Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
To host RagnaMod VI In the Sky, download the matching 6.0.4 server-files archive from its official CurseForge project, extract it to a dedicated directory, run the included Forge startup process, allocate about 8 GB of RAM, and select an island template before the first world is generated. Every player must use the same Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge pack version and mod list as the server.
RagnaMod VI is a large skyblock pack—its author describes more than 300 mods and a substantial quest book—so preparation, memory allocation and backups matter more than they do for a small vanilla server.

RagnaMod VI In the Sky is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.16.5. The latest release listed by CurseForge is version 6.0.4, released December 20, 2022. The matching server distribution is named RagnamodVISky-Serverfiles-6.0.4.zip. Downloading a server archive that does not match the client pack is the most common avoidable cause of connection errors.
The author describes the pack as a skyblock experience with “a LOT of Quests” spanning technology, exploration and magic. With more than 300 mods, the server must load many registries, recipes, dimensions and data files before players can begin. A normal Minecraft client’s mods folder is not a substitute for the server archive: the ZIP contains the server-side distribution, scripts and configuration needed to create and run the world.
#1 Best Overall
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Use the official project distribution
CurseForge marks the pack as All Rights Reserved. Download the server files from the official project listing, keep the filename and version visible while setting up, and follow the project’s distribution terms. Do not re-upload the archive as a mirror or redistribute modified copies as if they were official.
Server files versus client files
- Server files:
RagnamodVISky-Serverfiles-6.0.4.zip, extracted into the machine that will run the server. - Client pack: the 6.0.4 Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge profile installed separately for each player.
- Configuration: the extracted server directory, including the
configfolder and the supplied startup scripts.
Do not put the server ZIP in a client’s mods folder and do not ask players to copy the server directory wholesale into their game installation. The two sides need equivalent mod content, but they serve different purposes.

MLDEG’s published guidance lists 5–6 GB of allocated RAM as the minimum and 8–10 GB as the recommended allocation. These figures are allocated to the Java process, not the total physical memory in the computer. On a personal PC, leave additional memory for the operating system, desktop, storage cache and any other programs.
| Use case | Starting allocation | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum test or very small group | 5–6 GB | Matches the author’s minimum guidance; expect less headroom for world generation and simultaneous exploration. |
| Typical private server | About 8 GB | A practical starting point within the author’s 8–10 GB recommendation. |
| Larger group or heavy exploration | 8–10 GB | Use the upper end only when the host has additional physical memory and monitoring shows the workload needs it. |
More allocated memory does not automatically fix every lag problem. A server can still stall during chunk generation, dimension travel or a large number of entities if the CPU, storage or simulation workload is the bottleneck. Start near 8 GB, watch memory use and garbage-collection pauses, then adjust in small steps rather than assigning nearly all system RAM to Java.
JVM settings
The supplied startup script normally contains the Java memory flags. Edit its -Xms and -Xmx values rather than creating a second launcher with guessed filenames. For an 8 GB allocation, set both values consistently in the script and retain enough unallocated RAM for the host operating system. If the script includes additional Forge or performance flags, leave them intact unless you understand their effect.

