For the current pack, host Project Architect 2, not the similarly named original Project Architect. Project Architect 2 targets Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge. The quickest route is a managed Minecraft host with a one-click installer; choose a plan with about 12 GB of RAM for a small group, have every player install the identical client profile, then generate or upload the world from the host panel.

Identify the right pack before you create a server

Project Architect 2 is the pack this guide covers. Its server files are listed for Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge on CurseForge. A search result also surfaced an older “Project Architect” entry associated with Minecraft 1.16.5; that is a different project and should not be selected by mistake. Check the complete name, Minecraft version and Forge designation in the installer or server-file listing before paying for a server.

  • Pack: Project Architect 2
  • Minecraft: 1.20.1
  • Mod loader: Forge
  • Client requirement: every player uses the same Project Architect 2 profile and pack version as the server

Managed hosts generally install the matching Forge and Minecraft components for you. If you self-host, the CurseForge server-file download is only the pack payload; Java, Forge installation, network access and ongoing administration remain your responsibility.

Choose between managed hosting and self-hosting

Route Best for What you do Main trade-off
Managed host with one-click installation Players who want the server online quickly Select Project Architect 2 during ordering or in the game-panel installer, choose a RAM tier, then start the server You pay a recurring hosting fee and work within the provider’s panel and upgrade options
Self-hosted machine Administrators comfortable maintaining Java/Forge services and home networking Download the Project Architect 2 server files, install the required runtime and Forge components, configure the server, and make it reachable to players You handle setup, updates, backups, security, uptime and network troubleshooting

For a first server or a small group that wants to play immediately, a managed plan is the lower-risk choice. Self-hosting can make sense when you already operate a suitable always-on machine and understand how you will expose and protect a Minecraft service. The available material does not establish a single Java release, Forge installer command or port-forwarding procedure for this pack, so do not copy a command intended for another modpack.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

How much RAM Project Architect 2 needs

Hosting companies publish different recommendations, and none of the material identifies a RAM figure from the pack’s authors. Winternode presents an 8–12 GB range, StickyPiston calls 8 GB a minimum, and ServerPrism says to use at least 8 GB for smooth multiplayer. Those are vendor claims rather than an independent benchmark.

Published guidance How to interpret it
8 GB minimum (StickyPiston) A floor for a modest installation, not a guarantee of good performance with many players, large worlds or heavy automation
At least 8 GB (ServerPrism) Its stated baseline for multiplayer; actual headroom depends on player count and activity
8–12 GB (Winternode) A range that acknowledges different workloads and gives you an upgrade path

A conservative starting point for a small private group is 12 GB. Select less only when your host makes it easy to monitor usage and increase the allocation. Select more when you expect a larger simultaneous player count, extensive exploration, or several heavily automated bases. Do not assume that assigning every available gigabyte improves a server: leave resources for the operating system and the host’s control panel on a self-managed machine, and use the provider’s documented memory controls on managed hosting.

Some shared-hosting platforms say they scale Java memory automatically. Other panels expose a manual value and advise matching the modpack authors’ recommendation. Because those policies differ, follow the memory setting shown in your chosen provider’s panel rather than applying advice written for a different pack.

Managed hosting: the fastest installation path

One-click installation removes most of the version-matching work. The labels differ slightly, but the sequence is consistent: order a server, select Project Architect 2, wait for the installation to finish, and start it. Keep the exact pack version visible to your players so their clients match the server.

Winternode

  1. Start an order and choose Project Architect 2 as the modpack. Winternode says selecting the pack at checkout installs it automatically.
  2. Choose a memory tier. Its published guidance places the pack in the 8–12 GB range; use the larger end as the cautious starting point for a small group.
  3. Complete the order and open the control panel. The provider states that the server boots ready to join after the automatic installation.
  4. If you later change packs or versions, use the panel’s Modpack Manager. Winternode describes that manager as supporting its own packs and CurseForge packs.
  5. If the initial tier is too small, request a RAM upgrade through the provider’s plan controls. Winternode says RAM upgrades are prorated, so check the amount and billing period shown before confirming.

StickyPiston

  1. Order a Project Architect 2 server.
  2. Sign in to the game panel after provisioning. StickyPiston says the pack is pre-installed.
  3. Open the server and start it. Wait for the first boot to complete before inviting players.
  4. To use an existing save, open World Manager and drag the world save into the manager. Verify that the uploaded folder is the save itself, not an extra directory created by your file browser.
  5. When the panel indicates that the server is behind, use Update Server. Make a backup of the world first and ensure the clients will move to the same pack version.

StickyPiston publishes 8 GB as a minimum. Treat that as a starting floor rather than proof that every world will remain responsive at that allocation.

ServerPrism

  1. Open the provider’s one-click installer in the game panel.
  2. Select Project Architect 2, not the original Project Architect entry.
  3. Confirm the installation. ServerPrism says the installer handles the Forge and Minecraft versions automatically.
  4. Choose a plan with at least 8 GB; 12 GB gives a small group more headroom when the world or player activity grows.
  5. Start the server, then copy the address displayed by the panel for your players.

Apex Hosting

  1. Open Game File in the server panel.
  2. Use the modpack drop-down search and enter Project Architect 2.
  3. Choose Change Version and select the required Project Architect 2 release.
  4. Use Generate New World when you want a fresh save. Do not use that action if you intend to preserve an existing world.
  5. Select Restart Now to apply the file and world changes.

Apex recommends the CurseForge app for players installing the client pack. Give players the precise version shown in the server panel; a name match alone is not enough when the server has been updated.

