Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
To host Create: Astral, run the Fabric edition for Minecraft 1.18.2 with Java 17 and install the matching Create Astral Server Pack—not just the client profile. For a small group, start with about 5 GB of RAM, then adjust after watching actual memory use and tick performance. The procedure below covers a self-hosted machine, client connection checks, managed hosting, upgrades, backups, and the most common failures.
Know exactly what you are hosting
Create: Astral is a tech-focused Fabric modpack for Minecraft 1.18.2. Its project description calls it a challenging pack with mods integrated into Create and custom recipes. CurseForge displayed 1,446,119 total downloads (shown as 1.4 million) on October 14, 2026; that figure indicates adoption, not a recommended server size.

At that date, the project page listed Create Astral Server Pack v2.1.5b as the latest server-pack release, published August 23, 2026. Treat the release number, Minecraft version, Fabric loader, and server-pack filename as one locked combination. A client profile from one release paired with a server pack from another can produce missing-mod errors, recipe differences, or startup crashes.
Why Forge is the wrong loader
The published pack is built for Fabric, not Forge. A Forge server cannot load Fabric mods simply by copying the files, and replacing the loader changes the environment the pack was authored and tested for. Install the Fabric loader associated with the exact Create: Astral release your group selected.

The server pack and the client profile do different jobs
The client profile gives each player the mods and settings needed to launch the game. The separate server-pack download supplies server-side files, libraries, configurations, and the layout expected by a headless instance. Downloading only the client profile leaves the server without files it needs and usually requires manual guesswork. Keep a copy of the original server-pack archive so you can compare files after an update.
Hardware, software, and network requirements
| Component | Practical requirement | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft and loader | Minecraft 1.18.2 with Fabric | This is the stack listed for Create: Astral; a different game or loader version is a different installation. |
| Java | Java 17 | Fabric’s guidance places Minecraft 1.18.2 in the Java 17 range. |
| Storage | SSD, preferably NVMe for busy worlds | Chunk generation, mod data, backups, and log writes are less disruptive on solid-state storage than on a hard disk. |
| Network | Stable upload bandwidth and a reachable listening port | Every connected player sends movement and block updates to the server; unstable upstream connectivity looks like lag even when the CPU is idle. |
| Operations | Dedicated directory, automated backups, and a tested restore | A backup that has never been restored is only an assumption. |
Use an account or service identity dedicated to the server rather than running unrelated applications in the same directory. Leave free disk space for world growth, crash reports, temporary downloads, and at least one backup generation. Firewall rules, port forwarding, and service management differ by operating system and router, so apply the settings for your platform instead of copying a command intended for another system.

No official mod-author minimum or independent benchmark establishes one universal number. Provider guidance is a planning starting point, and the right heap depends on concurrent players, view and simulation distance, chunk generation, automation-heavy bases, and any additional mods.
| Concurrent players | Starting heap guidance | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Two or three | 5 GB | Astroworld’s 2026 Create: Astral guidance; monitor a real world before inviting more players. |
| Mid-sized group | 6 GB | Provider guidance, not a guaranteed minimum or maximum. |
| Nine or more | 8 GB | Provider guidance; heavy factories and fresh-chunk exploration can still require tuning. |
Modrinth Hosting exposes managed tiers of 4 GB, 6 GB, and 8 GB. A 4 GB tier may be useful for a very small, lightly explored instance, but it is below the 5 GB starting point suggested for two or three players by Astroworld. These figures describe allocated memory, not CPU performance, storage speed, or network quality.
Set a sensible initial heap
Give the Java process a maximum heap that matches your plan and leave memory for the operating system, file cache, monitoring, and backups. For a two- or three-player test, a command such as java -Xmx5G -jar fabric-server-launch.jar nogui expresses a 5 GB maximum. Change 5G to the amount you have deliberately allocated; do not assign all physical RAM to Java. If the host exposes a fixed memory tier, use that tier’s limit rather than adding a larger -Xmx value.

