You can move a Lovable or Replit project by putting its code in a Git repository, deploying that code to a host suited to the app, and separately migrating any backend services and data it depends on. Exporting the code does not automatically move a database, login accounts, uploaded files, server-side functions, or secrets. Treat those as separate parts of the migration.
What needs to move besides the code?
Before changing anything, map the project’s dependencies. The application repository is only one part of a working deployment; its services may remain attached to the builder or to another provider.
- Application: framework, build command, start command, output directory, and expected listening port.
- Hosting: where the current frontend and any server process run.
- Backend: database provider, authentication provider, server-side functions, and APIs.
- State and files: user records, uploaded objects, and any persistent disk data.
- Configuration: environment variables, backend URLs, client-visible keys, private secrets, and integration credentials.
- Operations: custom domain, webhooks, scheduled work, logs, backups, and health checks.
This inventory is project-specific. Lovable’s Git sync documentation distinguishes repository code from Lovable Cloud backend configuration, while Replit’s documentation describes both Git workflows and different deployment types. Neither source says a code export includes production data or credentials.
How do I move my Lovable project to my own server?
- Connect Lovable to a Git provider. Use Lovable’s Git sync integration to connect the project to GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket, as described in its Git sync documentation. The precise interface can change, so follow the current in-product flow.
- Review and commit the repository. Confirm that the expected application files and project configuration are present, then make a known-good commit. Treat this repository as the copy you will build and deploy from.
- Identify the backend before choosing a host. Establish whether the project uses Lovable Cloud or a separately connected Supabase project. A project using Lovable Cloud may have backend configuration, data, authentication, storage, functions, and secrets to handle independently of its source code.
- Choose a compatible deployment target. Determine whether the application is a static frontend or requires a running server process. Read the project’s scripts and runtime configuration, then use the selected host’s current framework instructions for build output, commands, ports, and persistent storage.
- Recreate configuration and migrate backend services. Set the required environment variables in the new deployment, update backend references as needed, and follow the current official instructions for any database, authentication, storage, or function migration.
- Deploy to staging and test. Validate the app and its services before directing production traffic to the new deployment.
Lovable’s Git sync documentation notes that a Cloud-backed project can have its backend URL and publishable key represented in the repository. A publishable key is not a copy of the backend, its data, or its server-side secrets. Keep private credentials out of client-side code and configure them through the new host’s secret-management mechanism.

Can I host my Lovable app outside Lovable?
Yes, the code can be synchronized to a Git provider and deployed elsewhere. Whether the app will work there without further migration depends on what it uses. If it relies on Lovable Cloud, moving the frontend alone leaves those backend dependencies in place; if it uses a separately connected service, that service may remain where it is or be migrated independently.
Supabase’s official troubleshooting documentation distinguishes Lovable Cloud projects from projects using a regular Supabase account and points to Lovable’s self-hosting guidance for cloning a backend and migrating data when direct access through a normal Supabase account is unavailable. Use the current official migration guidance for the project’s actual configuration. The available documentation does not establish one universal export procedure for every project.

How do I export a Replit project to GitHub?
- Open the project’s Git workflow. Replit documents a Git tool and GitHub sync workflows for version control. Use the current controls in your account to connect or sync the project with a repository you control.
- Alternatively, import a repository. Replit’s documentation also describes importing a repository. This is useful when the source of truth is already in GitHub and you want to work from that copy.
- Check the resulting repository. Confirm the application code, dependency manifests, and runtime/build configuration you expect are present. Do not assume that the repository includes database contents, uploaded files, or secret values.
- Make a known-good commit. Review the changes and preserve a commit that can serve as the migration checkpoint before creating the new deployment.
Replit’s version-control workflow and interface may change. Its documentation describes the Git and GitHub approach, but use the labels and instructions currently shown in your account rather than relying on a remembered click path.

Choose based on what the application runs, not on which builder produced it. Replit’s deployment documentation distinguishes static deployments from server-oriented options, including Autoscale and Reserved VM. The documentation describes Reserved VM for always-on API servers and background workloads; these are Replit platform terms, not universal names for other hosts.

| Application shape | Deployment direction | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Frontend that builds to static files and does not require an app server at runtime | Static hosting | Build command, output directory, deep-link handling, and any API or backend URLs the frontend calls. |
| Application that needs a running server process to answer requests | Server-capable hosting | Start command, runtime version, listening port, environment variables, logs, and health checks. |
| API that must remain available or work that runs in the background | Always-on server or another host feature designed for persistent workloads | Process uptime, restart behavior, background-task handling, monitoring, and persistent-storage needs. |
This is a selection framework, not a host-specific build recipe. The cited platform documentation does not establish a single set of commands that works for every Lovable or Replit project, or identical feature names across outside providers. Check your repository’s package scripts or runtime configuration and follow the chosen host’s current framework documentation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Will my database and login users move with the code?
No. A Git repository is a copy of source code and versioned configuration; it is not, by itself, a migration of production records or accounts. Handle each stateful service as its own migration item.

For Lovable Cloud, consult Lovable’s current self-hosting guidance and the applicable Supabase guidance for the project before attempting a backend move. Supabase’s troubleshooting documentation specifically points users who cannot access a Lovable Cloud project through a normal Supabase account toward Lovable’s backend cloning and data migration instructions. Export availability and steps depend on the project and current product behavior.
How do I verify the new deployment before cutover?
Deploy a non-production copy first. Check the application against its real dependencies, not just whether the home page loads.
- Open the landing page and representative deep links directly.
- Confirm API connectivity and database reads and writes.
- Test sign-in, sign-out, and authentication callbacks.
- Upload and download files if the app handles stored objects.
- Exercise webhooks, external integrations, and scheduled or background tasks.
- Check that logs, health monitoring, and backups are available in the new setup.
These checks are operational safeguards, not an automatic guarantee from either builder or host. Tailor them to the dependencies in your inventory and keep the old deployment available while you validate the replacement.
How should I cut over and keep a rollback option?
Once staging passes the project’s acceptance checks, switch the production domain or traffic using the selected host’s current instructions. The exact sequence depends on the domain, host, and database; there is no single DNS or rollback procedure established for every project.
Quick Recap
- Confirm the destination app and backend are ready and that a data backup has been verified.
- Apply the host-specific domain or traffic change.
- Check production routes and critical user flows after the change.
- Keep the old deployment and backup until the new setup has passed your production checks and you are comfortable retiring the previous environment.
