Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
To host a Prominence II: Hasturian Era server, download the server pack that matches your players’ exact modpack release, run it with Fabric for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Java 17, accept the Minecraft EULA, give a small private group about 6–8 GB of memory, and make the server port reachable. Every player must install the identical Prominence II release; a normal client profile is not a substitute for the server pack.
The project page currently lists version 4.1.3 for Minecraft 1.20.1 and provides a separate server-pack file. Releases can change, so select the same version for the server and all clients rather than copying the version number in this guide blindly.

Prominence II: Hasturian Era is a large modded Minecraft Java Edition pack. Cinderstone Studios describes it that way on its hosting information, and the current project listing identifies Fabric rather than Forge as the loader for Minecraft 1.20.1.
| Item | What to use | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Modpack | Prominence II: Hasturian Era, with the same release on server and clients | Mods, configuration files and world behavior must line up. |
| Current listed release | v4.1.3 at the time of this guide (2026) | The project page can publish a newer release; always verify the selected file. |
| Minecraft | 1.20.1 | The listed pack release is built for this Minecraft version. |
| Mod loader | Fabric | A Forge installation will not load this server pack correctly. |
| Java | Java 17 | Setup guidance for this pack identifies Java 17 as the runtime. |
| Server files | The dedicated server pack from the project’s Files or Additional Files area | A client profile contains files that belong on players’ computers and is not the dedicated server distribution. |
| Memory | Start around 6–8 GB for a small private group | This is a planning range from hosting guidance, not a universal requirement. |
| Network | TCP port 25565 is the normal Minecraft listening port | Friends outside your home network need the port allowed through the host firewall and router. |
Where to download the Hasturian Era server pack
Use the official Prominence II project page on CurseForge. Open the project’s Files area, then look for Additional Files and choose the server pack for the exact release you intend to run. The server archive is separate from the ordinary client download.
#1 Best Overall
- DELUXE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, three Bedrock add-ons, three exclusive Character Creator items, and 700 Minecoins.
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.
- SURVIVE THE ADVENTURE — Face mysterious foes, travel across exciting landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).
For example, if the project page shows v4.1.3 for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Fabric, select the v4.1.3 server pack rather than an older archive or a client profile. Record the release number before downloading. You will use that number when installing the client pack and when diagnosing join errors.
- Do not rename a client instance and treat it as a server pack.
- Do not mix a server pack from one release with clients on another release.
- Do not remove server files merely because they are not present in your launcher’s client profile; the dedicated archive is assembled for server use.
How to host Prominence II yourself
1. Create a dedicated server folder
Make a new folder on the machine that will remain online, such as a folder reserved for this world. Keeping the server separate from downloads and from a personal client installation makes backups, updates and rollback much safer.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDownload the matching server archive and extract it into that folder. Avoid extracting a second copy over an existing world until you have a backup. If the archive includes a HOW_TO_RUN.md file, read it before launching; it is the pack-specific reference for the supplied scripts and settings.
2. Install and verify Java 17
Install a Java 17 runtime suitable for the operating system that will run the server. Open a terminal or command prompt in any location and run:
java -version
The output should identify Java 17. If it reports a different major version, the supplied start script may call the wrong runtime or fail during startup. Correct the system path or the script’s Java setting before troubleshooting mods.
3. Start the Fabric server with the supplied script
Run the start script included in the extracted server pack, following the instructions in HOW_TO_RUN.md. The script is preferable to inventing a command because it can include the correct Fabric launcher, libraries and memory settings for this release.

- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.

On the first launch, the server normally creates configuration files and then stops or refuses to continue until the EULA is accepted. That first run is useful: it confirms that Java can start the pack and reveals the folder in which the world and logs will be stored.
4. Accept the Minecraft EULA
Stop the process if it is still open. In the server folder, open eula.txt, change the agreement line to:
eula=true
Save the file and run the supplied start script again. Accepting the EULA is required before the server can remain running. If the file changes back or the server cannot read it, check that you edited the copy in the active server directory and that the account running the script has permission to read and write that folder.
5. Choose an initial memory allocation
For a small private group, begin with approximately 6–8 GB of heap, while leaving memory for the operating system and other services. This range is a practical starting recommendation from hosting guidance, not an official minimum or a guarantee that every world will perform identically.
Use the setting documented by the supplied start script or HOW_TO_RUN.md. Do not assign all physical RAM to Java. A machine with 8 GB total cannot safely give the server the full 8 GB because the operating system, Java process and networking also need memory.
Watch the server during the activities that create the most work: exploring new terrain, building a large base, entering dungeons and fighting bosses. Increase memory only when monitoring shows memory pressure and the machine still has adequate headroom. More allocated RAM does not repair a wrong Java version, a mismatched modpack or a slow processor.

