To host a Satisfactory multiplayer world in 2026, install the dedicated-server software on a 64-bit Windows or Linux machine, start it, allow its traffic through the host firewall and router, and then verify the server-manager workflow and port requirements for your installed 1.2 build. Satisfactory 1.2 launched on June 2, 2026, and update 1.2.4.0 was published on August 11, 2026, so older port guides should not be treated as confirmed 1.2 documentation.

The procedure below separates what is established from what still needs checking in the current build. It gives you a reliable installation path without presenting 1.1 networking notes as guaranteed 1.2 settings.

What changed for Satisfactory hosting in 2026?

The current major release identified in the official announcement index is version 1.2. Coffee Stain lists “Satisfactory 1.2 Update out now!” dated June 2, 2026, followed by 1.2.4.0 fixes on August 11, 2026. That matters because dedicated-server arguments, port allocation, supported operating systems and the in-game server manager can change between major versions.

The installation routes and cross-store compatibility described below are documented by the official community wiki, but its available page excerpt does not prove that every hardware or port detail was revised for 1.2. Before opening ports permanently, check the current Dedicated servers documentation and the release notes for the exact build you installed.

  • [Games need exclusions and runtimes, not malware]Some customers ask why our retro game drives can trigger Windows Security warnings. Many game files are older DLLs that Windows Defender sometimes flags as threats. They are not viruses or malware—just old or uncommon code causing false positives. We temporarily add them to the exclusion list so they aren't blocked, then re-enable Security to keep your PC protected. Many classic games also need legacy VC++ and DirectX runtimes, which modern Windows doesn't include by default. Installing them ensures compatibility and smooth play. Your safety matters to us—these are safe, standard steps for retro games.

Choose where the server will run

Self-host on a machine you control

A home PC, spare workstation or rented virtual machine gives you direct control of the server files, launch arguments, save backups, operating-system updates and network rules. It is the least expensive route when suitable hardware and an adequate internet connection are already available, but you are responsible for power, patching, firewall configuration and recovery when the machine or connection fails.

Use a managed game-server service

A managed provider can supply an always-on machine, web-based administration and automated maintenance. You trade some file and configuration control for a recurring fee and must confirm that the provider supports Satisfactory 1.2, your desired player count and the current dedicated-server build. You still need to understand the server’s ports and backup policy, especially if you later migrate the save.

One option is Godlike.Host’s Satisfactory server hosting, which comes with free DDoS protection, up to three free backups a day with restore, a Pterodactyl-based game panel and 24/7 support by live chat or ticket. See the current plans, and confirm that the server runs your installed 1.2 build before you order.

Consideration Self-hosting Managed hosting
Recurring cost No hosting fee beyond electricity, internet service or a virtual-machine bill Monthly charge; exact pricing and 1.2 availability vary by provider
File and launch control Full control of binaries, saves, arguments and operating-system access Depends on the provider’s panel and file-access policy
Updates and backups You schedule and verify them May be automated, but retention and restore procedures must be checked
Networking effort You configure the host firewall, router and any NAT mapping The provider normally supplies a reachable address, although firewall rules may still be exposed in its panel

Prerequisites and compatibility checks

  • Use a 64-bit x86-64 Windows or Linux system. The wiki lists Windows 10/11 and Windows Server editions, plus distributions such as Debian and Ubuntu; verify that your exact 1.2 build still supports the operating-system version you select.
  • Plan for a recent x86-64 processor, at least 8 GB of RAM as a rough community baseline, and about 16 GB for larger saves or more than four players. These are guidance figures, not a guaranteed 1.2 specification.
  • Do not plan on ARM hardware: the available dedicated-server guidance says ARM is unsupported.
  • Give the machine a stable local address, preferably a DHCP reservation in the router, so forwarding rules do not point at a different device after a reboot.
  • Keep enough disk space for the server installation, save files, logs, updates and at least one backup copy.
  • Ensure the host can remain online and that your internet service permits inbound connections. Carrier-grade NAT or a provider-level firewall can prevent public hosting even when local settings are correct.

Install the dedicated-server software

The software can be obtained through the Steam client, SteamCMD or the Epic Games Store. The server binary’s storefront does not have to match the storefront used by connecting PC players.

Steam client

  1. Open Steam on the machine that will run the server.
  2. Use Steam’s library search to find the Satisfactory dedicated-server tool rather than the normal game client.
  3. Choose an installation directory with sufficient space and wait for the download to complete.
  4. Record that directory; you will need it when launching the server, locating logs and backing up saves.

