You can still use Facebook Live to present products and talk with buyers, but Facebook’s former Live Shopping features—product playlists and product tags in live videos—ended for new and scheduled events on October 1, 2022. A live comment is not a paid order, and there is no documented built-in Facebook Live claim queue in the sources available here. To run a sale now, plan the broadcast, comment moderation, buyer-intent tracking, payment, and fulfillment as separate steps, using a selling route you choose.

What you can—and cannot—do in a Facebook Live sale

Facebook Live is a broadcast format. Facebook Live Shopping was a separate shopping experience that let sellers use product playlists and product tags in live videos. Meta announced that new or scheduled Live Shopping events would no longer be available starting October 1, 2022; the general ability to broadcast live continued. TechCrunch reported Meta’s announcement, including its stated shift in focus toward short-form video and Reels.

Meta’s stated rationale, as reported at the time, was: “As consumers’ viewing behaviors are shifting to short-form video, we are shifting our focus to Reels on Facebook and Instagram, Meta’s short-form video product.” That explains the announced change; it should not be read as a promise about any particular current shopping or checkout feature.

That distinction determines how to plan. Do not expect viewers to select tagged products or complete a native Live Shopping checkout in the video. Instead, demonstrate products on camera, explain how a viewer can express interest, record that interest yourself, and send buyers to a separate route for product details, payment, and order confirmation.

Facebook lists Marketplace, buy-and-sell groups, Pages, and Shops among its selling routes. These are options for selling on Facebook, not interchangeable versions of an in-video Live checkout; availability and shipping can depend on location and account context. See Facebook’s selling guide for the routes it lists.

In practical terms, a Facebook Live sale now has several separate jobs: the stream presents the product; comments or messages may signal interest; a seller-side record keeps claims and inventory straight; and a selected selling or payment route completes the transaction. Treating those as distinct steps helps prevent an enthusiastic comment from being mistaken for an accepted, paid, or fulfilled order.

Choose the order route before scheduling the sale

Before you announce the broadcast, decide where a viewer goes after expressing interest. The right route depends on your existing sales setup and what is available to your account and customers. Make the instructions simple enough to say aloud and repeat in a pinned comment.

Workflow Where buyer intent is captured Where checkout happens What to plan for
Seller-managed comment or message process Your moderator or seller records a comment or follow-up message according to rules you set. A seller-selected route, such as your online storefront or another appropriate payment process. Define claim order, duplicate claims, deadlines, and how you contact buyers. This is your operating procedure, not a Facebook Live checkout feature.
Facebook selling surface Through the relevant Marketplace, group, Page, or Shop workflow, subject to availability. According to that surface’s current options and your account’s eligibility. Verify which features your account can use and whether shipping is offered in your location.

The main comparison is where checkout happens. In a seller-managed process, you decide how to capture a claim and then guide the buyer to your selected route. With a Facebook selling surface, the buyer uses whatever workflow that surface currently offers for your account. Neither route should be presented as the retired product-tag and in-video checkout flow from Facebook Live Shopping.

There is also a difference in how intent is captured. A viewer may write a claim comment or send a follow-up message under rules you set, but that is not a native product-tag queue. Your procedure needs to say how you identify the item, how you decide who gets limited stock, and how a claim becomes an order. For moderation, a solo seller handles the stream and comments at once; a delegated Page community manager can take on live-chat tasks using documented controls.

Do not promise a specific checkout or shipping experience until you have confirmed it in your own account. Facebook’s help material identifies selling routes, but the available information does not establish one universal checkout path or shipping availability for every seller.

Choose based on what you can reliably operate, not on a feature you assume the platform provides. If you already have an online storefront or order-management process, it may be a sensible destination for buyers, provided you test it and can explain the steps. If you plan to use a Facebook selling surface, check that it is available to you and understand its current options before you advertise it. Shipping in particular can depend on location, so do not imply that every viewer can choose it.

