Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
The reliable way to host Fantasy Realm for Minecraft 1.18.2 is to use LunaPixelStudios’ matching Fantasy Realm Server Pack v3, run it with the Java version required by that pack’s own scripts or readme, and give every player the identical 1.18.2 Forge client release. Do not mix the 1.18.2 files with the older 1.16.5 server pack.
You can run the server on a computer you control or use a managed Minecraft host. Self-hosting gives you direct control over Java, scripts, configuration, backups and files, while managed hosting removes most networking and maintenance work. The correct choice depends on your willingness to maintain the machine and your need for remote access, backups and scalable resources.

Fantasy Realm is a LunaPixelStudios RPG adventure and exploration modpack for Minecraft. CurseForge lists Forge as its mod loader and lists a Minecraft 1.18.2 v3 release dated 7 October 2023. The corresponding Fantasy Realm Server Pack v3 is listed for 1.18.2 with a 8 October 2023 date. Use those matching releases for the server and every client.
The project description calls the pack “A RPG ADVENTURE & EXPLORATION MODPACK FOCUSING ON QUALITY!” and advertises 250+ mods, more than 800 quests, five new dimensions, more than 100 new Overworld biomes, more than 100 new mobs, more than 200 dungeons and structures, customizable backpacks, magic mods, JourneyMap and a MineColonies-built fantasy kingdom. These are the author’s feature descriptions, not independent performance benchmarks. The project page had 459,765 total downloads at the time of the captured listing.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That feature set is substantially heavier than a vanilla server. World generation, exploration, entity activity, dimensions and simultaneous players all affect CPU time, memory use and disk activity, so plan to measure your own workload rather than rely on a universal player-count claim.
Files and versions you must match
Download the 1.18.2 v3 server pack
Open the Fantasy Realm files listing on CurseForge and select the entry explicitly identified as the 1.18.2 Server Pack v3. Download the normal Fantasy Realm 1.18.2 Forge client release as well. Keep both files until setup is complete so you can compare their version names and dates.
CurseForge lists several Minecraft versions and separate server-pack entries. Select the 1.18 server-pack entry for v3 rather than assuming the newest file in the list is correct. A server can start while still being the wrong generation, but clients using another generation will usually fail during the mod handshake or while loading registries.
Do not use the 1.16.5 Java note as a 1.18.2 requirement
An older file page for the 1.16.5 server pack contains a “Java 8 Required!” note. That note belongs to the 1.16.5 file and is not definitive for Fantasy Realm 1.18.2 v3. After extracting the v3 archive, read its included instructions and inspect the supplied launch scripts for the runtime they expect. Treat those current pack instructions as authoritative for your installation.

Prepare a clean self-hosted server directory
Use a new directory dedicated to this server. Avoid extracting the pack over another modpack or an existing world: old jars, configuration files and generated data can create errors that look like missing dependencies.
- Create a directory such as
FantasyRealm-1.18.2-serveron a drive with sufficient free space. Keep the path short and avoid locations that are automatically synchronized or aggressively scanned by backup software while the server is running. - Extract every file from the downloaded v3 server pack into that directory. A normal pack archive is expected to contain mod jars, configuration files and a start script, but inspect the actual archive instead of assuming its layout.
- Leave the supplied folder structure intact. Do not move individual jars into a different
modsdirectory unless the pack’s own instructions tell you to. - Make a separate copy of the original archive. It is useful when you need to restore a deleted script or verify that a file was not changed during troubleshooting.
Install and verify the required Java runtime
Install the Java runtime named by the v3 pack’s readme or launch script. The correct major version is a property of the downloaded server pack, not of the old 1.16.5 page. If the script calls a specific executable or sets a Java path, follow that convention.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Open a terminal or command prompt in the server directory.
- Run
java -version. - Compare the reported major version and vendor details with the v3 instructions.
- If the command is missing or reports another major version, install the required runtime and update your system path, or edit the script to point to the required Java executable as instructed by the pack.
Run the supplied Windows batch file or Linux/macOS shell script rather than inventing a new Forge command. If the archive includes more than one launcher, choose the one for your operating system and read any comments in the file before editing memory or JVM arguments.
First launch, EULA and basic configuration
- Run the supplied start script once. The first run normally creates the Minecraft EULA file and initial server files before stopping.
