Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
To host SkyFactory One, install the pack’s Forge server for Minecraft 1.16.5, run it with Java 8, 11, or 14, and set topography-preset=void in server.properties before the first world is created. The latest listed pack release is 1.0.7, dated June 15, 2024. You can run the server on your own computer or choose a managed host that provides a one-click installation.
What you need before installing
SkyFactory One is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.16.5. It is not interchangeable with the older pack named SkyFactory or with SkyFactory 5. Selecting the wrong pack, Minecraft version, or Java runtime is the most common reason a server fails to start or generates the wrong world.

| Memory | At least 5 GB is a practical server starting point; use more for larger groups | Modded servers need considerably more memory than a vanilla server. |
Download the server files for the same release shown on the SkyFactory One page in CurseForge. The page lists server files for 1.0.7 and also has files for 1.0.5, so check the number before downloading. A player’s client must use the identical pack release, not merely Minecraft 1.16.5.
Choose self-hosting or a managed host
Self-hosting at home
Running the server on your own computer gives you full control over files, backups, Java arguments, and mod configuration. It also means you are responsible for port forwarding, firewall rules, uptime, operating-system updates, and protecting your home network. The computer must remain on whenever friends need to connect.
#1 Best Overall
A wired network connection is preferable. Upload speed and latency affect everyone who joins, while the server’s processor and storage determine world-generation and tick performance. A modern multi-core desktop with an SSD is usually a better server than an old laptop, even when both have the same amount of RAM.
Managed hosting
A managed Minecraft host can install SkyFactory One through its control panel, provide a public address, and keep the machine online. Look for a panel that explicitly lists SkyFactory One rather than assuming that a generic Forge installer includes the pack. The exact labels vary, but the documented workflow on supported panels is typically:
Recommended Free Tools
- Open the panel’s Game File, Modpacks, or equivalent section.
- Search for SkyFactory One, then select the required release.
- Use Change Version or the panel’s equivalent to apply that release.
- Choose Generate New World if offered, then select Restart Now.
Read the panel’s warning before applying a pack. A “fully reinstall” operation can delete the current world, configuration, and player data. Use it only for a new server or after making a complete backup.
Install a SkyFactory One server on your own computer
1. Install a supported Java runtime
Install a 64-bit Java 8, 11, or 14 runtime on the computer that will run the server. Do not select Java solely because it is the newest version: this pack’s compatibility notes exclude Java 16. If multiple Java versions are installed, identify the executable you intend to use instead of relying on the operating system’s default.
Open a terminal or command prompt and check the active runtime:
java -version
The output should show a supported major version. If it reports another version, either change the system path or use the full path to the supported Java executable in your server start script. On Windows, you can also verify which executable is being selected with:

where java
On macOS or Linux, use:
which java
2. Download the matching server files
- Open the SkyFactory One listing in CurseForge and confirm that the game version is Minecraft 1.16.5 and the loader is Forge.
- Select the latest listed release, 1.0.7, unless all players intentionally need another release.
- Download the server-files archive supplied for that release.
- Create a dedicated folder such as
SkyFactoryOneServerand extract the archive there. Do not mix it with another modpack’s files.
The archive may include a Forge installer, libraries, configuration files, mods, and a startup script. File names can change between pack releases, so follow the readme or installation notes included with the archive. Do not copy a Forge jar from a different Minecraft version.
3. Install the Forge server
Run the Forge installer included with the server package and choose the option to install a server into the dedicated server folder. The installer should place the Forge server jar and libraries alongside the pack files. If the download provides a script that performs this step, use that script rather than downloading an unrelated installer.
Forge may create a file requiring you to accept Minecraft’s EULA. Open eula.txt, read the license, and change only the agreement line to:
eula=true
Start the server once after Forge installation so it can create its initial files, then stop it cleanly from the console. Stopping with the console command rather than closing the window gives the server a chance to save chunks and player data.

With the server stopped, open server.properties in a text editor. Add this line exactly:
topography-preset=void
If a setting with that name already exists, replace its value rather than creating a duplicate. Save the file and start the server again. This setting is the documented ATLauncher instruction for generating SkyFactory One’s SkyBlock-style void world.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
Set the value before the first world is created. Changing world-generation settings after players have built a base does not convert the existing terrain. If you accidentally generated a normal world, stop the server, back up anything you need, remove or rename the generated world directory, confirm the property, and generate a new world. Deleting a world is permanent unless a backup exists.
You may encounter guides that use level-type=voidworld. That setting is not established here as the correct SkyFactory One method; prefer the documented topography-preset=void property.
5. Allocate memory and start the server
CurseForge lists 4 GB as a client recommendation. A server needs room for the Forge runtime, mod code, loaded chunks, automation networks, and player activity, so begin with about 5 GB and increase it for a larger group or a busy base. Leave enough RAM for the operating system and other services; assigning nearly all physical memory can make performance worse.
The supplied start script is the safest way to launch the pack because it uses the jar and arguments expected by that release. If you need to create your own script, use the exact Forge jar filename in the server folder and replace the memory values with numbers appropriate for your machine:
java -Xms5G -Xmx5G -jar <the-Forge-server-jar-name> nogui
The angle-bracket text is a placeholder for the actual filename installed by Forge; do not type the brackets literally. Keep -Xms and -Xmx equal while troubleshooting so the allocation is predictable. If the server reports that the jar cannot be found, run the command from the server folder or use an absolute path.
After startup, wait until the console reports that the server is ready before connecting. The first launch can take longer while Forge builds caches and generates files. The console is also where you will see missing-mod, Java, memory, and world-generation errors.