Choose self-hosting or managed hosting
| Approach | You control | Trade-offs | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-hosted computer or virtual machine | Files, Java, Fabric, logs, backups, firewall, upgrades, and recovery | More setup; you are responsible for uptime, security, networking, and hardware failures. | An operator who wants full access and is comfortable maintaining a server. |
| Managed Minecraft host | Pack selection, server settings, console, and files through the provider panel | Recurring cost, provider limits, possible regional or backup differences, and terms that can change. | A group that wants an installer, support, and less operating-system work. |
Modrinth Hosting advertises integrated modpack installation and Fabric support, with 4 GB, 6 GB, and 8 GB tiers in several regions. Astroworld documents a Create: Astral-specific installer that sets Fabric and Java versions and applies the server pack. Check current pricing, stock, backup retention, support response, region, cancellation terms, and data-export options before committing; those details are not fixed by the modpack.
Self-host a Create: Astral server step by step
1. Record the release before downloading anything
- Open the Create: Astral project’s files on CurseForge.
- Write down the Minecraft version, Fabric loader family, pack release, and the exact Create Astral Server Pack filename. At the time covered here, those were Minecraft 1.18.2, Fabric, and server pack v2.1.5b.
- Tell every player to install that same release. Do not combine a newer client with an older server pack, even if both are labelled Create: Astral.
Keep the archive and a text note containing the release details in your server directory. This makes a later rollback possible and prevents a second operator from downloading a similar-looking file.
2. Prepare the machine and directory
- Choose an SSD-backed machine with enough CPU headroom for world generation and automation ticks. A dedicated desktop, virtual machine, or hosted instance can work; reliability matters more than a particular operating system.
- Create a dedicated folder for this instance. Keep the world,
config, mods, libraries, logs, and launcher files together unless the pack instructions specify another layout. - Plan an automated backup that includes the world, configuration, server properties, and the server files needed to recreate the installation. Store at least one copy outside the machine.
- Allow Java and the server process through the host firewall, and configure router or provider networking only if outside players need to connect. The exact rule and port-forwarding steps depend on your platform.
3. Install and verify Java 17
Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime or JDK from a distribution supported by your operating system. Fabric’s official guidance recommends Java 17 for Minecraft 1.17 through 1.20.4 and specifically places 1.18.2 in that range.
Open a terminal in the account that will run the server and execute java -version. Confirm that the major version reported is 17. If the command shows an older runtime, install Java 17 or call its full executable path in your start script. If it shows a newer major version, use the version required by the pack and Fabric documentation rather than assuming newer is always compatible.
4. Install Fabric for Minecraft 1.18.2
Fabric documents two server installation routes. The executable server jar can be placed in the server directory and launched directly. The manual route uses the Fabric installer’s Server tab and produces fabric-server-launch.jar alongside a vanilla server.jar. Follow one route consistently; do not mix launchers from different installations.

For a headless server, Fabric’s documented pattern is:
java -Xmx2G -jar <fabric server launcher jar file name> nogui
The 2G value is only the example in Fabric’s documentation and is not a Create: Astral recommendation. After the pack is installed, replace it with the heap you selected for your player count. If you use the manual route, the corresponding command normally names fabric-server-launch.jar.
5. Make the first launch and accept the EULA
- Run the Fabric launcher once with the
noguiargument. It will create initial files and stop or report that the EULA has not been accepted. - Stop the process cleanly if it remains running, then open
eula.txt. - Read Mojang’s EULA. Change
eula=falsetoeula=trueonly if you accept it. - Start the launcher again and wait for the console to report that the server is ready before connecting.
Fabric’s Windows tutorial covers generating start scripts, creating the EULA file, and launching with fabric-server-launch.jar nogui. Keep the console visible during this first successful start so you can capture missing-file or Java errors instead of losing them in a background service log.
6. Deploy the matching server pack
- Download the Create Astral Server Pack that corresponds to the release you recorded.
- Read the pack’s included instructions before copying files. Some packs expect an archive to be extracted directly into the server root; others provide a script or a nested directory.
- Copy the supplied contents into the Fabric server directory, preserving the provided
config, mods, libraries, and any required scripts. Merge only when the instructions explicitly say to merge; overwriting an existing configuration can erase deliberate settings. - Compare the resulting
modsdirectory with the server pack rather than adding individual mods from memory.
The separate server-pack file is the authoritative starting point for server-side content. A client-only profile is not a substitute.

7. Set memory, start, and test a backup
- Adjust your start script’s
-Xmxvalue to the planned heap. Use a matching-Xmsonly if you understand the host’s memory limit; a large initial heap can starve the operating system. - Launch with Fabric and
nogui. Watch for a ready message and for repeated errors or rapid restarts. - Connect with one client before publishing the address to the whole group. Walk, place blocks, open inventories, and generate a small amount of new terrain.
- Run the backup job, stop the server cleanly, and restore the backup to a separate test directory. Verify that the world opens and that configuration and mod files are present.
Only after this test should you invite the full group or expose the server to the public internet.