Set up a seller-run claim and order system

If you invite viewers to claim items in the comments, make clear that “comment to claim” is your own process. The available Meta materials do not document a native Facebook Live claim queue. A comment records interest; it does not establish that the order has been paid, accepted, or fulfilled.

Prepare an inventory sheet

Create one line per product or product variant. Assign a short, unique identifier that is easy to say and type, such as “M14” or “BLUE-2.” Record the price, available quantity, options such as size or color, and fulfillment notes. Keep the sheet beside the device running the broadcast or share it with the moderator.

  • Product identifier and clear description
  • Price and currency
  • Starting quantity and any variant-specific quantity
  • Pickup, delivery, or shipping notes
  • Whether the item is still available, claimed, awaiting payment, paid, or fulfilled

Identifiers matter because a buyer may hear a product description differently from how you label it, especially when products have multiple colors or sizes. Use the same identifier when you introduce the item, when a viewer claims it, and when you update the ledger. If an item has variants, track the quantities by variant rather than treating all options as one undifferentiated stock count.

Before the event, compare the list with the inventory you can actually sell. Correct prices and quantities, and mark any item you cannot offer with confidence. Keep fulfillment notes practical: for example, whether an item is for pickup or whether you have confirmed that shipping is an option for the relevant buyer. These are seller-side records, not a Facebook-prescribed inventory system.

Write the claim rules in advance

Choose exactly how buyers signal interest. For example, you might ask them to comment with the item identifier and quantity, then have the moderator reply with instructions for completing the order. State whether the first eligible comment gets the item, whether you accept backups, and how long a buyer has to pay. If two comments arrive close together or a buyer changes their mind, follow the rule you announced rather than improvising in the moment.

Clarify what counts as an eligible claim. If you require an identifier and quantity, say so; if you accept claims through a different route, explain that before the sale. State whether a claim is only a request for follow-up or whether you will temporarily reserve stock while you contact the buyer. Do not imply that a Facebook comment itself reserves inventory unless that is simply your own explicitly stated practice—and even then, explain how long the reservation lasts and what completes the order.

Make the next step predictable. Tell viewers how you will contact them, where they will receive payment instructions, and what confirmation means the order is accepted. Set a payment deadline if you use one, and decide beforehand what happens when a buyer does not respond, asks to cancel, or disputes which claim came first. You do not need an elaborate policy for a small sale, but you do need a consistent one.

Never treat a comment, direct message, or spoken promise as a completed order. Mark an item as sold only when your stated acceptance and payment steps are complete. Tell viewers before the event how they will receive payment instructions and confirmation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Assign a moderator

A second person can watch comments while you demonstrate products. Facebook documents Page community-manager controls for live chat, including pinning comments, deleting or reporting comments, and suspending or banning users. The exact controls available depend on the Page role and access in use; review Facebook’s Page access information.

Agree on who handles routine questions, inventory updates, claim records, and disruptive behavior. If you are working alone, simplify the sale: offer fewer items at once, pause between products, and avoid promising that you can monitor every comment instantly.

A moderator is useful for more than removing disruptive comments. They can watch for a claim, compare it with your announced rules, update the inventory record, answer repeated process questions, and tell you when you need to pause to resolve a conflict. Decide which decisions they can make independently—for example, recording a claim—and which ones they should bring to you, such as a disputed last item or a change to the offer.

Pinning a short instruction can help late arrivals find the claim process without interrupting the product demonstration. It should summarize your own procedure, not suggest that Facebook is running an order queue for you. The moderator’s role is to apply the seller’s rules consistently while using the Page live-chat controls that Facebook documents.