Install the matching client pack

A modded server cannot make an unmodded or differently versioned client compatible. Every player should install Project Architect 2 through the same launcher profile and select the same release that the server runs.

  1. Install the CurseForge app, which Apex identifies as its recommended client method.
  2. Find Project Architect 2 in the app and create or install the profile for the server’s Minecraft 1.20.1/Forge combination.
  3. Check the profile’s pack version against the server panel before launching.
  4. Launch Minecraft from that profile, not from a vanilla 1.20.1 profile.
  5. Use the server address supplied by the host. If the connection fails, stop and compare the client profile, pack version, Minecraft version and Forge loader before changing unrelated settings.

Keep a written record of the version currently installed on the server. When you update, tell every player which client profile to update and schedule the change so nobody joins with a stale profile.

Create a new world or move an existing one

Starting a new world

Use the panel action provided by your host. Apex labels the action Generate New World; other panels may expose world creation during the first boot. Start the server once, allow generation to finish, and then have one player test joining before the whole group begins building.

Do not generate a new world over an established save. A new-world action can replace the active world selection, so identify the current save in the panel before clicking it.

Uploading a save

StickyPiston documents a drag-and-drop route through World Manager. Stop the server before replacing its active save, upload the complete world directory, select it in the manager and start the server again. Preserve the save’s internal files and folder structure; uploading only individual files can produce an incomplete world.

If your provider does not offer a documented world manager, use its file-management instructions rather than assuming that a local drag-and-drop workflow applies. The exact upload controls and restart behavior are provider-specific.

Self-hosting with the CurseForge server files

CurseForge lists Project Architect 2 server-file packages, including entries identified as 2.1 and 2.2. The 2.2 listing is shown as 362.4 MB. Download the server-file entry that matches the client release you intend to run; downloading a client profile alone does not create a server installation.

  1. Choose the Project Architect 2 server-file release that matches every player’s client profile.
  2. Download the archive from the CurseForge listing and extract it into a dedicated server directory.
  3. Read the files’ included instructions and identify the Forge installation and launch files supplied for that release.
  4. Install the Java runtime and Forge components required by the pack’s instructions. The available pack information does not establish a universal Java version or a safe launch command, so use the release’s own documentation rather than guessing.
  5. Run the supplied server setup once, accept any required game agreement in the file it creates, and stop the process cleanly before editing configuration.
  6. Set the memory allocation according to the runtime and operating system documentation. For a small group, plan around the 8–12 GB range reported by hosts, while reserving enough memory for the host operating system.
  7. Make the service reachable only after you understand your network’s firewall and port-forwarding rules. The exact port and router procedure were not established for this pack; confirm them in the Forge/server instructions and your router documentation.
  8. Launch the server, watch the console for a completed startup, and test locally before asking friends to connect from outside your network.
  9. Back up the world directory and configuration before changing the pack version or installing updates.

Self-hosting is not simply “download and double-click.” Java compatibility, Forge’s installer/launcher layout, operating-system permissions, firewall rules and router configuration can all prevent a server from starting or accepting connections. Keep those variables separate while troubleshooting: first prove that the process starts locally, then test local joining, and only then test an external connection.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Updating without breaking the world

Version changes affect both the server and every client. Before pressing an update control or replacing server files:

  • Record the current Project Architect 2 release and Minecraft/Forge combination.
  • Stop the server and make a complete copy of the world directory.
  • Tell players which client profile they must install after the change.
  • Use the host’s update control when available; StickyPiston calls its control Update Server.
  • Restart and allow the server to finish loading before anyone joins.
  • Check that the world, player inventories and major machines appear normal. If they do not, stop the server and restore the backup instead of repeatedly restarting the changed world.

Do not assume that a later pack release can be applied to an older save without consequences. Keep the old server files and backup until the group has played successfully on the new version.

Troubleshooting the first connection

The server starts, but a player is rejected

  • Compare the player’s pack name and exact release with the server panel.
  • Confirm that the client uses Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge, not a vanilla profile or a different loader.
  • Have the player launch through the complete Project Architect 2 profile rather than adding individual mods manually.

The panel reports a failed or incomplete installation

  • Stop the server and check whether the selected item is Project Architect 2 rather than the older similarly named pack.
  • Re-run the provider’s one-click installer only after saving any world you need.
  • On a self-hosted machine, read the Forge and server-file instructions for the selected release; do not substitute commands from another pack.

The world is missing after a restart

  • Check the panel’s active-world selection.
  • Verify that an accidental Generate New World action did not replace the selected save.
  • If you uploaded a save, confirm that the complete world directory was transferred and that the server was stopped while files were replaced.
  • Restore the pre-update backup if the save was overwritten or damaged.

Performance deteriorates as the group plays

  • Check actual memory use in the host panel instead of relying on the plan’s label.
  • Move from an 8 GB allocation toward 12 GB if the host supports an upgrade and the server is consistently short of memory.
  • Reduce simultaneous exploration or automation while testing, so you can identify whether the workload—not the installation—is causing the slowdown.
  • On self-hosting, verify that the operating system still has headroom and that no unrelated process is consuming the machine’s resources.

Launch checklist

  • Correct pack: Project Architect 2.
  • Correct platform: Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge.
  • Server allocation selected with the workload in mind; 12 GB is the conservative starting point for a small group.
  • Every player has the matching CurseForge profile and release.
  • World created or uploaded deliberately, with a backup retained.
  • Update procedure and current version recorded before anyone starts building.
  • Server address tested by the owner and one player before the full group joins.