- Play with up to four friends or brave the dungeons alone. Battle new-and-nasty mobs across action-packed, wildly varied levels, in a quest to defeat the evil Arch-Illager!
6. Test locally before opening the server to friends
With the server running, connect from the same machine or local network using the address appropriate to that network. Confirm that the world loads, the expected mods appear and a new area can generate. Testing locally separates pack and Java problems from router and internet problems.
Stop the server cleanly before moving files or changing settings. A clean shutdown lets Minecraft save chunks and reduces the chance of a damaged world after an interrupted write.

7. Allow the listening port
The normal Minecraft port is TCP 25565. Allow that port in the operating system firewall on the server computer. If friends are connecting from outside your home network, create a router port-forwarding rule that sends TCP 25565 to the server computer’s local address.
Give remote players the public address and port, not the private address used inside your home network. Some internet connections use carrier-grade NAT or block inbound connections; in that case, ordinary port forwarding may not work and a managed host or another network arrangement may be necessary.
Only expose the port you need. Keep the server operating system updated, use a strong account password, and do not run unrelated downloads or unknown software in the server directory.
How much RAM does Prominence II need?
There is no authoritative universal RAM figure for every Prominence II world. Player count, view distance, the amount of unexplored terrain, automation, structures, dimensions and boss encounters all affect resource use. Provider guidance in 2026 commonly starts a small group at about 6–8 GB.

| Situation | Practical approach |
|---|---|
| Small private group, newly generated world | Start around 6–8 GB and observe behavior during exploration and combat. |
| Several players exploring different directions | Watch memory, CPU load and server tick responsiveness; generated terrain can increase load quickly. |
| Large bases, automation or frequent dungeon and boss activity | Profile the actual workload before increasing the heap; memory alone may not be the bottleneck. |
| Older or low-memory host computer | Leave operating-system headroom and reduce concurrent services rather than assigning nearly all RAM to Java. |
Lag has more than one cause. A full heap can lead to long garbage-collection pauses, but a weak CPU, slow storage, network latency or a client-side rendering limit can feel similar. Record when the lag occurs and whether all players see it. If only one player is affected, investigate that client’s connection or Java allocation before changing the server heap.
Is Prominence II Fabric or Forge?
The researched setup uses Fabric on Minecraft 1.20.1. Install and launch the Fabric-based pack; do not select Forge for this server. The loader, Minecraft version and modpack release are three separate compatibility checks, and all three must match.
If a server fails immediately, verify Java 17 and Fabric before changing individual mods. A Forge client cannot become compatible by copying the server address, and a Fabric client on a different Minecraft version is not an equivalent installation.
Can friends join from CurseForge, Modrinth or Prism?
Yes, the launcher brand is not the deciding factor. A player using CurseForge, Modrinth, Prism or another launcher can join if that launcher is running the same Prominence II release, Minecraft 1.20.1 and Fabric, with the required client-side files installed.