Before you go live

  1. Choose the broadcast surface and selling route. Decide whether the video will be on a Page or another suitable Facebook surface, then choose the separate route buyers will use for product information and payment. Check your account and local availability rather than assuming every Facebook selling feature is enabled for you.
  2. Build and verify the product list. Check identifiers, prices, quantities, options, and fulfillment notes. Remove or flag anything you cannot confidently offer.
  3. Test the buyer journey. Open the destination as a buyer would. Confirm the product information is clear and that your instructions for payment, confirmation, and follow-up work. Do not imply that a historical integration or a different Meta product automatically connects to Facebook Live.
  4. Prepare the pinned instructions. Include how to express interest, what information to provide, where the seller will follow up, and when a claim becomes an order. Keep private payment details out of public comments.
  5. Brief the moderator. Share the inventory sheet, claim rules, escalation plan, and who can mark an item as reserved or sold. Confirm the moderator can access the Page’s relevant live-chat controls.
  6. Explain fulfillment limits. Tell viewers whether you offer pickup, delivery, or shipping, and identify any geographic restrictions. Facebook says shipping may depend on location, so verify your own options before advertising them.

It is also worth rehearsing the order of events, even if you do not script the whole broadcast. Practice how you will introduce a product, say its identifier and price, pause for questions, and repeat the claim instructions. This makes the viewer’s next action clearer and gives the moderator a predictable moment to record claims.

Prepare answers to the questions that could otherwise interrupt the sale: how to claim, whether an option is still available, how payment happens, whether pickup or shipping is possible, and how a buyer will know an order is confirmed. Keep the answers consistent with the process you actually tested. If your selling route or shipping eligibility is uncertain, resolve that before you announce it rather than improvising a promise in the stream.

For a small sale, a simple list and a clear moderator brief may be enough. The important preparation is not a particular piece of equipment or software; it is knowing who records buyer intent, where the order is completed, and how inventory and status will be updated. The sources do not establish any specific camera, phone, microphone, or paid service as necessary for this workflow.

Manage the sale while the broadcast is live

Present one item at a time

Show the product clearly, then say its identifier, price, available quantity, and important options. Repeat the claim instructions periodically for people who join after the sale starts. When stock changes, have the moderator update the inventory record and tell viewers whether the item is available, reserved, or sold.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep the product presentation and the order instructions aligned. If you change an option, price, or quantity, say so plainly and have the moderator correct the shared record. Do not let an earlier pinned note or an older comment contradict the current availability. If you need a moment to check the ledger, pause rather than guessing.

Repeat the key details after answering questions, particularly the identifier and the route for claiming. A viewer who joins partway through should be able to understand how to signal interest without assuming that a product tag or in-video purchase button is available. This repetition is a practical way to make a seller-managed workflow understandable to people who missed the opening explanation.

Keep a live order ledger

A simple spreadsheet or written log is enough if it is kept current. Record only what you need to process and fulfill the order; do not ask customers to post payment-card numbers, addresses, or other sensitive details in public comments.

Field Why it matters
Viewer name or contact route Lets you follow up through the route you announced.
Product identifier and quantity Connects the claim to the correct item and stock count.
Claim time Helps apply your stated first-claim or tie-breaking rule.
Order status Distinguishes interest, reservation, accepted order, and cancellation.
Payment status Prevents an unpaid claim from being mistaken for a completed sale.
Fulfillment status Tracks whether the order is awaiting pickup, shipment, or completion.

Use status labels that everyone involved understands. A viewer’s initial comment might be recorded as interest or a claim; after you apply your rules, it may become a reservation or an accepted order; payment and fulfillment are later statuses. The labels are your own tracking method, so choose a sequence that matches the steps you actually use. Do not collapse them into a single “sold” mark if that would hide whether payment or fulfillment is still pending.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For competing claims, the timestamp is useful only if it helps apply the rule you already told viewers. If two comments are unclear or nearly simultaneous, do not quietly choose a buyer without using your announced tie-breaker. Ask for clarification through your stated route when a comment is ambiguous, record the resolution, and update availability so viewers do not keep claiming an item that is no longer offered.