CPU, storage and network considerations
- Use a modern, sustained-performance CPU. A high core count does not guarantee better tick performance if the main simulation thread is slow.
- Install the server on reliable local storage with free space for the world, logs, backups and temporary files. A solid-state drive generally makes startup and chunk loading less disruptive than a heavily loaded hard disk.
- Keep the host connected by wired networking when possible. If the server is behind a router, configure the game port and firewall according to the port shown in the server configuration and your operating system; do not expose unrelated services.
- Make sure the host can remain powered and connected for the hours your group expects to play. A managed host may be preferable when home upload bandwidth, power reliability or router access is limited.
Self-hosting: complete setup procedure
1. Download and verify the archive
- Open the official RagnaMod VI In the Sky project page on CurseForge.
- Download the server-files archive whose filename and version match the client pack:
RagnamodVISky-Serverfiles-6.0.4.zip. - Check that the download completed fully and that the version shown by the client launcher is also 6.0.4. Keep the original ZIP untouched so you can extract a clean copy if a configuration experiment goes wrong.
2. Extract into a dedicated directory
Create a folder used only for this server, such as a directory on a data drive with regular backups. Extract the ZIP there rather than into a desktop, a client profile or the operating-system program directory. The extracted folder should contain the supplied scripts, Forge files, configuration folders and server properties created during first launch.
Give the account running the server read and write access to this directory. Avoid editing files while the server is running; many settings are written to disk only during a clean shutdown.
3. Read the supplied launch instructions
Open the startup scripts and any included Forge installer notes before launching. They identify the expected Java command, working directory and any platform-specific differences. The official pack page does not publish a guaranteed Java runtime version or a player-capacity benchmark, so use the runtime required by the included scripts and verify it against current Forge documentation for the operating system you are using.
4. Start once and accept the EULA
- Run the supplied startup script from the extracted server directory.
- When the process creates an EULA file and stops or prompts for acceptance, open that file and change the EULA setting only if you agree to Minecraft’s terms.
- Run the same supplied startup process again and wait for the server to finish loading. The first launch may take substantially longer while Forge and the pack build caches and registries.
- Stop the server with its console stop command. Do not close the terminal window or kill the process while it is saving the world.
5. Set memory before creating a real world
With the process stopped, edit the script’s JVM flags to provide the chosen allocation. The author’s range is 5–6 GB minimum and 8–10 GB recommended; an 8 GB starting value is sensible for a small group when the host has adequate physical memory. Save the script, start the server and confirm in the console that Java launches with the intended values.
6. Choose the skyblock island template before first generation
RagnaMod VI uses Skyblock Builder templates. The template must be selected before the server generates the first world:

- Stop the server cleanly if it is running.
- Open the extracted server directory’s
configine block builderfolder? No—the required path isconfig. Use the exact folder supplied by the pack:
yblockbuilderconfig.
yblockbuilder - Open the templates folder and identify the island design you want.
- Copy the selected template file into the configuration location.
- Rename the copied file exactly to
template.nbt, replacing the existingconfig.
yblockbuilder emplate.nbt - Start the server and create the world. New islands will use the replacement template.
Use the exact configuration path and filename from the pack. A typo in the folder name or an extra extension such as template.nbt.nbt can make the server ignore the selection. If the world already exists, replacing the template does not retroactively rebuild islands that have been generated; make the choice before initial world creation or create a fresh test world after backing up the existing one.
7. Test locally before inviting players
- Connect from the same machine or local network using the address appropriate to your host.
- Confirm that the skyblock world opens, the selected island appears and the quest book loads.
- Travel far enough to generate a few chunks and check the console for repeated errors.
- Stop the server cleanly, make a backup of the working directory, then start it again to verify that the world and player data persist.
Only after this test should you share the server address. Give players the exact pack version and any documented custom files, not merely a general instruction to “install RagnaMod.”
Installing the matching client
Every player should install the Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge profile for the same RagnaMod VI release as the server. The client and server mod lists must remain aligned, especially after you add, remove or replace a mod.
- Use the same release number, currently 6.0.4 in the latest listing cited above.
- Do not add OptiFine: the official pack guidance says RagnaMod VI is not compatible with it.
- Do not copy an individual player’s experimental mods to the server without checking whether the pack supports them.
- After a custom change, distribute the same change to every client and record what changed so you can roll it back.
WinterNode’s RagnaMod VI guidance also stresses matching client and server mod lists. A mismatch can appear as a missing-mod error, a registry conflict, a disconnect during login or a world that loads with missing blocks. Comparing the filenames in the client and server mods folders is a useful first check, but configuration files and Forge version must match as well.
Managed hosting option
A managed host removes much of the operating-system, network and backup work, usually in exchange for a recurring fee and less control over the underlying machine. Confirm the current price, location, renewal terms and resource limits directly with the provider because those details change.