Have every player compare the displayed pack version with the server’s selected release before attempting to connect. The server pack belongs on the server; the launcher’s client pack belongs on each player’s computer. Client-only files should stay with players, while server configuration and world files stay in the dedicated server folder.
Client checklist
- Prominence II: Hasturian Era release number exactly matches the server.
- Minecraft is 1.20.1.
- The launcher profile uses Fabric, not Forge.
- The client is using Java 17 where the launcher allows a Java selection.
- The player has fully closed and reopened the launcher after changing versions.
- The server address and port are correct.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
Self-hosting gives you control over the files, hardware, backups and update timing, but the host machine must stay online and you are responsible for Java, networking, storage and recovery. Managed hosting trades some control and a recurring charge for a control panel, datacenter uptime and provider support.
Cinderstone Studios identifies BisectHosting as its official server-hosting partner and describes one-click Prominence II installation. Managed-provider pages also advertise preconfigured Fabric, Java, server files and control-panel updates. Those are provider claims, so verify the current plan, region, backup policy and exact pack release before paying.
| Decision factor | Self-hosted machine | Managed server |
|---|---|---|
| Recurring cost | No hosting subscription, but you supply hardware, electricity and internet service. | Monthly or recurring price; the current amount depends on the provider and plan. |
| Uptime | The server is available only while your computer, network and power remain available. | A datacenter keeps the service online according to the provider’s plan and maintenance schedule. |
| Installation | Download, extract, configure Java, accept the EULA and expose the port yourself. | Often includes a control-panel or one-click installation, but confirm that it deploys the required release. |
| Resources | You choose the machine and can inspect its CPU, storage and memory directly. | Compare allocated RAM, CPU policy, storage, region and upgrade options. |
| Backups and rollback | You must create and test your own backups. | Check how often backups run, how long they are retained and whether restoration is included. |
| Troubleshooting | You control logs and files but handle Java, mods, firewall and router issues. | Support may handle infrastructure issues; pack-specific problems can still require your group to provide logs. |
Choose self-hosting when someone in the group is comfortable maintaining a Java process, forwarding a port and making backups. Choose managed hosting when uninterrupted availability and reduced maintenance matter more than owning the machine. Neither option removes the requirement that all clients and the server use the same pack release.

Common startup and connection problems
The server closes immediately
- Run
java -versionand confirm Java 17. - Read the first error in the server log rather than the final shutdown line; the final line often only reports that startup stopped.
- Confirm you extracted the server pack completely and are running its supplied script from the active folder.
- Check that
eula.txtcontainseula=truein that same folder. - Do not replace Fabric files with Forge files or copy a client profile over the server directory.
A player receives a mod or version mismatch
Compare the server release, the player’s displayed Prominence II release, Minecraft 1.20.1 and Fabric. Reinstalling the exact client profile is usually safer than manually adding or removing individual mods. If the server was updated, every player must update before joining.
Friends get “connection refused” or time out
- Confirm the server process is still running and listening on the expected port.
- Allow TCP 25565 through the host firewall.
- Check the router forwarding rule and make sure it points to the server computer’s current local address.
- Have a player outside your home network test the public address; a local test cannot prove that internet forwarding works.
- Ask the internet provider whether inbound connections are restricted by carrier-grade NAT or another policy.
The world lags during exploration or boss fights
Note whether the problem affects everyone and whether it appears during terrain generation, a particular dimension or a specific encounter. Check CPU, memory and storage activity while the event occurs. Increase the heap only when memory pressure is demonstrated and the host still has headroom; otherwise investigate the CPU, storage or network path.
An update breaks the world
Stop the server, make a complete copy of the world and configuration directories, and only then test the new server pack. Keep the previous server folder intact until players have joined successfully and the world has been checked. If the update fails, restore the backup and return both server and clients to the previous release.
Backups, updates and version discipline
Back up before every pack update, configuration change and major world-building session. At minimum, preserve the world folder, server configuration and any files that the pack’s instructions identify as important. Store a copy outside the live server directory so an accidental extraction or deletion cannot destroy both copies.
- Announce a maintenance window and stop the server cleanly.
- Copy the world and configuration files to a dated backup location.
- Download the new server pack from the official project’s Additional Files area.
- Read its
HOW_TO_RUN.mdand compare the release number with the client release you plan to deploy. - Install the update in a separate directory or preserve the old directory until the new one is verified.
- Start the updated server, inspect the log and join with one test client.
- Only after the test succeeds, have the rest of the group update their client profiles.
Never assume that a launcher’s automatic update and a manually downloaded server pack selected the same release. Write the release number in your maintenance notes and ask players to report the version shown by their launcher when diagnosing a failed connection.
Which hosting method is right for your group?
For a few friends who can leave a computer online and are comfortable with Java and router settings, self-hosting the matching server pack is the most flexible route. Begin with 6–8 GB, test locally, then open TCP 25565 and monitor the actual workload.
For a group that wants a control panel, provider-managed infrastructure and less networking work, a managed Fabric host with one-click Prominence II deployment can be simpler. Confirm the provider’s current price, region, backups, support terms and exact pack version before ordering. In either case, the non-negotiable rule is the same: Fabric, Minecraft 1.20.1, Java 17 on the server, and an identical Prominence II release for every player.