- Open
eula.txtand read the linked Minecraft EULA. Seteula=trueonly after you accept those terms. Never bypass the acceptance step by copying an EULA file from an unrelated server. - Run the same start script again. Watch the console for the Forge server to finish loading and for a message indicating that it is ready to accept connections.
- Stop the process cleanly from the console before changing files. Avoid closing the terminal or killing the process while chunks or player data are being written.
Use the generated server.properties file for initial settings. Change one setting at a time and keep a record of deliberate changes.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Server name: Set the message of the day so players can identify this world in their multiplayer list.
- Difficulty: Choose the difficulty appropriate for your group before inviting players.
- Whitelist: Keep the whitelist enabled while testing, then add trusted player names from the server console.
- View distance: Start conservatively and increase it only after monitoring tick time and memory during exploration.
- Simulation distance: Treat this separately from view distance; it controls how far active game logic runs and can have a large CPU cost.
- Network port: Select the TCP port you intend to expose and use the same value in your firewall and router rules.
Save a copy of server.properties before experimenting. If a setting prevents startup, restore the last known-good copy instead of deleting the entire configuration directory.
Make the server reachable
Testing on the same computer or local network
Start with a local connection. Joining from the host computer or another device on the same network separates modpack problems from Internet routing problems. Use the server’s local address and selected port for this test. If local joining fails, inspect the console and logs before changing router settings.
Firewall rules
Allow the Java process, or the chosen server TCP port, through the operating system firewall. Apply the rule to the network profile you actually use and avoid opening unrelated ports. Re-test locally after changing the firewall.
Router forwarding for home hosting
If the computer is behind a home router, forward the chosen TCP port to the computer’s local address. Reserve that local address in the router if possible so the forwarding rule does not point to a different device after a lease change. Test from outside your home network, such as a phone using cellular data, because a local test cannot prove that Internet forwarding works.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Give friends the public address and port, not your private LAN address. Do not publish administrator passwords, console access or router credentials. If your Internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT or blocks inbound connections, forwarding may not work; a managed host avoids that particular limitation.
Install the client correctly for every player
- Have each player install the Fantasy Realm 1.18.2 client release that corresponds to the server-pack generation.
- Confirm that the client uses Forge and the same mod list, configuration generation and pack version as the server.
- Remove unrelated mods from the client while testing. Additional client-side visual or performance mods can be added later if they are known to be compatible.
- Connect only after the server console shows that startup has completed.
Version matching includes more than the Minecraft number. A client on a different Fantasy Realm release can have different jar files, registries or default configurations even when both displays say 1.18.2. When a connection fails, compare the actual server-pack and client-profile versions before changing Java or regenerating a world.
Backups, upgrades and safe maintenance
Stop the server cleanly before copying files. A useful backup set includes the world directory, mods, config, defaultconfigs, launch scripts and server.properties. Keep at least one backup outside the live server directory.
- Create a backup before installing a new Fantasy Realm release, changing Forge, replacing a jar or editing many configuration files.
- Label backups with the pack version and date so you know which files belong together.
- Test that an archive can actually be opened and that the world folder is present; a failed backup job is not protection.
- Upgrade a copy of the server first. Start it with the intended Java runtime and confirm that the world loads before replacing the live directory.
- Do not regenerate the world or delete configuration folders as a first troubleshooting step. Those actions can remove data that would have explained the failure.
How much RAM and CPU does Fantasy Realm need?
There is no authoritative, reproducible Fantasy Realm 1.18.2 v3 benchmark that converts memory into a guaranteed player count. The pack’s 250+ mods and extensive world-generation features justify treating it as a demanding workload, but the correct allocation depends on view distance, simulation distance, dimensions being explored, chunk-generation activity, entity counts, storage speed and concurrent players.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Use a measurement-based sizing process:
- Start with the memory and CPU resources available in your chosen environment, leaving headroom for the operating system and file cache rather than assigning every available gigabyte to Java.
- Test with the same view distance and simulation distance you plan to use in normal play.
- Have the expected number of players travel through new terrain, enter different dimensions and load structures. Exploration is often more demanding than standing in one base.
- Watch the server console and host metrics for memory pressure, long pauses, rising tick times and disk saturation.
- Increase resources or reduce distances in small steps, then repeat the same scenario so the comparison is meaningful.