Moderate without losing the presentation

Let the moderator answer repeated process questions, flag stock changes, and pin the current instructions when useful. Facebook’s documented Page controls also allow a community manager to remove or report comments and restrict disruptive participants. For a busy broadcast, agree on a short cue—such as the moderator saying “pause for inventory”—so you can stop presenting while a claim conflict is resolved.

If a claim is ambiguous, ask the viewer to clarify through your announced route rather than guessing from a partial comment. If two buyers appear to claim the last unit, apply the rule you set beforehand and update the public availability promptly. A calm, consistent process is more useful than claiming that a comment automatically reserves stock.

Moderation and order handling are related, but they are not the same job. A community manager’s documented live-chat controls support handling comments and participants; they do not create a native order ledger or payment process. Keep the seller-side record separate from the comment controls, and make sure the person updating orders has the information needed to do so.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not collect payment details in public comments. Move personal or payment information to the private, appropriate route you selected and tested. If a buyer asks a question that affects whether an order is accepted—such as a product option or fulfillment arrangement—record the answer and status through your process so you and the moderator do not rely on memory alone.

Close the sale and fulfill orders

  1. Reconcile claims against inventory. After the broadcast, compare the ledger with the available stock and resolve duplicate, incomplete, or disputed claims using the rules you announced.
  2. Contact buyers through the promised route. Confirm the product, quantity, final amount, payment method, and any pickup or delivery terms before treating the order as accepted.
  3. Confirm payment and order status. Update the ledger only after the payment and confirmation steps you specified are complete. Tell buyers what confirmation they should expect and how to contact you about a problem.
  4. Arrange fulfillment conditionally and accurately. Give the buyer the pickup or shipping details that apply to that order. Because shipping options can vary by location, confirm availability for the buyer rather than assuming it is universal.
  5. Update inventory and retain a useful record. Mark fulfilled or canceled orders and correct the remaining stock before your next sale. Keep customer information only as needed for order handling and in accordance with your own privacy obligations.

Reconciliation is the point to catch the gaps a fast-moving comment stream can create: duplicate claims, missing quantities, an item marked reserved but never paid, or a buyer who needs a different fulfillment arrangement. Compare the ledger with the stock you still have before sending confirmations. If you cannot fulfill a claim, tell the affected buyer rather than leaving the status unclear.

When you contact buyers, state what they are buying and what remains to be done. A follow-up message is not itself proof of payment, and payment is not the same as fulfillment. Keep the ledger accurate through each stage so you can answer questions about whether an order is awaiting payment, paid, ready for pickup, shipped, or complete. Use only the fulfillment options you have confirmed for the buyer’s location.

Finally, correct stock counts and close out cancellations before the next sale. This keeps the following broadcast from advertising inventory that has already been committed. The same record can help you respond to buyer questions, but it should contain only the information you need for order handling and should be managed according to your privacy obligations.

How this differs from other Meta commerce features

Facebook’s selling surfaces, Facebook Live, former Facebook Live Shopping, and commerce features announced for Instagram messaging are distinct. Meta’s 2020 announcement named Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, and other providers in the context of helping businesses build Shops and use commerce tools. That is historical partner context; it does not establish a current integration with Facebook Live or current program terms. Meta’s Shops announcement describes that initiative.

If you use an online storefront or order-management platform, treat it as a possible destination for off-video order processing, not as proof of a Facebook Live integration. The 2020 partner announcement is historical evidence only. Verify current capabilities, regional availability, and any program terms independently before naming or linking to a particular service. No specific commerce platform is required by the workflow described here.

Likewise, Meta announced in 2022 that qualified small businesses could discuss products, request and collect payment, and let buyers track orders in Instagram messaging. That announcement describes Instagram messaging commerce, not an order-management function built into Facebook Live. Meta’s Instagram chat commerce announcement should not be read as proof that the same workflow is available in a Facebook broadcast.