Configure networking for friends
Local testing
First test from the same computer or home network. This separates a modpack problem from an Internet connectivity problem. Players on the same network can usually connect using the server computer’s local IP address. The host computer itself can often use localhost.
Internet access
For players outside your home, forward the Minecraft server port configured in server.properties from your router to the server computer’s local IP address. Keep that local IP reserved in the router so the forwarding rule does not break after a reboot. Allow the Java server through the operating system firewall, but do not disable the firewall entirely.
Give friends your public address and port only after testing from an outside connection. Never publish your home address in a public chat. If your Internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, ordinary port forwarding may not work; in that case, use a managed host or a private network overlay that you trust.
Make every player use the same client
Each player should install SkyFactory One through a launcher that supports the pack, such as CurseForge or ATLauncher. Select SkyFactory One itself, not the similarly named original SkyFactory pack or SkyFactory 5. Confirm that the launcher shows Minecraft 1.16.5, Forge, and the same pack release as the server.

- Copying only the server’s
modsfolder is not a complete client installation; configuration and dependency files may also matter. - A client on a different release can fail during the handshake, disconnect immediately, or load a different set of recipes and world behavior.
- Players should use a supported Java line for the client as well as the server.
- Do not add extra mods until the unmodified pack connects successfully. Test additions one at a time and keep a record so you can remove the one that causes a mismatch.
Recommended server settings and operating routine
Keep the first configuration conservative
Leave gameplay and world settings at their pack defaults until the server is stable. Change one property at a time, restart cleanly, and document the change. A configuration copied from a different SkyFactory edition can refer to blocks, dimensions, or mods that do not exist in SkyFactory One.
Back up before updates
Stop the server before copying the world. Back up the world directory, server.properties, the config directory, and any scripts or custom files. Keep at least one backup away from the server computer. For a heavily automated base, retain several dated backups because a bad chunk, accidental deletion, or mod change may not be noticed immediately.
Best Value
Update deliberately
Do not replace individual jars from another release to “patch” the server. Install the complete server files for the target pack release, compare the included configuration, and test the copy before switching players to it. Keep the old server folder intact until everyone has confirmed that the new world and existing saves work.
Monitor performance
Watch the console for repeated errors, out-of-memory messages, and long pauses. If the server struggles, first check that it is using the intended Java executable and that the machine has free memory. Reduce the number of simultaneously loaded chunks and automated machines before raising the maximum memory allocation. More RAM cannot fix a mod conflict or an overloaded processor.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTroubleshooting common failures
The server exits immediately
- Run
java -versionand confirm the runtime is one of the pack’s supported Java lines. - Read the first error in the console rather than the final “server stopped” line; the final line is usually only a consequence.
- Confirm that you launched the Forge server jar supplied for Minecraft 1.16.5, not a vanilla jar or a jar from another pack.
- Check that the command is running from the folder containing the libraries and mods.
Players receive a mod or version mismatch
Compare the server’s pack release with the launcher profile on the affected computer. Reinstall the same SkyFactory One release on the client instead of copying random jars. If only one player fails, have that player create a clean launcher instance and test without added mods.
The world is not a void SkyBlock
Stop the server and inspect server.properties. Confirm that topography-preset=void appears once and is spelled exactly. If the world already exists, changing the property will not rebuild it; use a backup or remove the world only after confirming that no required data remains.
The server is laggy or runs out of memory
- Check the actual memory available to the operating system, not only the amount installed.
- Start with a sensible allocation around 5 GB and increase it only when the server and operating system have headroom.
- Ask players to avoid loading huge areas simultaneously while the world is generating.
- Inspect automation and chunk-loading devices in the busiest bases.
- Use the pack’s supplied scripts and avoid stacking multiple Java garbage-collection tweaks before establishing a baseline.
A hosted reinstall removed the world
Panel reinstall tools can erase server data. Stop making changes and check the host’s backup area before creating a new world. If no backup exists, the deleted save may not be recoverable. Future updates should be performed only after downloading a copy of the world and configuration.
Do not confuse SkyFactory One with other packs
| Pack name | Game version or status | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| SkyFactory One | Minecraft 1.16.5, Forge | Use the instructions in this guide. |
| Original “Sky Factory” listing | Minecraft 1.7.10 and no longer supported | Do not use its Java, Forge, or server instructions for SkyFactory One. |
| SkyFactory 5 | Minecraft 1.20.1 and Java 17 | It is a separate pack with different requirements. |
The similar names are especially dangerous when downloading server files. Always verify the pack title, Minecraft version, Forge loader, and release number together.
A practical launch checklist
- Confirm that both server and clients use SkyFactory One 1.0.7, or deliberately selected the same alternate release.
- Verify Minecraft 1.16.5 and Forge in the launcher and server files.
- Verify the Java executable and supported major version on the machine running each instance.
- Run the Forge installer or supplied installation script in a dedicated folder.
- Accept the EULA only after reading it, then start and stop the server cleanly.
- Set
topography-preset=voidbefore generating the first world. - Allocate approximately 5 GB initially, leaving operating-system memory available.
- Test locally before configuring router forwarding.
- Back up the world and configuration before upgrades or panel reinstalls.
- Give players the exact pack profile rather than a folder assembled from individual mods.
Which hosting approach is right for you?
Self-hosting is appropriate when you are comfortable managing Java, firewall rules, router settings, backups, and downtime. It costs no separate hosting fee, but the electricity, Internet connection, administration, and recovery work are yours.
A managed host is preferable when you need a public server online continuously or do not want to expose a home network. Confirm the host’s listed SkyFactory One release, memory allocation, backup policy, file access, and reinstall behavior before paying. Pricing and included resources differ by provider and can change, so treat the panel’s current specification as authoritative.
Whichever route you choose, the technical essentials do not change: Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge, a supported Java runtime, matching client and server files, and the void-world property set before generation.