Client setup and connection checklist
Each player must reproduce the server’s software combination, not merely install something with a similar name.
- Minecraft version: exactly 1.18.2 for the release described here.
- Loader: the matching Fabric loader family.
- Pack release: the same Create: Astral version selected by the server operator.
- Mods and configs: installed from the matching client profile, with no unapproved additions or removals.
- Java: a compatible Java runtime; Java 17 is the documented requirement for this Minecraft range.
- Connection details: the address and port provided by the operator, plus any whitelist or authentication requirement.
CurseForge notes that modloader and game-version compatibility determines whether mods can run. Releases can also change their mod lists, so use the exact file selected by the group rather than automatically choosing the newest file. Test one client first. If it is rejected, compare the client and server mod filenames and versions before changing anything else.
Troubleshoot the failures you are most likely to see
“Incompatible mod set” or missing-mod errors
Compare the server-pack release, Minecraft version, Fabric loader, and every jar in the client and server mods directories. Remove a mod that a player added manually, or reinstall the matching client profile. Do not solve a mismatch by downloading random newer jars: a recipe, dependency, or configuration may have changed.
The server exits immediately or reports a Java class-version error
Run java -version from the same account and start script used by the service. A terminal may use Java 17 while a scheduled task or hosting panel points to another executable. Correct the path, then start again. Check that the Fabric launcher and vanilla server jar belong to Minecraft 1.18.2.
Out-of-memory errors, long pauses, or a killed process
Confirm the host’s actual memory limit and the value passed to -Xmx. If the process is capped at 6 GB, a script requesting more will not create usable memory. Stop unnecessary applications, lower view and simulation distance for testing, and observe whether pauses occur during exploration or automation-heavy activity. Move to the next practical tier only after confirming that memory, rather than CPU or storage, is the bottleneck.

Players cannot reach the server
First connect from the server machine or the same local network, then test externally. Verify that the server is listening on the configured port, that the operating-system firewall permits Java, and that a router or provider firewall forwards the port to the correct machine. A managed host normally handles the public endpoint; a home connection may also be affected by carrier-grade NAT or a changing public address.

Lag appears after adding a large factory
Separate memory pressure from tick-time pressure. Watch the console and host CPU while reproducing the slowdown, pause chunk exploration, and test near the factory. Reduce simultaneous chunk loading and unnecessary simulation distance before buying more RAM. A larger heap cannot fix a CPU-limited tick loop.
The world or configuration is damaged after an update
Stop the server, preserve the failing directory unchanged, and restore the last known-good world and configuration to a separate instance. Do not overwrite your only backup with the damaged files. Record which release, loader, and configuration produced the failure before attempting another upgrade.
Managed hosting: what to verify before ordering
A managed panel can remove Java installation, firewall, and file-transfer work, but it does not remove version discipline. Select Fabric, Minecraft 1.18.2, and the exact Create: Astral server-pack release rather than a generic modpack entry that happens to contain Create.
| Check | Question to ask the provider |
|---|---|
| Resources | Is the advertised RAM dedicated, and what CPU share is available during sustained load? |
| Installation | Can you import the exact server-pack archive, or only choose a catalogue version? |
| Storage | Is storage SSD or NVMe, and can the world and logs grow without an undisclosed cap? |
| Backups | How often are backups taken, how long are they retained, and can you download and restore one? |
| Operations | Do you get console access, a file manager, scheduled tasks, crash logs, and a way to stop the server cleanly? |
| Network | Which region will host the instance, how is latency measured, and what firewall or DDoS controls are included? |
| Exit | Can you export the world, configs, and server files if you cancel or change providers? |
Modrinth describes its hosting as integrating mod and modpack installation and supporting Fabric. Astroworld documents a Create: Astral-specific setup that applies Fabric, Java, and the server pack. These are service descriptions, not a guarantee of current price, capacity, or support quality; verify the live terms before purchase.
Backups, upgrades, and routine maintenance
Use a repeatable backup policy
- Back up the world and configuration on a schedule that matches how much progress the group can afford to lose.
- Keep multiple generations, including at least one copy on different storage or in a different location.
- Back up before changing the loader, pack release, Java runtime, or major server properties.
- Test a restore periodically on a separate directory, never by experimenting first on the only live world.
Upgrade as a controlled migration
- Record the current Minecraft version, Fabric loader, pack release, Java version, and server-properties changes.
- Stop the server cleanly and copy the world, configs, and current server directory.
- Install the candidate release in a new directory or test instance.
- Apply the matching server pack and start it without the production world if possible.
- Review logs, join with one matching client, test recipes and machines, and confirm backups.
- Promote the tested instance only after the group agrees on the release. Keep the old copy until the new world has been played successfully.
Never assume that a newer Create: Astral file is a drop-in replacement. Mod lists, recipes, loader requirements, and world data can change between releases.
Licensing and redistribution
CurseForge marks Create: Astral with a custom license and directs questions about direct use of Astral-specific resources to the team. Read that license before mirroring the pack, redistributing its files, publishing a preconfigured image, or bundling it into a commercial service. Hosting a private server for your group and republishing the pack are different activities; permission for one should not be inferred for the other.
Bottom line
Use the exact Create: Astral Fabric 1.18.2 release, Java 17, and its separate server-pack download. Start around 5 GB for two or three players, increase toward 6 GB or 8 GB as the group and workload grow, and validate the choice with logs and real play. Self-hosting offers complete control, while a managed Fabric host can simplify installation; either way, version alignment, tested backups, and a one-client shakedown prevent most avoidable failures.
