The quickest way to host a Divine Journey 2 server is to rent a Minecraft Java server with a modpack installer, choose Divine Journey 2, select the same pack version your players will install, and start it. For full control, download the pack’s server pack from CurseForge, extract it, run the included launch.bat or launch.sh, accept the generated EULA, and then configure networking. Divine Journey 2 targets Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge, so every connecting player must use that Minecraft version, the Forge loader, and the identical modpack release.
What Divine Journey 2 hosting requires
Divine Journey 2 is a large Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2. A server is not compatible with a vanilla 1.12.2 client or with a player using a different Forge or pack release. Decide on the exact release before installation. The CurseForge listing showed Divine_Journey_2.23.4 as the latest file when checked on October 14, 2026, with more than 960.7K downloads; those figures and the latest-file designation can change, so check the listing immediately before creating the server.

Provider guidance places practical memory needs between 6 GB and 12 GB, depending on the number of players and the workload. One commonly cited recommendation is at least 6–8 GB for a small group and 10–12 GB for 10 or more players; another recommends 8 GB, with 6 GB as a minimum. Treat these as starting points rather than guarantees. Exploration, automation-heavy bases, chunk loading, and many simultaneous dimensions can increase usage.

Divine Journey 2 is often described by hosts as CPU-heavy on a single core. A processor with strong per-core clock speed can therefore affect tick rate more than simply adding many slower cores. This is provider guidance rather than an official benchmark, so use the server’s timings and the host’s monitoring tools to validate the choice.

Java 8 is the runtime commonly associated with Minecraft 1.12.2 and is the likely runtime for this pack, but the exact requirement was not confirmed from the pack author’s primary documentation. Before installing, open the server-owner README linked from the current CurseForge listing and follow its Java instruction. Do not assume that a newer Java release will work just because it is installed on your machine.
Set up Divine Journey 2 with managed hosting
A managed panel is usually the fastest route because it downloads the Forge server files, creates the launch configuration, and exposes controls for memory and restarts. Labels differ between hosts, but the workflow is similar.
- Create a Minecraft Java server. In the host’s game selector, choose Minecraft Java Edition rather than Bedrock. Select Minecraft 1.12.2 and Forge if the panel asks for a loader separately.
- Open the modpack installer. Look for a tab labelled Modpacks, Marketplace, One-click install, or CurseForge. Search for Divine Journey 2 using the exact spelling.
- Select a release. Choose the same pack version that every player will install. If the panel lists an older release than CurseForge, either use that release consistently or choose a different host; do not mix files from two versions.
- Install into a clean instance. A modpack installer should create a new server directory. Do not combine it with an existing Forge world unless you have made a tested backup and understand which mods and configuration files are changing.
- Set memory before the first long run. Start with 6–8 GB for a small group or 10–12 GB for 10 or more players, subject to the plan’s limit. Keep matching minimum and maximum heap values if the panel exposes both fields, and leave system headroom.
- Start and read the console. The first launch can take several minutes while Forge and the mods build caches. Wait for the panel to report that the server is ready rather than connecting while files are still being generated.
- Accept the EULA if prompted. Some panels expose an EULA switch; others create
eula.txtand stop. Seteula=trueonly after reading and accepting Mojang’s terms, then start the server again. - Copy the connection address. Use the address and port shown by the host panel. Share that value with players; they should enter it in Minecraft’s Multiplayer screen, not the panel’s internal identifier.
- Grant administrative access carefully. Use the console’s
op playernamecommand only for trusted operators. Prefer a whitelist for a private server and remove temporary operator access when it is no longer needed.
Some hosts advertise one-click setup in roughly 10–15 minutes, but that is a general provider claim, not a guaranteed completion time. Large downloads, installation queues, and the first Forge startup can take longer.

Self-host Divine Journey 2 from the server pack
Self-hosting is a manual installation, but it gives you direct access to the files, JVM options, backups, and network configuration.
1. Download the matching server pack
Open the current Divine Journey 2 files on CurseForge and download the server pack for the release you intend to run. A regular client profile is not a substitute for the server pack. Keep the downloaded archive so you can identify the exact version later.
2. Prepare a dedicated directory
Create a folder used only by this server, such as C:MinecraftDivineJourney2 on Windows or /opt/minecraft/divinejourney2 on Linux. Extract every file from the server-pack archive into that folder. Avoid paths with unusual permissions or a cloud-sync utility that could lock files while the server is writing.