These distinctions matter when comparing workflows. Facebook Live is where you present and discuss products. A seller-selected route or eligible Facebook selling surface is where the buyer may complete the transaction. Instagram’s announced messaging pattern is a different product and context. Do not combine them into a claim that a viewer can buy, pay, or track an order natively in a Facebook Live video.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Promising tagged products or native Live checkout: Facebook Live Shopping’s product playlists and product tags ended for new and scheduled events on October 1, 2022.
  • Calling a comment an order: Record the claim, then complete your own acceptance, payment, and confirmation steps.
  • Collecting sensitive details publicly: Use a private, appropriate route for payment and personal information.
  • Leaving claim rules until the stream starts: Establish claim priority, tie handling, payment deadlines, and cancellation rules in advance.
  • Assuming shipping or Shop tools are universal: Check current account and geographic availability, and tell buyers only what you can provide.
  • Assuming a partner announcement guarantees an integration: The named commerce-platform partners were part of a 2020 announcement, not evidence of present-day Facebook Live connectivity.

One further pitfall is letting the process become harder to follow than the product presentation. Too many claim channels, unclear identifiers, or inconsistent status updates can make it difficult to know which buyer is being served. Choose a primary method, explain it at the start, repeat it during the broadcast, and use the same method to resolve questions afterward. If the process proves too busy to manage, simplify the next sale rather than promising instant handling you cannot provide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can customers buy directly from a Facebook Live video?

Not through the former Facebook Live Shopping product playlists and product tags. Meta ended new and scheduled Live Shopping events on October 1, 2022, while general Facebook Live broadcasting continued. Use the stream to present products, then direct interested viewers to a seller-selected route or an eligible Facebook selling surface for the current purchase process.

How do I keep track of orders during a Facebook Live sale?

Use a seller-managed ledger and record the viewer or contact route, product identifier, quantity, claim time, order status, payment status, and fulfillment status. These are practical seller-side records, not a Facebook-provided Live claim queue. Reconcile the ledger against available inventory after the broadcast.

Does commenting “claim” reserve an item or complete an order?

A comment can signal interest under rules you set, but it is not a paid order and the cited Meta materials do not document a built-in Live claim queue. Explain whether and how you reserve stock, how you resolve competing claims, and what payment and confirmation steps complete the order.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How do I manage comments while I’m live?

A Page community manager can use documented live-chat controls to pin a comment, delete or report comments, and suspend or ban users. A moderator can also watch for claims and update your seller-side ledger. Confirm the relevant Page access and divide responsibilities before the broadcast.

Where can I sell products through Facebook?

Facebook lists Marketplace, buy-and-sell groups, Pages, and Shops as selling routes. They are separate from in-video Live Shopping checkout, and the options available to you may depend on your account and location. Verify the current route and shipping options before advertising them.

Can I offer shipping to every buyer?

Do not assume so. Facebook’s help information says shipping may depend on location. Check whether it is available for your account and the buyer’s location, and explain pickup, delivery, or shipping terms accurately.

Do Shopify, BigCommerce, or WooCommerce connect to Facebook Live orders?

Meta named Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, and other providers in a 2020 announcement about Shops and commerce tools. That historical announcement does not establish a current Facebook Live integration or current program terms. Verify any platform’s present capabilities independently.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is Instagram chat checkout the same as Facebook Live order management?

No. Meta’s 2022 announcement concerned qualified small businesses using Instagram messaging to discuss products, request and collect payment, and let buyers track orders in chat. It is a distinct Instagram feature, not proof of an order-management function in Facebook Live.

The Bottom Line

Facebook Live can still bring a product demonstration and buyer conversation together, but its former Live Shopping product tags and playlists ended on October 1, 2022. Run the sale as a seller-managed workflow: choose an available selling and payment route, publish clear claim rules, delegate comment moderation where possible, track each item through payment and fulfillment, and verify shipping and account availability before making promises. A comment is interest—not a completed order.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