Steam’s graphical client is convenient for a desktop host, but a headless machine is usually easier to maintain with SteamCMD or a provider’s deployment system.

SteamCMD

The wiki identifies SteamCMD App ID 1690800. Its Linux example is:

Rank #2
SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition - PC
  • Create, build and run the most realistic city you can imagine
  • Connect your metropolis with other cities you've created to form a massive region of SimCities
  • Sculpt mountains, gouge valleys, and seed forests
  • Deploy police cruisers and fire trucks to the scene
  • For 1 player
steamcmd +force_install_dir ~/SatisfactoryDedicatedServer +login anonymous +app_update 1690800 validate +quit

The command downloads or updates the files, validates them and exits. Replace ~/SatisfactoryDedicatedServer with a deliberate absolute or home-relative path; do not paste a sample path if it would place the server in an unexpected account or disk. On a new machine, install SteamCMD using the package method documented for your distribution, create the destination directory, run the command as the account that will own the files, and check that the update completes without an error. Run the same update command when you intentionally patch the server, after making a save backup.

Epic Games Store

The dedicated-server software is also distributed through Epic. Use the store’s current dedicated-server listing and installation location, then confirm the installed files correspond to the same major version as the players’ clients. The available evidence establishes the installation route, but not a universal 1.2 command line or directory layout for every operating system.

Start the server and identify its files

  1. Launch the dedicated-server executable from the directory chosen during installation. Use the launch method supplied with the current 1.2 documentation for your operating system.
  2. Watch the console or log output for a clean startup and note the address, ports and save location it reports.
  3. Allow the executable through the host operating system’s firewall when prompted, restricting the rule to the required network profiles rather than opening every application.
  4. Stop the process cleanly before copying saves or changing binaries. Abrupt termination can leave a save in an unusable state.

Do not assume that a server process appearing in Task Manager or a terminal means remote access is working. Reachability requires the host firewall, router forwarding and the server’s own advertised external-port settings to agree.

Ports: what is known, and what must be rechecked for 1.2

The published port instructions available for this guide come from Coffee Stain’s official Satisfactory 1.1 dedicated-server port-forwarding announcement from June 2025. They are useful reference values, not confirmation of the 1.2 configuration.

Function Published 1.1 value How to treat it in 2026
Regular game traffic Port 7777, using TCP and UDP Check the 1.2 server documentation before forwarding it
Reliable messaging TCP 8888 by default for a single server Check whether 1.2 retains the port and protocol
Reliable-port allocation Search begins at 8888 across a configurable range of up to 512 ports Do not open a broad range until the current 1.2 allocation rules are confirmed

Coffee Stain’s 1.1 announcement states: “If hosting a single server, port 8888 TCP must be open by default.” The quote is explicitly a 1.1 statement. Version 1.2 requirements were not verified in the available material, so use the current documentation or the ports printed by your server rather than copying an old firewall recipe unchanged.

Configure the firewall and router

Once you have the 1.2 port list, create matching rules in both places: the operating-system firewall on the server and the internet router. A rule in only one of them is insufficient.

  1. Assign or reserve the server’s local IPv4 address in the router.
  2. In the router’s port-forwarding screen, create entries for each required protocol and external port, targeting that local address. Keep the external and internal numbers identical unless you have a reason to remap them.
  3. In Windows Defender Firewall or your Linux firewall, allow the same inbound TCP or UDP ports for the dedicated-server executable or service.
  4. Apply the router changes and restart the server if its documentation requires a restart after network changes.
  5. Test from a network outside your home LAN, such as a phone hotspot. Testing only from the same Wi-Fi can succeed through local routing even when public forwarding is broken.

Do not expose administrative services such as remote desktop, SSH or a database to the entire internet merely to make the game server work. Restrict administration to a VPN, trusted source addresses or your provider’s secure console, and keep the operating system patched.

Handle NAT port remapping correctly

The 1.1 notes warn that forwarding an external port to a different internal port can break connection setup unless the server knows the external value. If your router maps, for example, one public reliable-messaging port to another local port, configure the server’s external reliable port or range using the documented -ExternalReliablePort= or ExternalPortRangeBegin setting. Use the exact spelling and syntax accepted by your current 1.2 build.

A common failure pattern is a server that starts normally and appears reachable, while remote players fail during the final connection stage. That often indicates that the initial game port is forwarded but the reliable-messaging port advertised by the server does not match the public NAT mapping. Eliminate remapping first; if remapping is unavoidable, make the external setting and router rule correspond exactly.