3. Install the documented Java runtime
Install the Java version specified in the current server-owner README. Java 8 is the likely choice for a 1.12.2 pack, but it is not confirmed here by primary documentation. If multiple Java versions are installed, make the launch script point explicitly to the intended executable instead of relying on whichever java appears first in the system path.
4. Launch once and accept the EULA
- On Windows, open the server folder and run the supplied
launch.bat. - On Linux, make the supplied script executable with
chmod +x launch.sh, then run it with./launch.sh. - Allow the process to create its initial files. It may stop and generate
eula.txt. - Open
eula.txt, read the linked terms, and change the value toeula=trueonly if you agree. - Run the same launch script again and wait for a ready message in the log.
Use the supplied script rather than inventing a new server command: it may set the Forge entry point, library path, and memory flags expected by this pack. If the log reports a Java-version or memory error, edit the launch script as its comments or the server README instructs. Keep a backup of the original script before changing it.
5. Choose memory settings
Set the minimum and maximum heap values in the launch script or hosting panel. Matching values can avoid repeated heap resizing, but never allocate all physical RAM to Java. On a self-hosted machine, reserve memory for the operating system, remote-access tools, backups, and any other service. Increase the allocation only after monitoring actual use; excessive heap can make garbage-collection pauses worse rather than better.

Make the server reachable
Testing on the same computer
With the server running, connect from the host computer using the local address shown by the game or server configuration. This confirms that Forge and the pack start correctly before you troubleshoot the router or internet connection.

Playing over a home network
Players on the same network normally connect to the host computer’s private IPv4 address and the port configured in server.properties. Reserve the host computer’s local address in the router so it does not change after a reboot, and allow Java through the operating system firewall when prompted.
Allowing internet players
- Find the listening port in
server.properties; the conventional Minecraft port is 25565 unless you changed it. - Create a router port-forward rule from that external port to the host computer’s fixed private address and the same internal port.
- Allow the chosen TCP port through the host operating system’s firewall. Some network setups also require UDP rules, so follow the router and firewall documentation if the service is not visible externally.
- Give players your public address and port, while keeping the router’s administration interface and unrelated services closed to the internet.
- Test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot. Testing only from inside the home network can hide NAT or hairpin-routing problems.
If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, normal port forwarding may not work. In that case, use a managed host, a publicly reachable VPS, or a private overlay network that all players can access.

Make every player’s client match
Before inviting anyone, send players the exact release identifier and loader combination. Each client should use:
- Minecraft Java Edition 1.12.2
- Forge for Minecraft 1.12.2
- The same Divine Journey 2 release as the server
- The same required configuration and script-generated files supplied by that release
A mismatch can produce a missing-mod, registry, or network-channel error even when the server itself is healthy. If only one player cannot join, have that player create a fresh profile for the exact release instead of copying individual mods between profiles.

Back up the right files
Stop the server cleanly before copying its world. Back up the world directory, server.properties, whitelist and operator files, and the pack’s configuration and scripts. Keep at least one backup away from the machine running Minecraft and periodically test that an archive can be restored.
Update deliberately
- Record the current pack version and make a complete backup.
- Read the release notes and the current server README for required Java, Forge, or migration changes.
- Install the new release in a separate directory first.
- Copy the backup world only after confirming that the new server starts without errors.
- Test with an operator account before announcing the update to everyone.
Do not overwrite a working instance while players are online, and do not assume that a client update is safe for an existing world without a rollback copy.
Reduce unwanted access
- Enable a whitelist for a private group and add players by their exact in-game names.
- Give operator privileges to as few people as possible.
- Keep the server, Java runtime, operating system, and remote-management tools updated according to their maintainers’ guidance.
- Do not expose the server folder, remote console, or file-transfer service directly to the public internet.
- Use a separate operating-system account for the Minecraft process when practical.
Troubleshoot the most common failures

A practical launch checklist
- Confirm the current Divine Journey 2 release on CurseForge and record its identifier.
- Confirm Minecraft 1.12.2 and Forge 1.12.2 for the server and every player.
- Choose managed hosting or a dedicated self-hosted machine.
- Start with 6–8 GB for a small group or 10–12 GB for 10 or more players, then monitor actual usage.
- Verify the Java version against the current server-owner README; Java 8 is likely but not confirmed by primary documentation.
- Install from the modpack installer or the official server-pack archive, not a client-only profile.
- Accept the EULA, wait for a ready log, and test locally before opening internet access.

For most groups, managed hosting is the least error-prone path: the installer handles the Forge structure and the panel supplies the address. Self-hosting is appropriate when you can maintain Java, networking, backups, and performance yourself. Whichever route you choose, version matching is the non-negotiable requirement for a stable Divine Journey 2 server.