CreeperHost installation flow
CreeperHost documents a dashboard-based process: create a Minecraft Java server, name the instance, search for “Ragnamod VI In the Sky” and install it. Its page lists one-click installation and updates plus backup and world-management tools. The listed minimum tier is 4,500 MB of RAM. That is below the pack author’s recommended 8–10 GB allocation, so check the available upgrade tiers before committing if several players will explore simultaneously.
WinterNode’s advertised setup
WinterNode advertises Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge hosting with RagnaMod VI preinstalled, recommends 8 GB of RAM and provides SFTP/file access. It states that backups run twice daily with 45 days of history and recommends making a manual backup before updates. SFTP access is useful when you need to replace an island template, inspect logs or upload a controlled configuration change instead of waiting for a support ticket.

| Decision factor | Self-hosted machine | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Cost pattern | Upfront hardware or use of an existing PC, plus electricity and internet costs; no hosting subscription is required. | Recurring fee; current prices and renewal terms vary by provider and are not fixed by the pack. |
| File and mod control | Full access to scripts, configs, templates and the operating system. | Usually includes a control panel and file access, but provider policies may limit system-level changes. |
| Backups and rollback | You must design, schedule and test your own backups. | Dashboard backups may be available; verify retention, frequency and whether manual snapshots are supported. |
| RAM and CPU headroom | Limited by your hardware; you can upgrade components but must manage them. | Choose a plan with enough RAM and suitable CPU allocation; a 4,500 MB minimum tier is not the same as the pack’s 8–10 GB recommendation. |
| Network reliability | Depends on your home connection, router, power and firewall configuration. | Datacenter connectivity and uptime are handled by the provider, subject to its service terms. |
| Maintenance effort | You install Forge, apply updates, read logs and secure the host yourself. | One-click pack installation and provider tooling reduce routine work, but you still control version changes and player compatibility. |
Choose self-hosting when you want unrestricted file access, already own a capable always-on machine and are comfortable maintaining backups and networking. Choose managed hosting when predictable availability, simpler installation or off-site backups are worth the monthly fee.

Make a restorable backup
Stop the server cleanly before copying its world, player data, configuration and scripts. Store at least one copy outside the live server directory. A backup is useful only if you can restore it, so periodically test by extracting it into a separate test directory and starting that copy without exposing it to players.
Back up before every version or mod change
WinterNode notes that major version jumps can change mod data and recommends a manual backup before updates. Apply the same rule to adding or removing mods, changing Forge files, replacing an island template or editing world-generation settings. Keep the old server directory until the new version has been tested.

Update clients and server together
- Announce a maintenance window and stop player access.
- Make a complete backup.
- Update the server files and document the exact version.
- Update one test client to the same version and mod list.
- Start the server, inspect the console and verify a backup copy of the world.
- Only then ask the rest of the group to update.
If the update fails, stop the server, restore the previous directory and backup, and have players return to the previous client profile. Do not attempt repeated launches against the only copy of an important world.

The server stops immediately
- Read the console output and the latest log rather than repeatedly double-clicking the script.
- Check that you launched the supplied script from the extracted server directory.
- Confirm the EULA setting has been accepted.
- Use the Java runtime expected by the included Forge instructions; the pack page does not promise one universal runtime version.
- Verify that the script’s memory flags are valid for the host’s available physical RAM.
Players receive a missing-mod or registry error
Compare the client and server pack release, Forge version, mod filenames and custom configuration. Remove OptiFine, which the official pack guidance identifies as incompatible. If you recently changed a mod, restore the last known-good backup and retest with a single controlled change.
The selected island does not appear
Stop the server and verify that the chosen file is in the templates folder, that it was copied to the exact Skyblock Builder configuration path and that it was renamed precisely to template.nbt. A template change affects newly generated worlds; it does not replace islands already stored in an existing world. Test the template on a new world rather than deleting the live world.
The server runs out of memory or pauses heavily
- Check the Java process allocation and begin near the author’s recommended 8 GB if the host has enough physical RAM.
- Leave memory for the operating system and avoid assigning all installed RAM to Java.
- Reduce simultaneous exploration and heavy automation while testing; these actions increase chunk and simulation load.
- Review logs for repeated errors and confirm that storage is not full.
- If the host cannot provide 8–10 GB with operating-system headroom, move to a larger machine or managed plan rather than relying on an extreme memory allocation.
The world or quests are missing after a restart
Check that you restarted the same extracted directory and did not launch a second copy elsewhere. Confirm that the world, player data, configuration and quest files are writable and that the server was stopped cleanly. Restore the last verified backup if files were deleted or corrupted.