Connect Steam and Epic PC players

Steam and Epic PC clients can connect to the same dedicated server. The dedicated-server wiki states that the client’s store and the source of the server binary do not have to match. Have each player install the same current game major version, then use the connection method and server address exposed by the current server manager.

Do not extend that statement to consoles. The available dedicated-server guidance says dedicated servers are unavailable for console releases. A general store description of cross-platform play is not proof that a console client can join a dedicated server, so confirm console support separately before promising it to a group.

Server-manager and save setup: verify the 1.2 workflow

The available sources do not establish a complete, current 1.2 sequence for claiming a server, creating an administrator password or selecting a save. Do not rely on menu names copied from a 1.1 video. After the process is running, open the server-management interface described in the 1.2 documentation, claim the server if required, set a strong unique administrator credential, select or create the intended world, and record the displayed connection information.

Performance planning

CPU and simulation load

Satisfactory’s factory simulation can be sensitive to single-thread CPU performance. More players, larger factories, extensive automation and a growing save can increase simulation work even when average network bandwidth is modest. The community baseline of a recent x86-64 CPU is therefore only a starting point; watch CPU utilization, simulation timing and player reports after the world grows.

Memory and storage

Use 8 GB of RAM as a rough minimum recommendation from the wiki, and consider 16 GB when the save is large or more than four players will join. Leave headroom for the operating system, updates and backup copies. Store active saves on reliable local storage, and keep backups on a separate disk or machine so a filesystem failure does not destroy both the live world and its recovery copy.

Connection capacity

An always-on server needs stable upstream connectivity and low interruption, not merely a high download speed. If players report rubber-banding or disconnects, check upstream saturation, packet loss and router load before changing game settings. A wired connection to the host is preferable to a marginal Wi-Fi link.

Updating without losing the world

  1. Announce maintenance to players and stop the server cleanly.
  2. Copy the complete save directory and any custom configuration or launch scripts.
  3. Record the current version and the destination of the backup.
  4. Update through Steam, SteamCMD or Epic. With SteamCMD, rerun the validated App ID command after changing the install path only if you intend to deploy a new copy.
  5. Read the 1.2.x release notes for save or networking changes before restarting publicly.
  6. Start the server, confirm the expected save and ports, and test with one player before reopening it to everyone.

Never overwrite the only known-good installation during an experiment. A parallel directory or a full backup gives you a rollback option if an update or configuration change prevents startup.

Troubleshooting checklist

Symptom Likely checks
Server will not start Confirm the executable matches the operating system and current build, inspect the first error in the log, check file permissions and rerun a validated installation update.
Players on the same LAN can join, but internet players cannot Verify the host firewall, the router’s target local address, public-IP changes, carrier-grade NAT and testing from an external network.
Players connect initially but fail during setup Compare the reliable-messaging port advertised by the server with the router’s external mapping. Remove NAT remapping or configure the documented external-port argument.
Only one storefront’s PC players can join Check that clients are on the same current game version and that the connection method is the dedicated-server workflow; storefront matching is not required for supported PC cross-play.
World appears to have rolled back Stop the server cleanly, identify the active save directory, inspect timestamps and restore the newest verified backup only after preserving the current files.
Performance degrades as the factory grows Measure single-thread CPU load, RAM pressure, storage activity, player count and upstream saturation; move the server to faster x86-64 hardware if the host is the bottleneck.

Pre-launch checklist

  • Version 1.2.x is installed on both server and clients.
  • The current 1.2 documentation has been checked for ports, allocation behavior, hardware support and server-manager steps.
  • The server has a stable local address and a tested external connection.
  • Every required TCP and UDP rule exists in both the router and host firewall.
  • Any NAT port remapping is reflected in the server’s external-port configuration.
  • A strong administrator credential is set through the current documented workflow.
  • The intended save opens successfully after a clean restart.
  • A dated backup exists outside the live save directory.
  • Players understand whether they are connecting from supported PC storefronts; console participation has not been assumed.

The Bottom Line

For 2026, install the dedicated server with Steam, SteamCMD or Epic, but treat port numbers, hardware guidance and server-manager instructions as version-sensitive. The reliable path is to verify those items against the current Satisfactory 1.2 documentation, then align the server, host firewall and router—including any external-port mapping—before inviting Steam and Epic PC players.
