- Open the panel’s Modpacks tab. Search for “Stoneblock 2” or “FTB Presents Stoneblock 2.” Verify the listing and release before installing; a matching name alone does not guarantee that the server is using the version your players intend to run.
- Click Install. Allow the panel to install or upload the server files and mod jars. Do not start a different modpack installation or overwrite files while this process is running.
- Restart the server. Wait for the startup process to finish. Check the console for a successful launch and for errors indicating a missing Java runtime, incompatible Forge build, or failed mod loading.
- Install the same pack on each player’s computer. Use a launcher that provides the matching FTB Presents Stoneblock 2 release. The holy.gg guide for the original StoneBlock recommends the CurseForge launcher; it is an example of a client-side launcher, not proof that every launcher or every StoneBlock 2 release has identical installation steps.
- Connect and test. Have one player join first and confirm that the world loads and the modpack’s content is available. Then add the rest of the group.
Client setup is part of the server setup
Give players the exact pack name and release number, not just the server address. Each client should select the same Minecraft version, Forge environment and StoneBlock 2 release that the server uses. A vanilla 1.12.2 installation is still missing the mod classes and configurations required by the server. If one player receives a mod-list or handshake error, compare the launcher profile with a working player’s profile before changing server files.
Have players close Minecraft while the launcher installs or updates the profile. A partially updated client can look correct in the launcher while still containing an old jar. If the host upgrades the server, schedule the client upgrade for everyone and test one client before inviting the whole group.
How much RAM does a StoneBlock 2 server need?
There is no published benchmark or official memory figure established for every group and play style. Recommendations vary: BisectHosting suggests 4 GB for smooth operation; the holy.gg guide gives 4–5 GB for one or two players, 6–8 GB for a small group, and 8–10 GB or more for larger servers or heavy automation. Treat these as recommendations from a host and a guide, not measured guarantees or pack requirements.

Start within a suitable range for your group, then check the host panel’s memory use and server logs when players experience lag. Increasing memory may help when the server is constrained by allocation, but it will not correct a mismatched modpack, a failed mod, or every source of performance trouble. If you increase the allocation, make sure the host plan and its startup configuration actually apply the new amount.

Automation-heavy StoneBlock worlds can place more load on the server as machines, farms and explored areas accumulate. Increase the allocation only after confirming that the Java process is reaching its limit. Keep enough memory available for the operating system and panel on a self-managed machine; assigning all physical memory to Java can create a different bottleneck.
Version checks that prevent common setup failures
Listings can disagree. SparkedHost identifies Forge 1.12.2 as the compatible server version, while ServerMiner labels version 1.15.0 as “Latest Version.” Those listings do not establish that the numbers refer to the same pack release or that they are interchangeable. Use the release you intend to play and match the server’s Minecraft and Forge versions to it. Confirm the pack version with the host if its panel does not make the relationship clear.
- Do not mix client and server releases. If players cannot connect or see a mod mismatch error, compare the exact modpack release on each client with the server’s installed release.
- Check Java and Forge together. A server that fails during startup may be using an incompatible Java runtime or Forge build. Compare the startup error and the host’s configuration with the requirements for the chosen pack release.
- Check changes before upgrading. An upgrade can affect the server files and world. Back up the world first, and make sure every player can install the same new pack release before switching the server.
- Confirm the actual installed files. A panel label can remain unchanged after a failed install. Use the file browser, console startup text or provider support to verify that the intended Forge and modpack files are present.
Forge 14.23.5.2860 appears in an FTB changelog entry that also says the update patches the Log4j vulnerability. Treat that as a useful security and compatibility clue, not as proof that every StoneBlock 2 release uses that exact build. Follow the release-specific files and host configuration instead of manually substituting a Forge jar.

Let the server finish installing and loading the modpack before creating the world you plan to keep. A guide for the original StoneBlock advises creating a fresh world and starting over if modded items appear in creative mode but do not generate normally because the world was created before the pack was fully applied. That advice is not specifically verified for StoneBlock 2, so treat a new world as a troubleshooting option rather than a guaranteed fix.
- The server will not start: Read the first relevant error in the console or log. Check Java, the Forge build, the installed pack files, and whether the panel completed its installation before restarting.
- A player cannot join: Confirm the server is online and that the player’s Minecraft version and exact modpack release match the server. Have the player install the pack locally rather than attempting to join with a vanilla client.
- Pack content is missing or behaving unexpectedly in a new world: Confirm that the server launched the intended modpack successfully before generating the world. If the issue began after a partial installation or a world was created too early, back up what you need and test with a fresh world.
- An installer error appears: Reports of installer failures for StoneBlock 2 version 1.18.1 via the official FTB launcher do not establish that the same problem applies to other releases. Check the error against the exact release and installation method you are using.
- Only some players lag: Compare whether the problem follows one player or affects everyone. A server-wide issue points you toward allocation, startup errors or world load; a single-player issue points you toward that client’s installation or connection.
- The server appears to hang on first launch: Do not repeatedly interrupt installation. Modded first starts can take time while files are created. Wait for the panel’s process to finish, then inspect the console for a completed startup or a specific error.
Updating safely
Do not update the server merely because a host displays a newer number. First identify the pack release, its Minecraft and Forge combination, and whether all players can install it. Stop the server, create a restorable world backup, apply the provider’s documented update method, and start it without allowing players to join until the console completes normally.

After an update, test with one client and inspect the world before inviting everyone. If the update fails, restore the backup and the previous server files rather than mixing old and new jars. Keep a note of the working release, Java runtime and Forge build so support can reproduce the configuration.

You can run server software on a computer you control, but the available setup information does not establish router configuration or port-forwarding steps for StoneBlock 2. Those details depend on your network equipment and service. Do not expose a server by changing router settings based on instructions for a different router; consult the router vendor’s documentation for the exact model and verify the security implications.