Do not promise a fixed number of players from the project description alone. Record the conditions of your own test, because a quiet established world and a group generating new chunks can produce very different results on the same machine.

Using a managed hosting service
CurseForge’s documented Servers workflow supports modpacks when a matching server pack is available. The published stages are selecting the modpack, choosing a plan, selecting a region, entering server details and paying. The guide identifies Shockbyte as the hosting provider and Tebex as the billing platform for that workflow.
- Choose Fantasy Realm in the host’s modpack catalog.
- Select the Minecraft 1.18.2 server-pack file explicitly. Do not let a catalog default silently choose 1.16.5 or another generation.
- Review the current plan’s RAM, CPU share, storage, backup behavior, supported modpack versions and technical-support terms.
- Choose a region close to most players to reduce network latency.
- Enter the server name and access settings, keep the whitelist enabled during setup, and complete the provider’s payment process.
- After deployment, verify the installed pack and Forge version in the panel before inviting players.
Hosting prices, resource limits and regional availability change. Check the provider’s current terms at the time you subscribe rather than relying on an old article or a historical discount mention. Confirm that the host supports large world generation and lets you select or reinstall the exact server-pack file you need.
Quick Recap
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
| Decision factor | Self-hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Cost pattern | No hosting subscription, but you supply the computer, electricity, storage and Internet connection. | Recurring plan cost; current prices and limits must be checked with the provider. |
| Control | Direct access to Java, scripts, mods, configs, logs and backups. | Panel-based control with limits defined by the host’s plan and policies. |
| Networking | You must configure the firewall, public address and router forwarding when behind NAT. | The provider normally supplies a reachable address, so home port forwarding is unnecessary. |
| Backups | You design and verify your own backup schedule and storage. | Backup frequency, retention and restore options depend on the selected plan. |
| Latency | Depends on your home connection and the players’ distance from it. | You can usually choose a region near the group. |
| Version selection | You can retain a specific server-pack archive and control upgrade timing. | Selection depends on the host’s catalog and its support for that file. |
| Scaling | Requires upgrading your machine or moving the server. | Often handled by changing plans, subject to available CPU, RAM and storage. |
| Support | You diagnose Java, Forge, networking and file problems yourself. | Support may help with the platform, but modpack-specific troubleshooting remains your responsibility. |
Troubleshooting connection and startup failures
The server stops immediately
- Confirm that you extracted the 1.18.2 v3 server pack, not a 1.16.5 archive.
- Run
java -versionand compare it with the v3 script or readme. - Read the first meaningful error in
latest.logand the console output. The final generic “server stopped” line is usually only a consequence. - Check that the supplied script is being run from the server directory and that its referenced files still exist.
Players receive a missing-mod or registry error
- Compare the client’s Fantasy Realm release with the server-pack version, not just the Minecraft version.
- Confirm both sides use Forge and that no jar was added, removed or replaced on only one side.
- Check the first missing-mod line in the client and server logs.
- Remove client-only visual or performance mods from the server when the pack documentation identifies them as client-side.
Players cannot connect from the Internet
- Join locally first. If local joining fails, solve the server or modpack problem before touching the router.
- Verify that the firewall allows the selected TCP port and Java process.
- Check that router forwarding targets the server computer’s current local address.
- Test from outside the home network and confirm that friends are using the public address and the same port.
- If inbound traffic is blocked by the Internet provider, move the server to a managed host or use another network arrangement rather than repeatedly changing Minecraft files.
The world becomes slow during exploration
- Measure memory, tick time and disk usage while players generate new chunks and visit dimensions.
- Lower view distance or simulation distance and repeat the same activity.
- Check whether a large number of players, mobs, structures or chunk-generation tasks coincide with the slowdown.
- Back up before changing configs or removing mods. Never delete the world to hide a performance symptom.
Pre-launch checklist
- The server directory contains the Fantasy Realm 1.18.2 v3 server-pack files.
- The Java runtime matches the v3 pack’s own instructions.
- The server has been launched once, the EULA has been accepted, and a second launch reaches the ready state.
server.propertieshas the intended name, difficulty, whitelist, distances and port.- The firewall and, for home hosting, router forwarding use that same port.
- Every player has the matching Fantasy Realm 1.18.2 Forge client release.
- A clean backup includes the world, mods, configs, default configs, scripts and properties.
- You have tested the expected exploration workload and recorded memory, tick-time and disk behavior.
